    I tried it out as well and found that it was incredibly consistent and like the changes. Rewards effort but doesn't punish that badly for the ones that just camp dual or 2h. A nice edit might be to make the ability either single target or multi target based on selected spell or something like that.

    A little weird to me that they removed rune costs from fsoa spec but said “arrow consumption rates are fine”. BIS ranged is like 15m+/hr to run

      @@aurah8245 mage is more if you camp incite fear, simply do not camp incite fear and your costs drop drastically. Exsang costs ~1650 per cast, incite fear costs ~6500 lol. Get your 5 stacks and switch to exsang, better dps and costs less

      @@peterkirk8510 exsanf uses more tunes than incite. Incite only uses runes building up stacks and on the passive procs. But now with the new fsoa changes it’ll be cheaper but we also can’t do blood barrage for quick heals during things like zammy phases to no food

    My main concern is that the FSOA will be relegated to a eof spec like how the Ezk is. It’s personal preference but i would like to just camp the FSOA (especially as it’s t95) and not feel like I’m “holding myself back” by not using t88 dw. I feel like if they can close the gap a bit more between gconc and gsonic it will sting a bit less for those of us who don’t want to rely on switching. I’m not looking for speed kills, I just want to be able to use a high tier weapon I spent a lot on. I’m not expecting a 1:1 damage comparison to dw. I just don’t like how a bis weapon gets relegated to “hit spec then switch.” (Context this is coming from someone who is not a high tier PvMer)

    Kinda sucks that for a lore stance- the Staff of Armadyl, the weapon that's been mystified since 2002 in Temple of Ikov, will now just a spec switch weapon.

      Well it's not the staff of Armadyl. That one went into Erebus with Kerapac. What we have is a fractured, imperfect, time clone created by the needle.

    Do you have a guide or know of a good guide that goes over the higher level gear upgrades and how to use them that allow you to get that level of dps? My sunshine rotation gets about 150k damage and It's hard to see where I can improve.

    I just love how transparent jagex is being with all this. Giving an active beta to test a major change for alot of players is good so huge props to them.
    In relation to the actual changes i entirely agree. Its a little sad Gsonic is sorta dead on release but sometimes thats how it is. Excited to see what these changes then allow jagex to do which they seem to say the current live FSOA is limiting creativity. Love the video and big props all round to lots of content creators namely yourself, PuP and Rocket being your slave yesterday haha!

      With the new gsonic rework coming on Tuesday, the jmods hinted that future updates would work to buff the "flow" effect that gsonic is going to provide. Seems like it'll get stronger overtime which is cool to see

    My concern is that jagex will see the 410k damage number with 4taa and nerf the staff even further because it's currently a buff if you 4taa. And again, we'll have magic content handicapped because of 4taa, limiting those that don't want to use it. A 4taa change is probably needed at this point. 410k over 360k is like a 14% increase, which is massive.

      I’m fine with 4taa existing, I just believe it shouldn’t ever be >5% dps increase. I’m fine with people who want to sweat dealing more damage to me, but I don’t want to feel like I’m kneecapping myself because I’m only using it at end game bosses.

    I'm 50/50 on the change, but as someone who has bad rng XD I do enjoy the fact it won't be punishing for that. Definitely great seeing and hearing what/how you used it and the rotations as well. I use all three combat styles and I've always favored range anyways. Oh yeah,. HUGE props to the Jagex Dev team for this, having a beta world(s) and allowing players to access it, is a MASSIVE WIN in my book, wish/hope Jagex stays consistent with this now, if there's ever anymore changes that can/could affect the outcome on a style.

      @Gustopher 😂 yes it is. If it wasn't a thing, items would be a lot cheaper, getting more crits/adrenaline gain would be much more consistent. To say no bad RNG doesn't exist for a game is laughable.

      @@PercivalKing you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. By saying you don't have bad rng I mean you don't have a luck value assigned to your account. Obviously if you kill a boss 100 time you can have good/bad rng for your drops or your damage etc, but that doesn't say anything about your account.

