Nice setup, Taco looks great. Running 265 75 r16 also but with Nitto Ridge Grapplers, have almost 20k miles on them.. I'll eventually switch to BFG KO2 for the three peak snow rating.. I just like being able to have a full size spare under the bed.
Your truck looks great! Mine is almost its twin (black 22 TRD off road DCLB). I went with 4Runner TRD pro wheels (17”) and K02s so I could run the lighter C-load tires (265/70/17), but I think I like the look of yours better with the taller sidewalls. I’d suggest red letters in the tail gate Tacoma stamping and a BakFlip tonneau cover (I went with both of these and really liked the result).
Thanks for the info and recommendations! Did you buy the truck and have the 17” wheel’s installed before you left the dealer or did you make the jump to the 17” wheels afterwards?
@@westcoasttaco I had the truck about 6 months before I made the decision to go with 17” wheels (I really liked the wheel design and there are definitely more tire options for 17” wheels). I have a two inch lift running falcon shocks and 32 inch Kenda Klever AT2's...They aren't bad and I get similar milage to what you're getting. Hi I have a 22 Tac o OR 4x4 . I want to do the same thing like you get the TRD lift kit 2-1 inch . I had Method nv305 in mind going with a 17 inch wheel 265/70/17 falken or BF ko2. I like your set up how much did you have to spend on the TRD lift kit?
Hey! So I purchased the lift kit for close to $1500.00 on eBay. However the way I purchased it and had it installed wasn’t the typical “dealer route”. I like the idea of what you plan to do. I posted videos in my channel of the process I went through of me ordering this kit and how I went about the installation. I would check them out, as I tried to provide as much detail as possible. Let me know if there are any questions and I’ll gladly help. Enjoy and good luck!
Did you experience any change to your speedometer reading, and can you share your MPG with your new tires. Truck looks great, I’m convinced this will be my next size set.
It’s a mill wave radar the calibration process consists of placing a metal receiver cone at the manufacturer designated distance, there is a laser on the cone and the cone slides up and down. So you adjust the laser so it’s on the bottom edge of radar module then ease the cone around 21mm up from there the use the adas scanner to initiate calibration. The radar module on the truck also has angle adjustments but you usually don’t have to mess with those unless the vehicle has been in an accident. Technically, you should recalibrate your radar to compensate for the lower placement. Although your Lyft has probably counter acted some of that. I calibrate these systems for a living.
That’s some great information you shared. I really appreciate you explaining the process for us. It’s always helpful have a better understanding of how these procedures are done. Thanks for the knowledge!
You only need to calibrate if you use the new sensor included with the kit. (It’s a clean slate sensor no calibration flashed to it). I installed the trd lift my self and paid the dealer to calibrate the new sensor (350 usd). Haven’t had any issues with the lift, it’s perfect for those of us that do light off-roading / trails.
@@IzaguirreC thanks for the info Christian. So when I installed the grille I used the original TSS Sensor and kept the new one for a “rainy day” if something happened with my original TSS Sensor. Thanks again!
Loved the idea! I just got a base access cab 4 cyls ice cap 2023. I'll be retiring next year so I wanted a truck to haul lumber dry wall ....etc. also loved tacomas. Base wheels now are 245/75R16. I'm thinking about going with the same tires and wheels liked you have without any lift. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Right on! And congrats! That would be nice! Some tire shops (at least the ones I’ve been to) will let you test the size of a tire on your truck before you purchase them. Since the wheel diameter won’t change you would probably be safe to order the new rims regardless and then play with the tire size at the shop to make sure you don’t have any fitting issues. Did you get a auto or manual? Congrats again on the taco and almost retirement!
Thanks for the tips! I wanted a manual transmission but they are hard to get. Also I might lift and get the pro grill someday like you did just for looks. But then again I'm debating because I'm not going off roading. Thanks again and merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Thanks for watching! Is your question in regards to the tires or the lift or both? Regardless my ride quality has only improved by doing the TRD lift and adding the BFGoodrich tires.. The suspension made my driving experience “tighter” and got rid of that “squishy/lazy” feel the stock suspension had.. definitely a big improvement.. the KO2 tires have been really nice as well. Not sure what tires you currently have, but if ware currently not running an all terrain tire and running the stock sport tires you may notice a less smoother ride and more noise with these.. I went from the Good Year Wrangler Kevlar A/T tires to these so for me the ride quality from the tires didn’t change much except for the extra 1” of height I got.. long story short.. I’m loving everything about my current setup. Hope this helps.. feel free to reach out with any questions!
@@westcoasttaco I have the stock Firestone 265 65 17s. Some I’m sure there will be little more noise but doesn’t seem like your mileage changed which is great. I also have KO2s but kept it straight stock size 265/70r16. Love the tires but they definitely suck in the rain…they slip bad from my experience. That’s the only drawback but worth it based on looks alone. Wondering if you notice the same thing. Not sure where you live but here in Hawaii they are an issue in all the rain we get.
I live in San Diego, California. We hardly get rain down here.. so that would be hard for me to tell.. but I have heard other people make similar remarks as you have when it comes to how they handle in the rain.
Nice truck man! I really like your setup, I just bought my new off road Tacoma and I’m thinking to get the same set up but I asked for the TRD 16” wheels and I was told there only come on 17”

