Please for the love of god make them consistent one shots anywhere around 8 to 12 meters. They sincerely need a huge buff otherwise it will never be played in high level content.
I love that the bolter has compelling upsides and downsides. Wish more of the weapons were less «good» or «bad» and more situationally good where we can have actual choices for what we would want our builds to accomplish. In my experience it seems like a minority of weapons are worth discussing, which is a shame considering how much cool shit there is in the game to fuck around with.
honestly a lot of weapons have a niche or something they can do that makes them unique, it's just whether or not you know about it and whether or not that's especially useful in the higher difficulties, but often times people don't know what they're capable of so they write them off as suboptimal
I've come back to the game in the last few weeks, and it's nice that almost every Vet weapon feels viable now - with 1 or 2 specific builds ofc. Shotguns still feel bad though.
The bolter is my preferred weapon with my Focus Target setup. Smaller elites you ping will easily be one-shot, and if you've built up your stacks of Redirect Fire then that's usually enough to put you over the one-shot threshold by itself
Mod. I think you can adjust the FOV in game but not to the extent of Tanner's. I would really recommend checking out mods for Darktide if you're on PC, if at least for the full auto / keep swinging mods.
I enjoy a lot using Exe Stance with Focus Target on the Bolter, Surgical and Pinning Fire, with Deadshot. I could probably improve it since I haven't tested exactly what I need , but I like that it one shots the most important things, two shots Crushers and Reapers to the head, two shots Maulers to the body. It does suffer when killing bosses, though. You kinda need to make your entire build around it, but it's currently my favorite weapon to use, so I don't mind it.
There is a case to be made for shattering+puncture if running it on a zealot, juices your boss damage pretty well (also fun to magdump into crusher hordes with it, consistently 3-5 taps crushers depending on crits) - however for vet, I've tried all 3 setups discussed & pinning fire+puncture is the best irregardless of exe stance/shout or your keystones - my personal favourite is exe stance/wep spec
I do like puncture for the rare synergies with bleeding on crowds. See a horde around my ogryn friend or zealot and put a couple rounds into the crowd around them so they can get extra crit chance or defense.
I don't think this is working the way you think. Puncture only bleeds on direct hit, not the explosion, and any trash mobs that get directly hit by a bolter round are going to be dead.
Interesting analysis. Also, I run a bolter to deal with crushers and bosses if I'm mixing it up with a melee weapon that's bad against crushers. That will usually be a heavy sword or tactical axe since I love their aesthetics and movesets.
I like the boss build for zealot and the sniper build for vet. Boltgun sniper build w shout instead of stance is my main vet build these days, the boltgun sniping is so much fun!
Another nice feature of puncture is that it let's you finish some targets you normally wouldn't consider while reloading. I'll get numerous times per game where a mauler will die to the bleed stacks + pinning fire while I'm reloading after a mag dump. I believe there's a few specialists that can hit breakpoints with bleed stacks as well.
I run Pinning with Surgical and Focus Target Node (with tagging on alternate fire, so when I aim I automatically apply Focus target), so my every shot is always boosted (how much depends on how fast I switch targets) and almost always crit. Crushers go in three headshots (I believe). I don't really care about bosses, bolter still does a lot of dmg and I provide +20% dmg. My playstyle is to quickly kill threats through headshots and that's how I enjoy to play it. I run only T5 though, so I don't know about Auric.
I naively figured there's no need for puncture because I've got bleed frags coming out of every orifice every time I play vet, though. Plus they tend to stagger bosses for a moment which ties in well with preparing the bolter to unload on their head. It might be the other players helping out but I feel like 2 frags and 2 mags of pinning fire + anything else consistently deals with them. Thanks for the video showing me wrong.
@@TannerLindberg Yeah, I edited the comment like 1 minute after posting to clarify I was thanking you for giving this overview. I fell into the trap of thinking that I don't need bleed blessings because I have frags for bleed. I should've tested it, and I probably would've decided that it's better. That's all. Again, thanks for the video and doing the homework for us all.
