I have 4cv and use in a upper harbor scenario mostly. I find clear vue works best on fast scroll at slower speeds for accurately getting on top of guts that target species use to get to and from shallower feeding areas. Among all videos on sonars I have watched so far, yours are clearly the best: to the point, concise, and clear. I have a brief question. Comparing the specs of the recently released Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv to those of Striker Plus 4cv, it seems that the only difference is that the Vivid has new color palettes. Apart form that it is essentially the same unit, isn't it?
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks, I suspected so. Yet another brief question if you don't mind. I guess you have been asked it more than once but I didn't manage to find it in comments. Given that Garmin is replacing their Striker Plus line by the Vivid, there are very interesting offers of Plus 5cv that are starting to pop up. Yeah some of the really advanced sonars are $3,000 or more....crazy how much technology they put into these things. Even funnier though is that people pay thousands for a advanced sonar and never learn how to use it to the fullest.
Thanks again for your garmin series. While your doing comparisons, can you comment on the Ecomap series of fishfinder. I kayak on the Northern California coast and inland lakes. Questions: 1. Are they as waterproof as the Striker series? 2. Are the charts preloaded in the units adequate or are there better charts for the California coast and inland lakes? 3. Could this work on a kayak? I have been caught in the fog where you can’t see the coastline, but I used the waypoints to get home (thank you for the instruction). I thought it would be nice to visualize the coastline if I’m ever stuck in the fog again. I continually return to your channel for instruction. Keep up the good work.
Wish I could help more, but I am not familiar with the Echo Series fish finders....here is what I do know 1. Are they as waterproof as the Striker series? Yes, they have the same IPX-7 rating 2. At the 3:27- 3:30 mark there is mention of depth, speed and temperature. What is meant by speed...the mph of boat while moving? Is this displayed on the traditional view screen as one of the numbers under the temperature? Is this covered in your tutorials...which one? Thanks much for clarifying. Several days later I contacted Garvin chat and got an answer---yes, the 3rd # down in list on sonar screen. Disappointed to be told that the owners manual was stopped being included with unit, but it is online at the site. See p. 3.
@@1Cast1Fish I legit just picked up the 4CV tonight about 5 mins ago thanks to this video. Will hopefully get to use it a few times before the snow hits🙏
Very well done! However, now the Vivid 4CV is out on the market. I'm guessing you would not have the Clear View functionality unless you were using the supplied transducer. So my question is is it worth it to get the top of the line when the supplied transducer can't be used when ice fishing?
Congratulations! First video with essential information to define a good purchase. Thank you for the informations. Do you have comparison of Striker 4cv Plus vs Striker 5cv Plus? Grateful.
Ive just brought a striker 4 plus. Will the GT20 transducer pair with this unit? Or will it be better to use the dual beam that came with it... I have the gt20 already attached from my last unit 45c.v
The 4 Plus is 1 step above the base model and includes the Quick Draw Map features, the Plus model does not have the Clear Vu (Down Scan) imaging. The GT 20 is used for Clear VU.
Thanks for this video as it really helped my choice. So I just ordered the plus 4 cv. Do you know if the plus 4 and the plus 4 cv use the same transducer?
No they do not the CV models have a bigger transducer that gives you the down imaging capability. The Plus shares the same transducer as the standard base model Striker
My dad got a new boat and we are planning going deep 10-80 feet maybe more, is it worth buying the plus just for the bigger screen and the map feature? I’m fine paying 150 max
Hey Is the cv worth it in a kayak. I’m mostly in lakes and reservoirs, but most of the time I’m either slowly paddling or drifting along with the wind. Do you need to be moving/going a certain speed for cv to be useful or does it work while anchored/slowly drifting? Thanks!
The CV is a great choice if your really picking apart structure or want a better graphic image of what's under the kayak....or if you got the extra cash and want the most features. In most instances the Plus model is the best model for the majority of average anglers.
I've watched your video on installing a transducer in the hull of a kayak, I would think that would effect the out come of the performance of the transducer, or does it?
I wish I have seen this video before I have ordered my garmin strike 4 , it’s nice video explaining the difference between the three units. Is garmin striker 4 good enough for onshore kayak fishing ? In our country the sea is very deep just few distance the sea can be up to 100m deep.
Fishing for pelagics in deep water where I mostly just need to find bait balls and schools of tuna. Looks like maybe the basic model would be fine? Do the larger screens make a noticeable difference in being able to see the details on the screen?
