There are so many things "right" with Pete's playing -- it's truly astounding. It's never overdone; it's always just what it needs to be when it needs to be. Thanks Pete!
Massive sound, just wow on the senses! On another note, I can't believe you were making videos like this almost a decade ago. You really deserve much more algorithm impact.
Wow, Pete, just wow. What blew me away was how articulate you are. Not only with words (not a single word wasted) but your musicality is awesome! I subscribed to your channel half-way through this video and I'll check out your other vids after I hit the "post" button. Btw, I own the H9 and just maxed it out two days ago so you can imagine how interested I am in your tutorials. Thank you!
Insane stuff Mr. Thorn. I am literally YEARS late to the H9 pedal? Haha, I guess I'm saving up all of my allowance for this now. I kind of want two. BTW, that first guitar is quite possibly the coolest T style guitar I have ever seen. Rock on man!
Thanks so much for this wonderful review! I think I've just met the pedal of my dreams. Seriously, it seems to have exactly what I'm looking for at the moment. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!
Hey Pete, once again, top class demo. to be honest i mostly watch your videos for the incredible music and guitar riff ideas that you come up with and your way of utilising the effects, certainly one of the best open all rounder guitarist that does many styles exceptionally well. many thanks for sharing Pete and i hope to see you live in france in the near future. Talaat
Pete Thorn shame i missed it mate i'll definitely keep an eye on the your site for next time, in fact northern france, Belgium, Holland and i'll pushed all the way to germany to see you play live.
Hi Pete, aprendo mucho acerca del tema de los pedales gracias a tus videos, me inspiran mucho a ser mejor cada vez que los veo, greetings from Costa Rica!!!!
Pete, just wanted to say thank you so much for the quality videos. It's awesome that you take the time to share your knowledge. I've become a better player and overall musician just following your channel. THANK YOU!!! PS: You have the best write ups for Premiere Guitar!!!
Hi Pete, great demo, great tones - as usual!!! Could you post the settings of the "ultra tap" algorhythm you used between 5:18 and 5:31? All the best! Frank
Whenever I look for videos on new gear, seeing "by Pete Thorn" in the results list makes me let out a firm "YES!!!!" then I click and get schooled. Thanks Pete.
6:20 is one of the most beautiful "fragments" of music I've ever heard ! Why didn't / don't you develop it into a full length tune ? Or have you ? .... I've listened to almost all of your music on youtube, maybe I missed it ? Maybe I will (try to) (cover it) and do so :) At least I'm going to try to learn it.
I could listen to that device through your gear for hours. In fact, a couple hours of your rocking out on your material would kick ass Pete. Dannnng you can play.
Great tutorial! I love the first effect. Could def hear a tele with a b-bender swamping out fogerty! The shimmer setting reminds me of a first generation quadraverb setting I used to love back in the eighties you may remember lol! Sold, subscribed, peace!
I have a question (hope it's not that stupid). Is it possible to change in real time with my foot a preset on the H-9? I mean, is it a pedal that can be anything but once you programmed it it remains that thing or can it work as a little multi-fx too? For instance, with my band, made except for the dry distortion tone, I only use ONE delay sound and ONE reverb sound... A single H9 would be enough for me to have both this sounds on stage? Thanks to who will anser :) Cheers!!!!
Thanks very much Pete!!! I'll definitely look more into it, I'm starting touring with my band, and in these situations I can say that less is more :) Thanks again! Cheers!!!!
Maybe you already did a video about this, but could you do one where you explain your process to record these really cool backing tracks you rock on? Keep up the good work!
What's the noise floor like in front of the amp? I've had a few of the factor pedals and the hiss was simply unacceptable for a product marketed as a pedal. I always concluded these were designed to run at line level. It's what has kept me away from the H9, but damn that sounds killer, Thorn effect aside! :-)
Great demo and playing! Thanks a lot :) The video is about three years old now, would you prefer the H9 or the Strymon Big Sky, regarding their reverbs? Thanks again!!!
BRILLIANT!!!, as usual Pete. Just couple of questions: 1) having two H9 with plenty of delay capabilities, what does the Strymon Delay add to the previous Eventide delay algorithms? 2) how do you get the looping of the rythm guitar to play over the solo parts -sound on sound? Thank you so much. Best
I don't understand one thing, and this might be a silly question, but does the pedal have banks so you can dial trough the various presets, how many presets can you upload to this thing?
heliobluesrock In the 1st example, you hear an algorithm that is spring verb AND tremolo in one. There's also an algorithm called modechoverb that is a mod (chorus or flange), a delay, and a verb, in one. there might be more, I'm not sure. Those two are cool though! It's not really a "bunch of fx at once" box though, it's a one at a time but HIGH QUALITY one at a time kind of box. that's why it sounds so damn good.