I didnt realise the back of it popped out so far when shooting to cycle the bolt...so now when I ADS I keep seeing the bolter slapping the reject in the face every shot
If you let the bleed tick with shattering impact and puncture on crushers or maulers, it can 4 tap body shot crushers, and 3 tap body shot maulers. Don't remember exactly what setup I had, but on veteran I was able to hit 3 tap body shot on crushers (probably the elite damage and rending talents). IMO that setup is good against armor and bosses both, but the issue is weapons like the dueling sword exist. When you have a melee that can do literally everything and can 2-3 tap headshot crushers, the bolt gun is kinda just useless in comparison unfortunately. If you're using other melees though, it can be quite good at quickly dispatching a large group of crushers or taking a chunk out of a bosses health. Without shattering impact for the brittleness it's kinda just bad against carapace though, but if you are using a build or melee that struggles against armor, it can be a fun substitute. Personally I enjoy devils claw and crusher a lot more than dueling sword as my melee, leaving me lacking in armor damage, so that setup on my boltgun substitutes really well and feels very good. It's not the meta picks, but it's a good setup for what I enjoy using
I've been trying out the bolter recently, and I find it's actually a fun alternative to the plasma gun. God... if only bolters were fun to use in Space Marine 2. Damn, they really fumbled the bag.
Shattering impact/puncture is for hitting crusher breakpoints alongside boss dmg. +carapace/unyielding It's a 3-4 shot kill depending on hit location/crit, 5 if you just don't want to wait for bleed. Not sure where you get 80% of mag for 2 crushers because that's just not the case unless you're missing damage bonuses from skill tree. Shattering impact gave you 227 bleed (max stack) per tick on monster, pinning fire was only 165 per tick. That's around 37% increase in bleed dmg. If your build had BringItDown then it can actually 2 mag plague ogryn. Power in killing elites below ogryn types tend to be less useful because pulling out boltgun takes a while and the singlefire is very janky(recoil bug that was never fixed, alongside suppression). You're generally better off just going in melee. Since you know dueling sword exists. And it is primarily a boss melter, so I rather not waste ammo/reload on lesser enemies that even light attack can kill quickly.
If the video it takes 6 shots total to kill a crusher twice. 6 + 6 = 12, 12 is 80% of 15. But like he showed in the video losing the breakpoint on all these other enemies just for 1-2 less shots to kill a crusher and little to no difference vs a boss is not worth it. Also dueling sword exists
@@RPGandFPS *unless you're missing damage bonuses from skill tree.* "1-2 less shots to kill a crusher" actually means you went from comfortably killing 3 crushers by holding down LMB to only killing 2 per mag. dueling sword exists so it kills the smaller elites near instantly with no buff.
And yet I still have mouthbreathers on reddit insisting at me that surgical is the best blessing on bolter, because anything not slow as shit constant ADS is just wasteful magdumping...
@@TannerLindberg It was actually the other way around back then, i found it best to just magdump with that thing and only ADS with it if i was dealing with people REAL far away. Mag dumping is the only way to play the Bolter. It’s just so much fun….. and it kills everything. I am also more accurate hip firing for some reason 😂. Long draw time / read is def still a problem. Throwing knives help with this
@@andyozFace The ADS single fire has a lot of recoil that can be mitigated by just shooting really fast and having your target dead before the recoil has a chance to throw off your aim.
I mean its still a blessing that makes a more marksman style build very consistent. I honestly never struggle with boss damage that much so having the potential to 1 tap everything human sized consistently is very helpful
I use the bolter as a sniper and never mag dump anything build is Surgical and pinning fire with flak and unyielding i aim down sights a little bit longer to get more crit shots i find this the most effective build but if you use surgical as a build then mag dump is not the most effective. I can 90% of the time 1 shot all gunners + the scab rager and even the normal rager, Crusher takes 5 shots in the head, Reaper takes 2 shots in the head, Mauler takes 3 but sometimes 2 shots, try it out and see if you like this setup keep in mind think of it as a sniper

@Tanner Lindberg Just curious, but how did you get such a wide/clean FOV without having it look like sitting in a dentist's chair while having your eye forced to the back of you're skull?
