You are so wrong on so many levels. While shia's as a whole i believe shouldn't be judged, we can't look into everyone's beliefs, but we can certainly look into the scholarship of twelverism and pass judgement, it, as a creed is NOT at all Islamic.
Obviously Islam does not teach hatred, however we muslims are to know to uphold the infallability of ONLY THE CREATOR, and everyone else can make a mistake. Thus the concept of infallable imams in Shia is unislamic, and as muslims we need to recognize that and pray that they understand the mistake they are on. Respecting others and seeing them as brothers and sisters in humanity is one thing, but accepting their unislamic ways as islamic is another.

Salam Dr. Safiyyah 😊 Thank you first for this beautiful interconfessional dialogue. If I may add two very important things here: 1) Not every inspiration by God to his creation is “wa7i nubuwa”. As you know from Quran, God inspired the bees, Moses’ mother and Jesus’ disciples. 2) the knowledge of the Book or “3ilm-ul-kitab” that is given by God to some of his slaves is different than the Book or “al-kitab” that is given to prophets (see in Quran who brought Balqis’ throne to Solomon). Besides, God favored some with esoteric knowledge or “3ilm laduni” (see in Quran who mentored Moses on the journey that started in the sea)

I could never become Shia because of the very shirk-y things written about the Imams RA in their books among other things. It makes sense. They tried fighting him for years, then “ joined” him and then took over completely corrupting some of his teachings . Why would after going through all the trials and wars , would the prophet leave without appointing a successor? Why did many of those that wouldn’t give their allegiance to the new successor, die so soon after? Why wouldn’t they let him write a will when it is stated in the Quran, leave a will after you pass? Why did his daughter die a few months later ? Why would she die still holding a grudge against the new successor? If I was a detective, or a crime writer, I would suspect foul play and a conspiracy.

This is strictly about Twelver Shia (12 Imams). There is Ishmalis, Zaidis and Alidi(Turkish) If more people knew about Zaidi I feel it would be more mainstream & the numbers would be up drastically. Zaidi think Imams are fallible except in religious interpretation basically like The Pope. There can be more than 1 Imam in different nations only. The Imam doesnt only pass to father & son but can pass to anyone of decent. The Mahdi hasn't been born yet. Other than that it follows the basics of Shia for who would've known Prophet Muhammad pbuh best other than Ali as. He was the 1st male muslim, the only one allowed to marry his favorite child, acted like his secretary, ambassador, a chief warrior, raised like a brother and son yet his cousin and son in law. You forget the Sunna from Profet Muhammad (sas), you must follow the Quran and the Sunna if you are muslim. The 12th Imam's existence cannot be proven. Even the Sunni narrations are unreliable and inauthentic when scrutinized; they most likely crept in from the Shi'a sources. The description of the Mahdi in the Sunni narrations exactly match that of Muhammad Al-Nafsul-Zakiyah, a descendant of Hasan (AS) who revolted against the rule of the Abbasids--coincidence?! I think not. The Mahdi is the "Muslim" version of King Arthur, a savior that will bring justice and solve the problems of the world--this messianic archetype is found in many cultures around the world. Religion shouldn't be mixed with culture and politics, as they corrupt it. May Allah guide us all irrespective of sect.
Imamat is one big lie. The shia belief is not based on the koran. Every shia that read the Koran will be a real sunni muslim. There is no vers in the Koran that say follow ahl albayt. But there are manu verses where allah say follow the muhajiroun and ansar. Elhamdoulilah for sunni Islam❤

I think this is too twelver centric. There are many strands of Shiism. This show comes off as portraying the standard twelver view as the Shia view. For instance, the Zaidiyya do not hold the Imams to be infallible(with exceptions).

There are thousands of books professionaly and scholarly written about the differences by early generations of this umma. There are basic differences , which most of umma who are seeking knowledge know about it. As long as we don't have any disscussions on Ulamma level , these kind of eye to interview do not help. It is excellent to have discussions such as these even though there are many areas of disagreement at a profound level of aqeedah / belief. We as Sunnis should not be hesitant to express where we disagree, but all of us, sunni as well as Shias, should learn to listen and disagree respectfuliy.

