So happy I discovered your channel Jake. You make learning, and following the plant hobby so fun and entertaining! I’ve been doing most of my plants in semi hydro since it decreases my chances of getting root rot, by taking the guess work out of watering. May I ask you a couple questions? You’re essentially using a semi hydro medium there, but that moss really stresses me OUT, because thrips/pests love it so much! Also, Ive always been told that mixing organic matter (moss) with inert (LECA) would cause rot. 1. It doesn’t? Also, 2. why not most use LECA alone? Set it and forget it?! 3. What are the yellow/orange spots on your leaves? I get that too, and wonder what I’m doing to cause this. Thanks so much Jane! Gonna check out your music channel too!
I use moss with a leca reservoir base for most of my plants and personally haven’t noticed any more pests or rot than plants in other substrates. I don’t use all leca anymore because it would dry out too quickly and stress my plants’ roots. Moss retains more moisture and for a longer period of time so I can water less often. Yellow spots on leaves are signs of stress since they appear if I am not watering my anthurium enough or watering too much. Usually it is a byproduct of a stressed root system that might have some rot. Mr Triangle is VERY hardy and I tend to push him to his limits and forget to water him as much as he would like. 😅
Love your energy. Bet those plant babies are going to be loving life. Never thought about more density on the top of the substrate but that makes so much sense. Thank you for sharing “they can approach dryness” - I was keeping mine too moist for too long. Smart to leave the air gap for the cut. You’re amazing!!!