Hi Pete! Can't find Tremspring in my presets ANYWHERE. I see from your vid that it's in the SPACE section, but after scouring it, no luck. A) Where is it (maybe it's one I have to buy and haven't bought yet?), or B) is there a search feature on the H9 to help find algorithms when you know the name but not sure where it would be classified/stored? I have a standard H9 (not Max) and there seem to be ZILLIONS of categories.. can't imagine how many will be in there once I get it 'maxed out'. Thanks and oh... what's the latest on your next solo CD?! Please please!! We need more Monster Movie, Paid By The Note, and Big Mistake(s)!!! Tasty Stuff!!
A friend of mine has one and indeed, they are quite amazing. Hard to make a demo of something that even after an hour just barely scratches the surface. Nonetheless, great demo as always Pete. And to follow up: I did get the Disnortion last month. I love it. Ive yet to run out of cool new tones. Thanks for the demo on that one as well.
Sounds great, really good, but then again, I have yet to hear you make anything sound less than fantastic ;-) does it have rotary/leslie tone options/setting
Hey Pete tech question for you: Can you please share how you tracked the H9? Did you mic a left and a right cab for stereo? Or track the dry guitar tone mono through one cab, and then run the H9 to a stereo aux track? Curious how you approach recording a stereo pedal like this....Thanks in advance....and for all your great vids.
I'm using 2 PT 100 heads, with the H9 in stereo. I use the preamp of one head then fx send out to H9, stereo out to 2 PT 100 fx returns. Speaker out of each head to a load box, into my interface.... pull up a Mellowmuse IR1A plug in (IR host) in logic on the channel I'm tracking to, and add a stereo speaker sim (IR). I'm using an Ownhammer IR. I could of course just go speaker out of both heads out to 2 cabs and mic both cabs. But this sounds great and it's easier :)
Pete Thorn Thanks for sharing. Makes sense. I need a load box!! I track W/D/W a lot. I usually run a bus from my miked cab track to studio rack fx set to 100% wet then out of the fx to a stereo track. (But have yet to do that with stereo pedals.) I may try your method, thanks again man.
Pete, Wow! great playing and such great ideas. Thank you so much for these demos. I own the H9 and SPACE. Incredible tools.BTW what are some albums you've played on I'd like to hear some more. Max Ratliff Nashville, TN
my album is "Guitar Nerd", it's on Itunes etc, also played on "As I Am' by Alicia Keys, Daniel Powter's 2nd album, Forty Foot Echo (band I was in 10 years ago", Ben Jelen's album, etc
Anyone struggling with using these in the loop of your amp? I have a Diezel D Moll and i have to use the Serial/Series loop as thats where my ISP Decimator works the best. The Eventide keeps clipping when i use a distorted sound (channel 2or3), i have reduced the input gain on the pedal right down. Am i right in thinking the Channel Volume will act as my effects send signal? This may be what is causing it to clip. Any help would be appreciated.
Pete, first of all congratulations for the good taste in compositions and guitar sounds.I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Please, tell me how you record the guitars in the video, if the amp is miked, through a simulator, which you use for these videos.Thanx, sounds and all of good.Thanks.
If you bought the H9 Core and created all of your patches, would you theoretically never need to "buy" a preset? It seems a bit much to charge for more effects on a pedal that's already pricey.
You don't buy presets- you buy algorithms. So, if you just needed a tremolo and a reverb (maybe you don't need a delay or phaser or whatever), you could buy H9 core and just get a trem and verb algorithm.
There's really no point- you are hearing Space, and Timefactor, algorithms in this video! The H9 is like having a Space AND a Time Factor. Same sounds.
Hey Pete, just wanted to check if u got both H9 or one is H9 Core. Reason is I already have an H9 n I want one more so would buying the H9 Core enable me to transfer all my purchases from the original H9 to the Core? Thx guy always enjoy ur work!
