Great video, new fish here. Thinking about joining up just based on your comment responses; your vast knowledge of not just fishing, but our estuary that's in this great state.
When you’re in water that deep and you don’t have a spot lock trolling motor, do you have to just drift through or do you drop an anchor? Twenty plus foot depth means a whole lot of anchor line.
I’m from Texas and in the state to work and wondering why Louisiana has a small trout limit size plus 25 fish limit. Texas only has a 5 fish limit plus 15 min. And down the lower coast even a 3 fish limit just wondering on your thoughts and does it hurt you guys from catching trophy trout
Hey Dan, that's a great question, and I'll give you the best answer I can. What it boils down to is the fishery and how LDWF (and, by extension, the people of Louisiana) want it managed. First off, our fishery is vastly larger than that of Texas. It's not even close. Just look at aerial imagery on Google Earth and see all the marsh we have. That is that much more habitat that everything from shrimp to crabs to pogies, to speckled trout and redfish can grow in. The only state with more tidal shoreline than Louisiana is Alaska. I've taken people from across the United States and the world fishing on our coast and they all have the same thing to say: it's HUGE. So, we have more fish, so we can take more from our waters without threatening the spawning stock biomass. Which leads us to management: Louisiana's speckled trout are managed for maximum yield. That's because people here like keeping fish and eating them. Personally, I'd rather manage trout for sport fishing and not for groceries, and that's why I do practice so much catch and release: to set the example and cross my fingers that others follow it. No, not in this video I did but in many more I do. The idea behind the twelve inch minimum is to allow that individual speckled trout to spawn at least once in order to replace itself and create a few more before it is harvested. Hope that answers your question!
I had the same experience as you did with that trout getting crushed in Florida, but wine was a giant snook. Not sure you’re gonna fine many of those there.
I haven't been fishing in awhile Capt. D, but as soon as I get a chance. I will let you in on where I find them biting. Heard you say no one tells you where they catch'em. Imma change that.
Good question, either Saltist or BG for spinning reels. The baitcaster is a Daiwa Tatula 100. I talk more on why I choose Daiwa in this blog post: www.lafishblog.com/i-love-daiwa/
I have had dolphins do that to me too. They will pick up the trout right behind the head and swim off with it. There is no turning them at all. they just wait for the hook to pull out of the trout's mouth and then suck it down. Clever little devils. You will know because you will get the bait back basically unharmed or sometimes with trout but they will be crushed.
Yes, I have four of the same rod/reel combo but different line types/diameters on them. I use the label to know what line is on that rod when I go to pick it up.
I see we're up to 5 "Negative Nancys" Must be "Ch"Air Force guys... You're getting quite the following here. On second thought, I bet they're Florida guys who think you're "raping the resource" LOL.
Let me teach you everything I know to catch speckled trout and redfish from scratch: www.lafbelite.com/join-lafb-elite/
that castle was the hot spot in the 90's for some fine trout!!! was still alil more of the castle left standing .... great video CAPT. DEVIN!!

@@LAFishBlog I know that tho
Fished at the castle alot as a kid. Sometimes it was lit.
Sometimes. But not all the time, and I'm glad it's that way. Otherwise fishing would be too easy and it wouldn't be fun.

I'm guessing it was a giant bull red or something like that.
Hey capt., i was wondering, if you were to need to buy a new boat would you get another aluminum bass boat or a bay boat? Maybe fiberglass?
Ranger Intracoastal with the biggest, most illegal and ignorant Mercury money can buy on the back.
@@LAFishBlog that is the correct answer lol
It’s a big gar it’s happened to me before and we followed it turned out to be ab 7ft wasn’t in as deep of water though. But he ran just like that

LOL thanks, Thaddeus, I appreciate that but I do respectfully ask that people not share information with me. I love finding my own fish to catch.
Giant Rainbow trout in French meadows reservoir in California!
okay? lol Thanks for watching, Wes!
Nothing beats when you think you're reeling in a hardhead and it turns out to be a monster trout.
1000%!!!

You “just checked in to see what condition your condition was in”, haha

They’re swimming sandwiches- hahaha
Great tip on the gulp, never fish them because of the mushy texture.
We've used those new penny's with great success but Im convinced Berkley knew what they were doing when they made them out of tissue paper.
Definitely try drying them out :)
Dolphin?
That's a good guess but I never saw one surface and certainly never saw one on the graph.
12 M =12# mono? You got too much free time lol
What do you mean?
@@LAFishBlog on the split handle of your bait caster i see a white sticker that says 12m… or am i seeing things?
@@LAFishBlog at rhe 13:57 mark, that rod.