    I think if they had it use the spell effect without consuming runes and removed the recurring crit effect (special effect can't reproc special effect and no additional runes consumed) it would have made more sense so that spell selection still was situationally modifiable, but other than that the change is good, it was way to strong with recurring crits being enabled and now feels like a weapon instead of a death touch dart on a roulette table

      im not the best at the game, but i think that having an fsoa in a eof would be a waste, youd have to swap something anyways if you want a guthix stuff in another eof, so id just keep the fsoa out and just swap to it use the spec and swap back

      It can heal yes, and still offers a decent heal. Just switch to blood barrage and use Dark Form pray. But obviously it's not the same ~7k HP heal anymore

    At least for me personally and my group of friends, we do the “sweaty” version of sunshine fsoa rotation on live (390k dmg), but dislike the idea of having to do 4taa (410k dmg) when the changes come through.
    In this instance, if we choose to not 4taa but still be “sweaty” and not camp one wep type or the other would we see a decrease in damage?

      It no longer makes much sense for people to say that the loss of damage from not doing 4taa is a bad thing in these cases. Since people still used 4taa before (out of spec). Also another thing people have never complained about is switching 8% dmg to using crypt+AD. :) in response, the damage loss won't be noticeable, as the actual damage nerf doesn't border on 5%. With 4taa you will deal even more damage, but that's a plus.

    Question: skimmed through the comments and didnt see anyone else ask. What is the differennce between an auto conc and just conc? Referring to the sweaty rotation that was shown lol. Im pretty nooby to pvm, so not the most familiar with certain terms or player mechs

      Auto conc means you equip a staff, force an auto attack, and then put on dual wield for conc

    I think the changes are good overall when just looking at combat. It does feel wrong to have a t95 staff and the highest level magic weapon in the game (apart from inq staff) being essentially a spec weapon.
    To me.the t95s should be the best in their style, but that's an ideological choice.

    Very pleasantly surprised :) I love the consistency and cheaper upkeep of it while also adding skill to get the most out of it rather than relying soley on RNG. Still a bit confuses at how the majority of the community thinks it's underpowered given we have numbers now showing it's still good and also more consistent but anyways.
    What would be interesting is to see where channeler's ring and abs fall into the rotation now if included it all. I'm assuming channeler's is going to be a bit better to weave in now or camp due to the amount of channeled abilities being done during the spec. Am I right in assuming this ?

    In live game I’m getting 450k DPM and in beta I’m getting 390k DPM while sweating and focusing between suns. My 36 second Sun rotations in live game would vary between 300k to 500k damage. Whereas in beta that number is probably a consistent 310-360k. The nerf is fine besides at P7 zammy cycle 2. Before if you fucked up your cycle 1 and dealt like 60k damage you could finish the kill. Now you might need to leave the kill.

      I didn't test well on DPS check, but I believe it's better now than before. And the rotations have changed a lot in this new FSOA, so clearly your old rotation is going to do a lot less damage.

    What this rebalance really does well is making FSOA not prone to insane powerboost with any form of crit buffs. Adding a 5-10% crit buff to Live servers right now would absolutely break fsoa and make everything easy mode, due to recerssive autos and how higher % stack exponentially. The beta completely removes that as an issue, and leaves Fsoa open to be a super strong weapon without Jagex fearing for the game balance if they want to add a new ability that increase crit, etc. I will miss Aoe and Heal, but those really needed to go, they completely broke the game in ways it shouldn't have been possible to break it. I'm actually very postitive to this rebalance. Great work Jagex! More like this please!