Thanks Pete for the awesome demonstration of the musicality of H9. I didn't catch which version you were using, if it was the harmonizer or the max? I really want to get one obviously the core it's my budget for free just doesn't have enough of what i really want, By the time I pay for the app upgrades I have one money than just buying a full blown Max. I found some pretty good deals on used H9 harmonizers on reverb, just wondering if that's going to be a pretty well loaded pedal? It's hard to believe that every possible algorithm is going to be useful to me… What do you think Bro I super value your opinion Way to go continuing to give us some super great playing demonstrating year in a way that really makes sense to players Rod
Anyone with this pedal... how viable is this idea I have? I have a PRS baritone and am thinking of using the pitch shift feature in the H9 to drop it from low B to low E (standard bass) so I can use the PRS as a regular bass when I want. Would the sound quality be good enough most non-pro uses? I.e., demos, song writing, jamming.
awesome stuff Pete :D one question though; What's up with the blue LED on the black strat you play at the end of the video? some active electronics inside the guitar or something?
Nice Job Pete, great tones and playing and song ideas (as usual)!! What load box are you using? I have wanted to try recording like this, but have not trusted using something like a load box, but if you trust one to your Suhrs then I want to try it.
Hi, I use a Torpedo Live from Two Notes, but I also use a new one that is not out yet, a prototype that someone made for me. Ask me in a few months- it should be available then! :) The Two Notes is great too
I love the song idea you did with the Flutterwow sound. Can't wait for your next CD. Does the H-9 allow for android programming or just iOS? Thanks and keep up the great vids.
What's the point of having multiple stomp boxes in one if the H9 can only use one effect at a time? I guess I got to buy two to four H9's as well. Not happening. Guitar Rig will have to do for now.
It is like beluga caviar effects, not fast food effects. They take a lot of power. Want all in 1, there's lots of boxes that do that, and I can assure you that most (other than maybe the AxeFX) will be not as good as the FX in the H9. There are a few algorithms that do more than 1 effect at a time- there's one that does trem and spring verb for example, and one that does a simple echo, verb, and mod. Most are 1 at a time.
Because I like to use reverb on one and pitch shift on the other one sometimes at the same time. They have some multi FX algorithms, but really it’s kind of one effect at a time for the most part
no you PROGRAM and name/store/organize using your iphone. Try it and you'll see why- cause it's simple and easy (way easier than paging through menus on a effect device, finding letters to name presets by turning knobs/cursors etc
Eric sin sinner To me, it depends on how you use it. If you have no other time based effects, then one is not enough. How ever, if you use it like me (my effects chain goes: Eventide H9 > Strymon El Cap > Caroline Meteore) than one is enough because I have the delay + verb for additional layering.
There are so many things "right" with Pete's playing -- it's truly astounding. It's never overdone; it's always just what it needs to be when it needs to be. Thanks Pete!
God, that perfect tone, Pete. You are amazing. That tape delay sounds so good in your hands. Such resonance and power.
Pete is an ocean. An ocean of ideas, every demo piece is record worthy
Great tone! Most of it comes from your fingers and musical ideas though :) Could you perhaps demo a Pete Thorn-izer someday?
:)
Perceptive comment by Kaurgarshnek - applies to all effects usage as well
Wow to the flutterwow! Incredible sound.
Pete you are a great musician and I appreciate your videos and knowledge of equipment and reviews. Thanks for your hard work!
I have a Time factor Delay from a couple years back and it is a rock solid great pedal. Always impressed by your playing Pete, I love your phrasing.
Stunning demo, you flat out sound amazing !!
Thanks dude!
Thanks so much for this wonderful review! I think I've just met the pedal of my dreams. Seriously, it seems to have exactly what I'm looking for at the moment. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!
Pete just Pete.... Too much awesomeness. Love your musical ideas to demo the pedals. Keep inspiring man.
I almost cried when it was over. Please do another H9 demo!!! Been waiting for this!
Thanks a lot!
🙄p-lease, he does not even mention if you plug this direct to an amp or loopback via the board...

I basically lived in France, last year, for 4 months! :)
Pete Thorn shame i missed it mate i'll definitely keep an eye on the your site for next time, in fact northern france, Belgium, Holland and i'll pushed all the way to germany to see you play live.
Bought it today and i`ve played several Hours ...
Its INSPIRING and Easy to use
5:00 min Cool song
Hello Pete i wasn’t very clear on the effect on minute 5:02. Can i download that effect ?
Thanks Pete! Amazing sounds and terrific playing! 😎

Pete Thorn is awesome. great sound.

Any chance of you posting the backing track ?
The intro piece at the beginning of the video is also great. Very "mellow / soothing"
3:30 - Better than a morning coffee !
5:33 Espresso coffee !
I could listen to that device through your gear for hours. In fact, a couple hours of your rocking out on your material would kick ass Pete. Dannnng you can play.
Great Demo Pete. Your skill and knowledge is truly inspiring!! Keep up the great work. :)
+Stuart Narduzzo thanks!
