I am from a part of South India where there is almost no Shia Islam. I usually go to a Salafi Mosque where they normally despise and mention Shia Islam in a very poor manner. Once during Friday Sermon, it was mentioned Shia Islam was created as part of a Jewish conspiracy. (Hatred against all jews propagated is another matter to be discussed). I was taken back by the statement. I did my research and found differences exist (in rituals and practices few I may not agree with), but there is nothing of that sort it being a conspiracy. The fact that the Ahl al-Bayt - Hassan, Hussian and their families were brutally murdered by the forefathers of Salafi-Wahabis is always hidden on purpose by the wahhabi propaganda. Also found the Salafi-Wahhabism is funded by Saudi money in India which propagates hatred against other sects of Islam which itself is un-islamic.

What I don't understand about Shiism is that if it is legit then we should have a steady stream of writings dating back to Ali and back and forth dialogue between Sunni and Shia perspectives. But by this teacher's own admission, this sort of dialogue doesn't occur till the 4th century of Islam. It looks to me that the Ummayads introduced Muhammad to provide context for the inscrutable Quran. Then the Abbasids elevated Ali and wrote hadith about him to discredit the Umayyads. Next, the Fatimids elevated Ali even further to discredit the Abbasids and wrote their own hadith. No earlier Shia dialogue because they didn't even exist till the 4th century of Islam, after al Bukhari and all the Sunni hadith were composed.

@@peterhwang1860 You are right you don't understand.
The Shia of Ali were known during the time of the Prophet. There are plenty of hadith even in sunni sources.
I don't think any fair academic will deny this.
Even sunni scholarship don't deny there was dispute over leadership.
Who forbids the writing of hadith?
You can't have it both ways whendunni Khalifah forbid writing of hadith when it would have been best time record but then say oh but there not much written sources earlier on. They forbid because they knew it would not look favourably on them taking power.
Everyone understand those who run media control the narrative of the status quo.
So remember who was in power they are hardly going to allow another narrative openly which goes against them ruling.
What you don't seem to understand of Shia view is it doesn't matter if divine leadership hold political power or not.
There doesn't need to be any debates especially when you would be persecuted for it.
None of your argument makes sense because it is built on false premise that society then was like now. That there was freedom to debate.

Used sympathy for what happened at Karbala to Prophet family to gather support for false pretence of getting justice but then laid their own stake to leadership.
They couldn't promote Ali right as it would show they were wrong to take power. If you knew about Islamic history you would know of the discussions of Abbasid Khalifahs disputing the right of Ali against the Imams of the Shia.
One famous one I think was Ma'moon asked Imam Redha what is evidence of Imam Ali Khalifat he said sura Mubahila.

Thanks to let the Quran speak for doing this, as a sunni Muslim I’ve seen Sunnis never allow dialogue between themselves and Shias and often thought that was absolutely wrong to do as we aren’t allowing themselves to explain or engage in conversation. We are assuming and forming opinions without knowing, unlike what our religion teaches. I was fortunate enough to come from a family that didn’t shun Shias and were pretty open to them so I knew to respect them from a young age. Unfortunately not many can say the same.

Yes Ali even protested on why he wasn't recognized as the first successor of Prophet Muhammad(saw) but when he heard and understood the situation, that it would divide the Ummah, he then gave way and waited for his turn. And time proved that this division thing really happened when his turn came. Muslims even slaughtered each other during his reign as a khalifa.
So his Muslim brothers that time, Abu bakr, Umar, Uthman and others were right.
The point is, Shia today should also show respect like how Ali showed respect this decision. How can you claim to love Ali if you don't even respect his decision? Peace and Salam.

Syed Ali Imran mentioned tensions started in the 17th century. In India, Shias were brutally persecuted by Sunni forces in the 16th century (especially Kashmir) and it continued for hundreds of years. But it starts much earlier, in the 14th century, and this is within India. Shia refugees were coming into India from outside too starting before. Persecution of Shias was rife in the Middle East and Afghanistan. I don't know why Syed sets this topic so late in history.

