Alyson Hannigan was a big fan of the band Nerf Herder. After they cast her for the role of Willow, she recommended the band to the Joss, and that is how the song got picked. In one of the scenes, Willow's locker is open and she has a Nerf Herder sticker on the inside of her locker.

This is a sign of Buffy's life long depression.
It's also a reference to Le Petit Mort.... She's implying an intense sexual experience.
The thing is, the reason Giles looks a bit weak sometimes is because he's up against Buffy, who has slayer strength
Note how Scoobies' chain of command is established. Buffy is the leader, Giles her number 2, that we know. When both are not there, Willow takes charge. If she also leaves, Xander manages whatever resources he has. The show is actually pretty consistent with that.

And if you haven't noticed that it's Buffy who makes decisions, not Giles, I'm not sure which series you've been watching. His role is usually to advise and provide information.

I was at a comic con last week where I met James Marsters who plays spike and he’s still an absolute FOX!
I also met Charisma Carpenter who plays Cordelia and I was shaking most to meet her cause he is still a 10/10 knock out and THE queen bee. I almost wanted her to insult me just like Cordelia but she was so nice.
I've seen pictures and James has aged but still hot. Charisma Carpenter has NOT aged.

There was a plan to have something likes this back in episode 3, "Witch". They would go to the science class, as they did in the aired episode, but the cabinet with the necessary ingredients would be locked. So, Giles would smash the glass with his fist, hinting that he is not just a bumbling librarian. They abandoned the plan, because it was too early in the series, and they didn't even know if they would be renewed.
Ethan Rayne is played by the late Robin Sachs, who was the villain in the movie _Galaxy Quest_ as well as the voice of Zaeed Massani in the _Mass Effect_ trilogy. He passed away in 2013.

FINALLY you have met Ripper! Now you know that Giles can kick butt & he isn't just a book nerd. This is my favorite H'ween episode.
The Halloween episode is one of my favorites of the season. It's in the rotation of stuff I have to watch every October.
You know, I think that at least part of Giles seeming incompetent is he's training/fighting Buffy, a trained superhuman with super-strength, crazy reflexes etc. etc. or tussling with vampires who also have super-strength etc. But if you put him against an actual regular human being he can really kick ass. It's less that Giles is incompetent as that he's out of his league a little with vampires or a slayer. He's very capable and I think that his 'overconfidence' is partly due to not thinking through that a Slayer is called that for a reason, and partly due to Buffy endlessly giving the impression of being a helpless normal Valley Girl, so he gets taken by surprise because he's not thinking about it that way.
Also, as Ethan suggests, he may be partly handicapped by trying too hard to be 'regular dorky Giles' without any shades of 'Ripper' coming through.
One of my favorite things to watch for in Buffy reactions, is when reactors switch from calling Cordelia to calling her Cordy. :)
Buffy has amazing halloween episodes ❤
Halloween was a good fun entertaining episode, but also containing some great reveals. Firstly anyone who thought Giles was this prim and proper bookworm Englishman better think again, yes he is of course this, but we are introduced to the interminable, yes interminable Ethan Rayne, and we first get to see Giles called 'Ripper'. Willow also has to come out of her sheepish ways and take control, we see her first outfit, and then revert to the ghost costume. Oz is gradually being introduced through his attraction to Willow. Buffy hams it up as the 'lady' from the past and it is great when she breaks free of the spell 'guess what Honey I'm home'. All in all you can see the episodes getting better and better as the Series progresses.
Angel's blue date night 'costume' is actually so cute. It reminds you how incredibly awkward and clueless he really is 😅

I have two of the Buffy games and I HIGHLY recommend xD They are great fun and I'm currently re-playing them thanks to you guys
There are two Buffy video games on consoles that I know of; Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Xbox, backwards compatible on the 360, not sure about Xbox 1), and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds (Xbox, Gamecube, PS2).
The first one you only play as Buffy, although there is a cheat to do story mode in coop. In Chaos Bleeds you play as multiple characters.
I would absolutely watch you play them!

yessssss!!! the reveal of ripper. love it so much. buffy always has good Halloween episodes. they didn't do many of them but they are all good. and so happy to see seth green appreciating willow as she should be appreciated.
Buffy was the first series I ever binged because my friend had Seasons 1-4 dvd's. It was an amazing week 😅
The guy who drugged the girls in the first episode is actually playing a bigger role as Dan, the neighbor, in Charmed later on 🙂

