I tried doing that on my trip last month initially booking 4 nights, but I ended up booking 13 nights in 3 different hotels, the stress and anxiety I would experience is not worth saving 5-10 bucks a night. I prefer having somewhat of an itinerary when I travel.
I agree I'm on holiday I don't need the stress and you're only here for three weeks. If I was long-term then I would book somewhere for ten days and find an apartment. I would even find an agent to find the long-term property An easy life is worth more than money to me, pay more, less stress suits me.

Thanks for posting this; very interesting and I'll personally check out the Basaya when I'm back in November. I've seen it from the road when I visit Jasmin's for breakfast but never wandered inside. Many thanks and I look forward to watching the video you produce of your birthday bash!
If a person can afford to pay 1500 dollars for a flight for a 2-3 week trip that means 75-100 dollars per day then why be so cheap on your place to sleep and spend half of your time. This is your holiday and there are many many very affordable good options at the beach. I could list them but I do not give away my haunts. Most important thing is to know what you want on your trip. Beach, food, quiet place, travel around to various places, girls, bars, etc. Find a place that matches your needs. There are many different choices, but treat yourself well if you only come for 2-3 weeks. That way it was a cool trip that you will remember fondly. Spend money on good food as the prices are much lower than in the west. Treat yourself good. Thanks for the video and Happy Birthday!
The contracts hotels sign with Agoda/Booking are pretty complex but depending on hotel size, they agree to keep a certain number of rooms available for online booking so while a hotel may not be full, the vacant rooms may be part of the online allotment. Hotels must also agree not to rent rooms to walk-ins for less than the online price. Sometimes guests get really frustrated and angry because they will rent a room for two nights on a booking site, then decide to extend for a few more nights. They don't understand when the desk says "Sorry, we can not rent you the room for the same rate for more nights, you have to book it through the booking site." It can get complicated.
Vee's lunch looked great. It seems no matter what accommodations I ever found, there was something else that was better a few days later that someone told me about. At some point one must pull the trigger and enjoy without too much thought to it. Your videos are great to see what's out there. Cheers!
Another trick you didn’t mention look to see if the hotel has its own website. I used this last time I was in pattaya and got a good rate at the amber.
Depends what you are doing and how much time you have. This time I've preferred to pick 3 places that I've been to a lot of times over the years and book all my hotels in advance. This makes me feel less stressed and I know I've got a great deal on each one because I booked everything way back in March after I got a great deal on my flight. If you do a lot of research on your hotels you should have very little issues.
Something that I've never done whilst travelling abroad is only book a hotel for 4 or 5 nights with the hope I can find some kind of a deal, honestly I'd much rather book in advance and have it set in stone, this would give me piece of mind, plus I wouldn't have to waste any of my time whilst on vacation looking for somewhere else to stay, thanks for sharing Lucas, regards from England 🍺🍺👍
I much prefer having confirmed accomodation for the length of my trip. I have in the past done the 4 nights here then moving but it never saved me anything. I always found that a reservation for 21 or so nights gets a better price than 4 nights, and, I don't run the risk of having to accept some crap place at at a stupid price on the last minute.

Hey,huge question? I'm sailing in to Thailand by sea, in or general area ,is there docks, for docking for short term to long term, a Marina of sorts, or is it just anchor moorings is there a cost I need all aspects of coming in by ship sails !
You do a great job with your videos. The best I have seen on RUclips by far in terms of showing the ins and outs of Thailand. Question. What is the best travel site to use to books flights and to book accommodations ? Thanks much.
@@Rides4Kickz For flights I would recommend going direct to the airline example, I booked a flight for my wife, and she had to cancel for health reasons, but the ticket was non-refundable, but they sent a flight alteration and gave an option to refund which I did and got the refund in 3 days in my bank, try that with a booking site.
@@grahamjohnson4702 Yes, that is what I do as well. As an American I use either Google flights or Kayak to find the best flight for me and then book directly with the airline.

Very pertinent video for me. I am coming in September and only have first week hotel booked. I was going to play last 2 weeks by ear, but maybe I will go ahead and prebook. ☺
Great video for people like me. I've been looking at rooms online and checking several dates. Most all good or first choice hotels are sold out for December. The prices will continue to increase with each room that's booked.
Last time I was there my friends booked me in a nice studio cottage 30 minute drive from Pattaya. It was a great place and great value with a large pool. But it was too far from town. Girls get nervous when you take them into the countryside at nighttime for some reason lol 😂😂 I think I prefer to just book in advance a reasonably priced room or apartment at a place no more than 5-10 minutes from town. Won't be checking into sunshine again. I thought a lot of the staff were non chalant plus I'm sure they downgraded me from the higher room type that I booked.
