Loved this!! You hit Knopfler and Allman Bros so well. Not to mention it was an exceedingly well explained video. So well done, and thank you very much.
Nice video, man. Thanks. I was looking for somebody to cut through the confusion of this pedal and give me what usable stuff it does best and you did just that. I now know what I’ll be doing this afternoon.
I really enjoyed this video. I've had an H9 for about a year now, and haven't really spent the time with it that I need to. This will give me the push to get back at it - it's a great unit.
Thanks man! Def worth a re-look. They are discontinuing the core unit and stopping the development of new algorithms, potentially developing announcing a new unit next year. But for now, spend some time with it! The diatonic harmonizer is special...
@@JayRutherford1 If you could also share how you created your backing tracks or just mentioned what you used that will be cool in the next video. I'm a fan of your music creation, ill be looking forward in your next reviews. Keep playing!
All the sounds and especially the distortion algorithms sounds great going straight into the amp. I have 2 and a Moroningstar HC8. I am able use them to switch from guitar to bass. I use a core for my distortion tones, I have a fuz that I love for bass and a distortion I love for guitar. The second H9 max adds anything I want.
Happy Easter and thank you for sharing your experiences with the H9. On which algorithms do you prefer overdrive before the H9 and on which ones do you overdrive after the H9 in your signal chain?
To be honest, I only use the H9 on my board AFTER my overdrives. It is completely possible to set up certain effects pre and post overdrive tho. I would imagine phase/vibe/flange/choruses before the overdrive section have a certain charm, but I would def use the H9 for verb and delay after the drives
@@JayRutherford1 Yesterday I have played with the PitchFuzz algorithm. Really nice presets there as a starting point. I have used a fuzz and an overdrive pedal post the H9. While I was using my fuzz pedal with the H9 (fuzz pedal was post H9) I turned the digital H9 fuzz level completely off in the used PitchFuzz presets, otherwise there were no good results with both my analog and the modeled H9 fuzz distortion on at the same time (for my ears at least!). Got some really nice tones out of it.
Did they change the name of the second setting you discuss, the Tricerachorus "Mac O"? I do not see this one in my list of settings within Tricerachorus.
There are still things the H9 can do that the others can’t. I use one in conjunction with a Helix all the time. In particular the harmonizers and choruses!
Yeah, I’ve found that if you have the mix of the diatonic harmony too loud it gets muddy in the mix with added overdrive and delay. You could technically setup the delay IN the diatonic preset but I like having my delays separate (I use a timeline), and the timeline is after my H9 so I can tap delay tempos and use a volume pedal for delay mix level. So essentially the H9 is just pumping out a subtle harmony and the overdrives and delays are doing what they normally do
I don't know why anyone would knock an H9. If I were going to purchase one studio FX box, it would be the one. You really can't beat the sheer amount of FX you get in it. I sold my Timefactor, Modfactor, and Pitchfactor and bought an H9 instead. I kept the Space, though, so I could use the H9 for things other than reverb. Great pedal with studio quality sounds.
They promote this pedal as super universal pedal that have all the Eventide pedals inside but in fact it has only 20-25% of their algorythms inside, all of the rest you have to buy additionally or buy much more expensive H9 Max. Not a great deal if we count that all of these super algorythms are in one pedal. You need to buy two or more pedals if you want to use 2-3 presets at the same time. Plus totally unusable way to switch presets live.
For sure. One can get stand alone units for better individual sounds. Nice to have a Swiss Army knife pedal for certain boards/situations/in addition to yada yada
Yeah the classic h910 is the best thing they’ve ever done, I think. Black Hole is cool if you’re doing movie soundtrack stuff, or stripped down arrangements, but most algorithms are too extreme to fit into a mix. HENCE, this video :-)
thanks, this is really helpful, just upgraded to H9 Max and I love it, but there is a lot to dive into. All these sounds are great!
Happy 2024!! I find this helpful.. Thanks
Just stumbled into your videos; wonderful! Great plaCreative, articulate, I see RUclips success coming fast!
Hey thanks a lot! Happy New Years, happy playing
pro trick : watch series at kaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Kalel Jon definitely, have been watching on KaldroStream for since november myself :)

Appreciate the kind words! Happy New Years!
Was totally loving the Dire Straights vibe
Very cool Jay :). Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment Tony!
Some beautiful playing there 👍
Thank you :-)

You’re welcome. Thanks for the kind words :-)
I enjoyed this and found two new tones I like thanks to you. The one is spot on Knopfler- So far away.
Sweet! Thanks for watching
Great sounds! The Tone Master is working nicely too!
Thanks! Continually impressed with the TM. Wondering what Eventide will come up with next as well...
VERY NICE!
Hey Jay, I paid a lot of attention on your intro performance in this video. Great job on that, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the H9 too.
I love my H9! It can cover a lot of bases... thanks for checking the video out!

You should check out my band Los Colognes! Our latest record “The Wave” is the inspiration for the demo tunes I’m using in these videos.

Sounds dope! You got all the bas(s)es covered! I have 2 H9’s as well
Hi Jay, do you know how to get the backing track ? It´s so great - Thanks from Germany - Marko
New subscriber here , would you mind sharing the setting for the sound of the h910 you used with your band ??
Can you mix more the one effect?

Sounds awesome
This looks like such a cool pedal to just loop organ sounds and play over it. (:
The best part about an H9 is the fact that it’s such a cool songwriting tool. The presets lend themselves to creativity and spontaneity.
Did they change the name of the second setting you discuss, the Tricerachorus "Mac O"? I do not see this one in my list of settings within Tricerachorus.
I custom named the preset Mac D because Mac Demarco uses a lot of vibrato. It’s essentially a vibrato effect
Awsome buddy i have 2 h9’s
Me too, I started using my second one as a vocal effects pedal for live shows :-)
Itz mosdef one the coolest pedal out there, ,dude. 😀
It’s an 7 years old hardware… did they do any hardware update or it is running a very old DSP?
It’s old. Point of this video was that despite its age it’s still super versatile.
is it still worth to buy it in 2022 ? if its better to buy AXE FX III or Eventide H9?
There are still things the H9 can do that the others can’t. I use one in conjunction with a Helix all the time. In particular the harmonizers and choruses!
how can you combine algorithms?
Some algorithms have multiple variables - ModEchoVerb, for example has modulation delay and reverb. In general tho, you can’t combine them.
@@JayRutherford1 is there a website where i can read all about all algorithms? i want to use the h9 in dj sets
Between google and RUclips I’m sure you can find a comprehensive list! I’d google the Eventide website
Did you route the delay after the h9 with Diatonic demo?
Yeah, I’ve found that if you have the mix of the diatonic harmony too loud it gets muddy in the mix with added overdrive and delay. Agreed. I think the interface and price scares people off, but a used MAX is a good toy for life

It's a studio tool. The h9max is so awesome
If it were $200 maybe...price per sound used is hardly there. I agree the 910 949 is the only golden algorithm and the core has it at $399