I know that after buffy ended there was supposed to be a series centered on Giles and the bbc was supposed to help make it, of course it never happend but id still love a series with maybe a younger giles and have anthony stuart head as a narrator.
there was also supposed to be a spike show. and theres a promo for a animated buffy the vampire slayer show here on youtube, it also never happend. i believe most of the cast was doing the voices.
fun fact: anthony stuart head aka giles is the brother of the singer from the 80's hit "one night in bangkok", so hes also a real good singer.
If I understand correctly, BBC had their own plans to revive a certain scifi/fantasy show, and they wasn't keen on creating a rival to themselves.
Fun fact; Tony Head took over the role in Chess from his brother in the West End.
The best Anthony Head performance in my opinion is as Frank-n-Furter on the stage...

Love the Halloween episode! It feels like a more serious version of Halloweentown: Kalabar's Revenge (a movie that has a similar premise to this episode - can't remember how well it was though, hadn't watched it since the '90s/2000's).
A lot of the music in Buffy and Angel is by real bands, particularly in the Bronze. Nerf Herder named themselves after the Star Wars dialog and do songs about SF movies and TV shows. They will eventually make an appearance in an episode.
This Halloween episode is my favorite!!!!!!

There's 2 Buffy games. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (XBOX) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds (PS2 and XBOX)! Both are great! I love Chaos Bleeds a lot because you get to play as other characters as well but it might get spoilery since they use Big Bads from later seasons from the show. (Just checked and there's also different BtVS games for GameBoy Advanced, GameBoy Color and Nintendo DS.)

In reptile boy, I think we saw the girl in The basement being escorted out wrapped up in a blanket , if my memory is good …
Regarding Giles fighting with Buffy vs Ethan. Since the show is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, much of what we see is from Buffy's perspective. With few exceptions, we see the other characters as Buffy sees them, not as they really are. Because Buffy sees him as more of the bumbling Librarian, then that is what we are shown. But when Buffy was under the spell, she wasn't really Buffy, so we finally got to see Giles as he really is. He is much more skilled a fighter than we typically see, because we typically see him as Buffy sees him. Of course it helps that he is hiding his badass dark side from Buffy too.
So since you mentioned the lamia, I have to ask, have you guys seen Merlin? If not, I think you two would have so much fun with it!

the one thing I do not envy for you is the wait...from episode to episode. The seeing it all for the first time...THAT I envy! Giles remains a favorite character for me...often underestimated, always feeling a little out of place as he tries to wrangle half wild teenagers into some sort of coherent force against evil, but also a character with a dark past of his own and a wild side he'd like to forget...(some of which will be revealed as the show goes on...but I refuse to spoiler anything that might be a fun discovery later.) The entire cast (and writing team) slowly become an ensemble level group of performers...in many way, this show pushed players to raise their bar for performance...and while Joss Whedon is justifiably out of favor for his bullying conduct toward some of the more vulnerable actors (worth noting: it shows a lot of cowardice that he didn't bully ALL of them...just the ones he was sure would tolerate it), it remains true that he built a 'great actors factory' on the set of Buffy, pushing people to make a seemingly silly TV show into a powerhouse of memorable moments. O, the journey you have ahead of you!!
I used to own the Buffy game a long time ago. It was fun, though I don't think I ever finished it. This Halloween episode is one of my favorite comedic episodes.
My favorite holiday episodes are the Christmas episodes. I love Christmas, and u can do so many things with a Christmas episode. I'm thinking Chucky's Christmas episode was my favorite of all, It was so good!
I vote yes on the Buffy video game! I used to have it, it's not so bad (as far as video games based on tv shows go). I seem to remember getting softlocked somehow frustratingly early in the game.
I never read the book, but I loved the goosebumps show The Haunted Mask, and my other favorite was always Stay Out of The Basement.
1. I have a Haunted Mask from Goosebumps the show , it’s a display but it’s a real mask. Amazon babyyy lol. It’s definitely the best book and episode.
2. Halloweentown 2:Kalabars Revenge did the whole “you turn into your costume” which is also a favorite of mine. Just thought I’d throw those tidbits out there
The Buffy video games I believe for the Xbox. First one takes place as a season 2 episode I believe. Then the sequel is a post season 4 episode. They are decent games. Fun and gives you a good Buffy feel. I’d recommend playing them if you like games.
I had both the original Buffy game & Chaos Bleeds for Xbox when I was in high school (dating myself I know 😩😂) and I absolutely loved them. So sad I got rid of all my old games. Would love to watch you guys play them. I just finished watching your entire Until Dawn play through and it was so much fun. 😁

Don't know about US, but at least in some countries driving a car with the steering wheel being on the other side is totally legal. Although it did cause some confusion when a traffic cop stops the car, gets the "driver" to step out, but then the car just takes off, because that "driver" is actually a passenger.
To my knowledge it’s legal in the US because some mail trucks can be on the right side so it’s easier for mailmen to reach postal boxes from their trucks. So you could import a car like that fine I think.

