    I also had to change the clamp that goes around the wheel, the original broke and its the pressed type while the one i got is indeed ford original but it screw type (hose clamp) how to make sure it's secure and doesn't come loose?

    You’re making a huge exercise out of a simple task. No need to pull the entire PCB and battery out just to replace the battery. Note that the battery has spot welded tabs that are soldered to the top visible side of the PCB. All you need to do is expose the solder tabs, desolder and lift the tabs off of the PCB, then gently cut around the battery and pry out of the casing. These older Ford band type sensors all use Maxell CR2450HR 3V lithium cells. You can find multiple vendors eBay selling CR2450HR cells. Only use genuine Maxell cells that already have the solder tabs spot welded in place. Note the the “HR” stands for “heat resistant” - do not use cells without the HR rating unless you enjoy replacing tpms batteries in your spare time. I’ve refurbished quite a few of these band type sensors in a fraction of the time demonstrated here. BTW, use clear silicon to seal the replacement batteries so you can see where the solder tabs are for next time.

      That's all fine and good, if you already know what the inside of these look like, know exactly where the battery tabs are and can order the parts in advance.
      I was fixing it to get it done same day while my tires were off and my car was in a shop, and I wanted to see the rest of the board.

    My local tire shop charges $50 Canadian for a new one of those sensors, literally cheaper than rock auto, but I wanted to rebuild mine anyways, issue is that the battery shows 3+ volts already and doesn’t work, I’m hoping the new ones I already ordered right after watching this (same brand and with tabs, 2 for $13 something free shipping) the first time will fix it, otherwise it’s time and $13 wasted, which isn’t bad but still sucks, all I’ll learn is that sometimes it’s not the battery

    After replaced batteries for FORD tpms sensors, they did not work anymore.
    Need to be re-programed?

      I wonder that too. Did you find out if needs reprogrammingM

    i have one of these with a defective battery on my edge...i was wondering if i could just replace them with a cheap made in china 315mh frequency stem valve style with my mags? (Remove the strap and install on stem valve)

      You should be able to. The universal ones have a fairly good reputation, and the ford OEM ones are over double the price.
      The tire shop that changed my tires actually fucked up and didn't tell me, they repaired the TPMS band with zip ties so it broke loose and completely smashed apart, meaning that my experiment to see how long it would last was ruined.
      The battery still was basically at full voltage when I found all the pieces in my tire.

    Did the fix work? You didn't say.

    • @JunctionRunner
      @JunctionRunner  3 года назад +1

      Ah, thought I had, as far as I can tell the fix is still good. I just had two more TPMS sensors die, so I have to get the tires taken off to see if my repair died or if it's just two more of the 10 year old ones. If mine is still good I'll be doing the two dead ones.

      @@JunctionRunner did you determine if the faulty ones now are the old ones? Is your fix still working?

    • @JunctionRunner
      @JunctionRunner  2 года назад +2

      @@DeepSouthernTX So unfortunately the wheel shop that changed my tires never told me the TPMS straps were loose, it broke free and was completely destroyed, which cost me not only a new sensor but my test of this.
      Really pissed me off they didn't tell me when changing the tires. I measured the battery and it was still nearly new, this was about a year after the replacement.

      @@JunctionRunner I see, I just changed the clamp on one of mine because in the past someone broke it and tried to hide by soldering the clamp but it was loose. Luckily the sensor didn't move even with lose clamp because of the double sided tape that holds it in place. I was lucky for not having that sensor fly around

      We need to fully participate in the tire change process, tell them that there's is a sensor on the opposite side of the valve stem

    never hear of those sensors, does every car has one? whats the use for? great to save lot of money by things you can do yourself.

    • @JunctionRunner
      @JunctionRunner  5 лет назад

      Not every car has them, it basically just lights up a dash if your tire pressure drops, newer cars also can do a readout and show the pressure each tire is at.
      It's just a nice to have thing, wasn't worth the $400 I was quoted for a whole new set but then found out I actually only needed one fixed so figured I'd have it done and turn off the light on my dash that was complaining about it.

    They should make these simple to replace! Like a watch bottom cap snaps out n then pops back in with rubber seal. Instead of all this crap going into the dumps n contaminating the land or being a cheapskate like this n jus breaking the sensor!! Hahahaha...
