Hence why I keep my Xperia XZ2. LCDs are not as power efficient as OLED and contrast is not that great but I rather have a good LCD IPS screen that I can replace for cheap than a OLED which costs the price of the whole phone.
If the display costs as much as the phone with display, someone is doing something wrong with the prices or sales process. Either the spare displays are shipped through inefficient channels compared to how the complete phones are shipped, or someone is charging artificially high or low prices depending on who buys the stuff.
As a Samsung S7 user, it's cool that people are still getting this phone. The specs, price, and avaliability of these used phones make it good as a tinkering device for playing around. Maybe things like dashcams, security cameras, or servers. As a daily driver, I have to be very careful not to damage it since sourcing quality replacement parts are expensive and hard to find like in the video. I hope Samsung phones enter display side on newer phones since the screens cost so much and susseptible to burn in.
This reminds me of how I have a broken Note8 set up with an app that then automatically launches Iriun Webcam so that I could use it as an overhead camera for a studio setup I'm working on.
Dude i have a silver model s7 edge and i accidentally dropped several times and it didnt crack but one day its screen cracked now its hard to type too and it costs so much even my mom doesnt repair it since i will be getting a new one
@@RunicProduct144 Samsung screens are more expensive than the phone, S9 for example, you can find them on ebay for 200$ and on good conditions, guess how much a screen replacement cost? 220$
Luckily, I took good care of the phone screen with acceptable burn in. Some people experience the phone dying (most likely due to bad SSD of years of use), so I am inclined to buy a broken S7 and switch out the motherboard.
Thanks for this video. I've had so many times that a repair doesn't go to plan, and the feeling of realizing something is broken after you fix it is an awful feeling. In a way, this felt sorta satisfying to watch. Keep making great content!

I broke my screen and tried to changed the battery with the screen but i think i fried the Motherbored with a shitty battery. I hate how ignorant i was beacuse every samsung after the S10 is shit
Watching this on my S7 edge. So far I have replaced the SIM tray, mother board, battery and rear glass with seal. All easy repairs and the phone is still like new!
My SIM card tray is broken as well (come on Samsung, is a metal SIM card tray that expensive) and I swapped my motherboard with one of a different S7E. My screen has a fair amount of burn in, I wanna retire the phone soon, it's served me well for coming to 6 years

I have an S7 (non-edge) version and it's a darn good phone. Extra winner is that I got it for free and has only minor cosmetic damage on one of the corners, which I really couldn't care less about. :) It might need a battery replacement sometime in the future, but for now, I still get three days out of it (with wi-fi and stuff turned off)
When you said that the device was lagging I knew it was the battery problem. My S7 Edge always gives me warnings that my Battery is failing and can't supply enough power and for same reason the performance is limitted, battery life has degraded to 4 hours of screen on time. I won't be changing the battery because I can't find original battery in my country. I have also a S9 Plus and my S21 Ultra that I use. To this day I think that the S7/S7 Edge was the best smartphone ever to exist.
That gold S7 looked beautiful, even with being from so many years ago. That was a great design. Also, I like the panning technique you do on completed repairs. 👍
This video made me wanting to get a black onyx S7 Edge again. I've been with mine for almost 4 years when I bought one in 2017 and then I sold it in 2020.
Can't agree. S10 and Fold2 are up there too. S10 is what I like to call the last great all-rounded Samsung as it was the last flagship to have all the features we could want such as a headphone jack and expandable memory. Whilst also being Samsung's first flagship featuring some new features such as triple lens setup and world's first ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Might I add, this phone feels bloody excellent to handle without a case and got the curved edges of the phone just right whereas the S7 edge wasn't that ergonomically friendly. The Fold2, innovative and excellently refined from Samsung's first attempt at a folding phone. (I didn't mention Fold3 as while that phone takes some steps forward from the Fold2, it also takes some back). Heck, the Note20 Ultra is pretty nice too.

