    I’ve had great luck with theses saws and I mix my own at 40.1 😊
    Some people just can’t handle equipment of any kind
    That’s a fact and they don’t service anything they have

    Hey bud, I just wanted to stop and say thanks for posting this up. Your starting method put me over the top. I have been learning about 2 cycle engines with this poulan pro chainsaw over the last year. After just about replacing and rebuilding everything(down to the piston, crank and cylinder) I was having issues with it starting. Your video combined with countless others has me overly confident now to be able rebuild just about any chainsaw, let alone this one. As I stated, I had been working on it over the last year. This saw was my dad's and after he checked out; I vowed to get it working again. I was just about to say to hell with it and go get a Stihl: when I happened across your video. I thought I had seen all of the poulan 4218 chainsaw videos on youtube. Your starting method has put me over the top. It is now starting and I have it just about tuned right. Gonna go get in the woods and get a few cords cut for winter. You saved me about $500 bucks.
    Thanks a lot bud!
    -D

    Great video, very informative especially for a new chainsaw owner! Only thing i have a difference of opinion on is chain tension. Run it just tight enough for the chain to hold itself against the bottom of the bar. When you are done cutting slack the chain slightly for storage. Running a chain too tight is the main reason PTO side crankshaft bearings fail. That’s why I always suggest loosening chain slightly for storage. If chain was tensioned while hot, when it cools off it can get real tight and put excess stress on crankshaft bearing. Thanks for the great video!!

    • @AskDaddyjoe
      @AskDaddyjoe  3 года назад +1

      Hello and Thank you . You raise a good point on the expansion of the chain and bar from the heat generated during operation and contracting as the saw cools I can see how that would stress the bearing , Thanks For Sharing and Thanks for Watching .

    This video is by far the best explanation on how to start run and cut I've seen on RUclips. I also own a Poulan pro 42/18 it's the newer saw. I'm not new to chainsaw by any means but I really appreciate you doing this video. I never use ethanol fuel in any of my equipment. I run 40:1 True-fuel in my equipment and I have never had any issues. I'm definitely subbing your channel.

    1 other thing, after a day or so of cutting, service the saw by removing the recoil housing & blowing debris out of the cooling system. After that check the air filter, clean it with Dawn, rinse, let it air dry. Good idea to check any fasteners for looseness too.

    I’ve had 2 poulan saws I had probably 10-12yrs of hard use 1 after about 10 yrs of using it I gave it to a friend because I won the other at work they were great saws my last 1 finally quit after 12 yrs of hard use because the ethanol in the pump gas ruined it (what a shop said anyway) I’ve got a stihl saw now and wished I had my poulan back lol another words try to run ethanol gas in it and you will have a good saw

    I wore out a Husky 346XP and replaced with a Poulan 4218. Don't miss the Husky .I did adjust the carburetor, set max rpm to 12,000 and the little Poulan cuts like a house afire! Non ethanol premium gas only for me. A real bargain.

    Man I've had issues starting my poulan pro pr4218. I thought about one of the issues making it hard to start would be if it was flooded. I tried to start it and checked if it was in fact getting flooded, well it was. I guess this is the reason you said not to use the primer bulb and too much choke. :P Well.. you were completely right. hahaha.

    If you don't maintain a Stihl or a Husqvarna, they won't cut or last, as long you maintain any type of equipment they last and use it as intended for years to come. I have two Poulan Pro's and a Stihl saw, and they all work fine.

    • @AskDaddyjoe
      @AskDaddyjoe  3 года назад +1

    There's 128 oz in a gal. Whatever ratio you intend to use take that # divide it into 128, voila! As far as I'm concerned, 42CC is too small to power an 18" bar. I like power over over length. Poulan has always overbarred their small saws & used a chain with half the cutters. When that chain wears out, you'll usually buy a chain with a full complement of cutters & it'll pull the guts out of the saw. Drop that bar to a 16" with a full complement chain you'll like it a lot better.

    • @AskDaddyjoe
