This is where it's at Doug. I don't go for the review vids so much, design taste being so individually subjective, but your techniques for shaping and maintenance are really second to none.
Doug, that tool and advise is everything. I have learned more from your channel than any other RUclips videos about maintaining and keeping fitted caps in shape. For me, reducing the wrinkles and lack of asymmetry between the crown height, back panel and profiles to ensure a rounded fit is a big challenge with fitted caps, and the tool resolves this. Keep it going.
ive had success stuffing the hat with a tshirt, applying spray starch and ironing. keeps the shape for a long while, does require reapplication as im bald so the shape eventually goes wonky

Your channel is so Underrated. You were one of the first to ever make instructional videos on shaping hats and using different techniques if not the first I’ve seen. Although there’s other people making videos on curbing the brim I still come back to your videos as a refresher when I need to shape a hat. 👍🏼🧢
Thank you sir for your video. U got a new like and sub. I wear a lot of my hats backwards so the front part that is usually mildly shaped and fitted is fine. It’s just the back part that starts to lose its form EsP in the heat and humidity of Florida.
This was a truly amazing video!!! I had numerous caps that the shape was really off. This completely fixed it. I used the Skullerz with a Size 3 soccer ball inside it and steamer to reshape (size 7.5 hat). Thank you for sharing your discovery
I have not personally, but some viewers have. I try to keep the cap material more permeable and avoid any kind of sprays, but that's just my personal choice. Thanks!
Some viewers do that, so I think it's ok if you want to try it. Personally I've always avoided using sprays so that they don't coat and clog the polyester or wool and make them less able to breathe.... thanks for the question.

Yes, although it may be tough to tuck it into the sweatband the way you can do with a standard one... even if you can't, the insert is still great for shaping.
I reviewed differences in this video - ruclips.net/video/76w4oEVCMWI/видео.html - and I believe the try-on starts around 7 minute mark. May add side-by-side images to a future video, thanks.
Thanks for the videos, awesome info and tips. I got a little issue with a cap hope you can help me, I already bent the brim and seams a little twist to one side, can’t get an uniform curve, tryed to bend with bands, steam and a cilinder and a cup but the result is the same. I am worried that is more like a problem with the crown. Is not the first cap that I bend.
If you steam it to curve, you can probably manipulate it a bit more on the side that needs it. Unfortunately I’ve had caps where the visor is not centered, or the two front crown panels are attached to the visor at different heights… both of these can really mess up the cap symmetry, so it may just be a bad quality cap.
@@dreinthe616 oh I see, do you recommend to change the cap?, I just bought it online, with the straight brim seams to look ok, but the problem becomes visible once I curved the brim. Or do you think is not a big deal?
Do you think the Bullard bump cap and steam can raise/restore the buckram and front panels? I have a Roman Pro from the mid to late 80s that is too sloped, too much of a dad hat look. Would like to have a mid-crown shape if possible, since it's a 1950s Senators replica. Size-wise, it fits great - no stretching needed. Bought it as new deadstock, so mint condition other than being somewhat flattened (guess from the way it was stored).
I think all of it depends on the ability of the buckram to hold shape... you could try by heating it with a hairdryer and then pressing from the inside with a towel or t-shirt, just something to deliver the form you want. If it holds after cooling down you might be good, but otherwise there's not a lot of ways to put structure/stiffness back in.
@@dreinthe616 Thanks Doug. Will try the hairdryer method first - that's simple and practical. And the bump cap insert is a great suggestion for smoothing out creases and is certainly affordable. Yet another helpful video to extend the life of a cap.
If the buckram in the front two panels is really beaten down, then it's difficult to restore the most robust structural part. But some cap fans use spray starch on the crown when they have it on a shaping form like this, to give it a little more stiffness and hold off wrinkling of the back four panels, thanks.
Will work with any size, and they really only sell one size of these anyway… they’ve got slots that allow them to compress a little bit for smaller size caps, thanks.
Depends on how you wear and store it, but not that long… you can try spray starch to keep the pressed look longer, a lot of my viewers do that with the back four panels.
Never tried it, but I've got a hat or two where I might like to experiment with it. Usually I avoid the dryer because it tends to really beat up and soften the visor. Thanks for the question, if I try it I will def record and post a video of results.
It should be compliant enough to work in those sizes, and I’d recommend the Bullard one I linked in the description because it will probably conform the easiest to those, thanks
You can still use this kind of tool for shaping those, but if they're mesh you'll probably need more heat to smooth them (except for the back, where there's a giant hole above the snap closure of course.) You can find a video on my channel called "Stretching and Shaping Mesh Back Caps" for more info.
I have noticed that the 2021 MLB Postseason caps do not have the championship patches. Maybe they don't sell well when the team is eliminated and They will be used in only in the WS. Greetings From Colombia

I'm just wondering. I have a New Era cap and was wondering if it is fake or not.
