100%. When I buy a watch, I want it to last. The chrome paint over plastic sounds so cheap that makes it an immediate non-starter for me, unless it's only $30 or $40.
I love how they kept the retro look design and feel while adding more good features without going overboard and maintain the model essence. Bravo Casio.
I've gone from Apple Watch to a simple Casio again like in my youth because at least I don't have to recharge it every night and I can actually see today's date again or very simply use a stopwatch and if anything goes wrong I'll just buy another. Best watch ever made, simple, efficient, affordable and very retro-stylish. The only difference is that in my youth I owned the black plastic models and today I prefer the silver metal ones like here.
I only wear Casio (don't care about smartwatches) and have done so for 40 years. I am loving that Casio is catering to their FANS...keeping loyal customers.
I had to swap the bracelet on the 168 for a cheap rubber strap immediately. I have very hairy arms and the 168 strap was unbearable with the hair pulling. Is the abl-100 better?

Thank you for the review, didn't know this existed. Even with google trained to notify me about Casio products, this slipped. I like the bluetooth and step tracker function, would be great if it has solar too, but it will probably going to make the price crosses the entry level G-Shock barrier.
@@guve25 Glad you found the video helpful. Yeah, that's a sweet watch - the Bluetooth and step tracker are super handy. And I agree, solar power would be a killer feature! 🔥
I'm so glad Casio keep the important Functions without the Phone-Connection. Not everything has to be "smart" today, sometimes it is very calming just to be offline... Thank you for the great video with focus on the important features! 👍
This was the biggest thing for me actually! On some Bluetooth casios you can't even set the timer normally unless you go through the app 😕 totally defeats the purpose of having a watch to have to keep pulling out your phone all the time
@@Shaker626 Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. Though, there exists an open-source and hackable replacement circuit board for the F-91W (and other Casio watches that share the same movement), called Sensor Watch which has an active community around it and has useful features. Note that it doesn't have Bluetooth support.
Obviously a good watch. I stopped buying Casio digitals because, a. Too much text around display window b. Mm-dd format - it is confusing because everywhere we use dd-mm. But in this by adding year, it is sort of sorted.
I get your points about the text and date format. It's definitely a matter of preference. On some G-Shocks you can change the format actually! This one seems like a good compromise with the year added in. 👍
I'm happy after purchasing it 4 months ago : I have not connected it via Bluetooth, I just need steps count and see it's progress through the day (it actually shows if you've been less active in the past hours), I adore stopwatch features (use it from gym to grill) and it looks very similar to A168 which I used to wear 30 years ago.

There are a few advantages of synchronizing the time with Bluetooth over using the radio signals (Multiband-6): - the dual time also adjusts automatically for daylight saving time if you set it up with the app. - the main time follows the time on your phone, which is convenient when you travel. You land wherever, turn airplane mode off on your phone, and once it gets a signal you push one button and your watch shows the local time. - it works in most of the inhabited world, in places where there are no radio time signals that work for Multiband-6. The downside is that you have to mess with a phone app.
I have 2 multiband G-Shocks. They drift almost one second per 24h in time if they cannot catch the frequency. My ABL-100 drifts _considerably_ less. At the moment, my last update through BT from my phone is logged to have been on 8th december, over a month ago and compared to radio-control updated GW-M5610, it is only 1 second off. It is quite accurate...
Could you explain what you mean by "inhabited world"? I live in South America, so no Multiband 6 coverage whatsoever, yet I'm interested in the ABL-100.
@@pablobaffa9610 The ABL-100 does not use Multiband-6, but a Bluetooth connection to a mobile phone which has internet access. I used "inhabited world" as a shortcut for places with enough infrastructure to have mobile phone or WiFi internet access, which is of course not everywhere (not even in the USA), but it covers much more area than the radio sync signals do. You will need a smartphone that can run Casio's "Casio Watches" app. An iPad with Wi-Fi access would work too. I visited New Zealand last year which is very far away from any Multiband-6 type signal but my Casio watch with Bluetooth kept perfect time and was able to sync in most places. It should be the same in South America.
@@pablobaffa9610 (I replied to your question before, but it did not show up) As long as you have internet access through a smartphone or tablet that can run the "Casio Watches" app you should be good. I used "inhabited world" as a shorthand for places with mobile phone/internet infrastructure. Watches like the ABL-100 connect to the app on your phone through Bluetooth, and the app provides the time information after synchronizing with time sources on the Internet. It also provides information about daylight saving time, which Chile and Paraguay do observe in summer. I visited New Zealand last year, and my Casio watch with Bluetooth had no trouble synchronizing time. It should work fine in cities and towns in South America.

