- Can't sign in to your Microsoft account or reset your password? If you haven't set up two-step verification, here's how you can recover it.
1. Go to aka.ms/accountrecovery
2. Enter the account you want to recover, email address you have access to, and enter the CAPTCHA and select Next
3. Enter the code sent via the email you provided and select Verify
4. Enter your account recovery information and select Next

The worst part is that you cannot even speak to anyone or chat about account recovery, the only option you have is to fill out a form that leads to nowhere. How is the end user supposed to know what subject line they used on an e-mail 5+ years ago? The "security" questions don't even make sense from a security standpoint.
Even Amazon customer service has staff ready to assist with locked/suspended accounts at any given time.
i currently CANNOT log in to my pc because microsoft forces me to use hotmail to login for whatever ungodly reason and there is literally nothing i can do to log in, this service sucks and my week is ruined

This method does not work. I've had an hotmail account for 20 years and forgot my password and filled out the forms over and over again for days. I just get email rejecting access to my account.No live person to talk to either. So frustrating! 20 years of photo's and emails of family and friends and some who passed away to never be seen ever again. Thanks Microsoft. Sad!

I’ve been doing this for 4 months and my brother is being charged for Xbox live, we’ve spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars and 5 years of gaming. The Xbox was my only entertainment that actually made me happy but all the Microsoft workers always tell me to re do the form, me and my brothers sat down for hours trying to get it back but only to see the “unfortunately you didn’t provide enough information” I’m tired of spending so much time trying to recover my account, the verifications don’t work either and you guys are no help. Its been 6 years since my account was first locked for suspicious activity, and i have been trying to get back in all this time and im still locked. I played a game that i put lots of time on and it is really sad to have to let it all go and switch platforms. The account recovery system is extremely flawed and does not help at all… This sucks

Many people are complaining about this big issue. Many people have connected their email accounts to their X-box account or other places.
You have to create another way in the future about this big issue. Focusing on 'What to do if you can't pass the questions test' instead of creating a new mail and losing ALL your private stuff 😞
In the future there should come 2 ways of getting your email password:
1) Answer the questions X times (maybe 5 to 8 times). If you can't pass the questions tests then;
2) The owner of the account must name some DEEP SUBJECTS what's on their email recently or from some time ago (Back-up plan!!) Some random stuff like: Sentences, words, subjects, passwords, enclosed documents etc...
Hopefully it's possible. Ok... after a week I've passed the questions tests with LUCK. But every day I had sleepless nights... thinking of losing my account and every site i was a member of😣. Kind of in a dip depression mode with a lot of stress. That's no fun at all!
Please come to another solution if people can't pass the questions tests in the the future.

You can literally use two-step verification or specific questions to get the password back but no, you have to fill out this form 3+ times (if you're lucky) to get your password back
oh boi ive filled it out 5 times and no luck
I have filled out this form every day twice a day for 74 days with 100% of my information correct and denied every time. i have my personal info, the last 4 sent email contacts and the subject lines (my mail app was "frozen" my 28th but i can still see all sent/received emails.) The current and only other password ever used on the account (had them written down) and the payment info used on the account. Its despicable and insane that microsoft is allowing LOYAL customers to lose their lives basically.. the paperless statements and bills and appointments and contact with my kids school and my banking and credit accounts and every other account you can get over 9 years. a real joke microsoft is.

Hello, i have problem. I am trying to log in my minecraft account in my phone. when i try to set my account, it sends me to a website named login.live. But the site's dns adress is not found. what am i supposed to do?
I have done exactly as instructed here several times, to no avail. The response I always get says the information I give is insufficient but no explanation is given as to why. All the customer care phone numbers are useless. It's all recorded messages which are no help and you never get to speak to an actual person.

I’ve had my Xbox account for YEARS and have been doing the recovery forms for a while (literally dozens upon dozens of them). The email used is my dads email but he died last year and was the only one who MIGHT have known the password. All of his saves and game history is on this account and I don’t know what I’d do if I lost it because your guys recovery system f*cking sucks.
Just get rid of your Xbox and switch on over to Playstation. I was doing the recovery forum for months, then I talked to a real person. With all of the information I gave them, it still said that we can't find you to be the account owner. So I happily switched over to Playstatio, and sold any games that I had with the Xbox.

Account recovery is useless. Don’t have my number, how am I meant to know my last sent emails or last received if i can’t log in and with the Xbox questions it tells me my console id is invalid nor can I use my card because I have a new one. They really made the account recovery impossible for people signing in after a few years. They also locked me out of my main Xbox account with like 500 buck worth of digital games

Well, since the account is on Xbox, I keep getting the message asking for my password. Which I don't remember since it was never brought up and I was instantly signed in until now.
No, I had a whole change with my security information that was on that account.

I've had an XBox Series X since December and everything was fine up to a few days ago when it wouldn't allow me to sign into my XBox Live account.
It said I should go to XBox's support site and when I try to log in there I get the message "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later. The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again." making it impossible to even contact anyone beyond the Virtual Support which doesn't offer anything remotely related to my issue. I can't even get the site to set up a call for support.

I have no access to my account at all because when I try to log in it keeps asking me to approve request through the microsoft authenticator app, but I can’t access that as well because it’s asking to approve request from the app where those requests come to. I love how Microsoft stopped responding to comments because everyone is having the same issues (ie can't reset password because they "don't have enough information"). I just got a new phone, and of course, am having the same issue. Tried lime 20 old passwords and not a single one was "right". I guess I have to make a new email, change all my login information on EVERYTHING because literally no one from Microsoft is going to help. And screw that stupid form. It doesn't do crap.
I don't know what's taking so long. I gave them proof and a bunch of information that I was the account owner, and it said we found you to be the account owner, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'm waiting on them to unlock my account 😒

I do not know the username or password.. it seems like as long as my account is tied to my phone number and email there is no way to ever access it, therefore I am permanently locked out of the new computer I just bought. (Theyre trying to steal your info is my guess) 2, go to twitter and contact microsoft support through DMs. 3, go to microsoft community and say that your account has been locked, etc. Someone will answer your question and then they will probably take it into private messages. Imo i think microsoft community helped more. When you do get ur acc back, change your security info and everything, for me someone hacked into my skype so i detached that from my main account (once you get your account back, contact live support for skype and do this) All in all, it took me just over a month to get my account back which isnt bad since some have had theirs locked for a year/multiple months.

I have a huge problem with my microsoft account - i somehow have 2 profiles with the exact same email and password, but when i log into the account with the password it takes me to the second one - and the problem is is that my first account(original) owns minecraft, but the second one (which it redirects me to) does not own minecraft java and is asking me to buy it!!
