I love the Robin and Steve scene so freaking much. I love that it was quiet, chill and wasn't made a huge deal. They moved on like nothing happened. That's perfect. I remember some people complaining that Steve's reaction is unrealistic cause he's a straight guy in the 80's and I'm like...this show has monsters coming out of other dimensions and you're talking about realism? Plus it's not like every single person was homophobic in the 80s lol
The Steve Robin scene with Robin coming out and Steve just moving on and nor making a big deal about it was something us fans have been waiting to see your reaction to. It was a super cool moment, and showed Steve's continued character growth on the show. That's why do many fans love him.
We also have to remember that this is the 80s. So coming out to Steve was a huge risk on Robin's part. So for Steve to be like "alright" is a big thing. I also love how he makes fun of her taste in women. :D
Joyce punches Larry & kicks him in the crotch, as she walks away you hear some random dude yell out "Yeah, lady!" 🤣 That little scene always cracks me up - LOL!
The Steve/Robin twist reveal!! Best moment ever. Friendship goals right there. Also, these damn stressful cliffhangers. And Alexi... 🥺he was a human puppy. I adore your reactions! So fun!
The way Steve accepted Robin coming out to him was very heartwarming, even though he was heartbroken. Although, it's great that he got a great friend out of this❤❤❤ When this episode first came out, I was so sad for Steve and also that I shipped them together. Then, I eventually saw it as him having a best friend that he never had and who is also his age😊😊😊
You know, I didn't think I was that much older than you guys, but clearly, I am WAY older😂. You just made me feel every bit of those years, not understanding the whole Coke II situation. Coke stands were in an uproar because they changed their ingredients to compete better with Pepsi, who at the time was arguably bigger than Coke. They eventually came back out with classic Coke and phased out the new one. BTW, they re-released Coke II as part of the promotional advertisement for season 3. They came in limited edition boxes with small glass bottles and cans. I happen to have one.
Yes New coke was a thing in the mid 80s. And also yes it was a huge point of contention. To make matters worse Bill Cosby was the spokesman. They very quickly brought back Coca-Cola Classic.
The steve and Robin moment, It was so good.. I love how they incorporated it into the plot. It wasn't a great revelation. It felt normal and it's a good thing that Robin got away with Steve.... We're Sad about Alexi, he was such an adorable character that he didn't deserve to die. The bad thing about Stranger Things is that they always kill, off the new characters at the end, which we end up loving :( Anyway, I can't wait for them to reach the last chapter without giving spoilers, they're going to cry.
Yes, they did bring the original back but New Coke was still being produced. They relabeled it as Coke II in 1990 & eventually stopped production about 10 years later (sometime around 2000 or 2001).
Fun fact. Millie actually broke her kneecap slipping poolside during a break, the Duffers decided to work her injury into the script with The Bite. You'll notice from about episode 5 on Millie isnt doing alot of walking, lots of sitting and when she is walking she limping or being helped around because she had a knee brace on. She also lost her voice several times during this season because of all the screaming she had to do.
In April 1985 Coke-a Cola came out with a "new formula" & called it "New Coke" so original, huh? The hype was short lived. They tried rebranding it in 1990 as "Coke II" but eventually stopped production around 2000 (I think). Back to The Future - kid in the 80's ends up stuck in the past, during the 50's (his parents' high school years) & has to get "back to the future" which is his timeline 30 years later...
idk how they did that bathroom scene so masterfully but it was somehow my favorite moment of the season and it had nothing to do with anything just 2 authentic characters with an authentic connection learning where they stand with each other, and it's just beautiful.
There was a coke released in the 80's that everyone hated, so they went back to the og recipe and that is why it is called Coka Cola Classic. Lucas is drinking the new version that everyone hated. 😂
Maybe they didn't get in the car to escape early on because there was only one road in (driveway to the cabin) and that monster was marching up it towards them. Just got to mention how much I appreciate your reaction style. I've tried other reactors and far too many babble way too much about themselves while drowning out the action. It's very distracting and they don't cut the video very well. You two respond just to the show and you are totally wrapped up in it (the way I was) and you comment appropriately to what's going on and it is just great. And you are excellent at what to cut and what to show...I love it.
9:14 I think anytime any two people show up at his house together, eventually he's going to give some sort of why don't you two just fuck, and get it over with speech. He's like an irritable Cupid.
Thank you for your videos! This episode was heart wrenching in so many ways! But yeah, in the 80s, they changed Coke from cane sugar to corn syrup, iirc. The Steve/Robin moment in the bathroom was SO important-- Robin was risking so much by coming out to Steve, with how bad it was for LGBT+ people in the 80s, especially so in rural areas. Steve is so good.
I lived in a small town & remember they came and dropped off 2 cans of “new coke” on everyone’s doorstep, we were not allowed to have much pop/soda, so we went and grabbed everyone’s samples. Years later they changed it to Coke 2.
Honestly, this episode makes me so happy. Queer subtext tends to go over a lot of people's heads. People often see two guys flirting/one clearly interested in the other or two girls being romantic and their response is usually, "Wow. They're such good friends". It isn't until the character starts waving around neon signs that most people understand what the media could be implying. But if you have a guy and a girl even look at each other for a second too long people are like, "Yes. They're endgame. It's almost confirmed by now." And no. Sometimes a guy and a girl can be really close, platonic friends without being romantically involved. And I love it. Robin and Steve's friendship is amazing. Also, I know some people try to hate on Max for this season, but she's mostly right. El spent most of her life being controlled by Papa. She got a small taste of freedom in S1. But for most of S2, her life solely revolved around Hopper. And in the beginning of S3, it was mostly all about Mike. El has never been able to say, "This is what I want to do. This is how I want my life to be." Max showed her that it was okay to not have her life revolve around Hopper or Mike. They're important to her, yes. But she can care about them and simultaneously care about herself and her needs too. And it's wild. When Mike was treating Max like garbage in S2, people made excuses like, "Oh. He's just a kid. Oh, he just lost El so it's understandable." Yet when Max, someone who has a toxic life filled with other people trying to make choices for her, tries to teach El the meaning of being able to make your own choices, people are like "Max is so manipulative. She's being so mean to Mike for no reason. Ugh." Come on now.
Aww, I didn't spot The Stuff on the movie theater marquee when I watched this season before. Seriously entertaining and goofy horror movie. "Are you eating it, or is it eating you?"
Robin coming out to Steve is a huge deal. People who watch this nowadays don't realize how bad it was back in the past when homophobia was rampant. Gay people were ostracized, ridiculed, physically assaulted, & even murdered because of their sexual orientation. Often times the perpetrator went unpunished or only received light sentences because we still had laws on the books stating that homosexuality was a crime. People were literally scared to death to 'come out of the closet" because it meant possibly losing their jobs, homes, contact with family & friends, being incarcerated, loss of parental rights/custody of children, & the list goes on...

What!?!? You don't know there are different versions of regular Coca-Cola (Coke)? The majority of Coke that's on the market is the reformulated recipe. However you can still get "Classic" Coke, it's often sold in the smaller glass bottles, though it's more expensive per oz. You can also get it in the slightlier larger glass bottles, in South/Central America, which are often also imported and sold in the US...often in Latin bodegas, restaurants, and pizzerias. Also...McDonald's has it's own custom formulation of regular Coke, which tastes much better for a fountain served coke, vs any other Fast Food place. Go buy one from McDonald's and one from Burger King or Wendy's and compare. Or just look it up online.