    I'm definitely for the FSOA changes (hard to call it a nerf at this point) mainly because of the consistency. The reason I prefer melee over ranged and mage pre-fsoa change is because melee is overall a lot less rng reliant on crits and/or hydrix procs. I picked up a fsoa about a month ago and have fell in love with it when it goes brrrr but outside of that I find it can also be very lackluster with bad rng. I also love 4 ticking so that's another +1 for me.
    As for animate dead I think it potentially got tagged a bit too hard mainly for the typeless damage. I think maybe make it 25-50% as effective on typless rather than making it not work at all would be better. I think the number adjustment otherwise is fine though, animate is definitely too strong in the current game.

      Ranged is extremely consistent with bolg, if you use deathspores it can be a little annoying to build the stacks, but if you switch a little early incend -> basic -> grico -> (fill) -> free DS with crit buff feels amazing

    I've had my fair share of issues with Jagex for a while. But THIS change is how you should do game development. Removing such a range of DPS due to RNG and improving consistency. And allowing the community to actually beta test the change to fine tune it from there. Why it took so long to get to this point I don't know. But I am glad they are finally there.

    Can you possibly make a guide on damage rotations for different stages of the game where people don’t have concentrated blast or greater rico stuff like that, I got my buddy to start playing rs3 instead of wow but he quit after getting like 90+ combats curses ovls got to the point of bossing and quit because he couldn’t find any good resources on damage rotations what gear to go for first etc and I’m not very good at the game either so I don’t know

    This obviously assumes t92 dual weild as well as the staff. I wonder for myself, only having t88 wand and orb with the staff, am I better off camping the staff for the spec. Or still camp dual weild due to gconc being so good ? Great vid Ryan and definitely the question on everyone’s mind at the moment.

      Actually not. The damage increase on higher tier weapons is still close to that of a normal ~2% max t88->t92 upgrade (based on FSOA procs).
      So it would still be better to use seasinger.
      I myself did interesting rotations with seism wand + attuned crystal wand and got the same 340K-360k damage a few times.

      There’s no reason to put it in an eof. It’s still 1 inventory space either way. You’re either switching weapon to spec, or switching ammy. And you would camp the ammy for the whole spec as you’d want to utilise gstaff which would mean more switching.

    I logged back into rs3 to liquidate my bank and transferred all the gp to old school. I was going to come back, but they nerfed my crutch. Now I have a fsoa in osrs(the shadow) :P

      @@jazzysingh001 Switchscape should not be mandatory, but you should be rewarded for putting in more effort. It’s a meritocracy. You don’t need 400k dpm for end-game pvm. However if you want those faster kills, you should have to use your brain to do it.

    Honestly the change from Auto-attacks to Ability Damage is what I fixated on the most. It is good that it will reduce the consumption of runes drastically, and the lack of additional spell effects raises the skill level slightly. However the one thing that doesn't feel right is, well... the Dual-wield camping. It really is a bummer to see a weapon of such Prestige being relegated to simply being a Special Attack, and not much more. Even Greater Sonic Wave, a level 75 Magic ability, whose purpose was to level the playing field between 2h vs. Dual-wield, failed to do so given the numbers, and now will do so even less.
    Perhaps someday we might get a min-Weapon Diversity patch, where 2h's have a passive, and Dual-wield has a passive. (And this can be for all weapons of any tier, across all styles)

    I get the reasons for this but I really dislike no spell usage, it just gives even less usefulness to the spell book instead of being rewarded for utilizing more of it surprising with blood, aoe, and things like auroras. I am glad the numbers are better than expected though.
    I know this was not the point of the video but how are you getting an auto after the gstaff and before gconc? G staff eof with DW and then a DW 4t auto?
    Also would be interested to see similar info on AD. Thanks for the content, well done!

    i knew this was going to be the case, wish i had posted somewhere. being able to cheesing gconc+abs on dual camp with channelers ring is nuts
    obviously the blood heals will be missed, that coupled with animate dead nerf is going to make some content harder. specifically high enr zammy, but who knows, power creep is always around the corner, and ppl might start using blood reaver to get 100k heals per kills now that crit chance isnt AS HUGEEEEEEE with the recursiveness.
    I do hate that it makes 4taa super important again. I wish they would get rid of that tbh, such a dumb tech imo.

