Saw arrived yesterday ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and today I cut about 3/4 cord of wood with it. Make sure you get an extension chord that is at least 12 gauge wire, minimum. This is my first electric in about 10 years, and things sure have improved. The self-sharpener works great, and it just kept cutting through some pretty decent logs. Wear your eye protection, and ear protection. Excellent saw.

I really like the simplicity of the echo, owned a small one in the past. Never owned or ran a husky. Currently have a stihl. No complaints with the stihl. I realize these are all straight out of the box with no tuning but that stihl just sounded so crisp when running compared to the other two.

    • @Wingnut353

They actually said tuning the carb would void the warranty on mine when they sold my MS180 to me.... that is a significant amount of faith in factory tuning. And it did in fact seem that the Echo and Huskvarna weren't quite right in this video... we've had all 3 brands in the family over the years especially Huskvara and Johnsered though... I kind of expected more from them than this showing. Also... people tuning by ear tend to lean out too much... and burn their engines up due to lack of lubrication (as the lub is getting burned also) fuel lubed engines are suppost to run a hair rich and thats usually indicated in the manual on how to tune them (like a quarter turn back from lean etc....).

I have the Stihl 170 and the echo 352. Both fire up cold right away. The echo is more powerful, but the Stihl is just fantastic. You can't go wrong with either, and I'm a Stihl fanboy.

Ive had my Stihl 170 for 3 years, always use the caned 92 octane no ethanol fuel. When it was new started and ran great. Used it for about 10-20 hours, now I can't get this saw to start for the life of me, small engine repair shop last year said I needed a new carb, okay $100 later the saw still wont start. I guess I got a bad one? Not too sold on Stihl right now.

@@io3010 That’s why I prefer echo over stihl, once I had a stihl fs 55 no starting, cleaned the spark arrester, then run fin for few days, then again hard to star, bought a new Chinese carb, worked fine, then problem came back, got new ignition coil because spark was weak, started and run fine for a day, I gave up on that thing, my 4 years old echo trimmer starts easy and run like a champ

Very good comparison between the three machines. I have the Stihl ms170. It is a quality machine. I also own a Stihl leaf blower. It is high quality as well. I own a straight shaft Echo brush cutter and a Echo curved shaft weed trimmer. If I had to buy a new larger chainsaw, I would purchase an Echo. I've worked on all three brands. Echo in my opinion performs better with less maintenance.

You say Stihl is the best, but do you know the MS-170 is replaced by MS-162? The 162 has single bar nut that is connected to the translucent soft fuel tank. These two things allow bar deflection when swinging cut brush to the right. It also weighs more than the 170 and has less power.
I love Stihl and wish they would charge more $ to provide the most durable, best performing saw in the price group as they did before.
I ended up returning the 162 and getting an older Echo 352 (year 2021) Gotta say, the 352 sounds slow, but is not worn-in and I've not cut with it.

And the amount of times I’ve bumped the kill switch off half way through a cut is annoying (it’s in a crappy spot). But worst of all on the Husky: the chain sprocket is on the inside clutch outside.Mine has just jumped a chain an destroyed the oil pump. I remember reading about the development of a few new 2 stroke improvements like a decade or more back and it appers Stihl is using them not sure about the other two... Sthil is calling it 2-MIX. It appears the both do the same thing by putting an unfueled air buffer between the fuel and the burned air... I guess husky just had more issues with thier designs on that engine series.

Idk about the mark one BUT, I bought two new Husky mark2 BEASTS almost a year ago(1 last winter and one this year) abuse them everyday. Idles okay, high rev cold starts 3-5 pulls everytime, only use veggie oil and 50/1 cheap motor oil with cheap gas, never put the damn things away, always leave them out in the rain/sun/snow, accidently put oil in the gas tank cleaned it out ran just fine, dropped it, kicked it, keep letting trees fall on it.
They do not come adjusted properly from factory, so i got a cheap carb adjustment kit on amazon and tried to make it run half decent. I've cut at least a couple hundred cedars big and small with the 16 inch bar, will take down many 14-16 inch diameter trees easy . Only had to change the plug and clean the spark arrester screen a couple of days ago on my main saw, it was blacker than toby's arse! Only other repair was a new side cover cause since broke the plasteek that holds the bar adjustment screw by forcing the wrong bar on it. Main felling saw still runs great, the mill saw from last winter is slowly dying from over abuse, though i got plenty of use out of them already not bad at all for around 300$cad

My dad's 30 year old huskvarna learned how to fly cutting a mimosa tree that snapped while he was cutting it .... probably the most dangerous situation I've ever seen with a chainsaw myself but the saw itself ran fine after that even if it was a bit banged up. It was an extremely strong mimosa tree... probalby because it was growing right on a creek bank... too bad we had to cut it it was interesting to watch it's leaves fold up when it rained etc... It's a real shame huskyvarna doesn't adjust the saws properly I know they invested a ton of money locally in engine test facilities you'd think they could get it right.

    • @JanMaesOutdoorTraining
      @JanMaesOutdoorTraining  4 года назад +1

Hi Clif, that's a very good comment, first of all chainsaws and forestry is a very conservative world and second of all is has to see with safety regulations. All machines need to be tested by a manufacturer according the machine directive. In some cases when the machine doesn't pass the kick back test it isn't CE certified.

Trying to learn about chainsaws, this is a great review but is the only difference between the 90px and 91px Echo the chain? The Echo website only shows one 90px chain, and indicates it is for the electric model. It also specifies different guide bars for each which indicates you cannot use either chain with the Echo 310 (unless you change guide bars?). The 90px cuts faster, but are there any disadvantages (ie. faster wear)? Which chain does the Echo 310 come with out of the box in the US? Also, does "ES" stand for "easy start"? I cannot find this model

Even after going to the dealer its still not running good, which is funny cause every time i went to the dealer they were less than fucking useless. I gave them my saw so I didn't have to void the warranty by adjusting the carb myself, guy left for like 10mins came back started it idled for a few seconds so I went back home cause i'm not wasting anymore time there, started it again and i'm 99% sure they did NOTHING to it cause it stalled the exact same as before if not worse.
My father gave them his Husky Rancher saw which was running like crap, it took them a week to order the parts and 2weeks to fix it and it ran even worse when it came back.
I brought my saw back in for the last time when I discovered the side cover wouldn't go back on properly after chain derailed, at first I thought the cover was deformed and asked if they could try to fit a replacement to see if that would help. I had a mechanic from the shop look at it, as well as the same guy who didn't help me before, and new hire who didn't understand how engines work. I must have waited at the desk for at least 20mins for these 3 stooges to not fix anything and ontop of it, the dude from before still tried to sell me the cover even though it didn't fit... When I got back home and took a good look at the saw for a few minutes and realized the metal bar plate very obviously bulged out from the chain derailing and going past the half eaten chain catcher. 5 min assessment and fix with Dremel tool. Decent product, bad service experiences.

AVOID STIHL. I have a part defect issue on my MS391 (RRP £650 now) as the cylinder head thread has worn to the point of not starting at all as the spark plug is wobbling about. Stihl insist that it is a wear & tear issue and won't offer any restitution, despite the light garden only use which I reckon is maybe 6 weekend's use per year over 4 years of ownership. I was quoted £275 repair cost on the £650 saw. Crazy. It's quite possibly going to the landfill site now.
