So glad you reacted to this live version. This is one of the best F-U songs in rock and Phil really lets loose at the end.
This was a one-hour made for TV concert that first aired in the UK and then aired in the US just as Phil was breaking out as a solo star. (It was recorded in 1982 and aired in 1983.).
Interesting about the Beatles. Phil was an extra in the movie of A Hard Day’s Night and he really admired Ringo’s drumming. (He recorded a couple of covers of Beatles songs too and played with Ringo at some charity concerts.)
However the best Phil/Beatles story involves George Harrison. When Phil was 18, he was asked to be a session musician on All Things Must Pass, George’s first post-Beatles album. For Phil that was huge. He was just a kid, about to play with two of his idols - George and Ringo. Phil played conga for a few hours during the recording of Art of Dying and then was told he was done. When the album came out, they used a different recording without congas.
Fast forward 15 years and, now, Phil is a big star. He is at an event with George and mentions playing congas, but George doesn’t remember him. Obviously, that was very disappointing for Phil.
Jump another several years and a mutual friend tells Phil that George is remixing All Things Must Pass and might find the recording with Phil’s congas. A few weeks later, Phil gets gets a tape with a note from George that says, “Could this be you?”
Excited, Phil listens to the recording. But he’s crushed. His conga playing is just dreadful. Phil realizes he was actually fired by George. In fact, on the tape, George asks if they can try another recording “without the conga player?”
A little while passes and Phil is on the phone with the friend, who mentions George is there. George gets on the phone and asks Phil if he got the tape. Phil says he did and he now realizes he was fired by a Beatle. In response, George laughs and tells
Phil that it was a “piss-take. George got another percussionist to record the bad congas over the old recording to prank Phil!
Just another reason why George is my favorite Beatle.

This performance was in 1982 when he was 31 the other was in 2004 he was 53.
When he became the front man for Genesis he decided he didn’t want to sit behind a drum set and sing during concerts because it would effect the experience that the audience would have. So Chester Thompson played the drums at live performances for Genesis and solo concerts. There was always a time during a concert that he would be on the drums.

You should check out one of his Genesis performances. This one is from 1992, so in between the other two. It’s long, but well worth it. He plays the drums quite a bit, but not while he’s singing. Home by the Sea/Second Home by the Sea - ruclips.net/video/MOb9Ubu8f3U/видео.html

This is my "F-you, I am done with your BS" anthem for decades. Whenever someone ticks me off to the point that I am just not going to put up with their drama anymore, I play this song on loop for 3-4 times and am mentally prepared to call that person out every single time that they do something that upsets me.

Did you know that Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel were both lead singers for the Genesis. What about "Against All Odds"
