Guy Ritchie is on my top five list of greatest film producers, and i love old airplanes, especially ww2 aircrafts. This is a must visit for sure. It looks like i'm gonna be quite busy this summer visiting all of this great places. Thank you Gary and the Cameraman!

Evening Gary👍I'm exactly the same when it comes to the Spitfire, like a kid in a sweetshop, they fly overhead here regularly on the isle of Wight doing pleasure flights. I thought the restaurant looked well thought out,a rather limited menu, but the quality appeared to be there. For me personally It has to be a strong cheese for my macaroni, the chicken seemed to compliment the mild cheese in the dish it obviously works. Great review mate and that was a superb intro imo✌️
I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest airplane fan but you can’t deny there’s something really cool watching planes take off and land! Would love to try this place out

Hi Gary, thanks for another great review. Speaking as a flying enthusiast myself, no need to apologise about getting excited about seeing a Spitfire….wow, what a fantastic sight that was. Food looked pretty good and worth the 7/10.

So glad to see your review and I think its fair. I am a member of Compton and Hire planes from there for a Wizz round one of them behind you used to be a hire plane I have flown it many times. Before Guy took over it was always popular and many of the other members where very unhappy with his buying it. I always kept an open mind and indeed when it reopened quite frankly it is now an amazing spot. I was there Sunday just for a visit as it was the last of the Spitfire days it was very busy, but you could get a table late afternoon as a walk in. You mentioned needing a walk or jog after. If you go and park up by the Clump of trees in the Background in your end talk, then walk over the back follow the footpath signs you go down the hill into Guy Richie’s Land. It takes you past his house down his dive to a lovely village with another lovely pub with more good grub. Circle round up a monster climb and your back to your car. Epic walk lovely views and 4 days later my legs still ache. 1500 calories burnt so it makes up for the Chocolate bownie! BTW If you have not already done it from there you can see James May's pub not tried it yet but i hear good things. I have seen him at Compton as well as he used to keep a plane there. I assume he still does but not seen hm this year.
Have caught up with your q&a and tonight’s one. Gary you are the best thing on here, so genuine, we look forward to your vids all the time. Just wanted to say thank you for the effort you put in to make us smile 😊
What a place to eat. I kept looking out of the window hoping for planes to fly past. Great value for money, and the food looked lovely. You looked so happy and delighted to be there. I enjoyed watching.
I did my Flying Instructor Course there in the 80's and it was an airfield with a canteen which always did excellent home-made food for pilots. Now it looks like a restaurant for the public with an airfield attached so I hope it does not lose its aviation atmosphere. There are many good airfield restaurants around and we would often spend £ 200 to go for a £5 all day breakfast - those were the days !!
Fabulous vid thanks Gary I used to live very near there in the 80s in Cann Common near Shaftesbury with small planes flying overhead all the time. Thank you for sharing brought back many memories 🙏💎

That reminds of 1971/2 Gary when i use to go down to my eldest sister in Greywell . As i use to help her husband on a pig farm as only being 11& 12 at the time in those 2 years her husband took me to Farnborough for seeing the planes doing there display ready for the show at the weekend . Which was really good as on the second day the MP's came along seen we were watching the planes they let us in to a private area but we had to stay in the car which was even better as the view was amazing . The year after we went again for the week and we told the person on the gate he let us in and gave us a weeks pass from Monday to Friday with our own car park space . These days no bloody chance . Just shows how good the old days where Gary.
Great video as always Gary, love the Aviation twist to this one. A little fact Compton is also has a navigational aid, and alot of the westbound traffic from Heathrow use it. That macaroni cheese certainly looked great.
We used to go to the Puchbowl in Mayfair when Guy Richie owned it. Didn’t have food, just drinks but it looked good. Lovely little cosy place just off the beaten track.
Great video, I live just down the road and visit quite frequently especially at weekends with one or two of the car clubs I belong to. It is quite big on the car club/drive scene locally. In the summer there is no better place to sit out and watch the world go by with a beer. Unfortunately, guy has stopped brewing his own beers.. at weekends especially if you want to eat you will need to book ahead, the menu is slightly bigger now but not vast by any stretch but anybody can bowl up and drink at the bar or get a coffee and sit in the seating provided.
