  • Join us this week on Shamwari Private Game Reserve as we follow up on the nomadic male lion. This beautiful young male predominantly roams in territory of the southern pride of lions, and as of yet, there hasn't been any serious interactions between him and the southern pride. He seems to thrive in his independence and has proven to be a formidable and effective hunter.

Wow such a beautiful and healthy nomadic male this shatters what people think lions can't do such as living on their own they are perfectly capable of living on their own and hunt alone just like every other cat.

Absolutely gorgeous boy. I hope he's successful in life and lives to be an old male.

So he's still alone, without any other male to make an alliance with, it's sad, it's not what you had thought for him... I hope he gets closer to the Lionesses, it's time for him to have little ones…handsome Jack💞

Thank you so much for elaborating about the current situation of the nomadic lion. Do you use some specific designation other than the descriptive ‘the nomadic male’ for this nomad? I know you do not use his name used in Addo NP, so I was wondering about that. I am not certain if I already asked this before. If I have, I do not remember the answer🤭🤷 Anyway I must say the nomad looks sublime. In a previous clip you mentioned that he is around seven years of age, so he is in his prime, and it shows. I am eager to find what other effects will result from his presence other than the formation of this unusual father and son coalition. Thanks again and take care👌🏽🦁

We don’t have specific names for animals on the reserve, but sure to Most he will always be known as Jack. We will keep on following and bringing you updates - but yes the dynamics at the moment seem to be quite interesting and will keep tabs on everything. Thanks for questions and glad you enjoyed it❤️🦁

Filming wildlife is always a difficult job. The crew is not always on the reserve and when they are, a hunt is sometimes over in minutes, but we can’t wait to bring to you that footage and sure it will happen

Thanks for the update. So since he was introduced to Shamwari to increase the gene pool for your lion population, are you actually happy with his development so far? It’s been 1 1/2 years now and nothing much has changed. Do you expect him to go for one of the prides one day or is it maybe that he’s gotten so used to his nomadic life and adapted so well to it that he doesn’t feel the urge to change anything? And are there even ways for you guys to actively influence the situation?