    Changes were neccessary but bringing back 4taa without addressing it or giving any idea on how to fix the underlying issues in the future is frustrating. This is a bandaid for a single weapon.

    Doesn't seem to me like the changes accomplish a fix for the problems they identified beyond arguably upkeep cost (was using ~50% of the runes compared to normal on beta worlds). Any future crit releases will still stack multiplicatively for magic compared to other styles and as you (and the other big names) are claiming the damage is still as good or better than where it is currently, where they claim to be uncomfortable with it. On top of that they've destroyed FSOA as an actual physical weapon unless you 4taa, as it's just something to equip once a minute for the spec now.
    I would have rather seen a cap on the amount of crit the staff can utilize, which would lead to interesting choices for players in the future. If the staff can only benefit from 35% crit, maybe they introduce a new hood for magic in the future with 5% crit on it. Meaning people could go with a ripper demon instead of a kalg, or some new invention perk over biting. Or an armor set that gives 10% crit, meaning you could swap grim out for a Ful/Jas book.
    They're overcomplicating things IMO, especially since we won't see anything in these new "reward spaces" they're creating for probably years. I say K.I.S.S.

      Yeah I agree with the notion that they didn’t really achieve what they were trying to accomplish. Ultimately this is a buff to magic because you have significantly reduced upkeep costs while either maintaining or actually doing even more damage than on live game. This does basically nothing to address their original problem.

    Would this suggest that putting the fsoa into an eof would be a decent idea? Seems the only reason to use it would be for gsonic or tempest, neither of which greatly affect spec much at all.

      @@siegdarklyon1900 the damage is only consistent if you don’t have to deal with mechanics. A place like Raksha or kerapac it will be the same. Most other bosses where you have to move or use a defensive or phase your damage will be worse

    I think mr staff is completely fine, but man the changes to animate dead no longer working on typeless really hurts with also no longer having blood barrage autos. Taking a lot more self damage from tendrils(which typically doesn't matter) , and then things like kerapac lightning where, before you could do reflect/debil/dome and take about 55-90 damage from it, and on the beta you're taking about 550s, same thing goes for some old content like telos or araxxor, font damage, virus damage, reflected web damage, bleed damage, and darkness damage are all now back to how they used to be. Also things like afk helwyr will no longer be possible since the mushrooms are also typeless. So this actually removes a lot of comfortability from just a few pieces of content and.. i don't know if that's a good thing or not. Obviously across the board the changes to AD are better for the game but.. just kinda sucks that a lot of these older less relevant bosses(like araxxor) are now just.. more annoying to do.

      @@allstarr9tc It doesn't really have anything to do with being invincible, and just reducing the entry level pvm stuff and making it more difficult for most people. These were the things that hit me the hardest, as someone who doesn't do higher end pvm, the hardest thing i do is HM kerapac, which i have almost 1k kills. And the games been blatantly designed to make older content either, irrelevant or significantly easier. People don't even consider GWD2 bosses a thing anymore or any remote challenge, for exactly that reason. I think it's great training wheels that people can eventually get rid of by choice or not.

      No. Can literally just switch and spec then switch back to dual wield. It's not like the ECB where you have to use the ranged wep you have spec'd with.

      Only if they truly want 0 switching but you'll be forced to camp the eof and have to switch to gstaff eof afterwards, so either way you're switching something.. so not really 0 switching
      Even if you can still keep spec and switch amulets back.. it's still a 1 item switch and 1 inv space

    Pretty disingenuous comparison since you started with 12 exsang in the beta rotation and had a pretty bad rotation in live game, overall it’s likely to be around a 5-6% dps loss which isn’t bad but saying it’s more damage now is just completely wrong unless you didn’t know how to use the staff before.

