New Security Measures for Casio Watches at Our Local Walmart Stores

- A few years ago I mocked the local Walmart Stores because many of them had a "Fine Jewelry" department. I wondered if anyone would really buy things like expensive wedding rings or other "fine" items at Walmart. But, to be honest, it was nice to know that there was a portion of the store dedicated to jewelry and watches, even if I didn't expect those products to be high-end.
I found a lot of interesting deals at Walmart stores, especially when they might offer extreme closeout discounts on watches that had spent too much time in the display cases. Where else could you find a Casio Duro watch for under $15 or a G-Shock discounted from $99 to half that price... or less?
In recent years, however, the local Walmart stores near me have eliminated their jewelry departments and now they just have a small "Accessories" area. They generally don't carry any G-Shock watches nor any other Casios that cost more than $35. They also carry watches from unknown brands like "George" or "Time and Tru". And, just this week, I discovered that the inexpensive Casios they carry have either been locked inside glass cases or they have had large, plastic security tags attached to them.
It just makes me sad. I used to have fun browsing the inventory of Casios at Walmart stores. Sometimes I'd find great deals and enjoy a nice impulse purchase. It seems those fun days may be gone forever. I don't know when I'll find another place where I can check out G-Shocks and other Casios in person before buying them.
Casios and Legos are in glass cases now. What a world.
My local Walmart just purged all of their Casio and Timex watches. They stopped selling G-Shocks a few years ago, and in the past few months clearanced out all their Casios on the rotating displays on top of the jewelry cabinets. Earlier this week I went in and the displays and watches were gone. I managed to snag a number of good deals during the clearance process, but I’m not happy to see another Walmart in the area abandoning the Casio watch line.
And that only directs people away from them and toward online retailers. Very disappointing
When I was in Honolulu in December, the Walmart there had very few G Shocks, and no good deal. All the Casio and Timex watches were inside the locked glass cases.
My Walmart has doesn’t have the security devices yet but anything above an F105W is locked up in one of those countertop lazy Susan displays. I bought an AE1200 a few years ago and it was such a hassle to get someone to unlock the thing. Then they wouldn’t let me carry it around, they had to accompany me to the register at the front of the store to purchase it.
Crime and shoplifting is rampant in the US so it is not surprising.
It's part of my 'Speedbump Theory of Life'. All must pay for the sins of others, from speedbumps in parking lots to locked up deodorant at Walmart.
Hi mr. Anderson! Thank you for all your videos. I subscribed to your channel a while ago. I put the thumb up as well. You're my Casio watch expert. I went to Walmart in LaSalle (a Montreal's borough) a couple days ago and you could still manipulate the watches from the shelves. Walmart might change their policies about watches here too. The only difference is the currency. 1$ USD = 1.42$ CAN. I bought a G-Shock (3159) GW-M5610BA from Japan throughout a proxy (Buyee) 3 years ago. It has a bluish screen. I paid $170 USD all included (taxes, duties, shipping). When I want the exact time I press on 'Get' and I put my watch on the base of the window. I orient my watch to south west (Colorado). I always get the exact time at 00:04 EST. I bought a Casio watch for my bro about 33 years ago. It still works. He only has to change the battery. Keep up the good work, mr. Anderson. Take Care!
Few bad actors ruining the fun for everyone else. What else is new😅

😂😂😂 thats exactly so
Our Walmarts did the same thing. No more jewellery counter. There is a very small free standing rotary display with some off brand $8 to $15 watches and a few timex models on a a shelf near by.
Yep me too sad primarily due to not carrying more casios, but yes they are locked up behind glass.
At my local Walmart here in Austin, they have all the Casio watches in a locked counter. If you want to check out a watch out you have to find a store employee, and sometimes they aren't so easy to find. I also noticed that the selection of Casio watches has dwindled significantly recently. They only had two $99 G-Shocks in the whole store.
Not yet on my area. But most of my purchases of Casios been through Amazon.
I hate going to Walmart. Target is better, but not by much. I buy most of my G-Shocks from Casio when they have specials. They ship quickly and the support is excellent.