I don't know the condition of the seal and since I don't use it I'm not concerned. I did love the alarm and hourly chime back when I was in college. I bought a Casio 96-H with a ten year battery. The band, made of rubber, was too stiff. It sat on my wrist with the face pointed away from my sight requiring me to have to hold it directly in front of my face or using my right hand to rotate it back into view in order to read the time so I don't wear it. I just bought an A168 for $20. This new one is $80. I have an Apple Watch for all the modern stuff. I think I’ll stick with my retro A168 for my retro vibes.
@ The step counter alone makes it worth at least $50, I just don’t need any of that from a Casio. That’s what my Apple Watch is for, but for someone who can’t afford an Apple Watch, like me when I was a kid, this Casio could be awesome.

The ultimate question about this watch is how long does the battery lasts ! Because of the bluetooth function I wonder will it last longer than a year or not.
Thanks for the Heads up!! finally, a new CASIO I REALLLY want to buy. Excellent!!! The other versions are available , e.g with a black screen, but they're just not 'right'. On the waiting list. Personally, I just prefer a normall stop watch, what are lap times for anyway? and never used a countdown. However, I use 4 alarms in the morning!!
Yeah this watch is completely sold out! You can use it as a normal stopwatch if you want. You don't have to use the lap times 😃 once you get it and play around with it, you can see how useful the lap times are
@@fatrobdoubleI know it's kind of hard to believe to be honest 😔 they came out with the first dw5600 models with LED lights instead of the El recently
@SleepyTimeAudioZzZ right, and i just ordered a DW6900-1v direct from Casio... The page still says "1v" and touts EL but they sent me a "U" model with white LEDs... Which work great (i prefer the white to the orange) and will apparently be better for battery life... And most important, the display is more crisp when the lights aren't on... But i snatched it up thinking I'd get one of the last remaining current-production EL 69ers. I think that perrennial best-sellers around $100msrp like the 5600 and 6900 will get that sort of update, but i wonder if the a168 and other more affordable watches will be phased out entirely, just to be replaced by this Casio you just reviewed?
Who can honestly say for sure 🤷 but that's a good point you bring up. I really doubt that the a168 would be discontinued though I mean Casio would have to be out of their minds 😵 but then again... They've discontinued so many epic models before. The ABL 100 is cool and all but I don't think that it can ever truly replace the a168w
The missing dual time on so many models bothered me most. I liked to use it for DST. - But I can manage without. I got a model in the old look but with little markings around the display. The black/shadowchrome one, and combined it with a rare, old safety clasp band in brass metal look.
I've got Casios with both, the LEDs are just as good or better (except for the joke of a light on the F91), won't kill your battery as quickly, and won't go to crap in 5 years. I don't understand why people want to cling to a crappy light.
I wish Casio put solar and a MECHANICAL step-tracker (NOT AN APP!) in every watch they sell, even the low end models, because it’s definitely possible today at low cost, which is partially demonstrated by the extremely inexpensive LWS-2200M that has built in 7-day step tracking.
Nice, a real watch, not one of those silly ones that has to be charged every night. Although I'd prefer it to do WiFi instead of bluetooth so it could time sync when home and not need a phone.
I can see it for gen z, along with riding a skateboard to the job they are quiet quitting. My -168W is a freak that gains 1sec per 3 mo. $17.57, 5 or 6 years ago.
I have a Casio F-108WH, I bought at Walmart in 2012 for $12 that's still going strong. And on the original battery! Mine gains 46 sec a year. I typically only wear it when I'm camping or fishing. But I've been genuinely impressed with it.
@@WatchReviewRewind Yes ironically, it's the cheapest, and the most dependable and durable watch I've ever owned. No frills workhorse, but impressive is an understatement. 🏋️♂️

Fun watch, I wonder what would happen if Casio would release a true Smartwatch in this design, to sync up with the different health aps and also being able to track your sleep patterns, that lasts 10 days straight. Well I guess it can't be this slim then.
They need to make a Pebble smartwatch clone but with the Casio style and quality. Epaper display, tactile buttons for music control, display text messages and have a reasonably long battery life, that's all a basic watch really needs. I ride motorcycles and these modern touchscreen, LCD/OLED watches make it difficult to see the screen while riding. @@shivamarya5225 The value to price ratio is great, but all cheap things are not worth buying. It's a personal preference thing. Quality > quantity.
@they're not making watches specifically for you they gotta consider their main market and then you get a higher end model, it doesnt get bluetooth yet but its metal casing
@ What?! I was convinced all companies were developing products with my personal preferences in mind. This is outrageous! :-)
You're probably right. We'll just have to wait and see what Casio comes up with.
It is super cool I had no idea but I will consider for a valentines gift for my better half. Love the review
Been wanting the classic design with a step counter for ever now. So happy they made this! Literally dream watch that became a reality.
@@Jagm177-w6o welcome back to the watch club mate 👏
This will be a perfect gift for my dad, he loves watches especially these vintage ones
I only wear Casio (don't care about smartwatches) and have done so for 40 years.