I get how based on the explanation that God appoints his leaders, but if God wanted to the imams to be in power after the prophet pbuh then who could stop him? Maybe it was left with the umma to make the decision and be tested with it. But things did happen the way they happened, we can't say God's plan was ruined. Allah is the best of planners.

Glad this convo is being had. Upon hearing this, the Shia view about Imamate seem very weak and unable to stand up to scrutiny. Too many holes that are being filled in with whatever you want. If there’s no revelation then you’re just choosing whoever you want and calling it Divine and expecting everyone to follow it? .
The baseline comes across rationally but there does feel like inconsistency in the teaching. Divine infallibility comes across as a conjecture as it creates an infinite loop i.e. Anything which the 12 Imams could have done incorrectly must be false because they are infallible. On the other hand, from a rational perspective, if people affirm the occurrence of Ghadir Khum, the verses in the Quran clearly stating the obligation on those expecting death to bequeath a will and that those left behind should honour it as well as Imam Ali becoming the 4th Khalifate and playing a notable role in the subsequent leaders rule. (In addition to his role in the Prophet's (PBUH) life.) It would be fair to reach a conclusion that he could have been the leader afterwards and something may have occurred which circumvented that. The divine inheritance and knowledge would be comparable to revelation which creates a contradiction since if it is based on Prophetic Sunnah, the Prophet affirmed the inheritance of leadership to Imam Ali and this sequence should have followed suit through all of the subsequent leaders. Either way it is interesting that the grand result was the same form of ijtihad but just based on alternative sources ultimately. Sadly, things have most likely been exaggerated/manipulated on both sides of this divide to an extent only Allah holds the truth But always remember God will make clear the details we dispute over, Surah 3:19 إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمُ ۗ وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran: Certainly, Allah’s only Way is Islam. You are so wrong on so many levels. While shia's as a whole i believe shouldn't be judged, we can't look into everyone's beliefs, but we can certainly look into the scholarship of twelverism and pass judgement, it, as a creed is NOT at all Islamic.
Obviously Islam does not teach hatred, however we muslims are to know to uphold the infallability of ONLY THE CREATOR, and everyone else can make a mistake. Thus the concept of infallable imams in Shia is unislamic, and as muslims we need to recognize that and pray that they understand the mistake they are on. Respecting others and seeing them as brothers and sisters in humanity is one thing, but accepting their unislamic ways as islamic is another.

Thank you first for this beautiful interconfessional dialogue. If I may add two very important things here: 1) Not every inspiration by God to his creation is “wa7i nubuwa”. As you know from Quran, God inspired the bees, Moses’ mother and Jesus’ disciples. 2) the knowledge of the Book or “3ilm-ul-kitab” that is given by God to some of his slaves is different than the Book or “al-kitab” that is given to prophets (see in Quran who brought Balqis’ throne to Solomon). Besides, God favored some with esoteric knowledge or “3ilm laduni” (see in Quran who mentored Moses on the journey that started in the sea)

I could never become Shia because of the very shirk-y things written about the Imams RA in their books among other things. However, they are way more honest about Islamic history regarding the Fitna wars and the Ummayads horrible treatment of Ahlul Bayt RA than we Sunnis are, I have to give them that.

It makes sense. They tried fighting him for years, then “ joined” him and then took over completely corrupting some of his teachings . Why would after going through all the trials and wars , would the prophet leave without appointing a successor? Why did many of those that wouldn’t give their allegiance to the new successor, die so soon after? Why wouldn’t they let him write a will when it is stated in the Quran, leave a will after you pass? Why did his daughter die a few months later ? Why would she die still holding a grudge against the new successor? If I was a detective, or a crime writer, I would suspect foul play and a conspiracy.
The only correct way of practicing Islam is holding on to the book Allah revealed to his prophet(SAW) and following the Sunnah of the prophet (SAW)
Any other way is Bid'ah( innovation)...

