    You are gooooood! I am a professionnal voice over artist. I am the french Canadian movie trailer guy. For years I worked on my "In a world" tone. After a while, without noticing it I got stuck there as my regular voice. I litteraly got sooo hoarse I had to see a speach therapist to get back in shape. What you teach here is excellent! Really! Thanks :-)

    Thank you Spenser. I never realized that i was off my optimized pitch, and that humming helped me with that. its now easy for me to engage my breathing muscles for better singing because now i know the sensacion of the correct sounds i should make. I was always lacking some vibrancy in my sound. Now i see the harm i do to myself, why my voice sounds like Im holding back and why some times people dont understand me. Its the end of vocal fry deeper voice 90s David, now its the time for correct tone better Singer David. This video was what I needed. Thank you so much. Great work. And you are funny.

    The “mhm”ing is so useful! I’m a voice and piano teach so I get tired a lot. My college professor used to tell me that I should speak how I sing but I just had trouble not sounding like a condescending idiot while using my sing songy voice. This method helps me get into the same space I sing from so it’s much easier for me to sustain! Thank you :)

      Teachers are particularly at risk of losing their voice due their schedules and vocal demands, so that's wonderful that you are taking your speaking voice just as seriously as your singing.

      Mr. Carrey, I never took you for a mumbler in your movies 😉I might get around to making a video about enunciation at some point. I have a long list of topics I have to get through before that though.
      For now, my suggestion would be to practice slowly reading a book out loud, while you record yourself (on your phone will work perfectly well.) Practice over-enunciating each word as you read. Say each consonant and vowel slowly and purposefully, and exaggerate it more than you think it necessary.
      Read and record one paragraph and then listen back. Are all your words clearly understood? If not, slow down and exaggerate further. Then slowly start reading that paragraph more quickly, while still over-enunciating. Eventually, you might want to join a Toastmasters in your area to practice speaking clearly. Good luck!

    This video is a game changer! I'm a female speaking at the bottom range if my voice, so always mistaken for a man on the phone. This helped me in realizing I needed to let more air in my throat. I sound much more pleasant, but it's going to take some work because I'm 58.

    I think I overdue it too much. I speak a lot and feel that strain in my throat and it gets worse. Do you have videos to help train your vocals for prolonged speaking?

    • @SpencerWelchVocalStudio
      @SpencerWelchVocalStudio  5 лет назад +2

      So far this is the first video I've made regarding healthy speaking tips, but I plan to make one about how to develop resonance in your speaking. Speaking at your optimum pitch with prosody (as covered in this video) definitely helps, as well as resonance development. Finally, I would train with the exercises in my "7-Minute Mix Voice Workout" since these develop the voice for both singing and speaking.

    If you are a teachers teacher then who teaches you or how do you know any of this stuff without someone teaching you?

    • @SpencerWelchVocalStudio
      @SpencerWelchVocalStudio  5 лет назад +3

      Great question! I like to say: "Always be a teacher. Always be a student." I studied with a great voice teacher in Hollywood for 17 years, where I learned so much about my own voice as well as about how to teach others how to sing. I continue to take lessons, read books and journals about singing and voice science, and attend conferences. I am constantly educating myself to make sure I am growing. When you teach teachers, you need to keep filling the well that you are sharing from.

  • @jeremygrant6834
    @jeremygrant6834 5 лет назад +1

    Very good but I have to say I notice in your talking your projection is over shot I guarantee your hurting your chords making these vids. Performing is all about tapping into your emotional intent and being aware of how it’s received, your concentration is forcing you to catch up with the info your teaching. Maybe try applying some acting theory you’ll notice in movies they always whisper but they have composure due to the character. I learnt this teaching and it helped with my performing a lot. On a scale I’d say I teach at a 4 out of ten your at a 9

    • @SpencerWelchVocalStudio
      @SpencerWelchVocalStudio  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your feedback. I'm always looking to refine and improve upon my delivery in these videos, so I will keep in mind what you said about acting theory. However, I have to push back on a couple things. I don't know what your qualifications are, but saying "I guarantee you're hurting your chords (sic)" is a pretty big assumption. To "guarantee" that, you would need an ENT on hand to scope my vocal cords right after I finished recording a video. Everyone has different recovery rates after vocal exertion, which is why, in 25 years of teaching, I've never made blanket statements like that. Top voice scientists and ENTs won't guarantee that a particular vocal behavior is harmful. And the truth is these videos don't hurt my voice because I'm aware of my limits.
      I'm not a film actor, but from my experience, filming a RUclips video is very different from filming a movie or teaching live in a classroom. In a YT video, you only have 5-10 minutes to capture and hold your audience's attention on a platform where a million other videos are just a click away. I've experimented with different energy levels in my vocal and physical performance and found that this level maintains engagement. I can track it in the analytics. It may not be what everyone prefers, which I totally get. I will take to heart your feedback and see how I can continue to refine my delivery. Thanks for subscribing, and I hope I can add more value to what you're looking for in your singing and speaking.

      @@SpencerWelchVocalStudio yes i agree in part the main thing is if your happy with how your sounding then go for it but less is always more and liie a melody dominant sounds should be used to correctly. Language is hard to formulate but if its melodic its delicious. Watching your vds i feel like its one long chorus but good info check out bohemian vocal studio his got a very relaxed sound but still lacks melody and rhythm. I use to read alot of poetry as practice
