Cool truck! As everyone else has opined,it's a shame to separate the camper and truck.Probably not see another combo like that for the rest of your life.
Young man, at a glance it looks like this truck was loved and cared for by someone and that's a terrific start. As nice as it is, there are no guarantees that it wasn't parked with some unresolved problem. So, make no assumptions that everything works and tip-toe up to bringing that engine back to life. Prelube everything you can prelube, particularly those cylinders because I see plenty of evidence that this has been out in a humid environment and that means condensation and condensation means corrosion. Without any additional information I'd suggest doing just what you're doing. One of my favorite declarations is - DO THE WORK. In this case, doing the work means you'll have to inspect, clean, lube, reassemble, then run it and see what kind of compression you're getting. Best of luck to you!
Dude you have to keep that camper with the truck. They were built for each other. I get it if you want to take it off and use the truck, but don't get rid of it! You said you were having a kid, then even more reason to have a camper!
That is a once in a lifetime find! And an absolute UNIT of a rig. If it were me, engine-out rebuild and complete mechanical restoration, but I'd keep it as close to origin as possible in appearance. Anywhere you go you'll turn heads with that one, most folks will have never seen anything like it
It’s no loss, I believe that you’ll get it to free up soon and it’ll become a great rig, keep that camper, you’ll really enjoy it on weekends and trips.
Nice truck... always loved the apache grill, headlight's and hood on that model. Rebuild the motor, save yourself some aggravation, all that rust from sitting will come back to haunt you once you some get oil pressure, and the lifter's looked like they had zero wear, not even run to break in the cam, and no oil in the crankcase, and loose plugs, you kinda gotto wonder, but hell l've been wrong before too, so lol. Good luck whatever you decide, shes a beauty.
Edward, I just stumbled across your channel, enjoyed this episode! Great find in that '59 Chevy Truck! I'm a Ford Guy, but do love these old Classic's! Like your Channel, Subscribed, hoping you do a "Part 2" on this!
If I'm in that deep already I would just go ahead and rebuild the engine and know it's going to run and everything is new . 402 big block is a great engine . I'd get with holley performance to see if they would sponsor you along with other parts manufacturers.
HI EDWARD--THAINE,, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! GIFT,,, WOW.. THIS IS A GREAT TRUCK,, MAX 9 YR.S OLD LOVES THAT GRILL WE BOTH LIKE THE COLOR, THE ENGINE COLOR AND FIRE WALL..AND THE INSIDE DASH.. LOTS OF WIRES?? I THOUGHT YOU WOULD SOAK THE ENGINE WITH TRANS FLUID FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS ?? HOPE TO SEE PART TWO,, THX. GUYS...
Don’t sell that camper!! Store it under a cover and keep the critters out of it, sure…but before you know it, that little baby will be a little kid who’ll cherish the memories of camping with his dad in a classic setup!
Don’t sell the camper. The Napco is cool, but an old school overlanding service bed pop top truck is what makes it. Its like buying a factory 68 Camaro 4-speed and making it automatic because you don’t want to shift gears
Man I’d keep that camper. But still a cool truck either way. That big block looks like it’s out of a 67-72 truck with the ac stuff on the passenger side.
Well it appears as though this truck would be a keeper even if the engine was trash. However get it torn down (and mark your parts incase they can be reused. Especially camshaft and lifters. The engine may require major machine work and then again it may not. Be interested to see your next video on this one. 1959 was the last year on the Taskmaster style cabs (1955 2nd series until 1959)🥸👍👍👍👍👍
It's going to be very low geared.. Should be around 5:38 - 1 gears. 3/4 tons were 4:56 - 1 gears. Halftons were 3:90 - 1 gears. I own a 57 Napco equipped 3100 and 2 spare front axles and one extra transfer case. I have the factory repair manuals and dealer sales book showing 1957 was the first year for Factory installation of the same equipment Napco sold. Biggest difference is the front axles from GM had real GM brakes. Also the shifter for the factory installed transfer cases is the same lever used in the semi tractors to operate the clutch inside the tranfer cases for dual drive rear axles.
Just an FYI, if you did not keep track of which lifter bores the lifters came from, you will have to brake the cam in again. The engine itself looks great. I am anxious to see the heads tho~ Regards from Ody Slim
Any looking for parts, look to classic truck rescue. These people are in Washington state and he knows a lot about your truck and all of the similar ones. He and his wife have quite a lot of them and associated parts. If you want part's give him a shout. I'm an Englishman and know my geography but not the prices you'd have to pay to get them posted to you or parceled up to anywhere in the US especially the the mainland 49 states. Ive followed him and his wife for some time since they moved to their present land.
Too much heat weakens spring tension. Don't give up on that engine so easy. Put a flywheel wrench on it. That will power thru ring ridges. Take the heads off, and/or fill the cylinders with lubricant. Well, now you have to go to plan B. I watch a lot of guys in here who would have easily gotten that turning over. Good luck.
From 99166, Make it run, drive & stop, Then talk trade for my 66 C10 panel delivery / 4x4 daily driver. 342 gears, 350 v8, T400 tranny, Borge warner gear drive with twin stick. Dana 44 disc brake ft, 12 bolt possi rear. Power steering.. I understand conversions. No matter how cool, Your value 100% relies on usable Gear Ratio. Sadly Napco 1 tons used 488 gears religiously making a 45 mph street legal Tractor. However, with a Clark 5 ton granny 5 speed, you could cruise comfortably at 55. That with a 402 would pull down a large building.
that also could have come from the factory with a 283 or 348 v8 a fancy one like that probably was a 348 truck 40 years ago i had a 60 3/4 ton with a 348 4 speed man trans about 8 mpg
Whybisnt it hooked up? It probably never was ...someone tried to engine swap it and gave up when it came to all the little stuff, obvious it has not been run since it was painted.
Put some Marvel Mystery Island the cylinders or transmission fluid something the Rings are probably stuck on the Pistons and then spray down all of the top end soak it even pour some Marvel Mystery Oil on that stuff and let it sit for a little bit
You said what you were, a rookie. You're too anxious and in my opinion which doesn't mean a thing, doing everything bass akwards. Slow down use common sense, you have a diamond in the rough here and I'm afraid you're going to screw it up. Listen to your old man, ask him before you do any thing, I'll keep checking back for part 2. Sorry but, I'm just calling a spade when I see one.
What a shame to separate that camper from that beautiful truck man.. but it's yours I could never do it.... that thing is insane I love it
Cool rig. I wouldn’t separate the camper from the box. It is a great combination and rather valuable to the right person.
Cheers
I agree that combo is irreplaceable, the insides looks decent, you will be sorry.
I see a 6 BT swap in my head 😎
Too cool! Love this truck! Can't wait for part 2
This truck is a piece of American history.
It should end up in a museum, someday.
I subscribe because this looks like a good channel.
Super cool love the Napco 4x4
This truck is insanely cool like this is a score most can only dream of. it really checks all the boxes for old big truck enthusiasts.
Cool truck! As everyone else has opined,it's a shame to separate the camper and truck.Probably not see another combo like that for the rest of your life.
Awesome rig
Lord Jeebus a NAPCO!!! Soooo jealous, well done!
My favorite truck!
1959 chevy! Napco and a service body camper!
I would love to find one of those!