This was a great introductory video and provided space for the voice of Shi'ism in the space of dialogue.
It was slightly unfortunate however that the discussion on Shi'ism here fell into the same pitfall as conversations about "Islam" (usually meaning "Sunni" Islam) as it was only used to refer to the largest branch of Shi'ism, namely "Twelver" or "Ithna'ashari" Shi'ism and entirely omitted mention of the 2nd and 3rd largest Shi'i communities, namely the Ismaili and Zaydi Shia.
Even if the perspective and conversation remained as it was, it would have been better to mention the diversity in Shi'ism and then more accurate to highlight that this video would be from the Twelver Shi'i perspective.
A good video nonetheless that will help to build bridges.

There is no doubt that Imam Ali (asws) learned the complete sunnah from his master, Muhammad Rasoul Allah (SAWW).

Let’s not divide ourselves. At the time of Mohammed (pbuh) there was no Shia or Sunni. Let’s not give other people chance to use this against us.

It is not a matter of Dividing Muslims my dear, It is about getting the Muslims in the right path to Allah
When prying we all ask Allah to guide us to the Straight path
Well Between any two given points one can only draw ONE LINE and the same goes for our path to Allah in Islam .The Only Straight Path in Islam is Shia path ,
      nothing else will be accepted!
And as Muslims we must guide our brothers out of ignorance!

@@aliagha1221 yes it is division. At the time of Mohammed (pbuh), we didn’t have Shia or Sunni. Look at what’s going on around the world today. The whole world is bashing us and here you are saying stuff like that. When was the last time you did a good deed ? We Muslims are very quick at criticizing among ourselves. If we don’t unite and put our differences aside, today is my turn to get bas, and tomorrow will be yours.

My dear, Yes at the time of our beloved Prophet we had only Muslims and even then those who followed his Sunnah given to him by Allah the way Ali Ibn Abitalib was following him were called Shia of Ali ,meaning the followers of Ali
My dear ,we dont just make up stories we have evidence
hear read this in Sunni books with the page and the name of the book
Shiah is the Word which was used to call those who were following Ali(AS) As their Leader Before & after the death of Rasulallah(SAWA) With given some of their names like Salmaan Farsi,Abi Zar Al Qaffari ,Al Miqdaad Ibn Al Aswad .Ammar Ibn Yasir

Now,That was not division ,the prophet(SAWA) himself used to call those who perform his sunnah like Ali(AS) as his shia
I have almost ten pages only on this subject
Now! We do not mean to create divisions between his Ummah only like an older brother trying to teach his younger brother how to do things the right way, Yes if you see a Muslim brother doing something wrong,it is your DUTY to stop him or at least try to change his mind to go straight .This is not creating division it is actually trying to make a solid bond and unite the Ummah. Why should we have so many different sects of Islam when we only have ONE QURAN?
Well think about this first then I will explain how did this happen next!

      S.MUSLIM BOOK 30 ;5690
'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (PBU) as saying; I shall be there at the Cistern before you, and I shall have to contend for some people, but I shall have to yield. I would be saying: My Lord, they are my friends, they are my friends, and it would be said: You don't know what innovations they made after you.
I wrote a whole page but could not find it to show you this Hadith
This is proof that After the Prophet(SAWA) those who took over his Islam they destroyed it

This is promoting that both sunni and shia aqueedah can be correct. I am of the Sunni understanding although I prefer to be called a "Muslim." According to my beliefs, we can't both be correct because only one way can be following the prophet(pbuh.) Are religion is from Allah and he chose the companions around our prophet to help preserve our Qur'an and Sunnah of Muhammad(Saws.) What we consider shirk and kufr, many shias don't. We are different and can't be both right.

What i did understand by this conversation that sunnis doesn't believe in what to do with politics but believe in Allah alone n what prophet saw sunnah but Shia believe in politics scenario n fighting for position but it really does matter as Allah is the greatest n he is to be worshipped thats it n follow the sunnah