I have only just stumbled across your videos and channel, and have to say I am enjoying them immensely. I particularly enjoyed the day you spent eating at Wetherspoons. I used to work for PepsiCo and manage the whole of the Wetherspoon account and became a big fan because everything they do they do pretty well as I have always said value is not what you pay it’s what you get.
Up until 2020, I held a PPL for about 16 years. Compton Abbas was a favourite destination, as it is amongst many private pilots especially due to its wonderful location on a hill and the equally beautiful surrounding countryside. In a food context, much of private flying trips are referred to as an expensive bacon sandwich! The irony is that your channel may give me a similar food related excuse for a journey or two, albeit by road, which will be a lot cheaper!
Another gem of a review Gary. I can imagine Compton Abbas will be a brilliant place to visit on one of their air show days. Well done to Guy Ritchie in investing in this airfield and providing a different type of restaurant fare.
Hi Gary What a fantastic venue to review a restaurant. Looking at the old planes coming in and out is always fun. I agree it will need to expand its menu and the food looks not bad just a few improvements required I think. 7/10 for me. Another great review and you certainly are really flying now!
A shout out for Greeno Eats , another no frills but informative and very likable food vlogger that covers an area I'm passionate about 👍 A dogfight quite appropriate for an aeroplane themed restaurant 😁 I'd say that was a fair score as I personally like to salt my own fries or chips and not keen on brioche buns due to the high butter content. As always a great vlog...cheers fella.
Evening Gary so great to see you so happy. What a great beginning to your vlog Gary. Food looks good and I do like Brioche buns. Love a brownie and ice cream. Thought your score was right. You do make me smile Gary Thank you Suex
Before I watch your new vid, can I say please get some sponsorship, you really deserve to earn money from your brilliant vids. Nobody would begrudge you. Apart from maybe Rick Stein 😂
I don't agree the genuine nature of the reviews will be lost unless he is very careful. I would only do sponsorship for foreign videos abroad to cover travel expenses etc. just my opinion 😊
@@sainy375yes, he did suggest that in his q&a. Maybe something unobtrusive would be appropriate. I’m happy to see the vids without sponsorship but I hope he can make ends meet given the time and dedication he gives to his channel not to mention cost of eating out all the time, travelling etc
Gary we are new subscribers and working our way through your wonderful reviews then we hit upon this one , oh what memories . We used to live in Blandford Forum and took our then 4 year old son to Compton Abbas Airfield before Guy Ritchie bought it. It had a lovely cafe / restaurant (as you rightly said ) in the day and we had a delicious cottage pie . I hasten to add we are talking about 20 years ago and by the sounds of it hasn’t changed very much , not long afterwards we moved to France so seeing your video this evening was such a lovely memory as well as your excellent as always review. Thankyou Gary hey how do you manage to keep trim 😂😂
A 2.8% beer? Might as well drink ASDA shandy. Food looked good. Not sure I'd be blown away by some chipmunks taking off, they were used by the ATC not front line fighters.
They weren't used by the ATC. They were used as trainer aircraft and also flown by qualified pilots. The ATC and serving airmen were given experience flights in them as passengers. They allowed many excellent pilots to move on to aircraft such as lightning so they played their part.
looks like an interesting place gary and id just like to say we all appreciate the hard work you and your son put in to make content for us to watch cheers mate all the best : )
I went there with my daughter and grandsons!! It was a Spitfire day! We had ribs and pulled pork! Really yummy. Service was good and it was a busy day! X
Gary that food all looked scrumptious and reasonably priced too! Your vlog brought back some distant memories….1 the spitfire-years ago I worked at a place right next to a Rolls Royce factory who refurbished/maintained the BBMF spitfires engine so every summer a spitfire would do a fly past over our yard and over RR too, what a thrill to hear the roar approaching! Needless to say not a lot of work got done at the time….2 as an RAF cadet I did some air experience flight flying in the rear seat of a Chipmunk trainer aircraft a few times (the silver one with the roundels) mainly at English airbases but at Edinburgh Turnhouse RAF base too back in the day…a very enjoyable video mate on several counts!
What a lovely location for a restaurant. Easy Gary… airplane ✈️ impressions as well!! I’m sure when the place expands the choice of food will too. Great review you two lads xx😘
Tuned into your channel the last few days whilst I've had the flu, and i can't stop watching! Loving the content! Would love to see some Kent based reviews if you're able to get round to it. Might I recommend the plough in eynsford (especially the duo of beef)
Thanks, Gary. Another really interesting video I fly out of Compton Abbas myself on occasion or rather flying to from Blackbushe. Many thanks again Steve.