Awesome find young man !!!!! May the new year bring yall blessings overflowing
Wow. What a find.
Nice find. That camper is a very sought after and vintage.
Definitely a dream truck I have always liked the style of the Chevy apache
Nice truck... always loved the apache grill, headlight's and hood on that model. Nice don't stop there bring us with you on this journey .
Nice truck
I have a stock short bed 59...also have a 2 ton GMC Napco...extremely rare. Vehicles you leave to your children....
Edward, I just stumbled across your channel, enjoyed this episode! Great find in that '59 Chevy Truck! I'm a Ford Guy, but do love these old Classic's! Like your Channel, Subscribed, hoping you do a "Part 2" on this!
keep the camper attached. you wont find another one like this
Awesome truck
Great video! I’m glad Steve is getting his cars done
looks like someone already restored it very clean
I wouldn’t separate the camper from the truck bad juju in my book.
Stick a stick and get as much of that clotty oil out while you have some flow? The inside cab is Beautiful. I sit in it all day long and admire it!
Great truck. I had a 1959 1/2 ton GMC with a 312 CU straight 6
Looking forward to part 2
👍 Great vid!! 👍
omg dude what a find!!!!
Love that truck you have!!!
I'll take it like it is!!!! It's perfect!
If I'm in that deep already I would just go ahead and rebuild the engine and know it's going to run and everything is new . 402 big block is a great engine . I'd get with holley performance to see if they would sponsor you along with other parts manufacturers.
i have a 4x4 with the weepy seepy hubs like that , put john deere corn head grease in there instead of gear oil , so far so good
HI EDWARD--THAINE,, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! GUYS...
Thanks Ronald, great to hear from you and Max. Part 2 will be out shortly, happy new year!

