- Will the Garmin Striker Vivid CV fishfinder transducer overheat when inside the hull of your kayak? We tested the Striker 4 CV GT20 transducer on this 90+ degree day to find out if the transducer gets to hot when outside of the water. Is this a safe fishfinder transducer mounting location? We test the transducer in various scenarios to find out.

You really need to reach out to Garmin and see if you ccan get some sponsorship from them as you have done such a great job on the video of these units. keep up the great work my friend!
Maybe one day they will reach out...till then I will continue to share :)
Hope all is well with you
@@1Cast1Fish hanging in there hope you are doing well too.
Man you sure know your stuff and you have all the right tools to get the job done.
Now that's a definite thumbs up for you suffering all that heat for us to make another informative video. 👍
Thanks, it was brutal out there....honestly near the end I just wished it would end :)
Excellent video. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
If you put the kayak in the water, where it would normally be during use i think the temp would be much lower. You have not tested it under it's normal operating condition.
Thanks you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
This was awesome
Glad you liked it :)
I love this program, because I have a garmin vivid 5
Awesome to hear, the 5 is basically the exact same as the 4, just a little bigger screen.
Hopefully you could answer my question good sir. If I mount the GT20 inside my kayak hatch (the correct way) will Clear Vu still work the same ? Or am I stuck without it? Thank you .
If done correctly, in most cases it should work
You don't take into account the surface temperature of the water which should bring the temp down a bit.
Most likely it will have a slight cooling effect, but our water temps are typically very warm in summer
I obviously can't fit my vivid 4 transducing my Moken 12.5 sonar pod. Can I still mount it in my hull? Don't want it dragging underneath. This should work, correct? Do I mount it with silicone or plumbers putty? Thank you for your time and effort.
I use Duct Seal...Plumbers putty is close, but harder I believe. I like to remove mine sometimes for other uses, so I have not done Silicone.
Hey thanks for the video. Question for you, Any idea how much more battery power will the Vivid transducer use over the Striker 4?? Im trying to decide between the two models, I had a Striker 4 and during a fishing trip it just died, so I'm a little reluctant to go back to the same model, but if the vivid uses a lot more power, then it might die during a longer day on the water. Thoughts?
Following because I’m deciding between the two right now. I plan on using a nocqua 12v 10ah battery to power it. 300w vs 200w transducer will definitely change power consumption on the battery.
Base Model
Typical Draw: .23 amps
Max Draw: 1 amp
Vivid
Typical Draw: .40 amps
Max Draw: 1.5 amp
As you can see the vivid typical draw will be higher than the base model.
Now assume a 10 amp hour battery and you want a 75% draw down max
7.5/.23 = 32 hours
7.5/.40 = 18.75 hours
Hope this helps
See above :)
@@1Cast1Fish Wow.Thanks for this info. Much appreciated. Im leaning towards the vivid right now. Mainly for the clearer visuals. Thanks Paul for all your information on your videos. Very well done Sir.
Thank you
I feel a little dimwitted asking this question, but which end of the gt20 should face the front of my kayak. I have a Striker plus 4cv on order.
it doesnt matter how you place it it only needs to be leveld it can be a little off level but not to much.
Honestly with traditional sonar only, it really does not matter much as it is a 3D cone and regardless of direction you will still have a cone. When it comes to the GT20 and Clear Vu, It still does not matter 100%, but I tend to put my GT20 in the bow of my kayak in the same orientation as if it was on the back of a boat. Now if you ever get into a unit with Side Vu...then it 100% matters that the orientation is correct.

I just got a striker 5 vivid but can’t seem to get the quick contours to work. It says location unknown. Any tips or do you have a video I can watch? I’ve watched some of your other videos but couldn’t find a solution.
I do not, but sounds like a GPS issue maybe. Is GPS signal good?
@@1Cast1Fish ya the gps signal is good I’m going to try messing with the gps settings then factory reset then refund or replacement. Garmin was really fast getting back to me. Awesome customer service.
Honestly thats the main reason I switched and run all Garmin products now, the CS has always been great.
how much is the max depth this 300watt transducer in salt water on a normal day with not so much clear water?
The manual says around 800ft...so in general I just half that for realistic max depths.
Can you help me understand why when I try to create a quick draw map on my unit all I see is a green box and it never forms the map? Thanks
Could the area you are in be of the same depth?
Is the maps set to record the info?
Are you using the correct process?
Select Quickdraw Map > Menu button > Quickdraw Contours > Start Recording.
When recording is complete, select Menu button > Quickdraw Contours > Stop Recording.
It is also speed dependent and I find slower speeds result in better data recording
I have taken the unit out on my kayak multiple times, all different depths. I use the record function, see it recording but never see a map form, only a green box the whole time. I never go pass 5mph on my motorized kayak. I will reset my device and try it out on the lake again tomorrow, maybe even record a video to show you if that's alright. Thanks!@@1Cast1Fish
Might not hurt to give Garmin CS a call as well, they are very helpful and can even help you while out on the water troubleshoot.
Will the 4.4ah support the striker 4 vc?
Yes, you should get at least a full day out of it.
What do you need to mount inside hull