I play with the Boltgun because I like the feel of this gun. Not saying that my setup is the most optimal, just well-round and good enough to beat the aurics and enjoy it. Shattering Impact, Cavalcade, +10% to Elites and Specialists, Longshot, Deadshot, Onslaught and Weapon Specialist (for free reloads mostly, but extra crits also feel good). PS for meele and 2 stamina curios. One-taps most of enemies most of the time. If I went for efficiency I would've played with plasma and dueling sword, but man, playing with Boltgun and PS is so satisfying =)
Agreed, that's what I've been using lately and it owns. I use different blessings and perks for my boltgun but essentially the same effect. I do shout + focus target with field improv for team support, and focus on just erasing elites and specials while doing more than decent dmg on bosses. It's not the most meta build but I consistently put up solid numbers on aurics so I feel like I'm good enough with the build to not be a detriment to others while having fun.
Not sure if you're taking requests for vids like these, but do you have any thoughts on the hellbore? It feels like its just a plasma rifle, but worse. I feel like everything it does is just plas but worse, and not in a quirky hipster "i dont run the meta for fun ✨" way but rather meticulously crafted to make the plas the cooler daniel. Now i may just be a dumbass though, which is why im asking someone who may know better
The hellbore is fantastic single target dmg but it's slow ready time + no mag dump option make it a worse boltgun. It's useable for aurics if you're good but you'll have to rely on others for rapid boss clearing, especially on 3VEG. Additionally, the lack of mag dump means you can't quickly erase large packs of shotgunners and ragers. I love the hellbore and use it for high level play still, but it's notably less good overall for general destruction against everything.
@@cibrig8719 The problems the Hellbore has make it far down the list of "good" choices for high level play, but you can still have fun with it. Just don't expect to be great in aurics with it :P
@@YizzTheEunuch hell yeah, I'll def give it a try. You got a favorite build you like to use for it or do you just swap it in on builds instead of other weps?
Are beasts of nurgle really a problem tho? they do like no damage and are super slow/ez to kite, I understand wanting to melt Chaos spawns because they really fuck with a group but I rather have an all rounder ranged weapon rather than a dedicated boss smelter, but thats just me.
Cavalcade gives an average of 15% crit chance if you do a full mag dump. That's decent, but not terribly reliable and it doesn't do anything at all for aimed shots. If all you ever use the bolter for is mag dumping then it's worth considering, but keep in mind that the crit chance from Cavalcade is back-loaded, meaning you gain significantly less benefit from it if you only need to dump half a mag to kill something (like a crusher or whatever).
I don't like bleed at all. It deals basically no damage. Cavalcade + reciprocity can give you up to 50% crit chance which is much better against everything. Moreover, the target does not live that much time to bleed actually make any impact
Not sure about the argument 'dont use a bolter to kill crushers because dueling sword'. What if you aren't using the dueling sword? You say the bolter sucks at dealing with crushers - but if I want to use a gun to kill crushers, then what gun is better? As far as shooting crushers goes, the bolter is pretty good at it isn't it, relative to other guns?
How does bleed work with other teammates? Will some zealot completely nullify my puncture by stacking cap bleed stacks on boss or are they player-specific? Because I believe mod shows them as if they are shared
Bleed stacks max out at 16 no matter where they come from. I also fell into this trap but you need the bleed to ensure elite (and some specialist) one-taps which saves you a whole lot more ammo, as he explains in the video.
I just feel like i can never reload the damn thing fast enough before my dookie ass random queued teammates let the hoard eat me, while im trying to keep specials from pinching and wrecking us😮💨 please i just want a bigger mag or something.😫My biggest of all pet peeve with the boltgun is the weapon swap speed holy shit, do i really need to take half a second to push the charging handle forward everytime i swap weapons??? We have a love hate relationship, the boltgun and I.

I don't think so. They both have puncture but they don't have all the same blessings and breakpoints.
@OrAngelicBlitz8633 how did I forget that wtf is wrong with me ☠️
Not sure if you're taking requests for vids like these, but do you have any thoughts on the hellbore?
@YizzTheEunuch I'll give it another try, thanks man.
Idk it's probably just a skill issue that I don't like it
@@cibrig8719 The problems the Hellbore has make it far down the list of "good" choices for high level play, but you can still have fun with it. Just don't expect to be great in aurics with it :P
@@YizzTheEunuch hell yeah, I'll def give it a try. You got a favorite build you like to use for it or do you just swap it in on builds instead of other weps?
