When you listen to the isolated part of Helter Skelter, you really can understand why it's considered the first metal song 😮
I totally agree
And it was written because Paul McCartney heard that Pete Townshend described The Who's song I Can See For Miles as "the heaviest thing we've ever done" so he wanted to record one of his own, and thus the first heavy metal song was born
This is pure McCartney revisionism. It's a good song, in fact one of my favourite from that LP, but it's far too clean and neat to be 'heavy metal'. It's McCartney - he couldn't write a dirty, rough song if he wanted to. Lennon does much the same when he claims the B52s are copying him and Yoko when they were at their worst (sorry, I meant 'experimental'). Is it not enough just to be a Beatle, just to be one of the two most important song-writers in history?! What next - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da the first reggae song?
@@paulhaynes8045 alright man, time for your meds.
And listening to the bass part highlights what an awful bassist John Lennon was.
Looking forward to your next installment, "Guess the Beatles Song Based on the Tambourine Part"
You know..... that could be interesting!
@@buddyneher9359 Not sure if you've done it already, but it would be wild to try and identify Beatle tunes from backwards snippets of their songs. You can try and trick everyone with a couple of already backwards sections that seem to come out normal when played backward. Would be quite confusing.
Based on kick drum.
From first millisecond
Based on the cowbell! (But you can't have Baby You Can Drive My Car).
I'm a huge Beatles fan. Well, I thought I was until I took this quiz.
I Skipped all this easily for 12/12. That was really easy that I took for every song like 2 Seconds to quess it
8 out of 12 too 😁
Ive not listened to Now and Then so there's that. 9 out of 12. Did not get Nowhere Man and Ticket to Ride. Sun King was a challenge because I tend think of it as more of the intro for Mean Mister Mustard.
@@IggyPelmansame, except I got 10/12 because I have listened to Now And Then
@@violintegral Kudos
If this quiz tells you anything it’s how masked the underlying guitar parts can be in the complex structure of very iconic songs.
that "All My Loving" part is so easy to me, as a fan of the late Chet Atkins (which is the reason George play that style and used Gretsch because George is a big fan of)
I thought it was "act naturally" just cause it was so Chet
@@edwardpoe7323 also that one
5 I say all my loving or I know a secret
Had the exact same results going into the final song, which I only knew because I've listened to "Now And Then" approximately seventy-billion times since it came out.
i literally thought: "it's Something but it's interesting how it sounds like Now and Then... oh! it's Now and Then!!"
@TippiGordon, well done! Now I can hear it!
I've listened to it twice. Not such a fan. 😂
I recognized it immediately and then started cracking up when he said "it's slide guitar so that leads me to think George Harrison" 😂
Same. And also, Now & Then crushed me and keeps crushing me to the point of tears every time, so yeah… my brain and my heart know it very well by now. 😭😭😭
I got "now and then" instantly…prolly because I got addicted listening to that since it came out 😊
True
I really like these quizzes. Could you consider playing the bit with all the parts after each question to put it in context? I would find it helpful and it wouldn’t add too much time to the video. Thanks
Helter Skelter was the only one I was 100% certain about.
You rang!?
Same here
I love these videos where you break a song into specific instruments.
I cried during the last one, the tears kept me guessing.
I've heard it a thousand times
10 out of 12. Ticket to Ride, I also thought was You Can't Do That. Probably because the bridge section of Ticket to Ride was played as the clue. The other one that threw me off was Now and Then.
Same. I was certain it was You can’t do that lol
@hedbband, awesome!
@@mrguide nice job!
Here the same
Me too, right at the end it is exactly the same riff
Vincent has made a great sound for his recordings. Nice Job
I get strong Bowie vibes. Sounds pretty good
I got all 12/12 so I'm happy about that, George Harrison was my first major guitar influence growing up and is still one of my biggest heroes and he definitely wrote a number of great guitar parts during the band's run. I also do like that Now & Then was the final song in this quiz since it was the final song they released so that's also pretty fitting, great fun as always David
same but I guessed them all in like 2 or 3 seconds and skipped the rest of it so almost all since I play Drums and Guitar its much easier but I am a very huge Beatles fan with only almost 17 years
Thank you, David, I love all your contributions to the Beatles topic, it' s so amuzing and so fun ❤ I had the same wrong guess as you of You can't do that (Ticket to ride)- interesting.., I did not get Yellow Submarine and also found Sgt Pepper difficult! But Now &Then I got after one second of hesitating 🥰 I got 9 of12 😇
❤❤❤
@andrewpappas9311, that's fantastic! One of these days for me!
11/12, Ticket To Ride threw me for a loop.
12/12 the best I've done my far. I think it helped being a guitarist.
I guessed Eleanore Rigby for all of them
😅
Lol I literally guessed love you to on the last one even though love you to is just Indian instruments. Oops.
1. Martha My Dear.
2. Love You To.
3. Tomorrow Never Knows.
4. Revolution 9
5. Because
Then repeat. How am I doing?
