I have 2 issues. First, the numbers can fade quite a bit if you're not looking at the display straight on. Secondly, when you activate the backlight and then change the mode, it turns the light off making you have to press the light button again. Minor issues. Still an incredible watch.
I did buy one for the multiband synching but I agree the alarm / timer sound is so quiet AND high pitched. The standard 5600E is a bit better in that regard and cheaper.
6 to 9 months battery life….Mine, in battery saver mode, stayed charged for 2 years. Left it locked in my work locker and was unexpected redeployed. When I returned, open my locker up, watch “woke up” the time and date were still correct. Thought it would be dead, but no was still keeping good time.
I had this watch and gave it to a friend. It’s a go most places md wear with most clothes. I never wore it when dressed up. My problem with it was not being able to tell time while using the timer or stopwatch without changing functions.
On this latest GW-M5610U when you're in stopwatch, timer or world time mode the current time shows in the box usually reserved for the date. I got it a few months ago and there are some nice touches, like the full city name scrolls when in world time mode and you select a city. And more importantly for me in the UK you can show DD MM date format.
I have both the old version with the EL backlight and the current U version with the LED backlight. My old one saw me through several hospital surgeries and visits and a couple of the surgeons noticed it as a great all round durable watch, everyone else ignored it and that was why I chose the watch for those occasions. My older one does not show the time in stopwatch mode or countdown but it does count the hours where the newer one does not. I'm totally fine with both but I do like to see the time in the small display in most modes. The back light is more even with the now long discontinued EL version and much easier to read after being in the dark for a while, the LED light on the U version is brighter but less even but both are great. The mineral glass on both being shrouded by the bezel is very well protected so it should should the test of time very well and is very clear. It's not a dress watch for some formal occasions but the full metal 5000's cover that very well.
As far as wearability goes for suits I see a lot of people wearing these days smart watches with suits. If that’s acceptable, then a square should be acceptable. I’ve never owned, and never will own, simply refuse to buy or wear, a smart watch. Great video my friend!
I picked up the Jay and Kay adapters for mine. While they’re not perfect.. the down angle is a bit steep.. they’re well made, solid, trustworthy and I can add any comfy 22mm rubber or silicone strap I like. I understand this defeats one of the impact ratings .. but honestly I don’t care. The OEM strap I find uncomfortable. So I’m ok sacrificing some impact resistance for comfort. I have a couple Fkm rubber straps that look wicked. Now if I could just mod that light pusher …
I got this watch a couple of months ago and it (almost nevever) left my wrist ever since. You forgot to mention how easy it is to modify to your liking. For me it is a solid 10/10 for a cool, casual, everyday banger 👍🏻👍🏻
This watch has probably one of the longest honeymoon periods! Mine lasted like 6 months of everyday wear (minus formal occasions) but still... must have for any collection
Great video, this is a nice watch. I have two squares, the GMW-B5000D-1ER which is a full metal version, but it's on the heavier side. Then I bought the GW-5000U which is very confortable, the resin is very flexible, I think it's different compared to my other resin g-shocks. The dial is not that colorful but I like the metal case and caseback, the functions are the same with this version you presented. I know it's more expensive, but the materials are different, and the metal case Is more durable.
Very strongly considering getting the 5000U for the metal case and the upgraded materials! It's been hard to justify just because it's essentially the same module as the 5610 but I've heard the experience and feel is completely different. How do you like thee full metal version in comparison?
@WatchReviewRewind Yes, you are right, it's all about the materials, this higher end ones are also made in Japan, adding to the costs. The MR-G series costs thousands, the module is almost the same, but gold is used in the module, it is manually assembled and finished. I like the full metal version, the display is using STN technology, very legible. On the other side, just like with any polished metal watch, you will have to deal with more visible scratches. It's a more heavier watch. If you have a smaller wrist, you have to consider the fact that the end links are almost fixed, increasing the lug to lug dimension.
I'll try and get my hands on a full metal, but what you mentioned about the fixed lugs is one of the biggest reasons i've considered the 5000U instead. Enjoy both of your watches mate! thanks for the feedback!
The real flaw is that you forget about your other watches. Really though, the buttons make the user interface a pain to use. Especially if you have another gshock like the gd350 and will time things regularly. I always say, the 5610 is easy to wear every day, the gd350 is easy to use every day.
I totally agree with everything you have said except the visibility, it's perfect looking straight on but when you angle the watch a little away you lose the visibility, which happens to a lot of Casio watches but not all.
G-SHOCK SPORTS GBD-200 with the MIP is amazing. And the resin is even better... only con is it's NOT solar. TBH if they updated the 5610 giving it a MIP display and a step counter... that would be perfect.