Great look indeed ( I did the same OEM upgrade on wheels) ... heavy E rated BFG's are a deal killer for me. Taco engine is meant for lighter tires, IMO. On the 75 vs 70 size - I don't think anyone mentioned speedometer in comments - is it off now? Unlike many on Tacoma World, etc. my 2021 TRD OR speedo is DEAD on from factory w/ speedometer... hate to screw that up just for a mere half inch gain in height?
Thanks! I have done a couple drive-by tests on the radar’s that I see posted around town. And thankfully they’ve been pretty much spot on. For me the thought of being a mile or two off isn’t that big of a deal.. Now if it was somewhere between 5 and 10pm that may be a different story🤣.. so far so good though! Thanks for tuning in!
Nice look, do you think 265 75 16 will clear on factory height? Planning on 75’s but don’t want any rubbing or hitting the upper control arms. Thanks man.
Yes, it should clear with no issues👍🏼. From what I’ve read the 265/75/16 is the only r16 tire that will fit on a factory Tacoma without any rubbing or trimming needed. You can also ask the tire shop to try one on before you buy them just to be safe. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Imo I think the longbed looks better! It seems like everyone likes the 5’ bed though for some reason? I’m in Washington state so going to be going up mountains and deserts so people told me the king bed won’t do as well because it’s brake over angle is worse? I got bigger tires and plan to do same lift. I’m thinking that should make it as good or better than 5’ bed off road? Any thoughts anyone??? 🙋♂️
Agreed. I feel like the 6ft bed makes the truck look more balanced. I’ve spoken with a lot of people that like the extra bed space for storage when overlanding. Since the 5ft is the more common setup obviously the 6ft bed is more scarcely seen on the trails. However, with the right tires and lift I don’t see how it would be an issue to compensate for the brake angle that comes with owning the 6ft bed. I would be interested to hear some other opinions as well! Thanks Paul
it’s less about the looks for me and more about wanting bed space over cab space and keeping wheel base shorter hence why i like the access cabs, which imo is better for off roading. Longer wheel base with the 4 door long bed is good for towing but still a badass off roader as well.
I have the KO2’s on my 2021 Tacoma 265/75/r16 (they were cheaper than the 70 lol) and it’s factory height and it doesn’t rub at all, I think the 265/75 is the biggest you can run without rubbing
That’s great to know! Yeah I figured anything bigger than the 265/75/r16’s would have rubbing issues.. especially on a stock Taco. Thanks for checking out the channel!
Hey I just picked up a set same size load rating E stock truck wondering if I should stick with this load rating since I know E load rating maybe overkill for 98% on pavement driving. I’m conflicted if I should switch to SL wildpeaks. Purely for mpgs and ride comfortability.
@@jewelcitytrash11 I have had my KO2’s on for several months now and I’m really enjoying them. Hasn’t seemed to affect my mpgs too much. My guess is the ride quality of the wp’s would be more comfortable but I have never had them so it’s just my guess.. anyone ran both KO2’s and WP’s? Any preference between the two?
@@westcoasttaco I guess the only issue about running wildpeaks or ko2s on 265/75/16s is that ko2s only come in E load rating opposed to the wildpeaks or Toyo open country’s both available on SL load rating.
@@westcoasttaco essentially it’s about a 10lbs difference between wildpeaks and ko2s. Read many threads on tacomaworld about the differences between the two it just narrows down to Load rating and for what I use my truck the ko2s are overkill (load rating wise) but if both were SL I’m sure more taco ownerswill lean towards them. Yep, so there are four cameras on this truck. One in the front on the grille, one on the tail gate, and one under the drivers and passengers side mirror.
All of the cameras including the front camera came factory on the original grille. It’s part of the “advanced technology package”. I'm hoping that I will get my Tacoma (Black/TRD Sport/4x4/4-door/6 foot bed) this week. I will more than likely follow your lead because I love the look.
@@westcoasttaco Even the small things like going with 265 or 275 is just a minor concern before I give myself the green light. Those tires are amazing. I'm still studying others Tacoma owner's work/choices. Raptor lights would be a good look. I'm also all about blacking out my truck.
I find it curious that you are averaging 20 mpg in a Tacoma with more aggressive tread and a lift. Especially when most people with stock setups are averaging around 16 mpg. And that’s with a tire that is far less aggressive tread pattern. I think you should go back and recalculate the miles and actual gas used to get a more acceptable reading.
David thanks for reaching out 👍🏼. So a few attributing factors on this one.. My truck is tuned with the Overland Torque Tune which increased my mpgs by about 2 mpg. I also run premium fuel.. many people don’t realize that the V6 in the Tacoma is the same exact engine that is in the IS 350.. however the Tacomas engine has been “tuned down” to run 87 octane.. even before getting the truck tuned I noticed a significant increase in performance and drivability when running premium octane vs a regular blend.. after getting the truck tuned with combining it with premium fuel the truck has been driving incredibly well. Lastly my average drive is 80% highway with no traffic.. this keeps my mpgs higher and keeps really close to 20.7 . If I hit some traffic it might be closer to 18.5.. hope this helps.