The song with no guitar. Bold choice.
Now and then has a different sound to other Beatles songs, so for me it stood out right away
Exactly, the reverb sounds very much like today, not 60s.
This is the first time in these quizzes I've got 100% correct. I was gutted I didn't get the drum one right.
Woohoo, I was 11 of 12! The only miss was the same as yours thinking “Ticket to Ride” was “You Can’t Do That.” Though, now that I think of it, I remember when hearing the Atmos mixes that there were similarities to those parts.
I love geeking out over these quizzes you do. Between things like this and Atmos mixes, I get a whole new appreciation for music I’ve loved all my life. Thanks!!
I only got 5/12. I always suck at these type of quizzes though. This was actually a good result for me.
BTW, I think it's really cool that you get musicians and bands to sponsor your videos. I like that model better than an ad for a product. Not that some of the products aren't cool, but I just think it's a great way to bring new art to people's attention.
Me too
That was fun. I did get "Now and Then" - nice that you thought it was George 🙂
Wasn’t it George on Now and then? I thought it was? I heard he recorded his part back in… hmm… -95 or something? Must have confused that with something else then.
@@staffankarlsson520 they kept George's rhythm guitar part from 1994/5 but the slide guitar solo was done in 2022/3 by Paul
Thanks for another enjoyable quiz! I missed Ticket to Ride, too. Got all the rest. Amazing the different genres covered by the Fab Four, isn't it?
I love these Beatles quizzes!! Keep them coming
10/12. And Your Bird Can Sing and Ticket to Ride got me.
I was kind of proud of myself to recognize Nowhere Man, since I don’t know how to play any kind of instrument.
Always fun to play, waiting for more!
Pepper's was so loud ; I had to cover My ears.
Playing instruments doesn't help. Trust me. You're either good at this kind of thing or you're not.
Almost identical results, but instead of Ticket to Ride it was Sun King (which I only listened once) that got me.
@@rome8180 Idk. It's easier for me to pick up on piano parts.
'twas fun!@@Darth_Niki4
Something nice that you could do, is to play the full part that contains the isolated bit we just heard once your guess is made, so we can rebuild the thing in our head :)
He might not be able to do that for copyright reasons unfortunately. it would be cool
Yes that would be great!
The last one was not fair
Ticket to Ride is one of my favorite Beatles sons and even I thought it sounded like You Can't Do That! But I rewound and listened again after the reveal and can hear it in context now. Very tricky one!
You have to remember Lennons attack on the guitar . That gave it away to me in two bars . Had it been any other rhythm player it would have been a different story. Lennon plays like he’s always pissed off on the edgier songs …
Tipazo David! Gracias por estos juegos! Queremos más ❤
9 out of 12 ! And i was sure you'd drop Now andd Then lol. Keep up the good work.
thank you for the great content!
My pleasure!
our 5 yo daughter is a great fan of your videos on The Beatles. She knows their music from you. ❤
Hahahahahah they got you in the end with "Now and Then"!!!
Only one I didn't get was Ticket to Ride, the guitar though took me back to their early years... and so I picked the same one you picked! "You Can't Do That"!
That and "Nowhere Man" were the only ones that made it difficult for me and I was really surprised I got "Nowhere Man"
Very interesting , thank you, David.
7/12, my best ever showing on your quizzes!
I guess I haven't listened to Now and Then enough! A big curve ball at the end!
This was really difficult! Good job!
Loved how now and then was in it at the end
I can't believe i finally beat David!!!! 🤯 ✌🏻🥇🏆 We were tied until the last song. I heard it was Now and then!
Same here
10/12
Sgt. Pepper and Sun King got me. I was proud of my score. Another one that I was really good in.
I love these quizzes
Got 11/12 missed Nowhere Man🙃
Thanks for your great videos🙌
11 out of 12 for me. I too was fooled by the guitar part for Ticket To Ride, and like you David, I thought it was from You Can't Do That.
David, because you got 11, I must say, I am mostly a harmonica player, but I see these intros, as a soft entry into, the major note, playing the scale around the bottom of the top note, so that the beginning of the song starts off with a bang, boom, frontal aggression on the vocal line....
@cal.anonymous7970 I don't really understand much about what you are talking about. For me I'm a massive Beatles fan and it's the challenge of recognising parts of familiar songs that have isolated. What key they are in or what the scale is, is all beyond me.
Love these, you really have to wrack your brain. 10/12.
8/12 for me. Good quiz David!!
10/12 that was fun! Do a video on Beatles handclaps! 😂
Bravo! Well done))
That’s funny. The first time I heard the piece of song 10, I also immediately thought it was You Can’t do That, but the second time I realized it was the B section from Ticket to Ride. The isolated guitar sounds a lot more bluesy than the song all together. I never really noticed the sort of Ray Charles thing with the 7th on that D chord before.
