Lots of people fall into the habit of thinking GW is this one big homogenous entity when it’s not, it’s made of lots of little teams. Seeing the care and craft that’s gone into this edition, I have to imagine there’s some frustrated creative somewhere agonising over the fact they can’t give us the rest of the factions because of some corporate, board room bullshit. Something I just discovered and I feel like sharing it becaue I think it opens up some interessting discussions; Night Goblin Squig Hoppers just got a bunch of new upgrade options they didn't have before... they now get to have lances, armour and a unit champion. My wife and I were driving while I listened to this. We loved the mention of the Blues Brothers. We then started talking about how no one under 40 would get the reference, more than likely. Great episode.
Great episode, regarding discussing step up at 2:04:00 read The Fighting Rank rule. This, in my opinion, rebalances the lack of step up and create a lot of tactical decision making you have to make about your formations. I think there is a lot to figure out and oddball situations regarding champions, heroes etc but I'm really keen to see how this plays out.
I've been binging your videos all weekend as an outlet for my nostalgia/hype. I'm really loving Rob's (new?) thing about insisting that he is, in fact, encouraging viewers to steal and generally commit crimes. Cracks me up every time :D
@@SquareBasedOldWorldGood to hear! Most gaming related podcasts are too afraid to ask hard questions like "stealing - is it really so bad?" I had a great time getting caught up with the Old World through your podcasts this weekend. I'm starting to (hesitantly) feel more and more excited about this game. Doesn't hurt that all the work done by artists and designers just look excellent so far. Those launch boxes and books are beautiful! And from what I read over the shoulder of Man Who Reads, the rules look really solid and thought through. It's looking increasingly likely that I will finally build that Wood Elves army 10-years-old me dreamed about back in the 90's :)
Killing it with the continued content lads, really enjoying all your old world stuff! Agree totally with your “legacy” views,I own high elves, empire, skaven & vc,so 50% is out (both evil) according to Gw…..now I want to play them more! Long live the renegade factions! Keep up the great work!
I wanted to shoutout SN Battlereports for their Old World batrep featuring High Elves and Beastmen! They do a lot of HH content so now they are scratching two of my itches.
Well said about those that posted 'The Game is Dead' thumbnails! Not sure if you are familiar with the eccentric Dr Blaxill who is a Warhammer: Old World Fanatic, but might be worth looking at if you have the time. He's a bit marmite, but I love his eccentricity and knowledge!
"You don't want to play these factions. We're giving you free PDFs instead of charging £50 for some books." GW, why are you threatening me with a good time?
I’m so gutted I could not get anything I wanted on the pre-order. For international customers not in one of the main regions (EU, US, GB, NZ and Oz) the stock was almost non existent and disappeared in moments. I wish we could do the pre-order where you have to wait, but you get an ETA to order fulfilment
At my little boys football match and didn't check my phone till 11.45 and by then my hopes of a bretonians set was long gone. For the first time I'm looking at 3d prints.
I just got myself that Stormcast set with the three dragons before seeing this video 😂 I'm going to convert all three into Chaos Lord on Dragon, for three different Marks of Chaos. I also got an out of box set of sprues for Chaos Chosen, and am debating whether I'm going to build them as Chosen or use them for the conversions.
@@Komandieidk… didn’t want to press. I’m assuming only forgeworld stuff in 8th for everything? There is some other stuff like hobgobblins and blunderbusses on IG that had rules but no models, these I wonder about
I just bought a lizardmen AoS army. Putting it on square bases. It galls me I'm contributing to the AoS balance sheet, but as you said, it's the only way I an get an army *right now*. And the minis are lovely! Can't wait to play with my "renegade faction".
I'm damn happy they re-released old models that I have been wanting for a very long time. I wanted to get more of the Brettonians across the board. I hoped that I could get all the old ones that were discontinued in 2015. Now I can :)
Hmmm, this time I might eventually finish that chaos warrior army I promised myself a while ago. Some oddities in the rules of the AoS version always threw me off. Looks like I'll simply have to squarebase them!
I think GW is going to see spikes in sales in AoS factions like beastmen or gits, and take notice. Sure, it will count to the AoS balance sheet, but anyone can figure out why in mid January all of a sudden Seraphon and Beasts of Chaos just started flying off the shelf.
You guys better do some Joey Berry style lore of magic reviews once they’ve sorted out all the stock. I wanna see Rob pulling rabbits outta hats for illusion school, hammering stuff with a massive hand, setting off pyrotechnics for elementalism the works man. Not sure what you could do for High magic. Maybe do that one on the 20th of April.
I feel like Vals point at the end there about accepting 32ml rounds as a community approved - "stick em on a movement tray and come join the party" - standard is incredibly important. There are thousands of AOS players out there who might never bother to check the game out otherwise, because rebasing is a faff, who would be stoked to just give it a crack if all they have to do is grab a few movement trays! Not to mention people who find kitbashing intimidating.