      I exsang swapped both in the beta and in the live game.. (Except for one or two sun rots, that I disqualified before doing calcs). Possible I chose bad clips in the video as it was more background than anything else.
      All of my testing was done live as well if you want to look at it yourself.
      Also fwiw I don't care what they do with the FSOA, the idea that I'm pushing a false narrative to get it changed is asinine. This is a video of me sharing what I found, nothing more.

Still stand by the low balling of the max effort live game sun, for an avg player the new staff may yield better damage but I think it could be misconstrued as being an all around buff. It isn’t nearly as bad of a nerf as people expected prior to the beta but in the max effort category it is definitely a nerf.

    4TAA being back is terrible as heck, on-top of that we're turning another weapon into a spec/eof fodder. the damage should have been reduced. but the feel and identity shouldn't have been changed: Recursive critical hits, actually using the weapon during the spec.
    how they should have approached the FSOA nerf:
    Instability (the spec buff) applies a -10% critical hit chance to you & your critical hit chance is hard capped at 33% and both of these are numbers that can be adjusted later on until the damage output falls in line with the rest.

      4TAA is not mandatory, though. It is a choice. Also, there is literally no reason to put a FSOA into an EOF. If you've done so, you are extremely silly for doing so.
      And your proposed FSOA spec is honestly extremely lackluster. Also, to be frank, a lot worse than what the beta currently does.

    Kind of suprised that 4taa is as good as it is with the proposed changes. Personally i like it but i see tons of people don’t for whatever reason. Either way i think the changes are great, the consistency is something i’m a massive fan of, and the recruisive hits seemed very silly and way too rng based. So big W for me

    In my opinion, it would be better if they just delete the fsoa spec alltogether and make it a passive. This will prevent forced weapon swapping for optimal dps, it'll prevent fsoa from being eof food and it'll make the staff actually feel like a t95. Then give it a spec which increases crit chance for 5% for 10 seconds, costing 20% adren or something and call it a day.

    this update has singlehandedly made me quit this game, well, this and 4taa nerfs. I've been a mager for years, all the effort i put into learning rotations and 4taa is just gone. Mage has always been the combat style to reward more effort, now its braindead. like you said, the skill floor is higher, thats fine, however the skill ceiling has just collapsed in on itself.

    Brilliant. This is why games like WOW and ESO are doing significantly better with player retention. Those games understand the need for variety and diversification in strategy.
    When the answer to 95% of an MMORPGs PVE problems is "just mage it" it really detracts from the entire experience and lowers the potential enjoyment of the game.

    That dmg numbers 390k to 420k seem very fishy to me that doesn't make sense pure mathematical. I will test this tomorrow by myself but there is 100% something not right. The Overall Dpm should at minimum be 64-110k lower. Even with full 4 tick rotation. Which i do. And more APM does not matter at all because of global CD.

      ​​@@TheRSGuy So i currently work on a hit by hit comparison from Live Game to beta from Auto Attacks and Ability Damage. In fact i can already tell the Hit by hit comparison Shows a big diffrence in numbers nearly 2000 less dmg per estimated max hit. I will fully work this out today atleast the raw numbers i play test everything step by step (vuln/smoke/Blood spell stacks, ovls, prayer) just to be safe!
      After that i will do combos and upload the full numbers, math to reddit and the Rs Forums. Even with out the recursiv crits it's a decrease in dmg by a lot. At max 1 Fsoa spec you can use 5... greater concs without canceling 5 sec CD 3,6 sec channeling cd starts at first hit time lose 1 around 0,6 to 1 sec 6 sec total CD without 4 Tick .. I haven't tested the full value of g conc yet in this which i will do later on but based on raw numbers of the Staff " alone" it is an decrease by around -23 rounded% raw dmg estimated Max hit by hit comparison from current state and that just from 1 Hit no recursiv or anything. Just from Auto to Ability Dmg.
      I will work this out as deep as possible for me. I already did like 2 Pages of numbers what used/ equip step by step. As soon as i am done i can say more.
      Edit: The exact number is 773 dmg less per hit than in the Live game! On every stage.