Pete, do you run the H9's in the amp fx loop or in front?
Great tutorial! I love the first effect. Could def hear a tele with a b-bender swamping out fogerty! The shimmer setting reminds me of a first generation quadraverb setting I used to love back in the eighties you may remember lol! Sold, subscribed, peace!
In the flutterwow preset example i can hear Billy Idol singing :) what a great pedal! you rock Pete !!
Thanks Diego! a that riff is super 80's, ha!
thank you for your demostration it sounds amazing!!
+Alexis Alescio thanks!
A M A Z I N G great job Pete.
thanks!
The sound of your demos, are amazing Pete, I want to buy a H9, ha! Pete in the H9 I have to buy the presets?
Great demo! I'm curious about that blue led on the strat you used during the last sound clip. Can you tell me more about it?
I have a question (hope it's not that stupid).
Is it possible to change in real time with my foot a preset on the H-9?
I mean, is it a pedal that can be anything but once you programmed it it remains that thing or can it work as a little multi-fx too?

Yes Simone- it's possible to step through presets on the H9
Thanks very much Pete!!! I'll definitely look more into it, I'm starting touring with my band, and in these situations I can say that less is more :)
Thanks again!
Cheers!!!!
Maybe you already did a video about this, but could you do one where you explain your process to record these really cool backing tracks you rock on? Keep up the good work!
Would love to see it side by side to the mimiq pedal to see how close it can get to the same effect
Hey Pete, your tone are pretty good. Please what is the back guitar with a blue led? thank you.
Who knows? What brand of tele guitar in the beginning of the VDO ?
Trussart, I believe :)
Bothand Nether Thank you:)
Really great effect
What's the noise floor like in front of the amp? I've had a few of the factor pedals and the hiss was simply unacceptable for a product marketed as a pedal. I always concluded these were designed to run at line level. It's what has kept me away from the H9, but damn that sounds killer, Thorn effect aside! :-)
Dude... Great review and playing... Thank you...
Great demo. I think I would like to add this to my arsenal. Plus I'm a mobile app dev so its cool you can change up your settings with IOS.
Is that a Palir? Shore looks like one!!
Great demo/review Mr. Thorn! What kind of pick ups do you have on that beautiful Tele?
Hello Pete, do you know if actually H9 have Vibe Effect. I looking for a Vibe FX for Gilmour songs and the best that I found was MXR Phase 90. Thanks.
Great demo and playing! Thanks a lot :) The video is about three years old now, would you prefer the H9 or the Strymon Big Sky, regarding their reverbs? Thanks again!!!
What is that last strat? The one with many knobs and a led
Best
Fantastic Demo. I want. Your a great player dude.
I don't understand one thing, and this might be a silly question, but does the pedal have banks so you can dial trough the various presets, how many presets can you upload to this thing?
You can make as many preset lists as you want. A preset list consists of 99 presets and you can load one preset list at any given time onto the H9.
xchump But, can we load more than one effect at the same time in one preset?
heliobluesrock In the 1st example, you hear an algorithm that is spring verb AND tremolo in one. There's also an algorithm called modechoverb that is a mod (chorus or flange), a delay, and a verb, in one. there might be more, I'm not sure. Those two are cool though! Thank you, Pete Thorn!
Hey Pete
So how where you running the guitar signal, guitar in and out to 2 amps, effects loop and running right of pedal into another amp? thanks
Does the H9 have bluetooth in it?
Thanks and oh... what's the latest on your next solo CD?! Please please!! We need more Monster Movie, Paid By The Note, and Big Mistake(s)!!! Tasty Stuff!!
A friend of mine has one and indeed, they are quite amazing. Hard to make a demo of something that even after an hour just barely scratches the surface. Nonetheless, great demo as always Pete. And to follow up: I did get the Disnortion last month. I love it. Ive yet to run out of cool new tones. Thanks for the demo on that one as well.
Yes, so many tones!!!!
Thanks Pete I got an H9 awhile back and you really help me see it's potential...and yes I'd like to here those tunes in their entirety!!
Rod
Awesome demo! Are you using the first H9 to split the signal? How's the stereo image?
Is there a nylon setting for this pedal?
Sounds great, really good, but then again, I have yet to hear you make anything sound less than fantastic ;-) does it have rotary/leslie tone options/setting
Great review as usual Pete. Do you think the H9 could be a good replacement for my three "regular" pedals, a chorus, reverb and delay?

Pete Thorn Your song Guitar Nerd rocks sooo hard...