Looks like a worthwhile visit especially for an aircraft nut like me. We went to Manston in Kent to the Spitfire museum a few times where they did fabulous "Battle of Britain" burgers. Haven't been for a while, but well worth a visit. Thoroughly enjoyable video Gary, many thanks 😄👍
Gary what a fun afternoon it is always fun to watch the airplanes. The food looked good out of the two mains I definitely would have chosen the Mac and cheese with the smoked chicken thigh. I really enjoy the destination videos. Love your energy keep up the exceptional work...........now off you go 🛫 Cheers.

The year after we went again for the week and we told the person on the gate he let us in and gave us a weeks pass from Monday to Friday with our own car park space . These days no bloody chance . Just shows how good the old days where Gary.
That’s a great story Gerard thank you
Great video as always Gary, love the Aviation twist to this one. A little fact Compton is also has a navigational aid, and alot of the westbound traffic from Heathrow use it. That macaroni cheese certainly looked great.
This was a great experience but the menu definitely needs expansion Brandon
The star of the show Gary must’ve been the Spitfire 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 I agree, macaroni cheese and chicken was the number one dish thanks for sharing CQ
Absolutely Chris, the complete star
We used to go to the Puchbowl in Mayfair when Guy Richie owned it. Didn’t have food, just drinks but it looked good. Lovely little cosy place just off the beaten track.
He has a restaurant in London that I may visit in the future
A smiling and happy Gary is the best Gary.
He's lovely ❣️
So true Patrick mate 👍
Thank you very much Patrick
As usual…..loved watching your review!! You & ‘the cameraman’ are a great team. ❤
Thank you so much!
Ah, Gary... absolutely glorious ❣️
Thank you Melany
Great video, I live just down the road and visit quite frequently especially at weekends with one or two of the car clubs I belong to. It is quite big on the car club/drive scene locally. In the summer there is no better place to sit out and watch the world go by with a beer. Unfortunately, guy has stopped brewing his own beers.. at weekends especially if you want to eat you will need to book ahead, the menu is slightly bigger now but not vast by any stretch but anybody can bowl up and drink at the bar or get a coffee and sit in the seating provided.
Thank you so much for updating us on the information, Simon
I have only just stumbled across your videos and channel, and have to say I am enjoying them immensely. I particularly enjoyed the day you spent eating at Wetherspoons. I used to work for PepsiCo and manage the whole of the Wetherspoon account and became a big fan because everything they do they do pretty well as I have always said value is not what you pay it’s what you get.
Second! Hello Gary! Let's fly away, and give it a go!
Thank you, hope you like the video given your name
Up until 2020, I held a PPL for about 16 years. Compton Abbas was a favourite destination, as it is amongst many private pilots especially due to its wonderful location on a hill and the equally beautiful surrounding countryside. In a food context, much of private flying trips are referred to as an expensive bacon sandwich! The irony is that your channel may give me a similar food related excuse for a journey or two, albeit by road, which will be a lot cheaper!
That is brilliant to hear thank you, Keith
Have you ever seen the vintage film about the invention of the spitfire
I have not Neil but I should really give it a watch
Another gem of a review Gary. I can imagine Compton Abbas will be a brilliant place to visit on one of their air show days. Well done to Guy Ritchie in investing in this airfield and providing a different type of restaurant fare.
Thank you for watching
The ministry of gentlemanly reviews.
Ah you’re too kind
Hi Gary
What a fantastic venue to review a restaurant. Looking at the old planes coming in and out is always fun. I agree it will need to expand its menu and the food looks not bad just a few improvements required I think. 7/10 for me.
Another great review and you certainly are really flying now!
The food was good Tony but a limited menu hopefully they will expand it soon
Well done, cameraman ❣️ You captured the planes perfectly.
I hope Gary fed you well.