I’ve had just about every other galaxy phone back when I was a teenager, because my mom would get a free upgrade every other year and she’d give me her old phones. I remember the s7 edge because that’s the last galaxy I got, because my mom finally jumped on the IPhone train with the 8 plus(the phone I still use to this day lol) I remember the s7 edge being the absolute coolest not just because of the curved screen, but because her edge came with the oculus attachment bundled. First experience with true VR and it was wild. It’s crazy how I’m describing it with nostalgia when it was only like 2017 lol
@@thundersquad757 Batteries bulging is ALWAYS off gassing delamination. Lithium ion batteries hate fast charging and heat. Which unfortunately is now the standard. A slow charged cooler battery can last more than 5yrs.

Samsung S7's with Snapdragon do not have unlocked bootloaders but Exynos versions do, so American S7's are not as versetile as the version everyone else has.

Love the S7 Edges, still my daily driver! My son has one as well. I know they don't get the security updates anymore, but I can't bear to replace it when it works so well still.
It's been fun using this s7 edge for almost five years, but it's time to move on. I'm switching it to Note 20 Ultra. I'm surprised that my s7 edge still looks like new out of the box after all these years of service.

There’s no way. I had the s7 at launch and had maybe 5 hours of battery life at absolute best. My note 10 gave me 17 hours of battery life and my iPhone 13 Pro max gives me just a bit more than that. I will say, my Gold s7 was one of the most beautiful phones I’ve had though.
Same here lasted 5 years no tears, scrapes, no lag or burn in or anything, works as good as it did day 1, people must be rough on their phones because you best believe I take care of something that cost me a pretty penny
12:29 as a correction, the Sprint variant (SM-G935P) is NOT bootloader unlockable, nor are all the other US carrier variants. But yes, the G935F (presumably with an AUS locale) is bootloader unlockable, though it should be noted that stock Android-based ROMs don't have many of the nifty features present on Samsung Experience/OneUI ROMs.
In the end of 2020 my S7 broke the display, I paid for a "cheap" repair, and it broke again really fast, so I just went and bought a S10, but I'd love to have the tools and parts to repair my old S7, I loved that phone a lot

I had my S7 Edge repaired by a reputable company in the UK 3 times. I put it part exchange for a Note 9 in the end. The repairer told me that the edge phones S6 Edge S7 Edge & S8 Edge have a fault with the displays.
I currently still use my active s7, awesome smartphone. Runs very efficient, still using the original battery. I cant find an excuse to upgrade to a newer phone. Other than needing G5 in the future....the only thing I hate is the burn in effect of the amoled screen, which I took care of by replacing the screen with a new one for about $80 us dollars....
I haven't seen an OEM S7E battery with a date newer than 2017. I'd be very skeptical of a battery for a phone of that vintage claiming a 2020 manufacture date.

i quite like the curved screen of my s10 plus, its just useful to show things like my edge panel, how far ive scrolled on a website and just reduces the bezel look
Been using a curved screen for 6 years and had no issue with it. Only problem came with one side of the screen protector not sticking, everything else is good

I'm about to replace the battery on my S7. It still works pretty good as a backup phone and secondary wifi device, but the battery is toast. I prefer the way it fits in my hand to my S9 plus. If I had to revert to the S7 as my main phone, I would not mind (once the battery is replaced).