I've done that myself. No matter where I go it always seems the grass is always greener and I end up wishing I was in a different place. So now I never book more than a couple nights anywhere. Thanks Loucous. 👍😎🙏
I did the same as you this afternoon walking around asking at budget hotels. The best price I got was 400 baht. Yes the room was very basic but it had everything that I need. Why pay more ! If you work out how much time you stay in your room then what is it that you are actually paying for.
As far as your exchange kiosk recommend is concerned I just did what you did and according to the websites of TT and Super Rich are concerned at today's rates for GBP Super Rich give 30 cents more and the Euro 5 cents more, That's why I get free hotel shuttle to airport and use the kiosks behind the booking office for the train.

I stayed at Basaya back in 2016. It's been there a long time and features in lots of ye old Pattaya photos, although they are slowly updating the rooms.
It looks like there's still quite a lot of Hotels closed/being refurbished and new ones being built (but not finished). When they're all open then the price will depend to some degree upon demand. Xmas December 2019 agoda was advising around 60% occupancy rate, however NYE was closer to 90%.
Yes, depends on how many will fully reopen by December, but it is expected to be a busy high season. Depends on flight resuming from China as well and airline ticket costs in general.
I noticed you were in Best Supermarket on the very corner of Klang/Sai Song. I love that shop. Was staying at August Suites, just a few meters up, was going to send post cards to mum and dad, but just couldn`t find any, the lady in the post office opposite Chill Inn didn`t have them anymore, was recommended Friendship. Didn`t have any. They sent me to the market at Buakhao/Pattaya Tai, couldn`t find anything that reminded of a post card, had to give up. Took the Baht Bus back to Klang, went in to Best Supermarket and they had stacks of them 55.
You had me thinking over my coffee this morning. A few other points to consider. You do get a discount scheme on Agoda. The more you book the more discount you get like any scheme. It's not a massive discount but it could add up depending on how many you book and length of time in Thailand. Also if you're traveling with others this can lead to issues if someone doesn't like the hotel that's been picked. I had this last time I visited. Rooms weren't the same so people were moaning. Solo you only have yourself to blame 😂 I'm back in November so glad it's all sorted for a months stay 😃

morning Lucas great vids as always mate. could you do a video on mid priced hotels that do buffet breakfasts? I'm the type of guy who loves a good feed downstairs after a big night out.
How was the noise level in the room? I like the place and the owner is a great guy, good food in the restaurant there too, but the other caution is steps upstairs for those with mobility issues.
Don't know but I think it was under a different name and not sure it would have been there in the 70's, I believe it is about 40 years old which would date it to the 80's
Stayed in Queens on Pattaya Klang.. Okay.... Eastiny Bella Vista soi 7... okay... Pig and Whistle soi 7 really liked the rooms but best to get a room at the back as it's not so noisy plus the food is great..... At the top of soi 7 on the left is a loundry/taxi service and they rent a small bungalow hidden with just a doorway to reach it a few yards down. the street... very private.... between soi 7 and soi 8 on second road I've stayed in one of the rooms above the bar/restarant the most basic room but very cheap...
Basaya Beach hotel a bit old :>) Oh yes. It was the very first regular hotel on Pattaya beach. Started as "Nipa Lodge" then renamed to "Nova Lodge". More than 40 years old.
Not heard any stories like that for a good long while now. Was hearing them from some of the domestic travelers here in Thailand last year before the re-opening.
Hi..... great channel.... I would like your opinion on which bike to buy.... I'm comming over in september 25th for six months and have picked out two bikes I like... Honda ADV150 Variants and the Yamaha Aerox 155 COC ABS ... What do you recommend....... thanks..........
Have a video coming on some new bikes this week. I think on paper the Aerox is a better deal than the ADV150. BUT, it will depend on how comfortable you are on each one, need to sit on and possibly test ride. I recommend renting one for a week before purchasing either. I actually don't recommend any of the automatic scooters as I believe they are dangerous on hills because you do not have the ability to downshift and they are runaway trains going down hills. The best deal for a small in-town runabout is probably a Honda Wave, but there again, have to go with what you are comfortable with and many novice riders who come here simply prefer the automatics for ease of use. Twist and Go 👍

Until 2018 we always booked the first night, then did walk-in bookings for 3 x 1 week at 3 very different geographical areas in Pattaya = 3 different holidays, local bars, restaurants and company. Would do it again when we win the Euromillions 🇪🇺🇨🇵.