I fell in love with gshock for sure but the analog ones are so awesome to me because they are 20 bar and quartz with a motherboard and so futuristic but maintaining the classic analog dials. a true time machine.
I have a 5600 and I honestly don't wear it as much as I'd had hope because of those recessed buttons. I get what they were trying to do, but it's completely unnecessary. If they had them all stick out a little bit more and made it easier to push, it would still be protected. In comparison, my 1500 us enormous and the buttons stick WAY out and I've never hit them or accidentally changed a mode or anything. Casio can instantly make that line better by putting regular buttons on it. Just my thoughts.
I wear a G902 GMW-B5000GD-9D R G-shock... to my outdoor projects as well as board meetings.... It always becomes a subject of conversation... The watch even beats a gold plated Rolex. 😁 🙏
I love that watch, and with the steel bracelets and cases (silver and black) from aliexpress it’s dressy as hell. But I have to admit that the metal Casioak GBM-2100 that I bought two months ago is my favorite G-Shock at the moment, also great on 6 inch wrists. And the Alarm sound ist better on the Casioak, the high pitched and too quiet alarm on the 5610 is almost inaudible to my old ears.
You Should try the MR-G B5000B-01. It's the ultimate watch. After owning 4 Rolex and Omega and a ton of others, the MRG B5000B-01 the the black beauty. I just picked up a "McFly" (actually a "Breaking Bad"--the McFly is an older model) CA-53W. It's the third one I've ever owned, and I love it. It looks almost (but not quite) snappy enough to wear with a suit. The only things I wish I could change: add a countdown timer, and add the choice for the home screen to show the date or the day of the week. And of course, an EL backlight.
I'm partial to the 5000U for its even more muted look, but I wouldn't wear it in any formal situation. The number of watches at relatively low prices that DO fit those situations, that's a growing list that gets ever more impressive.
@@WatchReviewRewind The strap is incredibly soft and flexible, I'm able to wear it one size-hole looser because of the general grippiness of the material, so it doesn't slide around. I mainly got it for the steel case in a 'buy it for life' frame of mind. The screwdown caseback is polished and feels smooth against the wrist. I like the baby blue colored LED backlight, very subtle and easy to read in the dark. I think the metal squares use something like 5 total backlights - this appears to have 1 and does a great job.
@@Samuraiprojects mannnn that sounds great if I'm being honest. I read somewhere that the steel case module has additional protection from shocks because they added more layers of rubber as well. I wouldn't use it in a job interview, though: it is quite casual looking, and would give a slight ill-educated vibe if paired with a suit imo
I have about a 6 inch wrist and this GShock just about fits but I found the plastic strap very uncomfortable, particularly the ridges close to the watch. I got a combi bracelet from AliExpress which made all the difference for a comfortable fit. I love this watch but agree that I wouldn't wear it in any sort of formal setting.
@@WatchReviewRewind I haven't had it long but it seems ok and is really comfortable. There are 2 types on AliX and after reading the reviews I went for the more expensive one. At around £16 it's expensive for a mostly plastic bracelet but it's easily sized with spring bars for each link and feels sturdy enough. Excellent video. I just subscribed to your channel. I put a little thumb up. I bought mine two years ago. It's a special 'blued' edition for the JDM. I had to use a proxy to get it. Do I have to put my watch near the window in direction to the south west or it doesn't make any difference. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Thank you for that! And I'm my experience, I don't think the direction matters, it's more about the location where you place your watch. Windows are great, just make sure there are no electronic devices near the watch because they can cause interference with the radio waves
@WatchReviewRewind thanks bud, good video, new subscriber. I tried the v1 combi but im going for the v2 combi for lighter weight, and i kinda like the look better
*Why is it that not a single RUclipsr mentions the useless alarm on the Casio M5610U (all caps: USELESS)?* What’s the point of having a digital watch even with Radio sync & Solar if the alarm is so quiet you can’t hear it even while you’re awake? It definitely won’t wake you up while you’re sleeping, maybe the snoozeable one might, after six attempts. Why does the illumination turn off when any button is pressed? Why is there only one snoozeable alarm? Good luck finding the button to shut it down when it goes off. Why aren’t there settings for WEEKDAY and WEEKEND alarms? Why can the hour chime be automatically silenced from 11:00 PM until the morning alarm? And why hasn’t an effective vibrate feature been added to this watch? *If they included these features, you’d have THE ONLY WATCH YOU NEED!*
Good point on the alarm! I have an actual alarm clock which is unbearably loud 📢 but definitely the 5600 is slightly louder than this model. They used a different paraelectric speaker on these I believe
@@WatchReviewRewind Agreed, I would use the alarm and timer function a lot more if I could easily operate the button while still on my wrist. I have another cheaper casio I was going to take one of the longer buttons off that and swap it, but its way too far down on the list of things to do, lol.
