  • Welcome to our channel.
    An overweight Scous gas engineer and a short-legged German sound editor we are a couple of unlikely hiking and camping enthusiasts, out of shape and on the wrong side of 50. Since 2016 we have been tackling some of the UK's shorter long distance trails and when those failed to kill us, we went a bit bigger and tried for a 2019 through-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail,
    Our aim is to hike until we can hike no more. We are no experts in anything and we don't take ourselves too seriously, we are just hiking because we enjoy it and we film our adventures to share that enjoyment and some of the gear and hiking tips and tricks we pick up along the way.
    We hope you come along for the ride.

    You two... We miss you both. Hope you come back some day. Thank you for this review. I've seen the poncho on Amazon, now know what to expect.

      Thank you so much, that is kind of you to say. We would love to come back ... Once the world has calmed down a bit again. Well, the US isn't going anywhere, so we will just have to keep ourselves fit-ish in the meanwhile 😉

    Good to see you guys again. I have been busy moving further in land and working with my cousin roofing. I had my house up for sale and two days before I was able to sell it it burnt down in a wild fire Other than that life is been calm and quiet I hope the best for you mates

      Mike!! We are so glad to hear from you. We were talking about you yesterday, wondering how you were doing in this terrible mess. That is s**t news about your house - really bad timing! :-( but relieved to hear you and the family are okay.

      Hikes with Mike Thorne Oh, I am SO sorry to read about your house. A little time has gone by now, do I hope the insurance company did what they were supposed to do to properly compensate you. But still, the shock of that kind of event must be beyond terrible. Take care!

    I don't I think I could handle the noise in the wind. It is like a crisp packet. I'll stick with my Berghaus which is quiet, stronger and has a bigger hood.

    • @liverpoolhikers
      @liverpoolhikers  4 года назад +2

      Oddly that doesn't seem to be that much of an issue when moving about in it, though we get what you are saying: that shopping bag noise is one of the reasons we never went down the road of ultralight cuben fibre tents.

      @@liverpoolhikers The only problem with the Berghaus is I sometimes snag the beard in the zip. Not nice. I suppose I wouldn't notice the poncho noise over the wind.

    Thank you for your review. I've never tried poncho. Do I need to worry about wind chill, because the poncho will also be my wind jacket.

      Hi there. Thanks for watching and commenting. This poncho, thanks to the belt, is pretty wind proof, but it's a personal preference thing. Brian doesn't get chilly quickly anyway, so he hasn't had a problem.

    Yours is the 15d one, I believe they do a 210T version which is a little heavier but tougher and less noisy. Does the one with arms open out so you can use it as a tarp too? thanks

    • @liverpoolhikers
      @liverpoolhikers  3 года назад +2

      Hi John, Thanks for watching. Good call on the thicker material option, if we continue to like the poncho but the thinness becomes an issue, we may well upgrade to the 210 version. The full sleeve version we have got does NOT work as a tarp, it's more like an oversized jumper in the way you put it on, so it dies not open up to allow tarp use.

    For some reason youtube stopped sending me notifications on your videos. I was scrolling through and saw this and a few others I didn't know you'd put up!
    I wish I had this too - do you have a link to the poncho? Curious to learn more about it including the price. :)

      Geeky Girl Adventure - that's just the new RUclips Quality Control filter trying to spare you 😂😂. This Poncho/jacket hybrid goes by the catchy name of '3F Ul Gear Single Person Ultralight Hiking Cycling Raincoat Outdoor Awning Camping Tarp Sun Shelter' on aliexpress.com, where it retails for around $27 - 35, depending on size, colour and material choices. Someone needs to have a word with the good people of AliExpress about how to name their items, me thinks ... 🤔

      @@liverpoolhikers great review, i can't find it with sleeves, the pictures just show a normal ponch with this long name. i could really use one of these.

      @@TheMadmacs - thanks for your comment. Let's see if we can get this link to copy here ... www.aliexpress.com/item/32821844192.html?spm=2114.13010708.0.0.3a994c4dcnHpVn
      If this does not work, try putting '3F UL single person rain poncho' into Google and AliExpress should appear in the ads at the top. (It's the orange picture one). It does for us, hopefully not just because we looked at the item in the past. Good luck!

      So far that one rip was the only problem. We are quite aware that you get what you pay for, and we didn't pay a whole lot. It is more of a 'proof of concept' for us, as we were desperately searching for any kind of rain jacket that would not disintegrate within a week when worn by Brian. This one worked best so far (and some of the previous ones have been good quality brand names - still dissolved on him). If it rips again or goes beyond repair we can search for a better quality version 🙂