Awesome video! I’m really looking forward to your progress! Great truck! Happy New Year!
Thank you! Happy new year!
That motor ain't toast, ya just got to work it and put some Mystery juice in it to help free it and work it some more. Don't give up so easy.
Man I’d keep that camper. But still a cool truck either way. That big block looks like it’s out of a 67-72 truck with the ac stuff on the passenger side.

With all the stuff not hooked up along with all the loose ,no oil and no antifreeze I would say they put that motor in and never got it running
I will take the 402 and the camper please!
Why don't you add mystery oil inside the cylinders and let it sit a couple of days instead of being in a hurry to spin the engine and brake the rings
I am in the market for an Alaskan Camper. Where is it located? Cool rig, I actually would keep the camper on there.

Ive followed him and his wife for some time since they moved to their present land.
Jeez, is that a big block??
want more on this one
Hello Great video. I have a 1965 k10 K is in the vin it's not a napco
That thing is sweet! How much did you get it for?
Too much heat weakens spring tension.
Don't give up on that engine so easy. Put a flywheel wrench on it. That will power thru ring ridges. Take the heads off, and/or fill the cylinders with lubricant.
Well, now you have to go to plan B. I watch a lot of guys in here who would have easily gotten that turning over. Good luck.
I have a 1956 GMC napco it has its original Buick 317 v8
That camper makes the truck
Keep the camper intact that unit will bring good money if you decide to sell it
Don't get heat in your springs unless your replacing them
I would think that’s a fresh rebuild not long before it was parked

Mr. Thaine I am interested in it.
I could start my channel with the camper and the Blown BBC
Liquid Wrench may help free that stuck valve.
It just needs one valve and you can put it back together 402s are good and powerful
that also could have come from the factory with a 283 or 348 v8 a fancy one like that probably was a 348 truck 40 years ago i had a 60 3/4 ton with a 348 4 speed man trans about 8 mpg
Parking vehicles in the trees kills them . They fill full of leaves and dirt then hold moisture.
Whybisnt it hooked up? It probably never was ...someone tried to engine swap it and gave up when it came to all the little stuff, obvious it has not been run since it was painted.
I own a 1959 Apache 38 one ton. But it is a licensed car hauler. 2 wheel drive. Make a good parts truck if anyone is looking for one.
subscribed
I could sit in it and sit at awwh
Put some marvel mistery oil in cylinders and let it soak
Why does it have a compressor??
For tires and the air horn, pretty sweet!
I think the brackets rivited to the front crossmember make it a v8 truck
I will take the 402 also please 🥺
Put some Marvel Mystery Island the cylinders or transmission fluid something the Rings are probably stuck on the Pistons and then spray down all of the top end soak it even pour some Marvel Mystery Oil on that stuff and let it sit for a little bit
Indeed restõrê thê ołd łàdy
😎💯✌
Buys dream truck,
Instantly starts bastardising it.
😢
You’re ruining it by taking that camper off. The utility bed/camper combo is what makes that truck what it is.
292 CI
6 cylinder
If its a "Big block" it should be a 409, the 402 was not a thing for another 10 years.
Wish it was a crew cab
Wouldn't that be sweet!
There's just rust on the cylinder walls man I guarantee it
NORTH American Parts Co.
Should have pulled the heads first
