Back in 2019, Hotel desk workers always told me it was better to book through Agoda to get a cheaper price than in person at the desk. I always found this to be true when checking prices, but this was back in 2019 and earlier. I was not aware that booking online from different countries throughout the world makes a difference in the price you are given, so using a VPN to change your location when booking is definitely a great idea. Finally, one last suggestion is that if you are going for at least one month or longer you can get a much better deal booking a Condo rather than a hotel. I spent at least twice as much renting a hotel for 1 month than I would have renting a Condo back in 2019, but you can't rent a Condo unit for less than one month according to Thai Law (i.e., law to protect hotel industry as Condos are supposed to be for long-term stays only). Great video! Thank you.
Congratulations on 50k subscribers! I'm a subscriber since March 2020 and this is my first comment. Your channel is literally my favorite RUclips channel. The videos are a perfect combination chill vibe, fun, excitement and information. It's funny because I've never been to Pattaya, nor do I have any plans to ever go to Pattaya, yet following along with your adventures has been the most enjoyable part of this pandemic for me. You're a natural. When you moved to Pattaya a few years ago, I don't think you could even imagine the events that would unfold and the success your channel would have. You've been the eyes and ears in Pattaya for the Western world during what has been one of the major events in world history. Your videos are elevated beyond merely entertainment and a retirement side income; your work is now part of the historical record. There is a saying: 'The times make the man'. In your case, I believe you're the right man, in the right place, at the right time.
Great info Lucas ,for the long stayers .Me on my holiday ,i need a swimming pool because you wont catch me in that sea .🤦♂️Congrats on the 50 ,Not surprised 😉
A tip when booking on Agoda, to get the total price including all taxes, click on the currency symbol top right and select total price and all prices displayed will be the price you pay including taxes.
FYI just checked price on Agoda for Natural Beach Hotel: 1) with my VPN (using Thailand); 626 baht, 2) logging in from USA without VPN $19 --- Virtually the same
Great show Lucas and very informative. Hope your breakfast on this day was not cold after your introduction. Is there any chance you could include an update on currency exchange rates every few episodes . Perhaps take a video of the shop windows which dispay most currencies. Thanks
I've used 5* hotels all over Asia on business (usefully before laptops/intenet/wifi became common) and privately (it made the Ex happy). In some countries like Thailand it's now completely unnecessary for me. I spend the minimum time in Hotels and the maximum time out spending the money I've saved by using a cheap or low-midrange hotel (or AirBnB). Each to their own but that's my take on Thailand accommodation.
After waiting 2 years since last 10th Thai trip ( obviously we don't like Thai lol ) the lovely and i Just booked flights and cribs from Melbourne for 3 weeks in FEB22 for Phuket and then Pattaya at View Talay 6. Older building, but best value for location, condo/balcony size and sea view ( facing walking street, Ko larn ) for us. We have stayed in many Pattaya condo/Hotels. Panoramic suite at Terminal 21 is the most rad we have done and Siam Siam corner junior suite is super cool as well. Can't believe AUS is letting us out. Seems to good to be true! Finger crossed. Hi to Lucas and Vee! Hope we bump in and say gday!
Need to book first night at SHA+ hotel within 2 hour drive of Suvarnabhumi, which means Bangkok and Pattaya. The hotel must provide a "sealed" ride to hotel, then provide a PCR-RT test usually through a nearby hospital. Must stay in room until results come back, but most hotels seem to include 3 meals. Then no restrictions, including staying in the same hotel at a much lower rate. In 7 days must self report results of a home test kit the hotel gave you using the government Morchana phone app. So the first night is a lockdown and most budget hotels don't have the capacity to meet these requirements. At least in the beginning. I arrive early November so this will definitely be a learning experience. You are absolutely right about booking directly because for first nights, Agoda is simply not up to speed yet.
what funny is:years ago many hotels did only accept bookings with agoda, i booked hotels while standing at the desk of the hotel, and most times it was cheaper using agoda.good video lucas!!
Excellent video on the budget hotels, very good tips on booking, buying a local SIM using cellphone as a hotspot for tablet, Laptop. Will watch your next videos with interest. Excellent editing again Amazing Thailand.
When we went last year (Bangkok) you had to provide an address to immigration. There was a poor fellow in front of us who was going to go down to Pattaya and find a place and he was "stuck" there with a dying cell phone trying to hook up with his buddies on where they were staying. I'd certainly recommend having at least your first night booked before arriving.