Our local Walmart completely removed the jewelery counter and put the watches on a two sided display near the groceries and womens. Hard to tell if they will go with the cage approach for security. Did manage to buy a George analog watch on clearance for a dollar. 😀
I'm a alarm engineer in the UK and 2 day's ago I was working up some step ladders in a convenience store when a guy walked in grabbed 4 bottles of wine and ,yes walked out again without paying , the staff ran to the door ,looked across the street and said "it's him again " the UK police will not attend a shop lift like this anymore ,the world is going down hill just a bit every day's 👍
wal mart near me has glass protecting the underwear because of basketball Americans
I agree. This is disappointing. I’d also be concerned with that device scratching the watches. I know Casios and Timex are sought out for durability but a new watch should be new condition. Great video.
It's a sign of the times here in the U.K most of the supermarkets have security tabs on the meat now and baby formula and alcoholic drinks not a lot of uk supermarkets sell watches even when are asda was owned by Walmart
My Wal-Mart just put in an "end-cap" full of Casios. I saw pretty much all models of the AE-1500 there. Almost bought one. They only put their G-Shocks behind glass at my store (and they only carry a couple lower end G-Shocks).
They have inside info. They know that even Casio watches will soon be a luxury item for most people that have to shop at Walmart.
Great video, and I do share the same sentiment. Our local walmart here in Northern California doesn't even have the watches on display. All we have are the sticker photo's. It's unfortunate how times have changed over the years, and it seems it's getting worse as time continues to tick.
By the way, I've been waiting 12 years for the next episode of The Atomic Timekeeping Podcast to release a new episode. Any plans to release one in the future? :)
And yes, your website is still online..surprisingly.
Sometimes they have a little display case with gshocks in there. But mostly their cheap stuff is still open. Couple I’ve been to had everything in a case and needed a key. Sad
If I am in the area of a Walmart in my travels, I select the store in the mobile app and see what is in stock. They're all fairly different and inventory is messed up. Have not seen the security device yet. One store in Okemos Michigan had a lot of Timex, Accutron, and regular Casio but no G-Shocks. It was well organized for the most part. I suppose the stores that have a lot of shrink are trying to circumvent it.
Greg it is really sad that theft is even hitting on cheap Casio watches. I will tell you outside of the USA that mostly quality watches are either behind glass in watch stores or tagged with stick on security tags that can be deactivated at the check out. You can't blame the retailers. It's just hard on the bargain watch hunters who prefer a more tactile approach to shopping.
I checked Amazon - none of those pesky little anti-theft tags!
All the Casios, Timex and Armitron were locked at my Walmart. There were also Skechers brand. None of them looked interesting anyway.
Interesting! 🤔 Do you think that these security tags might damage the finish of the watches at all?
Nice double wristing, BTW! 😎👌
I wonder about that. I'm guessing that the folks who are installing these security devices won't be as careful about attaching them as you and I might be if we were assigned to do it.
Empty here in SoCal
The Walmart in Santa Fe put all theirs in the big glass cabinet.
que bonitos los dibujos de la pared
Just a sign of the times, Greg. Sad, but it is what it is.
There are no Walmart stores in Spain.
Yah, that's pretty sad.
I can understand if walmart is losing most of this inventory to shoplifting by just saying well we wont carry this type item anymore. But why are they still not checking customers out and purging endless dollars on less than honest self checkers. By this point i really figured they would have lost so much money to theft theyd just start hiring cashiers again. I truly believe this is part of the grocery hike in recent times other than the leadership being as poor as it was economically. Other retailers set their prices according to walmart. I can definitely see how many they would have to sell to account for just one theft.
Signs of the times my friend.
OTC medication and shaving stuff is all locked up. I asked one of the workers and YES: it's because they get stolen......; you can thank the previous admin. that let so many people come in and also did NOT prosecute thieves.......
I never go into Walmart because of their terrible business model and the crappy way they treat their employees. They are the anthesis of COSTCO. I buy my G’s and Casios on-line. But that’s just me. Obviously other folks feel differently…and THAT’S what makes a horse race, as they say.
I left a message on an old video that didn't receive a response. Any interest in selling your Pro Trek PRW-50Y ?
I haven't had any interest in selling any of my watches. That's just the way I am.
@GoodTimekeeper I promise to give it a good home if you ever change your mind.
well, enjoy what you americans (allegedly) voted for... in 2020 tho. Great vid