Loving these reactions so much! Idk if you guys have ever heard of it but did you ever see the show Swans Crossing? It might have been a little before your time but it was one of Sarah Michelle Gellars first shows and it’s like an early 90s soap opera for tween/teens. We were obsessed with it when I was younger and I just recently found out it’s on Tubi. Idk if it would work for your channel but you should at least check it out on your free time!
I hope around October we get a reaction/rewatch marathon for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movis since the franchise is turning 50 this years because i am aware that some of those movies i know you havent seen yet. I dont even have any idea on whether or not you've seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre and that's considered one of the better of the films

I’m assuming Makeda was probably a reference to the Naga of Hindu/Buddhist/Jainist myth. The world nagas inhabit contain all the wealth of the earth and whatnot. But I think most Nagas either appear as a large snake, or as their human features(whether half human or in full human form) being very attractive. Alternatively, it could be some form of mermaid/merman. I wonder why they went with Makeda though, as I’m pretty sure that’s one of the names thought to have been associated with The Queen of Sheba. Anyways, my culture(African American) call them Simbi or Mami Watas among other things. They can give you riches and protection. They’re ambivalent though, not like Ariel. There’s an African American tale called Sukey and The Mermaid where this happens. This is a pretty common thing in most mermaid tales across the globe. Snakes are often associated with Mami Watas. They’ll either have a snake around their neck or the lower half of a fish or serpent. So that kinda connects to Makeda. But they’re usually depicted as beautiful(though people who’ve experiences with mermaids often claim otherwise). However in many European mermaid tales, mermen are considered to be ugly.
It rather reminded me of the creatures in Beastmaster if you've ever seen the film?

I think “Ripper” is a play on Giles’ first name, Rupert, alongside being a slight reference to Jack The Ripper just to be edgy.
Ripper is also a style of guitar.

The Buffy video games are both great so would fully support streaming them BUT the 1st game is set around mid-season 3 and so is better done after season 3 to make certain to avoid any spoilers. The Second game (Chaos Bleeds) is technically set midway through season 5 (ish) but there are spoilers for Season 7 that I'd recommend playing after finishing the show. (or at least that's what I remember)

Halloween is one of my favorite episodes. Ethan Rayne causes chaos for the fun of it as a devotee of Janus, and we meet a side of Giles we haven't seen before. Remember that his first name is Rupert, so Ripper could be based on that. Where he learned to fight like that, who knows? Watchers are trained to train Slayers so some combat training must be involved. But where did Ethan come in? It's a mystery!

OMG Plzzzz play the Buffy video games! They are both so fun. So, the first one is only for first Gen. Xbox, but is backwards compatible, so it plays on an Xbox 360 as well. I am not certain about other consoles later on. The same goes for the sequel game BTVS: Chaos Bleeds. The sequel game is on Xbox, PS2, and GameCube Consoles and is also compatible with the Xbox 360. Chaos Bleeds also has a multiplayer game option, but the campaign is only single player sadly. I still own them both and play them from time to time.

In Buffy Fanfiction, the Halloween episode is one of the biggest story launch points/tropes, enough that a few of the dedicated buffy fanfic sites have a category/name for fics based on it. It's YAHF (Yet Another Halloween Fic). In these stories our heroes end up in so many different costumes, from Buffy being a female Iron Man to her being Supergirl, or Xander becoming a Terminator, or Magento, and Willow becoming Scarlet Witch, etc, etc. In the end, most of the fics even have them keeping the skills or memories of their characters after halloween and using them in the fight for good.
One of my favorite ones has Buffy still wearing the red dress and after Halloween she keeps randomly pulling a frying pan from nowhere to hit people with and people are like, huh, where do you keep getting those!? And she's all like, I have no idea. Later its revealed (when her hair grows super long) that she turned into Rapunzel.