@@westcoasttaco I hate attracting cops eyes. Solar Octane just screams, look at me! I think the 265/75/R16's on a 2 inch lift or less are a perfect balance for the daily suburban commuter/weekend warrior... I have a two inch lift running falcon shocks and 32 inch Kenda Klever AT2's...They aren't bad and I get similar milage to what you're getting. But the look on your truck with those KO2's convinced me to get a set of those on my next set of tires...
I have the same truck as you I put the alpha Rex tail lights on it. They look so good the smoked ones!
That’s awesome dude! Mine are coming in shortly! Great minds think alike I suppose! LoL. I also have some other LED setups on order as well! Stay tuned bro!

Zero rub and honestly very quiet all things considered. I have the at 40psi for on road driving.
Honestly I didn’t do anything to recalibrate it. When I’ve driven past speed radars it’s been really close.. and almost spot on.
Merry Christmas too.
@@westcoasttaco no problem. Sorry for the misspellings I used Siri and I just noticed.

Planning on ordering this size but with the new wildpeak at4w. Possibly going with a negative offset wheel. Anyone know if it will rub with this size?
How is the ride quality ? I have 17” rims on my 22 sport and really like the look

They work really well. Mine clear easily ( 1" higher from the factory 24575R16's) improve ground clearance, better traction, and look real good.

If you mentioned your wheels, I missed it. Are they Toyota wheels ?
They are, they are the Tacoma TRD Pro 16” wheels.. 2nd version.
Very nice looking truck.
Beautiful Taco. do those steps unbolt for rock crawling?
Yes they do unbolt from the frame of the truck. I have a pair of sliders to switch them out with. Install video and comparison coming soon.
Damn that is nice, not to many all blacked it like this but its badass!
Thank you! Always a work in progress 🤙🏼
Is that the anytime camera or did it come factory on the front grill?
Yep, so there are four cameras on this truck. One in the front on the grille, one on the tail gate, and one under the drivers and passengers side mirror.
All of the cameras including the front camera came factory on the original grille. It’s part of the “advanced technology package”. However the camera used to be located under the Toyota emblem on the original grille. When you install the heritage/pro grille the front camera is then relocated to the top of the grille. If you watch my first video you will see what the setup was like before. Hope this helps!

@@westcoasttaco thanks, that makes it more reasonable.
