While the Kindle is an amazing device for reading, it isn't the best when it comes to its compatibility with popular ebook formats. That's where Calibre (calibre-ebook.com) comes to the rescue.
In addition to managing your ebooks better, it converts your books to the Kindle compatible MOBI format, transfers the books to your kindle without the need for WiFi.
It also has the ability to modify the metadata of books and download book covers to complete your library.
In this tutorial, we will learn about using Calibre to manage your e-book library better.

Great guide, everything works perfectly as of January of 2022 on Kindle Paperwhite 2021 using Mac
This is so good! My kindle was being weird and I couldn't buy books, now I just buy on google play books, covert into pdf and then convert into Kindle books using calibre! This is the best tutorial I saw, saved me hours of useless trying. Thank you so much! :)

@@SouvikSays bro, I really loved this one, was looking for simple guides and you've provided me with them. I have one major concern tho regarding this method, i. e., a lot of the serious non-fiction books that I read contain major illustrations. When I used an epub converter website, it'd do just fine, but when I'd do book with illustrations, it'd like put all the illustrations in the wrong place. Have you any experience with such books?

Illustrations are a known issue. Only saving grace Calibre has is the page setup where you can specify which device you are converting the epub for. That partially takes care of the formatting issues.
My suggestion would be to make a trial conversion and see if it helps.

When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.
Still a great guide as of September 2019. P.S If anyone can't find 'Send to device' then check that you have unlocked the passcode on your kindle physically. I had that problem.

Make sure you have connected your Kindle using the cable that came in the box and the device is not on the lock screen. It should work. If not, check if there are any USB driver updates on your PC.

Helpful hint: If Calibre does not show the "Send to Device" button after connecting the USB to the device it means that the device is not set up to allow Calibre to download books onto the device. This is solved by connecting the USB to the device, clicking on the "System - Charging this device via USB" option on the pull-down menu, and tapping for other USB options. The device will take you to the USB Preferences menu where you need to select "File Transfer". Now you should be able to download from Calibre to your Kindle/Fire device.

Hi, could you tell me where to find this drop down menu? I have this kindle for like 3 days, and the only thing it says when it's plugged into my computer is "if you wanna charge but browse the store *and more*, just disconnect but keep it plugged in to your pc". Which is fine, but I have no menu whatsoever :( Please help!
Richard is referring to a Fire device I think. You should see the "Send to Kindle" option on Calibre if you are receiving the message. If not, just try using a different cable to connect.

Getting frustrated with the new update on Kindle. Can finally send epub files on Kindle BUT couldn't see the cover art thumbnail. Will try this Calibre and edit the metadata. Thanks for the clear instructions! Gonna go back here if it works 🤞

DUDE does that mean that I can buy the 3 month kindle unlimited membership and download thousands of books and then can make an offline copy of them to my PC for later reading even after the 3 months expire. that is just sickkk man, I will purchase the kindle ASAP

Hey Souvik, today is Black Friday, 11/24/23, and I just bought an Amazon Fire 7 tablet with a 7” display, with 10-hour battery life (2022 release), 16 GB, and Black for my niece for Christmas. I also have a list of ebooks I want to load on it before giving it to her. My question is, can I use Calibre to do this, or does it only work on Amazon Kindle tablets exclusively? Thanks for any info you can provide, and a BIG thank you for this video. It's by far one of the more thorough and easy-to-follow videos I've come across today. -Much respect and appreciation
Hey Marty, a Fire tablet is completely different from a Kindle E-reader. Calibre won't work on it. If you are planning to load the e-books on the Kindle app in the Fire tablet, try the "send to Kindle" method.

This really helped a lot. The only thing i have a problem with is the cover is not transferred to my kindle. It will only appear for a few seconds then it will disappear. What should i do?
Happens with me a few times as well. I usually delete the book and send it to my device once again. That fixes the issue 99% of the time.

hi i have this issue where when converting the file to mobi it has been 30 minutes and yet its still on 1%. please let me know what i could do to speed things up/fix the issue
There can be 2 potential reasons for this:
1. The book you are trying to convert is DRM protected
2. The language is not supported
I would suggest that you cancel the operation and try to convert once again. Of the issue persists, try converting another book. If the issue is still there, see if there is an update for Calibre available. That's the maximum I can suggest without experiencing the issue first hand.

Is it appearing in your Kindle library on your e-reader? If yes, then you can download it on to your app as well. If no, then email it to the kindle email ID for your account (can be found under settings). I hope that this helps.

A nice guide. I didnt face any problems while converting but when I open the .mobi file on Kindle from the Library, it feels like just opening a pdf file. Its not formatted according to the Kindle screen. I still had to zoom in and scroll the pages, which is a pain. While converting I also set the output profile to Kindle pw3. The headings are still shown as normal text that is aligned to the body text which makes it more confusing.
That is strange. Were you converting a pdf or some other format?
@@SouvikSays Yeah I was converting from pdf to MOBI. I have paperwhite 4. I tried so many things:
1. Tried downloading .mobi files directly and loading into kindle using USB
2. Tried sending the pdf file through kindle email
3. Tried with Calibre
4. Tried with AZW3 format too

Where can I get free ebooks. I notice a lot of sellers sell with preloaded books. By some top authors. Sometimes 1000 plus books. I’m disabled so don’t have a lot of money but love reading as bed bound and would love to be able to access more book.

I have calibre and used it in the past with my old kindle. Since buying the new paperwhite my pc has stopped recognising my kindle. When I say doesn't recognise I mean when I plug it in, nothing. Tried to google this problem and found nothing. Got in touch with Amazon who advised a factory reset. Brilliant. Now it still doesn't work and the hundreds of books I had acquired over the years have now disappeared. The ones I got from Amazon are still in the cloud, but I've lost hundreds of books I sourced from elsewhere. I've still got them on an old hd but I can't get them onto my kindle. It's not just the pc either. I've tried it on 3 different laptops and two desktops pc's with the same result.
Only suggestion I can provide is to check for an update to your Calibre software. As per what I found out, Calibre added support for the new Paperwhite sometime around Nov 2018. I hope that this helps.

this works perfectly except when i add the book to my kindle the cover disappears. i put one on my pc and when i transfer to the kindle the cover is there for a second or two then disappears. any help?
Try updating Calibre. Happened with me for a while. Once I updated, it was gone.
@@SouvikSays I fixed it :^) all i had to do was:
connect kindle -> upload book on kindle -> disconnect kindle -> wait for cover to disappear -> reconnect kindle -> eject it from the calibre app -> then when u look at the kindle the cover is there. updating didnt really do anything
That's interesting. My problem with disappearing cover was due to some restrictions introduced by Amazon. Old version of Calibre was not able to bypass the restrictions. It was fixed in a newer version.
@@SouvikSays Yeah i read an article about that, but that was for some reason not the issue for me. Article also mentioned the bypass method i used :^)

Hello, i would like to know, i bought book from google book. I downloaded it and put on calibre, but when i tried to convert its said "Could not convert the book because no supported source format was found". I downloaded in Google Books with acsm format
Probably because calibre doesn't support acsm files. Are you sure you picked the correct file? As far as I know, Google Books are in epub format.