I still have my S7 Edge. I got the Qualcomm variant. Battery is also original. Still working to this day! A bit sluggish due to poor RAM latency and inefficient CPU (lots of heat...) but she still holds on. Perhaps the best phone I've ever owned.
Used My S7 Edge Gold for 3 years Without any protection(no proper screen protector can be used because of curved display) untill The Screen Broke. It was usable for 2 more years if not broken. Moved to pixel because repair cost is nearly buying a new one. One of the best flagship phones Samsung ever built.
Still using my s7 edge exynos version as secondary device. Samsung official rom was way too buggy and slow and caused app crashes..Flashed Pixel rom with android 11 and now works like butter
as a technician who works ridiculous amount of hours on samsung software and hardware, i have these observations that were not mentioned in the video: The sprint motherboard, being american is a model G935P. The charging port shown on the new screen installed is a G935F, by installing the incorrect charging port (even if it fits), the antennas are not compatible and will not pick up signal. Another observation is that on the last images of the phone, you can see he showed the software information where it indicates that the software installed being G935F. So how do it go from Sprint G935P to thos oem G935F ? Both stock firmwares are not compatible so he couldnt have just 'flashed' the OEM 'F' software. I think he just used a new motherboard to fix the 'rebooting' issue on the sprint motherboard. Love your videos Hugh! Im just a nerd who also loves this line of work.
There was three phones in this video: 2x Motherboards 1x Assembled but smashed phone. The sprint branded motherboard was overheating and restarting. It wasn't fixed, I recycled that board. However I used a few of the components on the frame it was attached to for the other bare motherboard when assembling it into a frame.
I still have my S7 edge. I just replaced it with a S21+ and I have to be honest I am really disappointed. The display doesn't even compare to my S7. I was about to send it back and upgrade but even the S21 ultra doesn't have the same quality. I'm definitely keeping my S7 around for watching videos.
I had a black S7 and its battery was swollen and it was popping the back glass little bit. The phone literally exploded while charging. Thankfully it was lying on a table and no one got hurt... So if anyone has a phone with a swollen battery. Don't charge it nor use it. Replace the battery asap
These are also just some of the laggiest Samsungs I fix at my shop, so not surprising you didn't catch it at first, these truly have not stood the test of time.

the s7 edge still is sleek and clean. though i am on a note 20 ultra 5g, which is the last of the actual notes and its probably the last samsung device to come with an sd slot i miss my s7 edge quite a bit

unfortunately my S7 screen has started malfunctioning...now whenever the phone gets below 25/30 degrees °C, the screen light dims a lot and then gets black, except for the upper 0.5 cm that stays lightend up, and the bottom 0.5 cm that stays always dark even when warm. I literally have to heat up this phone with a hairdryer every 10 minutes if i want to use it, because its winter in italy :'( I guess i will have to buy a new one soon...waiting for the price of S21 FE to drop a little bit so that i can afford it...maybe :'(

I was using an S7 Edge 128 GB for more than 5 years, it got a lot of burn in on the screen and the camera was obliterated, just upgraded to an A52s 5G last week but the S7 Edge is still feature packed and lovely

My flat S7 still works great and if I had to I could still easy use it as my day to day phone. These days though it now lives in my GearVR for watching movies.

That's another problem with the majority of OLED screens, the displays are so expensive, sometimes it's more economical to just buy a new phone

Hence why I keep my Xperia XZ2. LCDs are not as power efficient as OLED and contrast is not that great but I rather have a good LCD IPS screen that I can replace for cheap than a OLED which costs the price of the whole phone.
If the display costs as much as the phone with display, someone is doing something wrong with the prices or sales process. Either the spare displays are shipped through inefficient channels compared to how the complete phones are shipped, or someone is charging artificially high or low prices depending on who buys the stuff.
Buy the same phone second hand for cheap , use the screen , and thn sell of the rest of the phone for parts.
As a Samsung S7 user, it's cool that people are still getting this phone. The specs, price, and avaliability of these used phones make it good as a tinkering device for playing around. Maybe things like dashcams, security cameras, or servers. As a daily driver, I have to be very careful not to damage it since sourcing quality replacement parts are expensive and hard to find like in the video. I hope Samsung phones enter display side on newer phones since the screens cost so much and susseptible to burn in.
This reminds me of how I have a broken Note8 set up with an app that then automatically launches Iriun Webcam so that I could use it as an overhead camera for a studio setup I'm working on.

Dude i have a silver model s7 edge and i accidentally dropped several times and it didnt crack but one day its screen cracked now its hard to type too and it costs so much even my mom doesnt repair it since i will be getting a new one

Luckily, I took good care of the phone screen with acceptable burn in. Some people experience the phone dying (most likely due to bad SSD of years of use), so I am inclined to buy a broken S7 and switch out the motherboard.