Like the new bracelet look. Need to get a beater watch sometime, like ones with solar power and Atomic time syncing.
The solar Casio G's are pretty awesome! You could probably pick one up for $100 on Amazon they go on sale all the time 😁
I had to swap the bracelet on the 168 for a cheap rubber strap immediately. I have very hairy arms and the 168 strap was unbearable with the hair pulling. Is the abl-100 better?
@ Good to know.
@@kent6732 unfortunately no, it's definitely a hair puller
This new strap is the same as the 80’s cfx 200!

I love electroluminescent not the orange light
Thanks man reminding me the childhood days.

Love the fact they have retained the drilled lugs. Fab 👍👍👍👍
Nice Piece and great functions, i would buy it and wait for a SKXmod-case in stainless steel and sapphire :-)
Oh man didn't even think about that one 😵
This is perfect! I was looking for a watch yo but for my friend as a birthday gift. Thanks for going over this, very helpful video!
Glad I could help!
I'm so glad Casio keep the important Functions without the Phone-Connection.
I hate LEGO for the big Technic-Kits where you have to use your phone and the app or otherwise it's just a big expensive plastic pile (which it already is but now also dead without the app).
Not everything has to be "smart" today, sometimes it is very calming just to be offline...
Thank you for the great video with focus on the important features!
👍
This was the biggest thing for me actually! On some Bluetooth casios you can't even set the timer normally unless you go through the app 😕 totally defeats the purpose of having a watch to have to keep pulling out your phone all the time
Hopefully they release the source for the API and firmware one day so people can upgrade and hack them.
@@Shaker626 Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. Though, there exists an open-source and hackable replacement circuit board for the F-91W (and other Casio watches that share the same movement), called Sensor Watch which has an active community around it and has useful features. Note that it doesn't have Bluetooth support.
love 80s watch that never changed the design but still love, its its its no word to say
Obviously a good watch. I stopped buying Casio digitals because,
a. Too much text around display window
Got mine in December! This is EXACTLY how I've been using it as well. It's so enjoyable
Best Casio watch who needs classic design
I got a A158W for $4 at Yodobashi in Osaka, there was a crate full of them at the till during checkout, i just grabbed one. Still going strong! (8 years)
Had no idea Casio made a watch in this form factor with bluetooth and step counting... might have to pick one up!
@@JusttheWatch Dave!! Yeah this was a JDM release back in August 2024 and it's been pretty low key since. Let me know if you can't get your hands on one and I can send you this one for review! I think everyone love to hear your thoughts on it as well 💪
@WatchReviewRewind looks like the gold version and the black version are readily available here. Silver is a little more expensive.

Love the features of this upgraded module! Cant wait to get one, so far havent been able to find one.
I think soon Casio will make another batch!
There are a few advantages of synchronizing the time with Bluetooth over using the radio signals (Multiband-6):
- the dual time also adjusts automatically for daylight saving time if you set it up with the app.
The traveling bit is really interesting 🤔 sounds really convenient! Living in Miami the Atomic signal is very hit or miss for me
I have 2 multiband G-Shocks.
@@pablobaffa9610 (I replied to your question before, but it did not show up)
As long as you have internet access through a smartphone or tablet that can run the "Casio Watches" app you should be good.
Def nostalgia feels here. Remember being very interested in digital watches even though I didn't own one nor want one.
For some of us, a big part of its retro-ness is the EL, which it no longer has. Cool watch, though. Have the original.
@@steveandkarlabolender1517 yeah I think slowly but surely Casio is getting rid of the El back lights 😭 You can see it now with the dw5600 they are now being made with the LEDs
@@WatchReviewRewindthat's exactly what they are doing. In getting rid of the EL on the 5600, Casio also improved the battery life to 5 years instead of the stated two year battery life of the 5600E.
@@WatchReviewRewind Yeah it sucks as EL is so much better, it's more uniform wheras LED has one side really bloom under the face like a cheaper watch.