My Timex Expedition T49851 (which cost just $35 at the time) is more of a tool watch than all the $100-range G-Shocks combined-that’s a fact. It’s spent more time on my wrist than any other watch, including the Casio M5610U, which I regret buying. There’s no need for nails to press the buttons; it has a vibration alarm strong enough to wake the dead, plus weekday/weekend alarms - all snoozeable, a repeatable timer, a hydration reminder, and even an occasion reminder. Too bad Timex decided to discontinue it, and old stock is hard to find.
I have one of these for years and if I wore it 10 times I would be shocked. Nothing bad about the watch but I just don't like digital, one has to actually read the time and with an analogue I guess it's more of a pattern recognition with a quick glance. Anyway, the perfect watch for me, that btw killed my watch collecting thing, is the Citizen Tough. My happens to be a special RMC edition but regular models of that time or older (slimmer) are just perfect: their size, weight, titanium hard, solar, 200m or 300m WR, highly legible, not bling but also not a rubbish boutique watch that someone into watches will appreciate. It is to me what a Gshock is to most Gshock lovers. I would love to have another similar watch to rotate but there's the problem, I never found one.
Yeah, in formal circumstances this watch would stick out like a sore thumb. Unless you wanna project that "I don't give an f" vibe, you better pick something else. There are g-shocks you could kinda, sorta get away with in a suit, but it's not this one. It is a great watch though, no doubt about it.
I actually don't like it at all. First, it's very easy to scratch it, no comparison with sapphire at all. They protect it by keeping face of the watch deep, but it makes it hard to clean. It's a fingerprint magnet. Somehow this watch is always the dirtiest of all my watches. What's the worst - radio sync used to be working fine but randomly stopped. Only way to keep it in sync is through bluetooth connection with the phone, but you need this annoying Casio app for that.
From my experience with the watch, i find it extremely comfortable and the only real downside is the weak alarm
I have 2 issues. First, the numbers can fade quite a bit if you're not looking at the display straight on. Secondly, when you activate the backlight and then change the mode, it turns the light off making you have to press the light button again. Minor issues. Still an incredible watch.

*If they included these features, you’d have THE ONLY WATCH YOU NEED!*
many interesting points. Some other casios don't have those problems.
Good point on the alarm! I have an actual alarm clock which is unbearably loud 📢 but definitely the 5600 is slightly louder than this model. They used a different paraelectric speaker on these I believe
5 button > 4 button. There. I said it. Choose model accordingly.
Sorry to shatter your theory, but I have a 6 3/4 inch wrist and wear in the 8th or 9th notch.
I got watch strap adapters so I can put a non-shitty band on it.
Before even seeing this video: what is the smallest G-shock? My wrist is 15.5 cm? Is there a G-shock for a small wrist?
Smallest? I would say maybe a "Baby G". I think they're meant for females, but honestly this G-Shock will fit your wrist just fine
The GMD-S5600 is basically the same watch but smaller.
G-Shock titanium square for wearing suits!
I'm going to guess it's the upper left button that is difficult to operate.
On the DW5600 yes! Which is a bummer since that's the reset for the timer/stopwatch. But on the 5610 all the buttons are easier to press!
Too bad Timex decided to discontinue it, and old stock is hard to find.
vibration alarm is always interesting
I have a G-Shock MTG-B3000 and a titanium square G-Shock, like all my G-Shock watches.
Bro plz review the gshock gmw b5000 full metal (Gold colour) plz reply
I'll definitely try and get my hands on one! 😁
There’s plenty of reviews of that watch online…
Yeah, in formal circumstances this watch would stick out like a sore thumb. Unless you wanna project that "I don't give an f" vibe, you better pick something else. There are g-shocks you could kinda, sorta get away with in a suit, but it's not this one. It is a great watch though, no doubt about it.
How many years use this g shock? 🙄
Que?
I've had this one for just a little over 3 years! Absolutely amazing watch
@@WatchReviewRewind oh nice thank you 🥰. My watch gshock 5600ue 1dr solar watch. Not atomic time
Why do you need so many watches?
I actually don't like it at all. First, it's very easy to scratch it, no comparison with sapphire at all. They protect it by keeping face of the watch deep, but it makes it hard to clean. It's a fingerprint magnet. Somehow this watch is always the dirtiest of all my watches. What's the worst - radio sync used to be working fine but randomly stopped. Only way to keep it in sync is through bluetooth connection with the phone, but you need this annoying Casio app for that.
Stop wasting my time. Stop rambling.