When my gaming group got into Kings of War I found a bunch of movement trays that I could use for my round based fantasy minis. There are a bunch of companies in the US that make them like Litko, Tectonic Craft Studios, and Ironheart Artisans. I prefer the look of minis on round/oval bases but love being able to rank them up properly.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but do we know how big games will be? They've described the 1,250 points boxes as an army, but have often mentioned 2,000 points in WarCom articles. I'm assuming it'll be 2K but wondered if I'd missed something.
2k is "suggested" as is a 6x4 table. Probably one of the things that set me off is the only format item they seem to have a stance on is no legacy armies. So we'll take that as a suggestion too ; )
Probably your best show to date! I would like to propose Fireforge models as an alternative to GWs mounted Yeoman (for those who like to buy good plastic models at a decent price).
A few great 3rd party 3D options Txarli Factory-Ogres; Avatars of War-Greenskins, Beastmen, others; Lost Kingdom Miniatures: Chaos Dwarves, Dwarves, Chaos, Lizardmen, Wood Elves, Bretonians, Tomb Kings, Dark Elves, other.
Just finished getting Square Based up on a big old unit of Chaos Marauders, got my orders in for the pre-order from a FLGs; now all that's left is waiting for the actual Jan paycheck to see if there's any TSN tourney tickets left ;)
abstract line of sight is a great change for sure, finally something that makes life a little bit simpler without taking away anything from the game. I was so disturbed to see the tuskgor chariot still has 3 (!!!) different attack profiles; 1 for the gor, 1 for the ungor and 1 for the tuskgors. Ridiculous overcomplication. I was so glad to learn the rider and monsters wound values were just added together and hoped this would be done to more units, but it seems not .. Also super happy to see a break from combat is mandatory when the winning size is twice the unit strength of the losing side; a great way too not make the game all about annoying chaff blocking everything at will
It’s pretty clear that there are some very serious internal issues within GW. It had to have been interdepartmental rivalry that said Old World couldn’t use certain AoS factions.
On the 32mm vs 30mm base discussion and Rob's comment of "get proper size movement tray" - what is the proper size of movement tray? Seeing many (even official GW trays) there is always the lip on the edge that adds... how much? 10-12mm to the footprint of the tray? So does that mean if I put 5x32mm models with 1mm tray lip width, I would still be same footprint as "proper size movement tray"?
@rob, also thinking of doing the slaves to darkness models for old world, how easy did you find it to put them onto square bases, anything to be concearned about in terms of any models from the new range not working base wise?. appreciate the info.
1) the community needs to step up here and show GW that we DO want those factions as playable, either through private tournaments or through outcry! 2) hopefully, if old world proves popular enough (which according to the great book of grudges gw has been surprised, for some reason, that it has been far more popular than they expected) then they will just add in official support for those factions later. (maybe in a 30k style 2nd edition)
Loving these shows gents. Could you put together a pinned list of other model providers for factions? Would love a list of providers I can use as well as GW.
Got my pre orders in and now im just waiting. My buddies are getting in, and one of them has already dug out and started working on his old Dwarfs. Bretonnia has always been my favorite faction since I got introduced to Warhammer Fantasy via Total War, and I'm super excited to finally be able to collect and play them.
I'm really, really confused at the "dead on arrival" videos and comments everywhere. The business model is EXACTLY like Horus Heresy so for Horus Heresy players, this is business as usual. Missing factions, model scarcity, overpriced resin nightmare, 3d printing brrring, etc.
I remember when Steve Jobs said that he didn't want to do the iPad mini cause it would cannibalize iPad sales... then Tim Cook said let just make money
Whoa Leonel was my regional manager when I used to work at GW around 20 years ago. Don't go to ssuaga much but I've been to X planet a few times. Good to hear he's still going strong. Also is "Mr. Reads from book" a certain grey haired canadian? He was my direct manager for a time. Ask him about his bellybutton ring
Wonderful show as always! As an old 6th (and 7th) edition WHFB gamer I'm so happy that the "step up" rule is gone. I hated it and the "horde rule" to my guts (plus 8th edition magic and full random charges). Back in the day I only played handful of 8th edition games and was done with it and went back to 6th edition. :)
The best old world content now and for the past year building up hype! So excited to play!
Thanks so so much

I had a great time getting caught up with the Old World through your podcasts this weekend.
Vals hype in the intro's always gets me in that Based mood.
So much fun, amazing listen. Rob are those Warriors of Chaos on the new suggested 30mm size bases? Trying to eyeball and I cannot tell.
Yeah warriors on 30 mm
The excitement I have whenever I open RUclips and see you have another video up, is immense
I wanted to shoutout SN Battlereports for their Old World batrep featuring High Elves and Beastmen! They do a lot of HH content so now they are scratching two of my itches.