I got fooled by "Now and Then" too, but interestingly it had me thinking of Pink Floyd's "Us and Them," which is both melodically and phonetically close!
Nice! Keep making those videos for as long as you can, they're awesome. Also have you heard of the band Sir Chloe? I think the most interesting songs to check out are Untie You and Mercy.
Ticket to ride was one of the few I even got 😂 The fact that nowhere man escaped me is going to haunt me forever. Love these vids.
9/12. Good one, David. Thank you.
Got em all, the guitar parts are such integral parts to them and as a guitar player i know pretty much all of em.
Hi David, interesting test! I'm a guitar player and I studied the Beatles for 20+ years: I'm not totally satisfied with my result, 9/12, but not too bad either I guess...
Yay! Beatles quiz!
10/12. Was totally foxed by numbers 7 & 10. Great quiz.
Thanks for another great one! I got 10 of 12, but tough to be sure!
Normally I'm not fond of in-video ads, but it's rather clever and appropriate to put a musician's ad after a music-related video.
these are my favourite videos
THEY REALLY PULLED THE NOW AND THEN.
I got 11/12 and missed Ticket To Ride. That one was tough! Keep making these, I love these videos
Been listening to the Beatles for over 40 years...these were absolutely easy.
Got them all... but some were challenging!
Cool..well done I only got 4
Next: Guess the Beatles songs from the chord progressions
4:14 Paul McCartney played that searing lead part
3/12. And I really appreciate your lack of ego. ¡Good show!
7 out of 12….great quiz!
10 out of 12. Nowhere Man really threw me. Fun video. Thanks David
Some of those clips were narsty editing, props to whoever put it together. I don't know some of these, some I knew and recognized, but a couple selections I knew the song but had no flipping idea what the selection was. Very well selected.
9/12 great tape mate
8/12 myself. These are so much fun!
12/12! Got all of them! Haven’t even listened to 3 albums yet (Please Please Me, A Hard Day’s Night and Beatles For Sale) yet still smashed it!
I've recognized five. Others unfortunately not - but it was still a lot of fun.
And yes.. Vincent
Has a pleasant voice and easy, good music
I would like to send him a compliment, namely that he reminds me, vocally, partly of David Bowie, who is still my great love 🙃
Greetings from Germany and please excuse my bad English 🖖🏾
12/12. No. 11 was the most challenging, but I got it after a few more listens. Putting the vocals on top of the isolated guitar in my head really helped lol
Got them all. Nowhere man was the most difficult for me. I had to listen it more than twice to get it. This was fun
Nowhere Man was really tough. I was nowhere near.
Nowhere near Nowhere Man! (same here lol)
Please don’t give the answers away.
Top comment spolier
The guitar sounded like those early 70s songs from bands like America or Jim Croce.....so now we know where they got their influence!
It's the bridge part with the "ah la lala"s
A really great quiz. I scored 7 out of 12.
11 / 12 here and Nowhere Man was the one I didn't recognise. Good quiz David.
10/12 - happy with that!
I love this format. Nowhere man on the first strumm, its funny.
That quiz was tough! I missed three.
I got ten and I knew Now and Then.
12/12 thank you very much
Ticket to ride got me, also thought it was You can’t do that. That part sounded so similar. Fun challenge
10/12! nice!
9/12. The last three got me!
Hi David I’ve always considered myself as a Beatles expert on all things - to the point that if I went on Mastermind, they would be my specialist subject. On the basis of your quiz, I only recognised 5, 6, and 9 - wrong on the first ‘easy’ 4! I would be crawling off the Black Chair with a measly 3 points. Well done on your effort and score. Vic
Whitchurch, Hampshire
All My Loving - way too easy! Com-ed David!
6/12 and I am a massive Beatles fan.
IMHO Helter Skelter was the first Punk song...thanks for posting an entertaining quiz!
Favorite song to sing, such a dynamic scale in ascending and descending order
Ticket to Ride was the only one that gave me trouble. Eventually I realized it was from the “Before she gets to saying goodbye” section and then I could hear it.
glad Now and Then was included
The Ticket to Ride is the tough one
i prefer your original videos like the orchestration ones. i always look forward to watch them when they come up.
Love this series david! I generally do pretty decent. Super fun to play.
I've watched all of these types of videos you've made, and this is the first time I've ever beaten you. I got 10/12 (Got Nowhere Man and Now and Then.) But for Now and Then I literally forgot the title and had to pause to remember it!
8/12 here, too. The last two especially stumped me.
10/10 I succeeded in all these videos so far. They’re really easy, and I’m only a drummer. It would be better if he played underrated songs, which would make it more difficult.
I did 9/10, miss "Ticket to ride". Thanks for your funny videos. Regards.
11/12? Nice work only missing 1.
Holy crap.. I guessed "because" when now and then played, and I just realized it's cuz they played the "because" harmonies when that guitar part was played..! Incredible
10 out of 12. Missed Now and Then and Sgt Pepper of all things 😂