Anyone struggling with using these in the loop of your amp? I have a Diezel D Moll and i have to use the Serial/Series loop as thats where my ISP Decimator works the best. Thanks man!
anyone know what les paul brand is played short time

There's really no point- you are hearing Space, and Timefactor, algorithms in this video! The H9 is like having a Space AND a Time Factor. Same sounds.
Pete Thorn You'r right...And anyway eventually I decided to buy the H9
Freakin' killer demo!! I want an H9!
OK! Which Joyo pedal is this one!?
😆
🍻
What make of guitar is that?
Pete, what pedal switcher are you using with this pedalboard?
Hey Pete, just wanted to check if u got both H9 or one is H9 Core. Reason is I already have an H9 n I want one more so would buying the H9 Core enable me to transfer all my purchases from the original H9 to the Core?
Thx guy always enjoy ur work!
2 H9's, the regular ones
Amazing!
Pete you play so nice sometimes I forget to analyze the products and get lost your tone +feel ! G8 job bra!
thanks Donny!
Hey Pete: For the octave/fuzz sound, which Pitchfactor effect did you use on the H9? Is the fuzz coming from your 69/another fuzz pedal?
Why do you have two of them? Great pedal!
You can only use one algorithm at a time
How do you record the effects?
Are they direct or just using a mic?
Thanks Pete for the awesome demonstration of the musicality of H9. I didn't catch which version you were using, if it was the harmonizer or the max? I really want to get one obviously the core it's my budget for free just doesn't have enough of what i really want, By the time I pay for the app upgrades I have one money than just buying a full blown Max. Fn awesome playing fella!
Anyone with this pedal... how viable is this idea I have? Would the sound quality be good enough most non-pro uses? I.e., demos, song writing, jamming.
This unit is DAMM Cool and i Understand why Pete Thorn has two of em ..
awesome stuff Pete :D one question though;
What's up with the blue LED on the black strat you play at the end of the video? some active electronics inside the guitar or something?
It's a Roland strat, a G5- it has modeling stuff in it. I used it on baritone setting in the clip.
I did not know Roland build guitars, cool :D
Nice Job Pete, great tones and playing and song ideas (as usual)!! What load box are you using? I have wanted to try recording like this, but have not trusted using something like a load box, but if you trust one to your Suhrs then I want to try it.
Hi, I use a Torpedo Live from Two Notes, but I also use a new one that is not out yet, a prototype that someone made for me. Ask me in a few months- it should be available then! :) The Two Notes is great too
I need oone, but they're so expensive. Awesome channel Pete. I enjoy your videos.
Love that Flutterwow preset.
I love the song idea you did with the Flutterwow sound. Can't wait for your next CD.
Does the H-9 allow for android programming or just iOS? Thanks and keep up the great vids.
hey pete what effect is eddie van halen using on the 1984 album 1984 girl gone bad?
H949 I think? Eventide harmonizer! Set to pitch shift a bit
Remind me to beg you to produce my album someday if I ever become super rich. I will start buying your albums - I owe you that much.
Hey Pete love this video! How are you powering both H9's? Thanks!
+w1wang G-lab supplies!
Oh man .. That FlutterWow is incredibly cool sounding. I'd pay to just have that effect by itself.
agreed, it's super cool
Why would you want 2 H9 pedals on your board if they're a multi FX pedal?
Because I like to use reverb on one and pitch shift on the other one sometimes at the same time. They have some multi FX algorithms, but really it’s kind of one effect at a time for the most part
Do you have two H9's so one is timebased and the other is pitch/mod?
yes, basically that's how i use them
Pete Thorn Hey dude how do you control presets/switch sounds on the H9(s) during a live set? are you using a midi controller?
doubts ... Strymon mobius or eventide H9?
I pick.. both! :)
Why would i want to change presets thru my phone?
no you PROGRAM and name/store/organize using your iphone. Try it and you'll see why- cause it's simple and easy (way easier than paging through menus on a effect device, finding letters to name presets by turning knobs/cursors etc
Got it, thx!
Is one H9 enough?
Eric sin sinner To me, it depends on how you use it. If you have no other time based effects, then one is not enough. How ever, if you use it like me (my effects chain goes: Eventide H9 > Strymon El Cap > Caroline Meteore) than one is enough because I have the delay + verb for additional layering.
what guitar is that? It's gorgeous
Looks like a James Trussart to me, probably made out of copper.
yes it's a Trussart
Awesome video! that tape flange sounded just like Stone Temple Pilots! must get this pedal
I just got one also I love it :)