Honestly if I was targeting those types of fish and conditions a larger screen would be better. once you get over about 100ft or so...you will wish you had a bigger screen normally...just makes the smaller sized targets easier to see.
i am new to fishing...i am interested and my #1 need is to be able to come back to port from where i left off in case of heavy rain and fog wherein visibility is zero....will the GPS feature work on this? i will be using it in rivers in Asia....since we can not download maps to it. thanks
Yes it will work...however I would definitely recommend the 4 Plus for this type of thing. Bigger screen, and the contour mapping may be useful. Also I never recommend going out if conditions are that bad or expected to be bad.
Another great video. You're fun to watch. I have a 27.5 foot pleasure boat that does not have a depth finder and I'd like to know how far I am from the bottom when I drop anchor. I bought the Striker 4 and have not yet installed it. Then, I watched this video and thought it would maybe be worth the extra coinage for the plus 4 cv. However, I noticed the pixels are not as good on the 4 inch models and i appreciate sharper images. Though the fish finding capability is an added bonus, I really just want to know the depth of the water I'm in and don't fish as much as I'd like to. So, perhaps I'm good with what I got. What is your opinion of the lower quality resolution of the 4 inch models? Money is not really an issue, I don't mind spending more money for a better product.
I would go with the Striker Plus model, this will give you the added contour feature which will be very helpful in the long run. Don't get caught up on the pixels, the screens are plenty clear. Also if you want a bigger screen, look at the 5 and 7 series fish finders, a bit more money, but a much bigger screen, which may be useful on a 27' boat.
Teriffic video! Are there any drawbacks to mounting these to the hull of my kayak (using duct seal) Especially curious about the 4cv vivid scanning tech. I fish a pretty shallow lake (8ft max). Trying to figure out my best option. Thanks in advance and keep up the great videos! 👍 Also - Is there a way to find a template for the base? I want to know if my RAM mount 7 holed baseplate will fit.
Should work fine thru hull...just make sure the mounting for the transducer is solid and no air gaps.....as far as mounts the one I use is linked in the description …that is the only one I have tried.
The Plus 4 is great, and can be found discounted sometimes. Also Look at the Vivid 4, as it can be found for only a few $ more when on sale. For Battery, look in the description links, I love the Nocqua 10Ah...last's many trips.
Resolution is pretty good considering screen size and price. No the wiring for the low end transducer will not work with the CV, they are 2 different transducers.
Depends...most have no issues, but a few have. Most issues are from bad mounting though. Gotta make sure there is no air gap and things sit even and horizontal with the water
@@1Cast1Fish Ah I see. I purchased the Plus 4 and was planning on mounting the transducer on the inside like you did in one of your videos. I'm wondering if mounted correctly the CV transducer will work the same. Deciding if I should return the one I got for the CV or just stick with what I have for my kayak. Any thoughts?
The CV will work in most scenarios without issue, most issues are poor mounting... however I have seen a few that did not work for whatever reason, but it is rare.
Great video, I'm interesting in purchasing a Garmin striker 4. Do you have any videos in "how to install the transducer "? I have a small 12 foot Alumacraft. I've seen it installed on the left & right sides or on the trolling motor. Any assistance would be great. You are spreading a great depth of knowledge about the depth finder. Your presentation is well delivered and in a very simple form of instruction.👍🐟
I have a few with installing the transducer inside the hull, but on a a kayak. Where are you mounting the fish finder? If on the bow, I would do a trolling motor mount...if in the rear or on a mid console I would mount it on the rear. If you have an outboard you want to go behind your boat and then mount it to the right side....not left. The install instructions are also pretty good with templates if needed as well.
@@1Cast1Fish I want to mount the depth finder on the starboard side in the middle portion of the boat. Should I mount the transducer on the trolling motor which I using from the rear? A friend mentioned mounting the transducer in the front to see what's in front instead of underneath. Any advice would help. Thanks for replying.👍
Something that's striking (😅) to me is the higher screen resolution spec on the Stryker 4 model compared to the Plus or CV. Is the lower res on the more expensive models noticeable in real-world use?
I think the other factor is that the Vivid and CV have a slightly larger screen area and that messes with the resolution. I honestly can not tell a difference
Have you tried the echomap plus 45cv? I can’t find any info or vs striker vids… It seems like the echomap is a better version with all the same features of the striker series
I have not tried the Echomap 45cv, however I do have the Echomap 106 Ultras. The Echomap is a better product IMO, but does come with a steeper price point. I think the best feature is the ability to run map cards, and update the units via SD card.