Congratulations Loucous on hitting the 50K, that’s awesome!! I’m so looking forward to seeing how things turn out these next couple of months, I hope visit in Jan or Feb.
In the same alley as "Ice Inn" is Siam Guest House. Before I got my condo, that was my go to hotel choice for years before covid. If you rented a room on the left side of the alley, it was very quiet. (even during songkran) The front desk staff are very sweet people. On airbnb, you can rent at "The Base" condo for pretty cheap.
Lucas, this is so darned helpful, can't thank you enuff! Never in my dreams would I have ever thought I'd visit Thailand. Somehow found your channel and, because of your great vids, now I can't wait to visit as soon as that is possible for me. Thank you so much.
Thank you again for giving us a great information. It’s really very beneficial to anyone visiting Thailand. I enjoy your videos as always, and have a great day.
Congratz on 50k!... Good work.. and as travelers are required to book ASQ for at least 1 night, they will have a day to do some local searching... unless you test positive, in which case you'll be paying a h3lla lot more in the gov hospital for a week or more...
I stayed in the studio room at Chaiyapoon inn really nice staff and location. I also stayed at natural beach good room and location but the shower water wasnt the cleanest
Pro tip Book 1 or 2 nights Spend first days wandering around looking for for rent signs for rooms above bars or businesses, generally these aren't on agoda and you'll deal directly with the owner, you'll be able to negotiate a good monthly price, save a bomb
Great advice about New Years Eve Lucas, I arrived one time on that day and went around on a motor taxi forever trying to get a room, eventually got one at the north end of beach road for about €70,a bit steep but I was delighted to get a room, great view of the fireworks that night though😜 , the next day it was like a ghost town, everyone went home, great again 😆
Thanks for the information . What about money exchange? Is it better to exchange money at the bank or the exchange booths? Looking forward to the next one. Thanks
Great advice. Will have to book at least 1st night before travel in an ASQ hotel to get RT-PCR results on arrival. Will be coming for 2 months and have all December / January. Booked in Hotel in Pattaya for all December then looking for Condo for January. your next 2 videos may change my mine on that though I question you may be able to advise on. Where would you recommend buying a Bone Dome (helmet) in Pattaya? Would need to be of the "larger" dimensions
The continental bakery is such a hidden gem. It seems like I've been going there forever. They sell "bloomers" - genuine English white crusty loaves. They also use them for amazing sandwiches.
@@Rides4Kickz in 2019, pre COVID - I was able to book a decent 2 start hotel room in Da Nang for an incredible $7 using VPN with a Vietnamese IP Address. The same room price from Australia was $29!

The main issue here , is the contractual arrangements with the likes of Agoda , Hotel Combined , Airbnb. Skimming 20%+ of the room prices for starters. Motels cannot sell rooms cheaper than on these advertised sites. One cannot walk in off the street , book a room with cash and expect to get cheaper rates. If motels get caught out doing this, they lose access to these sites. This was explained to me by hotel staff ,much to my displeasure , that I should use the hotel computer to place a reservation ,which worked out to be cheaper by 400 baht on a 4.5* hotel.
I got a feeling there are going to be a whole lot of disappointed Hotel owners,Bar owners and others in the Pattaya business area when No one shows up the rest of this year.Still to many silly restrictions on entering Thailand.
Yes, when some of them told me prices were going up in November, I felt like they were putting the cart before the horse. Lets wait and see what the demand will be before altering the supply.
How did I miss this? Very useful, although I live in Thailand. I stayed in Ice Inn a couple of times, 2009 and 2013, then it seemed to get worse. Heard it has improved. Very good massage place on the ground floor. Proper massage, I mean, not the R&T type. I think I'll use Baan Sila next time I'm in town.
Congrats on the 50K Lucas! Love the videos and hands down the best RUclips voice on the entire platform. I am moving to Pattaya first quarter of next year. I will have a very small dog with me, I know not ideal, but she is family. Pet friendly Central Pattaya condos may be hard to find, but to my understanding, Jomtien and Pratumnak are a little more pet friendly. Can you and your viewers comment on which location would be preferred and a quick why? Don't need a party scene, just good wifi, easy food access and transportation. They look same same to me, but a little info from those in the know couldn't hurt.
Yes, the difference really in pets vs no pets will be the age of the building. IMO it's all the new places which have pet policies. The older places seem to allow pets many times, so the trick would be finding an older place that is well maintained and allows pets.
