Hi DS, Can you post a comparison between Thonet and Vander Kugel 2.0 and Edifier (specially S2000 MKiii/pro)? There are no comparisons online between these two speakers. Thanks in advance
Edifier has a bit more bass but at the same time sounds more muddy than the JBL. Edifier is less flat and has a more rolled off frequency response up high
i heard the jbl in real life.. this video does not even come close to what they deliver. They are pure production monitors that split every tone apart. I think the Edifier are probably something for consumers that love a good warm sound. I would not like to listen all day on the JBL speakers to be honest. But they are extremely precise.
JBL is a studio monitor, Edifier is for music listening. Edifier bass seems bigger only because of the lack of missing midrange detail. Majority of music is in the midrange frequencies. just listen to the difference when the strings play. JBL complete sound takes the win easily.
That's completely the opposite of what I hear. The JBL sounds like it has a distinct V signature, with the treble elevated and the mids recessed with the bass left intact. The Edifier keeps the mid-bass to mids flat with the treble but in doing so loses some clarity in the treble and high mids.
I like the upper section of the JBL but to be honest they are bass light which means going up an inch on the cone at least but the price goes up too with that. I have the S1000db MK3 (broke the optical door off in the first hour) and in a 5m x 5m room with high ceilings and they sound pretty good. The upper section can be enhanced with the treble on the rear but in real life I found them ok with both bass and treble on center dial but prefered my bass at 1.00 o'clock. The bluetooth volume is a little lower and needs to be cranked a bit but the sound quality is definitely decent. I used an iphone 7 which uses the AAC codec and the clarity is very good, connectivity is instant and reliable. APTX HD is yet to be tested but i do know it wont be worse than the iphones AAC which is better than the SBC standard BT code. I was going to go for the JBLs but the sheer versatility of the Edifiers in respect of connections and tweaking power nailed it. They are also very loud and given my environment the 5.5 inch cone, 1 inch tweeter and 120 watts RMS with hi res hd music is easily enough for both myself and the neighbours. Also no need for exterior DAC which would be needed with any monitor speaker as I use these for TV with Amazon HD music on Apple TV 4K 5th gen (again codec limited). So lets say the Topping E30 for the DAC would add another £109 currently to the price. If I was going down the monitor route then I think the Adam T5V would have the edge over the JBLs due to the better bass and fairly equal upper section and although just a fraction more expensive but the slight lack of low end on the 305s can be a deal breaker for any bass lover like me. Saying all that, admittedly i have not heard them in person yet.
The tweeter wave guard is causing the highs to sound squashed like coming from a horn. With the Edifier S1000, you dont notice the highs coming from the tweeter whereas i'm constantly drawn into the tweeter with JBL 305P.
with different purpose in mind, I immediately noticed that edifier is designed to be a listening devices. JBL is not for everyday enjoyment, it had another different purpose.
the JBLs are actually a great midway between crystal clear untouched Studio Monitor sound, and enjoyable rich sound (Defenetly recommend a sub with the JBLs tho) ^^
The JBL LSR305P is a member of the JBL Professional studio monitoring lineup, and I would wager that there are way more JBL speakers used in recording studios than Edifier. The JBL sounds much closer to the Source Track !

Hi DS, I am a dutch guy living in Spain. Have listened and read reviews from a lot of tests. I tried the Edifier 1700BT and the 880DB. I am undecided on the JBL 305P MKII vs M Audio BX5 D3 could you please do a video on these. I know you have done a video before on the first gen JBL vs M Audio. It would be great to also include your preference on the Video's and why in the chat. I think you do and amazing job with these videos however you are handling these Speakers everyday and as much as you do your best to record the speakers to the best of your ability it would be appreciated to have your say as well.
They are both good in their own way (studio monitor vs hi-fi), but considering that the Edifier's cost 150 euros more, the Jbl's are the best bargain, even for just listening to music (one can, if necessary, set the High-Frequency trim at -2db to slightly "smothen" the sound) .
Highs and high mids JBL, lower mids and bass Edifier. I would guess different use cases though, Edifier would be excellent for home theater or casual listening with it's added capabilities, JBL as an affordable all-rounder for mixing or anything else.
Neither offer the flat response and midi-range of Yamaha for mixing, but the Edifiers are great for listening and good value. Depends on what your need?
My Edifier R2000DB is music to my ears, WITH THE EXCEPTION of under 80HZ bass. It excels in classic rock, acoustic and classics but somewhat underperforms in EDMs and HipHop