Nice, sounds like fun.
Hey,huge question? I'm sailing in to Thailand by sea, in or general area ,is there docks, for docking for short term to long term, a Marina of sorts, or is it just anchor moorings is there a cost I need all aspects of coming in by ship sails !
If i know im sticking to the city, i would rather just pre-book before my trip and not have to worry about anything
Great premise for a video. Very informative...Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
HAppy Birthday to You AND Me! Mine also the 30th, Wish I were back there with you Celebrate! Cheers!
Nice, Happy birthday!
@@Rides4Kickz E Tu Lucas! I watch your watch your channel all the time. I lived in Thailand from 1974-1978 and I miss it. Thanks for all you do. 🎶🎸✌🏼😎
Man! Vee's Chicken Wings got my mouth watering like the Hoover Dam
Lolz, nice 👍🙏
Happy B-day at the Rabbit hole !! I will been there in a few weeks !!
Nice 👍
Great that You would do the leg work and inspect
these Hotels ....Thanks , and see You on Tuesday .
Happy [ Early ] Birthday .....
Awesome Ray, Cheers! 👍🙏
Thanks for sharing be safe Great video You do a great job lilo
Thank You 🙏
You do a great job with your videos. The best I have seen on RUclips by far in terms of showing the ins and outs of Thailand. Question. What is the best travel site to use to books flights and to book accommodations ? Thanks much.
Thanks, I wouldn't know for flights, but I recommend Agoda for hotels.
Good info keep doing good work
I stayed in the bassaya 4 years ago..spot on location and a great big pool
Felt comfortable there 👍🙏
Happy birthday my friend and am also celebrating my 35TH wedding anniversary 🍷🍷🍷 cheers
I'm coming end of October for 2 and a half weeks, would you say thats peak time or not?
Great video. I have 7 days booked for next month. After that I want to look around like this but not move around too much. I plan on being there about 60 days.
Nice 👍👍
Very pertinent video for me. I am coming in September and only have first week hotel booked. I was going to play last 2 weeks by ear, but maybe I will go ahead and prebook. ☺
I stayed there would not do it again, Hotel Pattaya Beach. None of the photos online matched the conditions of the room.
Hey R4K I saw a sign Aussie bar @2:42 on your video what is it and is it still open or for rent ? or sale ?
Great video for people like me. I've been looking at rooms online and checking several dates. Most all good or first choice hotels are sold out for December. The prices will continue to increase with each room that's booked.
Glad it was helpful!
@Zach zachary I've been searching on agoda. Blackwoods are completely booked for December. Agoda had a message saying 53% of all rooms are sold out.
@Zach zachary yes. That's what I'm going to do. I'm a rookie so I may be completely wrong but just passing along what little info I have.
Happy Birthday in advance Loucous, make it a good one 🍻
Thanks 👍🙏
Thanks for the information Loucous 👍
Thanks Dave 👍
Is agoda the cheapest to book? any other good ones to book while you are still in your home country?
Have a great day lucas 🇺🇸🇹🇭🇦🇺🍺🙏🤟
You too Erikh 👍🙏
Last time I was there my friends booked me in a nice studio cottage 30 minute drive from Pattaya. It was a great place and great value with a large pool. But it was too far from town. Girls get nervous when you take them into the countryside at nighttime for some reason lol 😂😂
I think I prefer to just book in advance a reasonably priced room or apartment at a place no more than 5-10 minutes from town. I like convenience of staying at same place near everything.
Vee, knows the way to a man's heart. Curry and chicken wings. Man, that looked fantastic.
Happy birthday when it comes Loucas 👍✌️🙏. I hope you have a party next year. I'll definitely be coming to that one. 👍
Nice Rich, yeah she can put out a nice spread 👍
Stayed at twin palms , the sheets were so clammy and rotten. I think u get much more bang for your buck in the condos on air bnbs , come with gyms and beautiful pool areas.
Won't be checking into sunshine again. I thought a lot of the staff were non chalant plus I'm sure they downgraded me from the higher room type that I booked.
As usual great content!
Much appreciated!
Thanks for the shoe leather work.
Nice to see the dollar on par with the Euro.
Let’s go! (As Tom Brady would emote)
You bet 👍🙏
What is a better time to come to pattaya October or November ? Or February march?