Watching this on my S7 edge. So far I have replaced the SIM tray, mother board, battery and rear glass with seal. All easy repairs and the phone is still like new!
My SIM card tray is broken as well (come on Samsung, is a metal SIM card tray that expensive) and I swapped my motherboard with one of a different S7E. My screen has a fair amount of burn in, I wanna retire the phone soon, it's served me well for coming to 6 years

I have an S7 (non-edge) version and it's a darn good phone. Extra winner is that I got it for free and has only minor cosmetic damage on one of the corners, which I really couldn't care less about. :) It might need a battery replacement sometime in the future, but for now, I still get three days out of it (with wi-fi and stuff turned off)
When you said that the device was lagging I knew it was the battery problem. My S7 Edge always gives me warnings that my Battery is failing and can't supply enough power and for same reason the performance is limitted, battery life has degraded to 4 hours of screen on time. I won't be changing the battery because I can't find original battery in my country. I have also a S9 Plus and my S21 Ultra that I use.
To this day I think that the S7/S7 Edge was the best smartphone ever to exist.
My all time favorite Samsungs are S7 edge , note 10+ and note 20 ultra

S10 is what I like to call the last great all-rounded Samsung as it was the last flagship to have all the features we could want such as a headphone jack and expandable memory. Whilst also being Samsung's first flagship featuring some new features such as triple lens setup and world's first ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Might I add, this phone feels bloody excellent to handle without a case and got the curved edges of the phone just right whereas the S7 edge wasn't that ergonomically friendly.
The Fold2, innovative and excellently refined from Samsung's first attempt at a folding phone. (I didn't mention Fold3 as while that phone takes some steps forward from the Fold2, it also takes some back).
Heck, the Note20 Ultra is pretty nice too.
Note 8 and 9 are literally better in every way than the 7, features, design etc

I’ve had just about every other galaxy phone back when I was a teenager, because my mom would get a free upgrade every other year and she’d give me her old phones. I remember the s7 edge because that’s the last galaxy I got, because my mom finally jumped on the IPhone train with the 8 plus(the phone I still use to this day lol)
I remember the s7 edge being the absolute coolest not just because of the curved screen, but because her edge came with the oculus attachment bundled. First experience with true VR and it was wild. It’s crazy how I’m describing it with nostalgia when it was only like 2017 lol

The S7 reboot issue happens when the front camera isn't installed.
The lag can also be caused by a massive number of log files on the eMMC chip.

@@thundersquad757 Batteries bulging is ALWAYS off gassing delamination. Lithium ion batteries hate fast charging and heat. Which unfortunately is now the standard. A slow charged cooler battery can last more than 5yrs.

Samsung S7's with Snapdragon do not have unlocked bootloaders but Exynos versions do, so American S7's are not as versetile as the version everyone else has.
The Sprint one definetly was SD,but the 2 fixed ones are G935F in the model number which means they are international Exynos models

There’s no way. I had the s7 at launch and had maybe 5 hours of battery life at absolute best. My note 10 gave me 17 hours of battery life and my iPhone 13 Pro max gives me just a bit more than that. I will say, my Gold s7 was one of the most beautiful phones I’ve had though.
Same here lasted 5 years no tears, scrapes, no lag or burn in or anything, works as good as it did day 1, people must be rough on their phones because you best believe I take care of something that cost me a pretty penny

12:29 as a correction, the Sprint variant (SM-G935P) is NOT bootloader unlockable, nor are all the other US carrier variants. But yes, the G935F (presumably with an AUS locale) is bootloader unlockable, though it should be noted that stock Android-based ROMs don't have many of the nifty features present on Samsung Experience/OneUI ROMs.
In the end of 2020 my S7 broke the display, I paid for a "cheap" repair, and it broke again really fast, so I just went and bought a S10, but I'd love to have the tools and parts to repair my old S7, I loved that phone a lot

