    Thank you for this! It's actually very helpful for me because I'm working on a book that involves a character who transitioned from Military Police to civilian policing. Even though my book is science fiction, I want the details right.
    One thing I couldn't help but think was that maybe I'll need to give my character a little more use of acronyms. Your friend used a lot of them! I don't want to give too much detail, but your friend actually gave me a lot of great information that helps some of the other details of this character as well.
    Thank you for your videos on military life. I don't always comment, but I appreciate them. I love an insider view and you might guess that for my novel writing, I want to get the details and feeling right.

      Davion West what is the difference between 31B vs 31A

    • @DavionWest
      @DavionWest  4 года назад +4

      Squidward Tentacles A 31B is on the enlisted side. When you are a jr soldier (E1-E-4) E-5-9 they typically work the roads, and other things NCOs/ what there team leaders tell them. As well as being experts in their job.
      31A is on the officer side, they focus on leading the platoon, planning training, supervising and being a beacon for ethical things.

    So I’m thinking about joining rotc for my junior and senior year and want to go 31A in either national guard or reserves. So I was wondering what the differences are and how much time would a lieutenant would spend doing desk work compared to patrol work percentage wise? Sorry for all the questions but Great video 👍🏽

    • @DavionWest
      @DavionWest  5 лет назад +1

      So I have been in the National Guard for 3 years. According to my MP friends in the guard, they dont do patrols since they tend to do drill at an armory. But some reserve units and guard units have armories on Army bases. Meaning they might be tasked out to help AD MPs on base. But this all depends on your unit and state. Do your research, as an LT most likely 99% will be doing admin stuff and making sure your platoon have completed task like PMCS Vehicles. I will be posting videos from bolc this fall. :) hope that helped a little.

      DC-Bueno. Since I don’t leave for bolc for 31A till June, I asked my friend who is on active duty now. He said it depends on the installation. Most places you go, MPs have 3 work cycles, normally lasting about 4 months each. Green=field cycle Blue=Road cycle Amber or White=recovery, refit, leave

    Do you get deployed to Afghanistan a lot and go outside the wire and can you do a 2 year contract

    • @somethingsomethingusername802
      @somethingsomethingusername802 3 года назад

      The US Military is currently downsizing its footprint in Afghanistan, as well as Iraq. I believe the current timetable calls for a complete withdrawal of Forces in Afg. by September of this year. Unless the Taliban decides to pull some major shenanigans I cannot see US Forces remaining, or returning.
      If you're in a Deployable MP Company, than yes, you have a chance of being deployed - though it isn't a certainty (these days less so than in early to mid 2000's). MP's operate as Combat Support Units to assist the Combatant Commander, and venturing outside the wire is a plausible scenario (and wholly depends upon the specific tasks/operations at hand).
      Concern of Convoy Attacks? Attach some MP's.
      Infantry Raid on Bad guys? Attach some MP's to secure prisoners and any evidence at the scene.
      Local Police Force needing additional support? Attach some MP's.
      Need assistance in Civil Affairs while pushing people from their homes? I think you get the point.
      You could be outside the wire occasionally, while the bulk of your time is remaining at Base pulling Security/General Law Enforcement/Gate Duty.
      As for a 2 year contract, it depends on the "Needs of the Army" and you'd have to check with your local Recruiter to verify the specifics. Some MOS options offer it, others don't. Personally I wouldn't sign for it. You sign up for 8 Years regardless of your Active Duty "Time in Service". And 2 years isn't a lot of time to make things happen, which is what you want if you have hopes of Career Prospects after your Enlistment. There's quite a few additional Schools available to MP's that I would wager wouldn't be available if you're only AD for 2 years (bit of a waste investment wise for the Military).

    I would only want to be a lawman in a very pro-gun-rights jurisdiction. Military installations often have many anti-2nd-Amendment/un-American firearms restrictions so they seem to be a magnet, a target-rich hunting preserve, for potential gunmen/mass shooters and terrorists. Non-MP soldiers and DOD civilians are not likely to be allowed by post commanders to be readily armed on the streets, in their POV's, in their quarters or in their workplaces for their self-protection. There have been a number active shooter situations on American bases whereby non-LEO base personnel did not and weren't allowed by policy to have instant access to personal guns for self-defense as first responders.