I like rob's very cozy turtleneck. It gives me the impression that Rob is secretly a very cozy chinchilla
You're not alone. The Strength Hammer crew is still very excited!!!❤
BTW you two are curshing it with the show!
A fun idea, because counts-as armies are easier to get into comps, would be to run Skaven as orcs and goblins @ a GW event.
We're giving you free PDFs instead of charging £50 for some books."
GW, why are you threatening me with a good time?
Really excited, just rebased a bunch of Lothern Sea Guard and getting ready to paint it all up
I’m so gutted I could not get anything I wanted on the pre-order. For international customers not in one of the main regions (EU, US, GB, NZ and Oz) the stock was almost non existent and disappeared in moments. I wish we could do the pre-order where you have to wait, but you get an ETA to order fulfilment
The DICE are fucking insane. 50 god damn dollars for some D6's!!??!?!?!
At my little boys football match and didn't check my phone till 11.45 and by then my hopes of a bretonians set was long gone. For the first time I'm looking at 3d prints.
As a newbie, some of the words you say are quite evocative. Particularly the words "Hell" and "Cannon."
Thinking like a true wargamer.
What do we call an opportunity? A positive risk. ❤
Yes we do!!!
Love the hyped energy! Everyone else is so-so on this and I love seeing the positivity!
Can’t wait to see the chaos dwarf pdf, see what i can use out of my collection
All of it except a destroyer
@@SquareBasedOldWorld even the siege cannon where it’s a demon that fires cannon balls out of its arse?
@@SquareBasedOldWorldawesome! Now to just wait on base sizes… I have my guesses, but figure I wait for official stuff
@@Nuclear_SpiderWhat does he mean by everything? The 8th Ed lists, the AOS legacy list?
@@Komandieidk… didn’t want to press. I’m assuming only forgeworld stuff in 8th for everything? There is some other stuff like hobgobblins and blunderbusses on IG that had rules but no models, these I wonder about
I just bought a lizardmen AoS army. Putting it on square bases. It galls me I'm contributing to the AoS balance sheet, but as you said, it's the only way I an get an army *right now*. And the minis are lovely! Can't wait to play with my "renegade faction".
robs clipping models on stream haha
I'm damn happy they re-released old models that I have been wanting for a very long time. I wanted to get more of the Brettonians across the board. I hoped that I could get all the old ones that were discontinued in 2015. Now I can :)
The pure joy in both of your faces when Rob is talking about snakes being raised in a gospel church. Made me smile.
Hahaha I'm glad!
Been a great day of DIY and #squarebassed. Cheers guys.
I'm so excited about the return of the Old World. Thank you guys for all the videos! Can't wait for the next one.
Nearly all the Beastmen units are still available in AoS.
So we'll take that as a suggestion too ; )
Are....are those Chaos Warrior shields....upside down?
Probably your best show to date! I would like to propose Fireforge models as an alternative to GWs mounted Yeoman (for those who like to buy good plastic models at a decent price).
A few great 3rd party 3D options Txarli Factory-Ogres; Avatars of War-Greenskins, Beastmen, others; Lost Kingdom Miniatures: Chaos Dwarves, Dwarves, Chaos, Lizardmen, Wood Elves, Bretonians, Tomb Kings, Dark Elves, other.
Thanks for doing so much to get me excited for the old world. And just being beautiful humans, inside and out
Full kit Winter Rob has finally ascended. Looking toasty brother.
PS. thanks for another episode!
I'm having a blast building and painting Tomb Kings. Can't wait to get the books.
Excited for you
Just finished getting Square Based up on a big old unit of Chaos Marauders, got my orders in for the pre-order from a FLGs; now all that's left is waiting for the actual Jan paycheck to see if there's any TSN tourney tickets left ;)
abstract line of sight is a great change for sure, finally something that makes life a little bit simpler without taking away anything from the game.
Totally is
On the 32mm vs 30mm base discussion and Rob's comment of "get proper size movement tray" - what is the proper size of movement tray?
Nice, my state got a shout out. My man just wanted to go for a swim
It was a pool! Aquariums have lids!!
Loving these shows gents. Could you put together a pinned list of other model providers for factions? Would love a list of providers I can use as well as GW.
We will dk a massive post and blog about it
Got my pre orders in and now im just waiting.
Spooky! Literally writing down dogs of war unit profiles, and got to your bit at 1:16!
I'm in. This is the release we all waited for in that dark year that was 2015.
Let's goooo
My current plan is to head into GW store with an army that’s older than the staff :)
ez. can just use modern skaven
Funny I even have some GW store workers that are super exited to play against my Lizardmen at the store.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a 3rd party Casket of Souls? I don't know how to even begin searching.
Remember back when GW was on the we are a model not a rules company kick. Well now it seems we have reversed that.
Rob, I have an extra Van Horstmann dragon that is unbuilt but missing the rider if you build in metal.
Amazing conversation, guys. Really digging Val’s positivity combined with pragmatism as well