@@1Cast1Fish thanks for the quick response, I found the echomap plus 45cv on sale for $299 CAD, originally $479 until April 30… it’s like $50 bucks more then the vivid, at that price in Canada. BTW your vids are awesome
I just bought the striker 4cv based on your tutorial. Do you have any tutorials on the cv? I had the striker 4 for several years, and it was a great little depth finder but I felt it was time for a step up.
So I did purchase a Garmin striker vivid CV and I checked the list of transducer types. With the new model I purchased I get the Garmin GT20 Transducer and I connected it to the boat. My old one was the Dual Frequency 200/50 khz Transducer. I have 2 of the 200/50khz one for the boat and one for ice fishing and now I know that the vivid has a list of transducer types then I should be able to use other transducers as long as you select the right one. So I connected the dual transducer 200/50khz to the vivid and selected the correct Dual Frequency and it works however you will not get the clear view imaging. So it is nice to know that Garmin gives us more opportunities to use old transducer types or purchase newer ones. Not sure if this is a safe practice and I do not want to damage anything but so far so good.
So on the mapping, which is an awesome feature as I fish mostly small reservoirs, does it store the various maps that it makes, or are the maps only there for that one trip? thanks. awesome videos btw.
Any idea on the difference between the STRIKER plus 4cv and the STRIKER vivid 4cv? I see a $10 price difference online. But can't seem to find out what the difference is. 🤔

I do not a video comparing the 4 vs the 5, but I can tell you they are the same pretty much except the 5 has a slightly larger screen.
Great job that help me a bunch keep up the great video
Glad to hear it!
Hi Can i attach striker plus 4 or striker 4 on my remote control boat … without cable between transducer and the main device ?
Thanks a lot
Sorry you can not
does the contour lines change when you drive over it again?
Should not unless you have a depth change of over 1ft
Ive just brought a striker 4 plus. Will the GT20 transducer pair with this unit? Or will it be better to use the dual beam that came with it... I have the gt20 already attached from my last unit 45c.v
The 4 Plus is 1 step above the base model and includes the Quick Draw Map features, the Plus model does not have the Clear Vu (Down Scan) imaging. The GT 20 is used for Clear VU.
Man, they're really making those things with some great features. They didn't have that auto-mapping when I bought mine a few years ago.
That mapping is by far the coolest feature on them...I would have bought the Plus model if I had it to do over again.
Thanks a lot, man. Your tutorial helped me a lot. Thanks for sharing this video.
Awesome glad to hear that
Great description video as usual!
Can you please explain which end of the transducer is pointing forward/backward?
Normally the side with the cord coming from it is the front (part mounted to the boat rear)
@@1Cast1Fish The cord is located in the middle...
Definitely go Plus...you will love the contour mapping
1Cast 1Fish ok thank you sooo much you helped me figure out how to use and catch the most fish, definitely subbed and liked!👍👍👍👍 I will get the plus
Awesome any questions just let me know
Woow so nice sir thank you for being identified the item will be on use current location for fishing area.
Best of luck
Nope no issues if installed correctly
I wish I have seen this video before I have ordered my garmin strike 4 , it’s nice video explaining the difference between the three units.
Is garmin striker 4 good enough for onshore kayak fishing ?
In our country the sea is very deep just few distance the sea can be up to 100m deep.
Should work fine ...its great for kayaking
Awesome !! Thanks 😊 from 🇰🇷
Thank you too!
any insight on striker 4cv vs striker 4 vivid cv? thanks in advance !
Honestly I have not seen or messed with the Vivid line -up at all.
Another superb video clear and concise thank you Nick UK
Very welcome...thank you for watching
Great tutorial for fishing. Thank you for sharing. 💞
Glad you enjoyed it
How do they compare on power consumption? Thinking of going with the Nocqua Pro 10 Ah Pro Power battery and the Striker Plus 4cv.
I got 30+ non stop hours on my 10 Ah and Striker 4....it will last a long time on what ever fish finder you choose.
Very helpful. Great job with your videos.
Thank you very much
Fishing for pelagics in deep water where I mostly just need to find bait balls and schools of tuna.