I own a previous version of this model, enjoyed it for some 10 years I believe, after that the case coating had started to wear out with small tiny pieces of foil covering the case falling off but in general this watch faithfully served me long enough
The best part is that the old version is only $20 😁
@@WatchReviewRewind can't really recollect the price but right You are - it wasn't big
I still have my working Casio watch with the four buttons that I bought back in the 1970's
How did you replace the battery without ruining the water resistant seal?
@@weldonyoung1013
I stopped wearing it for decades. It was in a drawer for years. When I replaced the battery a few years ago the seal was still intact. I was surprised that it still worked. The adjustment buttons were a little stubborn but I was able to change the time and date. I put it away somewhere and can't find it right now.
My friend said he can put a leather band on it that would make it sit better on my wrist. Someday I may take him up on it.
@@weldonyoung1013
I haven't worn it for decades. A few years ago I had a button battery mutlipak from a dollar store and threw a battery in. Low and behold it still worked. I don't wear it so I'm not concerned about the seal but I seem to recall that it was still intact.
I didn´t know about this watch but now I want it.

I just bought an A168 for $20. This new one is $80.
I have an Apple Watch for all the modern stuff. I think I’ll stick with my retro A168 for my retro vibes.
Oh what the? lol I was just assuming it was going to be 25ish as well.
@ The step counter alone makes it worth at least $50, I just don’t need any of that from a Casio.
That’s what my Apple Watch is for, but for someone who can’t afford an Apple Watch, like me when I was a kid, this Casio could be awesome.
I love my A168, bought one for a friend too this holiday, she loves it. Such a classy cool retro 80’s watch, one of the best Casio’s. ElectroLuminescence blue looks better, Amber doesn’t look as nice. Rocking my Casio F-91W in green while watching this. 🤙🏼
What a great gift 💪
How many people had this watch and always tried to get the Stopwatch stop exactly at 1:00??
1 min is too much. Maybe 10s
in the era of fitness watches and bands this is definitely worth buying and i am definitely buying this one.
The ultimate question about this watch is how long does the battery lasts ! Because of the bluetooth function I wonder will it last longer than a year or not.
yeah probably a year or so ...pure crap i will never buy this
2 years according to the casio shop.
I have a 500 dollar Viictorinox that I absolutely love and have worn daily for years. Yet I still want this as well!
This would be a killer if casio put tough solar in it.The normal one could last 7 years
Thanks for the Heads up!! finally, a new CASIO I REALLLY want to buy.
You don't have to use the lap times 😃 once you get it and play around with it, you can see how useful the lap times are
it has 5 alarms
@@WatchReviewRewind any idea when the classic version will be available again?
This appears to be a rad timepiece but i will keep my a168 for sure
The A168 will always be legendary lol it's only 20 dollars!
@@WatchReviewRewind I'm a sucker for the electroluminescence. Shame they're phasing it out.
I loved the old light...
like it over all but tought they made the time digits smaller harder for people w/poor vision
The missing dual time on so many models bothered me most. I liked to use it for DST. - But I can manage without. I got a model in the old look but with little markings around the display. The black/shadowchrome one, and combined it with a rare, old safety clasp band in brass metal look.
Meh. Its not Electroluminescent.
EL backlight just uses waaaay too much power. Amber LED is much more efficient.
@@Ginoong.SimounBlacklight? I'm curious. Would that work on a digital watches? Even analog watches?
Agreed that’s a Meh!!!!
EL backlight! I missed that
I've got Casios with both, the LEDs are just as good or better (except for the joke of a light on the F91), won't kill your battery as quickly, and won't go to crap in 5 years. I don't understand why people want to cling to a crappy light.
Didn't know it existed but I like it, still maintains that classic Casio DNA while having some modern features!
Step tracking is the most useless and overrated feature ever.
That's nice but I was expecting the cutting laser and the poison darts upgrade 😁
Haha maybe for the upcoming James Bond film 😂
My wallet: Damn. Here we go again.
The old wallet taking another hit eh?
Nice, a real watch, not one of those silly ones that has to be charged every night.

@@eugene8524Armitron did steel cases for their Rubik which only costed $20. The reason why Casio makes them more expensive is more so because they know they can charge extra for it and get away with it, not because of added manufacturing cost.

I'd pay the extra for a metal body. Plastic body and steel strap makes no sense. Chromed plastic just yells 'cheap'.

The touchscreen makes it hard to switch songs while riding, especially with gloves on.
