Those bags are great to condition your legs from the knees down ……entry-mid level…..the rolling pin 🧷 method is by far the sorest but you’ll smash through anything with your legs a few years in!!
@@sunofpeter2 Are you hopping to switch? That's a common problem. It's a switch, yes, but rear foot lands first...it's a rock towards the front foot, not a hop.
@@robwithrbk you know I might be , I am however keeping my toes in contact with the floor , sliding them along the ground. I first learned to switch in karate, I am inadvertently defaulting into that wide stance.
@sunofpeter2 Gotcha. Yeah, a hop will slow you down a lot too. You should be able to pull off a switch kick rather tightly. Front foot becomes rear, pushing you (almost rocking forward but very quickly) on to the weight of your now lead leg. To hop and do that is really slow and tends to widen the stance. Good luck bro.
@@robwithrbk Where did you train? I trained for about 14 years at AMC pankration in Kirkland. Before Matt Hume moved the school. I also trained under Kru Rameriz in Seattle. Fought in lumpinee stadium where I got my butt kicked. Now, I am just an old guy that doesn't fight anymore. At 52 we all slow down. That being said I wish you the best in life and your career.
At my gym, kiatmoo9, we dont focus so much on how big or small the switch is, we focus on the speed of the switch. the way you move your feet will differ depending on how you’re using the kick(offensively, defensively, moving forward or backwards and cutting the angle), but I was taught the speed of the switch and the speed of the hip turning over is what generates the power necessary for a powerful kick. And we are the best kickers on the planet.
I’m not too fawned of the switch kick. I really try to blade and step out to throw my lead leg. Some of the newer guys like how the switch kick looks, but just winds up telegraphing the kick. I really like this short switch. Cuts down opponents reaction time. I’m pretty short at 5’5” and getting old. I don’t have the speed or power I had in my early 20’s. I do love kicking the back outside part of the knee, on the lead leg. This sets up the switch kick to the inside part of the same knee. This seems to work nicely. Particularly against taller guys.
@@jdjjsnsnsjdjdjsjsnsj4457 From how I have used it is to switch stances from orthodox to southpaw with the exception to generate more power. I do believe it’s good to train particularly for hip mobility and diversity. I believe people like to do it, because it looks cool. Like almost like a cool fight sequence. That being said I believe that you can get as much power with faster preserved speed by stepping at and angling correctly. This is what works for me. To switch kick: you must actively bring you front leg forward the fire off the kick. Now to kick with the lead leg if you step out at an angle with your back leg, you effectively put your self in the exact stance but at a different position. The forward leg now becomes the rear leg and it’s a lot faster and less noticeable.
Thats akin to telegraphing your punches. Same move can be effected by a hip swivel , turning your anchor foot by the hip and toe anchoring on the heel leading with the knee snapping the ankle on the final thrust. Train it enough to develop timing into power...
With all due respect, the switch kick is one of the most common and effective moves in Muay Thai, and I'm sure you're familiar with just how effective Muay Thai as a combat sport has proven itself to be over the years. Therefore, though you may be correct in some points, I think it might be best to let the kicks proven usability and effectiveness speak for itself. Have a nice day! :)
@@syndra7757 No doubt, it is a very powerful move indeed. No disrespect intended but for the bigger guys, that initial shift of weight for the anchoring power shot is telling a story and if your good enough, you can evade it or absorb it everytime rendering it useless as it draws a lot of energy. But for the smaller guys it generates a lot of speed and power for sure. I train it too and know the power that comes from it. Thank you

@@CalebFowlerOfficial It is true I find it gives the Kick more pop. super easy to counter you say. You say counter and do not even bother describing the counter to use.
