Poor Bob- giving a scared kid advice that UNDER ANY NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES would be 100% correct and 100% helpful. He just didn’t know what genre he’s living in!
Yep poor kid got done dirty as Barbara in this show and just by happenstance and Bob is the purest soul who just tried to help. I'll admit I was sure all the way up to the finale that Bob was gonna be a plant XD nope. Just the nicest guy in middle earth 😂
The book Hopper is reading to El is the same book he read to his daughter during the flashback scene from season 1 (when Sarah is in the hospital, getting cancer treatments). It is the famous classic children's' novel "Anne of the Green Gables" by author L.M. Montgomery, first published in June 1908. It was Sarah's favorite book, so it's very touching & sweet that Hopper is now reading it to Eleven.
The sad part is that if this had literally been any other situation, Bob's advice would've worked. But unfortunately, we're dealing with supernatural shenanigans. Last season, we saw Lucas not wanting El in the party because he thought she was weird and unnecessary. And now, Mike's seemingly feeling the same way about Max. Dustin and Lucas adore her, Will is indifferent and Mike wishes she would go away. Interesting little dynamic. I felt so bad for Will. He just wants his life to go back to normal and yet these creatures keep targeting him. After an entire season of pain, it looks like he's being targeted once more. Poor boy.
One thing that I‘m still thinking abt from this episode is that Bob lived in Maine, IT takes place in Derry, Maine. He tells Will about the Clown and that he stood his ground and told him to go away, made the Clown feel small, which we know, can defeat IT, so what if IT and Stranger Things actually play in the same Universe and Bob is a Pennywise survivor?
That's actually impressive bcz yes if u stand ur ground and tell Pennywise u know curse and say go away it does make him weak make him feel small that's exactly how they defeat him first soo it could be like he's a kid who made it without getting eaten by penny but his memories are hazed soo he thinks it was in dreams
The book Hopper reads to El is Anne Of Green Gables, which in the first season we see Hopper read to his daughter in a flashback. This destroyed me when I realised this.
Yeah, El is 12 so she makes decisions like a 12 year-old. Hoppers deal when he was taken at the end of season 1 was to keep things quiet for them and squash any roomers that may lead to the lab. I thinking that Hopper left the food for El in that box because his instincts as a father kicked in because the people from the lab probably told him that she was out there somewhere and he was worried for her and he felt guilty for telling them that she was at the school when he and Joyce got caught going to the lab at the end of season 1. That's my theory anyway.
It was confirmed (by The Duffers) that the reason Hopper left food out in the forest is not because of his guilt or the lab told him she was out there somewhere, but from a report made to Hawkins Police that a man was assaulted & robbed while out hunting. This is the same dude who stumbled upon Eleven in the woods when she was cooking that squirrel. She knocked him out and stole his jacket (& hat). When he came to, he went to the cops & Hopper suspected that it was Eleven, based on his description of her appearance & what had transpired (hit by a floating log). That is why he left the covered box in the forest with food inside, to confirm his suspicions. When he saw she had taken it, he was leaving more & eventually she came out of hiding...
Na Hoppers a cop and most likely heard the reports of a the man El attacked with a log using her mind. That would of led him to the woods to leave food for her since he knows a young girl who has powers so would believe that guys story.
@2:46 If you remember the previous episode, El hit a hunter in the head with a log. He probably reported it to the police, who happened to be Hopper. At least that's my take on it.
Bob's advice actually works for nightmares if you manage to have that awareness, but not for upside-down visions.... dammit!!! The cliffhangers this season!...
Hopper knew El was out in the woods, probably after she attacked that guy with a burning log. El was in survivor mode and had no choice but to protect herself & take a coat since shes sleeping out in the wood at winter time. Hopper would of believed that police report after knowing about El, so he left food out for her. Also, to be fair on Dart he clearly love Dustin and bonded with him, and Darts cleary a carnivore so he wouldn't know any better, when it comes to eating animals. It was wagging its tail when seeing Dustin that's why i knew he never meant Dustin no harm. I think you guys forget that El is still a young child that has only a basic education with no social skills apart from what's she's learned after escaping the lab. Eleven is also a very traumatised child whos not learned all the social skills and ways she would have to kindagarten & throughout normal life. El is still learning how to control all these new emotions and struggles too.
Fun Fact, when Bob was talking about the Mr. Baldo, it was confirmed that Pennywise was actually the same clown. So the Losers also lived in the same universe as Stranger Things :)

Let's give him some credit for saving Middle Earth from Sauron!
Lord of the rings baby!!!

Wouldn’t work because of Finn wolfhard being in both😂

@@nancyberry1039 Like I said, it was just a theory of mine. I usually keep up on the Duffer's comments and explanations, I guess I missed that one.

I NEED EPISODE 2x4 NOW😫
i love episode 4
Gotta hand it to the creators. They really know how to end an episode with annoying cliff hangers. Building the suspense.
Great reaction. The end of this episode is still one of the most horrifying scenes from this show.
It's the the tonal turning point for the entire show I'd say. Crap just literally hit the fan compared to what we've seen up to this point
I always thought Hopper was just trying to keep close tabs on them to make sure they not close to finding El but I could be wrong

I love that theory, it’s so right, btw I wanna like your comment but it’s exactly 11, here’s a like -> 👍

Is it steve being insecure, seeing the conversation with nancy and jonathan I don't think he was being insecure.

Bob’s advice is great for dreams but not so much for supernatural forces lol. Poor guy has no idea what he’s up against.