Thank you Melany
Your channel is growing quickly Gary and to be honest it’s such a fantastic channel you deserve it 👏👏
Thanks so much Lorraine
I was hoping for aircraft inspired meals - Lancaster lasagne, Spitfire sirloin, Messerschmitt macaroni cheese. Perhaps put the idea to Mr.Richie 🤔
stealth sausages
Lol some brilliant names there
😂
Might not be politically correct , bombing bolognase
@@alec1113 the incorrect lasagne would be luftwaffe lasange :D
A shout out for Greeno Eats , another no frills but informative and very likable food vlogger that covers an area I'm passionate about 👍
A dogfight quite appropriate for an aeroplane themed restaurant 😁
I'd say that was a fair score as I personally like to salt my own fries or chips and not keen on brioche buns due to the high butter content.
As always a great vlog...cheers fella.
I think Greeno is excellent and actually meeting him tomorrow Gee 👌
@@GaryEats ....Excellent news and sure it will make for a brilliant vlog , looking forward 👍
First Gary!! Haha 😛
so stupid...
Second Lee!!
@@GaryEats oh no!! 😮
@@GaryEats as stupid as # 1
Evening Gary so great to see you so happy. What a great beginning to your vlog Gary. Food looks good and I do like Brioche buns. Love a brownie and ice cream. Thought your score was right. You do make me smile Gary Thank you Suex
Good evening Sue and glad I make you smile, have a good evening
Before I watch your new vid, can I say please get some sponsorship, you really deserve to earn money from your brilliant vids. Nobody would begrudge you. Apart from maybe Rick Stein 😂
Thank you and it's not necessary right now Jeff, wouldn't want to ruin the flow of the videos but thank you for your lovely comment
I don't agree the genuine nature of the reviews will be lost unless he is very careful. I would only do sponsorship for foreign videos abroad to cover travel expenses etc. just my opinion 😊
🙄
@@sainy375🙄
Oh that's wondeful to hear, I'm glad you loved this one Gill and lots of running.... not lol
I’d imagine the weaker beer was designed for the person that was driving
Brilliant camera work from my favourite RUclipsr 👏😂. Gary, you were superb too...as always.
Thank you so much 😀
looks like an interesting place gary and id just like to say we all appreciate the hard work you and your son put in to make content for us to watch cheers mate all the best : )
Thanks 👍
@@GaryEats your welcome mate : )
Love this Gary my eldest brother also used to fly Cessnars for 20 years! I used to go up with very often 😅 ❤
It’s fantastic to hear Helen 🌹
I went there with my daughter and grandsons!! It was a Spitfire day! We had ribs and pulled pork! Really yummy. Service was good and it was a busy day! X
That’s fantastic thank you for letting me know Jacki
I’m really pleased it brought back some lovely memories Bill 👍
That looked like great fun. Thanks and cheers Gary!
Glad you enjoyed it
What a lovely location for a restaurant. Easy Gary… airplane ✈️ impressions as well!! I’m sure when the place expands the choice of food will too. Great review you two lads xx😘
This is a fantastic location Carol. Hopefully they extend the menu in the future. Xx❤️
Excellent review Gary, looks like a great venue to visit. You really enjoyed yourself, no doubt there.
It was a good one Mike!
Hi Gary, nicely done. 71/2 is perfect for the food, and what an interesting setting. Great place to bring the family once they expand the menu.
Thanks Jeff 👍
Tuned into your channel the last few days whilst I've had the flu, and i can't stop watching! Loving the content! Would love to see some Kent based reviews if you're able to get round to it. Might I recommend the plough in eynsford (especially the duo of beef)
Thank you for watching Simon and know the Plough well and it’s a beautiful village
Thanks, Gary. Another really interesting video I fly out of Compton Abbas myself on occasion or rather flying to from Blackbushe. Many thanks again Steve.
Wow, would love to hear some stories Steve
Looks like a worthwhile visit especially for an aircraft nut like me. We went to Manston in Kent to the Spitfire museum a few times where they did fabulous "Battle of Britain" burgers. Haven't been for a while, but well worth a visit. Thoroughly enjoyable video Gary, many thanks 😄👍
Thank you for the kind words Nigel
Gary what a fun afternoon it is always fun to watch the airplanes. The food looked good out of the two mains I definitely would have chosen the Mac and cheese with the smoked chicken thigh. I really enjoy the destination videos. Love your energy keep up the exceptional work...........now off you go 🛫 Cheers.
I'm really glad you liked it Daniel and cheers mate
Don't apologize, your carried away is wonderful!!! We love you just the way you are!!!