It used to be that it was very difficult to find accomodation around new year. I remember looking to find a room on new years eve about 6 or 7 years ago around soi buakhao for a friend of mine and could not find any in buakhao (even the dirty short time room near soi honey was full) and the side streets and had to venture just past 3rd road. The last 3 years or so I noticed that there were plenty of rooms for rent on soi buakhao soi lengke and everywhere in general. Tourism being the way it is now i don't see any issues.
Great Vid as always . I didn't know there was a price difference between booking in Thailand & Abroad . KJS House on Soi Pothole has excellent basic rooms ( good bed , spotless , safe , fridge , A/C ) , Not on any websites , 500 b .
THANK YOU... IF the Philippines does not open by March 2022 (CEBU) I may just go to Thailand? I'm not on a budget and I'm still at $100 a day so I'm good for 30 days. I'm not into hotel rooms or traveling around. I stick to one place with a beach front/ blocks off the beach and vacation!!! Now you got to show me the $1 to $1.50 local beers on the beach? LOL Kidding...
I enjoyed this one. I've been to Pattaya around half a dozen times and always stayed in a place called Srithong Place, on Pattaya Klang. It's set back from the road opporsire Keng Lee, near Soi Buakhao. It's like a hotel in that it has a front desk and night guard but just has rooms, no amenities. Price stayed the same at 800thb for a night, rooms have air-con, WC & shower plus a room safe. I do like the safes, perhaps in your other reviews you could say whether rooms have them? Plus Srithong was guest friendly, nothing worse than getting charged more when you return one night with a local gal.....
just an idea for a future video . you were talking about taxes and a video talking about how Thailand taxes their people and more importantly how do they tax retirees ,long stay and people that own condos . as always great video and thanks for all the great info !!!
Wow loucas unbelievable!! I used to always stop at natural beach hotel/baan sila hotel many years ago, nice room above the pool with the massage shop behind the pool leading to beach road, and my girlfriend aon used to work at ice inn !!! 2013 onwards, so this was a really great watch my friend thank you ! Very happy memories came flooding back 🙏😉👊
Hi Lucas I liked the Siam Guest house was ok. Soy Honey Arya was ok but not as friendly.the Malee on Honey closer Buakau was cool budget but local was good, I see it is closed now, my looks like it may go ahead this Friday which will have me recovering for up to 3months, then hopefully back to Pattaya March/April all being well👍love the content Sir
Well - can you get a simcard in the airport these days? I am confused about this because everybody tells me that they try to get you out of the airport as fast as possible because of Covid-19 and off to your hotel. So will they allow you to stop and buy a sim-card?
Usually you can, if there are shops and kiosks closed right now, that will only be temporary and when travel resumes, there will be many available there.
I bought one online from Amazon beforehand, when I went in January (straight to quarantine). Later on, I got a decent 800 baht limitless data deal - I think it was 30 days - from an AIS shop in Big C. Much better than topping up expensively at the machines outside 7-11 etc
I wonder if you book a hotel with a VPN in your home country that relocates your computer to Thailand, would you get the lower rate? Might be worth a try.

Definitely a possibility, should be able to experiment that way and see if the rates are lower.

Best to go to the sub basement in the airport, the rates down there are the best and it only takes you a few more minutes.
I expect Basaya Beach Resort will be on the list. You actually told me few months back that you will check it out.
Great advice. Will have to book at least 1st night before travel in an ASQ hotel to get RT-PCR results on arrival.

Great work Lucas ..can u get a price on Sleep With Me in your next vlog?
Great Video, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it
Just asking. Are you still going to do the luxury houses ?
Yes
@@Rides4Kickz thx
I've stayed at Skaw Beach Hotel..Pattayas very own Fawlty Towers...
A good time to do these series, thanks.
Yes, I thought so too. 👍
just an idea for a future video . you were talking about taxes and a video talking about how Thailand taxes their people and more importantly how do they tax retirees ,long stay and people that own condos . as always great video and thanks for all the great info !!!
Another good option is to use a VPN and locate it in Bangkok and then search or hotels in Thailand.
4th .But your still Number 1 in. 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
Very happy memories came flooding back 🙏😉👊
So cool! 👍
Can you use a VPN tool to select a THAILAND server to get the local prices?
Hi Lucas
I liked the Siam Guest house was ok.
Nice, I wish you well 👍
I like the outside Breakfast in the am..As always
good Info , something to think about..
Great Ray, many nice outside venues for a good breaky.
Same floor as exit point from immigration, baggage, and taxi meeting place ! Hang a left turn down the walkway, they are there !
Others claim that works, give it a try.