Question: Does Garmin make a fish finder that also includes maps? I plan to do a lot of inshore fishing on rivers and inlets. Thanks!
So if you want "Real" mapping look at the Echomap Series...they have preloaded maps and can take SD mapping cards.
@@1Cast1Fish Thank you!
i am new to fishing...i am interested and my #1 need is to be able to come back to port from where i left off in case of heavy rain and fog wherein visibility is zero....will the GPS feature work on this? i will be using it in rivers in Asia....since we can not download maps to it. thanks
Yes it will work...however I would definitely recommend the 4 Plus for this type of thing. Bigger screen, and the contour mapping may be useful. Also I never recommend going out if conditions are that bad or expected to be bad.
Any of these model have side scan feature?
Where you can detect fish swimming beside the boat?
No, the 4 series does not...you need a model that had the Side Vu
Do the 4+ and 4+cv have the flasher feature?
YEP
@@1Cast1FishThank you, Oh Great One. Also, of the 5 and 7 series, do you have any solid recommendations?
I would still stick with the Plus models since the contour mapping is really nice....especially on a bigger boat with a deeper draft.
Also - Is there a way to find a template for the base? I want to know if my RAM mount 7 holed baseplate will fit.
Should work fine thru hull...just make sure the mounting for the transducer is solid and no air gaps.....as far as mounts the one I use is linked in the description …that is the only one I have tried.
Hmm, tough choice for kayak on ponds and lakes. I think plus 4 is enough for me. Also am looking for battery or solar panel for this.
The Plus 4 is great, and can be found discounted sometimes. Also Look at the Vivid 4, as it can be found for only a few $ more when on sale.
For Battery, look in the description links, I love the Nocqua 10Ah...last's many trips.
Two questions: how is the screen resolution on the CV and will existing transducer wiring from the low end 4 work with the CV?
Resolution is pretty good considering screen size and price. No the wiring for the low end transducer will not work with the CV, they are 2 different transducers.
Great video as always. Quick question do they use the same cable? And transducer?
No they do not...the units with CV have a special transducer.
Great videos! Question. Do you have to mount the Plus CV transducer outside or can it also be inside like the others?
Very helpful. Thank you
Appreciate you watching!
Ok, so your trolling motor is on the rear...I would place the transducer on the starboard side rear. front may pick up alot of interferance.
@@1Cast1Fish Thank you 0nce again, " Keep your lines tight!"
You as well
Awesome video and great information as always my friend!
Thanks again!
Brilliant, thanks.
You're welcome!
Awesome video bro, very helpful.
Glad to hear it! Thanks
Do all 3 model have a flasher capability for ice fishing?
Yes they do
hi sir, do you have a video to show how to mount the fish finder? Thanks.

@@1Cast1Fish thank you sir

Awesome video with a great deal of information.
Thank you!
Great video thank you for the time you put into this! Great help!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you
Excellent video...clear, concise, well organized and great comparison visuals of the diff models.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
@@jasoncoleman8687 Heck of a deal...I would probably go Echomap too. Glad you enjoy the videos...Thank You
Thank you, that was a good explanation.
Glad you liked it...Thank you
I to like your series so helpful for me never used one
Never to late to start and learn...just by learning how to use a fish finder to its fullest puts you way ahead of a lot of others on the water.
I just bought the striker 4cv based on your tutorial. Do you have any tutorials on the cv? I had the striker 4 for several years, and it was a great little depth finder but I felt it was time for a step up.
Don't tell anyone, but I think there may be a new CV in my near future :)
how to order garmin striker4 pluscv sir thank you for sharing this video
Check out the links in the description....they are for sale on Amazon
It creates a map. Are you able to view them on a pc without the unit? Can you save it to a card I guess is my question? Thanks
Sorry no cards for the Striker 4
Do all three of these Garmins use the same transducer?
No they do not...the CV models have a different transducer
Very helpful video. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!

So on the mapping, which is an awesome feature as I fish mostly small reservoirs, does it store the various maps that it makes, or are the maps only there for that one trip? thanks. awesome videos btw.
It will keep them and add to them each trip
Any idea on the difference between the STRIKER plus 4cv and the STRIKER vivid 4cv? I see a $10 price difference online. But can't seem to find out what the difference is. 🤔
The Vivid has additional color pallets for the CV
@@1Cast1Fish I've been looking all over and couldn't find a difference. THANK YOU!!👍
No problem