Would you use this setup for the bolter for the zealot build you made prior ?
Yeah i do now
Are beasts of nurgle really a problem tho? they do like no damage and are super slow/ez to kite, I understand wanting to melt Chaos spawns because they really fuck with a group but I rather have an all rounder ranged weapon rather than a dedicated boss smelter, but thats just me.
So is cavalcade not worth even on zealot with blazing piety extra crit to get even more crits on full auto ?
Cavalcade gives an average of 15% crit chance if you do a full mag dump. That's decent, but not terribly reliable and it doesn't do anything at all for aimed shots. If all you ever use the bolter for is mag dumping then it's worth considering, but keep in mind that the crit chance from Cavalcade is back-loaded, meaning you gain significantly less benefit from it if you only need to dump half a mag to kill something (like a crusher or whatever).
Thanks!
Does this apply for zealot as well?
thought you could sneak that uncanny strike past huh?
I don't like bleed at all. It deals basically no damage. Cavalcade + reciprocity can give you up to 50% crit chance which is much better against everything. Moreover, the target does not live that much time to bleed actually make any impact
Not sure about the argument 'dont use a bolter to kill crushers because dueling sword'. What if you aren't using the dueling sword? You say the bolter sucks at dealing with crushers - but if I want to use a gun to kill crushers, then what gun is better? As far as shooting crushers goes, the bolter is pretty good at it isn't it, relative to other guns?
I would say you have about 5 decent choices : Revolver, Plasma Incinerator, Hellbore Lasgun, Bolter and Bolt Pistol.
hellbore is awful and bolt pistol is only slightly awful
What UI mod is that? I want it.
Uncanny strike Tanner era.
What do you recommend for the dump stat?
mobility is most people's go to

Nothing I want to know about the bolt pistol tho
Revive Shout is good.
Fight me.😂
I just feel like i can never reload the damn thing fast enough before my dookie ass random queued teammates let the hoard eat me, while im trying to keep specials from pinching and wrecking us😮💨 please i just want a bigger mag or something.😫My biggest of all pet peeve with the boltgun is the weapon swap speed holy shit, do i really need to take half a second to push the charging handle forward everytime i swap weapons??? We have a love hate relationship, the boltgun and I.
Thank.
Tanner we play ogryn now, you buffed him a little yesterday
Haha Bolter go Boom
But when Psyker vid?
In 30 more uploads.
Including the reuploads and taking down videos to make corrections.
Thats what I expect tbh
Tanner, can I know, why I got removed from your discord server?
A few people reported you as refusing to join the vc and talked loads of trash and we're a massive a hole to Randoms who joined
@TannerLindberg strange, I only. Played two times and I told then I joined, I can't use voice chat on discord and will use it in game. 3 permadowned people bullying me for build selection, and for playing on Xbox kekew.
@TannerLindberg I meant, I played two games with people from your discord. And I guess sending clips and pictures of their failing as a response to trash talk is me being an asshole, but the thing is first time I played with other group we had no problems and no one was talking shit to me. 3 bad apples ganging up together on people cringe tbh.
This gun really shies with focus fire.
Thats literally every gun and the plasma and revolver shine more
@TannerLindberg but they dont shoot rocket propelled railroad spikes. Comon
@TannerLindberg what I was thinking about is the fact that you can run max boss damage and still oneshot elites.
Boltgun any good?
Alright then
even bolter sux in space marine2
Interesting. I'm good though.
Hello. Monetize.
ur point about crushers is wrong, if u take focus target that affects ur bleed damage and you can take out a single crusher with only 3 bolts
Ah yeah stack up 5 stacks hit 3 head shots exactly then wait 5 seconds for full bleed yep totally a good way to kill them that's not awful hyper specific trash at all
@@TannerLindberg Actually it's 2 headshots, or 3 body shots. With the correct build, 3 stacks of focus fire are enough as long as you keep your redirect fire stacks up. You don't even need the flak damage on the bolter to get breakpoints.
Focus target helps with crushers.
Focus targint down crushers with Boltor is not a good idea
I didn't even know you could get guns with 80% in all areas. That's pretty cool.
you can't, his has 60% mobility