This is strictly about Twelver Shia (12 Imams). There is Ishmalis, Zaidis and Alidi(Turkish) If more people knew about Zaidi I feel it would be more mainstream & the numbers would be up drastically. Zaidi think Imams are fallible except in religious interpretation basically like The Pope. There can be more than 1 Imam in different nations only. The Imam doesnt only pass to father & son but can pass to anyone of decent. The Mahdi hasn't been born yet. Other than that it follows the basics of Shia for who would've known Prophet Muhammad pbuh best other than Ali as. You forget the Sunna from Profet Muhammad (sas), you must follow the Quran and the Sunna if you are muslim. From where do you take the sunna is here wat matters, you must find out where is the source of the correct sunna. The Zaydis don't believe in the infallibility of the Imam and believe that all Imams after Imam Zayd must be knowledgeable descendants of Fatimah (AS) and chosen by a Shurah council; they also believe that their rule applies to their respective region and not all the Muslim Ummah--leadership over all is unrealistic.
With regards to the Mahdi, Kamal Al-Haydari, a well-known Iraqi Shi'a cleric, stated that there are no reliable or authentic chain-based narrations that prove the birth of this so-called Hujjah or Sahib from Imam Hasan Al-Askari. The 12th Imam's existence cannot be proven. Even the Sunni narrations are unreliable and inauthentic when scrutinized; they most likely crept in from the Shi'a sources. The description of the Mahdi in the Sunni narrations exactly match that of Muhammad Al-Nafsul-Zakiyah, a descendant of Hasan (AS) who revolted against the rule of the Abbasids--coincidence?! I think not. The Mahdi is the "Muslim" version of King Arthur, a savior that will bring justice and solve the problems of the world--this messianic archetype is found in many cultures around the world. Religion shouldn't be mixed with culture and politics, as they corrupt it. May Allah guide us all irrespective of sect.

I think this is too twelver centric. There are many strands of Shiism. This show comes off as portraying the standard twelver view as the Shia view. For instance, the Zaidiyya do not hold the Imams to be infallible(with exceptions).

It is excellent to have discussions such as these even though there are many areas of disagreement at a profound level of aqeedah / belief. We as Sunnis should not be hesitant to express where we disagree, but all of us, sunni as well as Shias, should learn to listen and disagree respectfuliy.

I get how based on the explanation that God appoints his leaders, but if God wanted to the imams to be in power after the prophet pbuh then who could stop him? Glad this convo is being had. Upon hearing this, the Shia view about Imamate seem very weak and unable to stand up to scrutiny. Too many holes that are being filled in with whatever you want. The baseline comes across rationally but there does feel like inconsistency in the teaching. Divine infallibility comes across as a conjecture as it creates an infinite loop i.e. Anything which the 12 Imams could have done incorrectly must be false because they are infallible.
On the other hand, from a rational perspective, if people affirm the occurrence of Ghadir Khum, the verses in the Quran clearly stating the obligation on those expecting death to bequeath a will and that those left behind should honour it as well as Imam Ali becoming the 4th Khalifate and playing a notable role in the subsequent leaders rule. (In addition to his role in the Prophet's (PBUH) life.)
It would be fair to reach a conclusion that he could have been the leader afterwards and something may have occurred which circumvented that.
The divine inheritance and knowledge would be comparable to revelation which creates a contradiction since if it is based on Prophetic Sunnah, the Prophet affirmed the inheritance of leadership to Imam Ali and this sequence should have followed suit through all of the subsequent leaders.
Either way it is interesting that the grand result was the same form of ijtihad but just based on alternative sources ultimately.
Sadly, things have most likely been exaggerated/manipulated on both sides of this divide to an extent only Allah holds the truth
But always remember God will make clear the details we dispute over, Surah 3:19
