Rigging Baits This Way Resulted in TONS of Trout!

- Drop-shot rigs elevate soft-plastic baits off the bottom, holding them in the strike zone of feeding speckled trout. Capt. Justin Bowles has discovered a unique way of tying them, and it's been paying dividends for him, but never more so than on a trip he and I took to Venice, La., at the mouth of the Mississippi River.
We caught really nice speckled trout almost every cast, and left them biting. Check out the video for all the details!

Just unbelievable speckled trout fishing
Im hoping thats what heaven is like
Thanks for another fantastic video and Justin's drop shot tips
Thanks for sharing Todd! I always look forward to your videos.
One other approach for this knot is to add a knot on the drop side so that you create a "T" knot; it helps offset the drop line from the main line more. You do this by first tying a multi overhand knot (like the surgeons knot) then do the drop just like Justin did, pulling the drop line through the loop you create.
Also, if you are using a small hook/small hook eye, you can run a line first through the eye, then through the loop and then back into the eye and then pull the loop through the hook eye. And on top of that if you want, you can use the drop loop to tie a Palomar knot on the hook.
Been fishing with a knot like that for years only mine has 1 extra step, its like a T-knot so if you happen to break your line on that loop sticking out you can now have 2 seperate lines to retie too instead of redoing your whole rig. I'll be down there catching em like that all next week! If curious about the T knot you can watch me tie one on my channel on my Venice trout slam video. Have a good day!!
Thanks for showing us this rig JB.
That’s the kind of day we all dream of. Water that clear makes me feel like I’m fishing I Alabama or Florida.
The pompano rig is out of the box! Ha I started surf fishing before trout fishing and this is the only way I tie. Does great! Neat to see others starting it now 👍 tight lines
This is a great video for people who don't know what fishing looks like
Wow beautiful trout and all on plastic......Awesome
Awesome video. Those were some hammer trout.
Great video awesome Trout interesting tackle technique. Thanks
So what was the floatation used in the bait to keep it floating in the water column ?
Nice job fellas! We have been killin' the trout here in Eastern NC as well!
Best dropshot
The water looks beautiful down there, I could imagine the drought is to blame. My son and I went yesterday morning and weeded through multiple dinkers to end up with 6 keepers. The bite getting hot down here in SETX
Man send me the spot I want to go down there next week and catch some trouts ..
Wow.....Wow wow WOW...
My Aunt owned a Antebellum Mansion in Natchez . Her Chef made Trout Almondine
With $ 800 a bottle Conac
. That Chef was bro
I would like to learn to tie that the first part was extremely hard to see exactly what was going on love your videos
Thank you for the video. Been fishing a drop shot for bass, never thought about using it for speckled trout. Is the bait Justin used available to purchase?
Blood dropper loop.
I've launched my kayak off of Tidewater road near Yellow Cotton Bay and fished mostly for redfish within a couple of miles. I now have a 3hp electric motor on my kayak and I'm looking to explore. Are there any safe options to launch a kayak and perhaps fish the Venice wagon wheel or a similar area?
Going to Venice in the morning but in our kayaks
Good luck! Let us know how it turns out
🇺🇸🦐🐊👍
Wouldn’t mind knowing what hook Justin prefers with this rig. 2/0 circle hook?
I use a gamagatsu 2/0 or 3/0 octopus hook. Not the octopus circle.
Thanks JB!
Is there a name of that new drop shot bait?
Its made by bite-tech lures out of Denham Springs La. I have been calling it the drop shot minnow
Still a dropper rig. Just like surf fishermen use. Add a colored float to the dropper and it's a pompano rig. Not a drop shot rig.
ID LIKE TO SEE THIS DEMONSTRATED IN A POOL USING A TROLLING MOTOR ON LOW SPEED FOR CURRENT.
WE'LL GET RIGHT ON THAT!