I've done that myself. No matter where I go it always seems the grass is always greener and I end up wishing I was in a different place. So now I never book more than a couple nights anywhere. Thanks Loucous. 👍😎🙏
There ya go Mitch, plus you never know what the situation will actually be like until you are boots on the ground. 👍
I did the same as you this afternoon walking around asking at budget hotels. The best price I got was 400 baht. Yes the room was very basic but it had everything that I need. Why pay more ! If you work out how much time you stay in your room then what is it that you are actually paying for.
Yes, that is a valid point.
As far as your exchange kiosk recommend is concerned I just did what you did and according to the websites of TT and Super Rich are concerned at today's rates for GBP
Super Rich give 30 cents more and the Euro 5 cents more, That's why I get free hotel shuttle to airport and use the kiosks behind the booking office for the train.
Super Rich at the airport is probably the best, not many around in Pattaya but TT are everywhere.
@@Rides4Kickz I check every time and the ones at the airport all give the same rates, except some don't give different rates for high denomination notes.
Have you ever stayed at Lek Villa? North end. 1000 bath
Heya! Dumb question - what kind of little Ford truck is that at 9:31? Like Ranger sized? We have those smaller, new Maverick trucky-car things here but I've not seen too many driving around yet. Just curious!
yeah, it's one of the Ford Ranger variants here, there are severl. One of them uses the Mustang logo in the grill 🤣😂
@@Rides4Kickz I liked the one in the video. The new maverick seems good for city dwellers…not as hard to park as the big monster trucks that you see all over the suburbs here;-/
I stayed at Basaya back in 2016. It's been there a long time and features in lots of ye old Pattaya photos, although they are slowly updating the rooms.
I love when places have those old photos on the walls 👍🙏
It looks like there's still quite a lot of Hotels closed/being refurbished and new ones being built (but not finished). When they're all open then the price will depend to some degree upon demand.
Xmas December 2019 agoda was advising around 60% occupancy rate, however NYE was closer to 90%.
Yes, depends on how many will fully reopen by December, but it is expected to be a busy high season. Depends on flight resuming from China as well and airline ticket costs in general.
@@Rides4Kickz That appears to ignore the economic depressions/recession in China (a bit like the Gov is trying to do in the USA).
Haha, I seem to see them on sale along beach road at some of those small gift shops as well.
Solo you only have yourself to blame 😂
I'm back in November so glad it's all sorted for a months stay 😃
Basaya rooms are very small at 20 and 24 square meters...
Great and informative video Lucas but the highlight for me was those delicious looking chicken wings made to order by Chef VEE!!! When is happy hour at Casa De Lucas??
Very good 😂👍🙏
Nicely put together Lucas. I’d be interested in Vee’s special chicken wings! 😜See you on Tuesday
You guys will have to come over one day for lunch. You won't be disappointed, in the wings, some of the best anywhere in town.
We look forward to that
Your lunch looks sooooo yummie..
Vee, that lunch looks amazing!
So good! 😉
sunshine hotel was the first hotel I stayed in 1982 must be one of the oldest hotels in pattaya .
morning Lucas
great vids as always mate.
could you do a video on mid priced hotels that do buffet breakfasts?
I'm the type of guy who loves a good feed downstairs after a big night out.
Haha, I know what you mean 😂👍🙏
Definitely a low season strategy. Thanks for the insight.
You bet 👍🙏
I usually stay at hideaway on soi 15 . 850 baht a night. Rooms cleaned every day. Staff brilliant. food in bar spot on . And central.
How was the noise level in the room? I like the place and the owner is a great guy, good food in the restaurant there too, but the other caution is steps upstairs for those with mobility issues.
@@Rides4Kickz yeh you're right no lifts to rooms. Could be noisy with roadworks outside . Andy is really good host.
Very good thanks
Most welcome
Curious to know if the Basaya hotel was once an R&R hotel for US military in the early 1970s.
👍👍👍
Thanks, see you in December 🙂
Awesome 👍🙏
Good video. Never done that, always book my hotel for the time. Maybe next time I will.
Just another possibility, up to you 😂👍🙏🙏
Basaya Beach hotel a bit old :>) Oh yes. It was the very first regular hotel on Pattaya beach. Started as "Nipa Lodge" then renamed to "Nova Lodge". More than 40 years old.
That is about what I'd of guessed, but looks like they have kept it up well.
Good info Lucas.. Was wondering do you know if anyone booked online and then arrive and they say not available!!
thx
Not heard any stories like that for a good long while now. Was hearing them from some of the domestic travelers here in Thailand last year before the re-opening.
Hi..... great channel.... I would like your opinion on which bike to buy.... I'm comming over in september 25th for six months and have picked out two bikes I like... Honda ADV150 Variants and the Yamaha Aerox 155 COC ABS