I had my S7 Edge repaired by a reputable company in the UK 3 times. I put it part exchange for a Note 9 in the end. The repairer told me that the edge phones S6 Edge S7 Edge & S8 Edge have a fault with the displays.
I currently still use my active s7, awesome smartphone. Runs very efficient, still using the original battery. I cant find an excuse to upgrade to a newer phone. Other than needing G5 in the future....the only thing I hate is the burn in effect of the amoled screen, which I took care of by replacing the screen with a new one for about $80 us dollars....
I haven't seen an OEM S7E battery with a date newer than 2017. I'd be very skeptical of a battery for a phone of that vintage claiming a 2020 manufacture date.
I bet they just use the same battery model for different (newer) phones.
My S7 edge was made in April 2018, and I got a battery replacement March 2021 at a Samsung authorized repair shop

Curved screens are terrible, not only for ergonomics and usability but also repairabilty.
i quite like the curved screen of my s10 plus, its just useful to show things like my edge panel, how far ive scrolled on a website and just reduces the bezel look
Been using a curved screen for 6 years and had no issue with it. Only problem came with one side of the screen protector not sticking, everything else is good

I'm about to replace the battery on my S7. It still works pretty good as a backup phone and secondary wifi device, but the battery is toast. I prefer the way it fits in my hand to my S9 plus. If I had to revert to the S7 as my main phone, I would not mind (once the battery is replaced).

I still have my S7 Edge. I got the Qualcomm variant. Battery is also original. Still working to this day! A bit sluggish due to poor RAM latency and inefficient CPU (lots of heat...) but she still holds on. Perhaps the best phone I've ever owned.
Used My S7 Edge Gold for 3 years Without any protection(no proper screen protector can be used because of curved display) untill The Screen Broke. It was usable for 2 more years if not broken. Moved to pixel because repair cost is nearly buying a new one. One of the best flagship phones Samsung ever built.
Still using my s7 edge exynos version as secondary device. Samsung official rom was way too buggy and slow and caused app crashes..Flashed Pixel rom with android 11 and now works like butter

as a technician who works ridiculous amount of hours on samsung software and hardware, i have these observations that were not mentioned in the video:
The sprint motherboard, being american is a model G935P. The charging port shown on the new screen installed is a G935F, by installing the incorrect charging port (even if it fits), the antennas are not compatible and will not pick up signal.
Another observation is that on the last images of the phone, you can see he showed the software information where it indicates that the software installed being G935F. So how do it go from Sprint G935P to thos oem G935F ? Both stock firmwares are not compatible so he couldnt have just 'flashed' the OEM 'F' software. I think he just used a new motherboard to fix the 'rebooting' issue on the sprint motherboard.

1x Assembled but smashed phone.
The sprint branded motherboard was overheating and restarting. It wasn't fixed, I recycled that board.
However I used a few of the components on the frame it was attached to for the other bare motherboard when assembling it into a frame.
I still have my S7 edge. I just replaced it with a S21+ and I have to be honest I am really disappointed. The display doesn't even compare to my S7. I was about to send it back and upgrade but even the S21 ultra doesn't have the same quality. I'm definitely keeping my S7 around for watching videos.
I had a black S7 and its battery was swollen and it was popping the back glass little bit. The phone literally exploded while charging. Thankfully it was lying on a table and no one got hurt...
So if anyone has a phone with a swollen battery. Don't charge it nor use it. Replace the battery asap

the s7 edge still is sleek and clean. though i am on a note 20 ultra 5g, which is the last of the actual notes and its probably the last samsung device to come with an sd slot i miss my s7 edge quite a bit

unfortunately my S7 screen has started malfunctioning...now whenever the phone gets below 25/30 degrees °C, the screen light dims a lot and then gets black, except for the upper 0.5 cm that stays lightend up, and the bottom 0.5 cm that stays always dark even when warm. I literally have to heat up this phone with a hairdryer every 10 minutes if i want to use it, because its winter in italy :'(
I guess i will have to buy a new one soon...waiting for the price of S21 FE to drop a little bit so that i can afford it...maybe :'(

I was using an S7 Edge 128 GB for more than 5 years, it got a lot of burn in on the screen and the camera was obliterated, just upgraded to an A52s 5G last week but the S7 Edge is still feature packed and lovely
