Hi , I’m a chef and avid visitor of cafes, pubs, restaurants. I Always listen and read food/restaurant reviews and generally they are more about how clever the reviewer thinks they are with pretentious language showing off. How refreshing to watch this : honest, unpretentious, fair and straight to the point. I’ve taken your recommendation a couple of times now ( Wetherspoon and Devine cafe) , spot on . Thanks! Keep up the good work
Thank you Simon. Yes, I don't pretend to be an expert as that would be untrue. Give Devine a go for sure, Wetherspoons is a bit hit and miss - need to find the right one. If you need anymore recommendations, you can email me and I'd be happy to help.
I was just about to say the same, but you beat me to it. I love the unpretentious appraoch to eating in pubs and restaurants and the honesty and, it must be said, fairness of the reviews. Where else will you see a review of the most expensive fish and chips in the country (Tom Kerridge) next to a Weatherspoons all-dayer! Great work, I love it.
I’m really enjoying these videos, no boring preamble, straight to the point and not overly gushing. what I like most is the juxtaposition of high end V everyday eateries . Looking forward to more content.
@@GaryEats Years ago weatherspoons use to cook food from fresh but , then people were complaining saying it was taking too long to cook, so they became known for their fast food ( most of it microwaved or put into a fryer. It was also their beer being cheaper then any other pub at one point. I would rather go to any where else that is of a higher standard , ( out of choice) but I do not think the food is horrible but I do think it could be better, but then again, if you are going to weatherspoons and you know what it is, then you won't be expecting the highest quility when it comes to food or beers
@@michaelhawkins7389exactly. People know what they're signing up for with Wetherspoons. You'd never go there on a romantic night out, but if you just want a meal without the burden of washing up and want to have food and a pint for cheaper than a takeaway, then why not? It's not glamorous but who cares? If people want fancy schmancy then go to The Fat Duck and be hungry after your 10 course pretentious 'experience'
In December 2018, I visited my daughter in Glasgow where she was a student -on a perfect winter's bright, sunny freezing cold day we went to the xmas market, walked through the beautiful city and visited the incredible cemetery , as the sun went down and the temp plummeted we went back into town tired and hungry. My daughter took me to 'spoons by the train station, never been in one before and had a snobbish prejudice against them - I had bangers, mash n gravy and peas, a pot of tea and a delicious pint of bitter for less than a 10er and still remember sitting there full and astonished at the value.
After watching wetherspoons on TV I wouldn't give j one cos all the meals apart from breakfast are microwave meals and I've had bad experience in wetherspoons I've had to send meals back like steak pudding chips and peas cos the steak pudding was frozen in the middle and the barmaid asked me why i wanted mymoney back cos the food was frozen I've had far better meals at a cafe and ghet see sll home cooked
@@francisraffle2948your right of course most of its microwaved. What would shock you is there are far more expensive pub chains and guess what they all do virtually the same. Most is microwaved! In a British pub chain you will rarely find fully qualified chefs but cooks who do the basics. Weatherspoons just happen to do it really well and successfully
Best thing about Wetherspoons is I never feel ripped off. The food is always decent and good value. ... which is all I want from pub food usually. I recently went to the one in Abingdon (as I was passing through on the way to Oxford) and had a really nice experience. Food was above average for spoons, the staff were nice and the atmosphere relaxed. We stayed for a few hours drinking and eating.
I've eaten at Wetherspoons, usually not out of choice but necessity in different areas, and I've always felt ripped off. It's all frozen, pre packaged, deep fat fried and microwaved. It's been a case of get in, eat and get out asap.
@@ForceFreeTrainergirl06 No way, Wspoons are very good about not hassling people to get out. In fact they seem to encourage you to stay, especially the free refill of tea etc.
I have been converted to Wetherspoons since visiting manythroughout the Uk. In a way they seem to have replaced the old working mens clubs. Food is what is! Not spectacular but invariably good value. Drinks are cheap and having repeat hot drinks at no extra charge is great. The firm has saved so many pubs and also renovated disused buildings iike old theatres and even railway stations. All credit
I’d never been to a Wetherspoons until I had to have my car serviced and noticed one nearby to the garage. Seeing as I had time to kill I decided to have one of their large breakfasts with free coffee refills. Got to say for the price I couldn’t fault it, it was tasty and plentiful.
@@applecorpI always ask for the bacon to be crispy. Never been anaemic when asked. Sometimes the toast is cold upon reaching the table and that pisses me off, but can't fault spoons for the price.
@@AllThisOverASliceOfGabagool It's true about the cold toast but, as you say, the price. And the logistics of hot toast.........................but it's never soggy. In many diners, the toast comes out the toaster straight onto a cold plate............condensation creates the dreaded soggy toast. This is why the breakfast table has a toast rack. Wetherspoons seem to know this - it's a trade off. They don't put it on the cold plate "hot".
Thanks Gary I have been watching you for awhile but never commented. Wetherspoons is good on a tight budget. It serves a purpose and should always be around
'Spoons has mastered never being really bad and never being too over-priced. There are places that are better and places that are cheaper but very few that are both better and cheaper.
I order the double cheeseburger most times I eat at Wetherspoons and the beef they use is unbelievably good, tastes so fresh and cooked to perfection. I don't know how that do it. They are certainly better than any other burger chain in our area for quality. I ordered this week and the double cheeseburger with chips was £6.95. Very very happy with it. It also reflects on the quality of the kitchen staff, that the food is prepared so well.
They have changed the "patte" from a 6oz to a 3 oz. During and just after covid I would get a burger with an extra patte at £1.35, chicken patte was same price. A double 6oz for about £6. Now I think its about £7 for a 3 oz burger plus almost £2 for an extra patte. I must admit I did love the "patte" but to buy a burger plus the needed 3 extra's, too much now. Not long ago we got a burger in Blackpool spoons, think it was £5.95. Last week we tried spoons at Fort William, Scotland, the burger was 5p short of a tenner ! £5.95 in England £9.95 in Scotland !
@@markleeming1786 The 6.95 Double Cheese that I order is also in a Scottish Spoons, in Hawick to be precise, and it is also the same price in Galashiels, so it's not a Scottish thing. It could be that they have off-peak prices on meals as I eat there on weekday afternoons usually.
@@captaincat1743 Hi ya, I just tried to look on line but it will not give food prices, maybe it was because its the Highlands, Stella is £4.41 but only £3.88 at my local spoons. Coors £4.09 against £3.08, Tennents £4.37 vs £3.38
@@markleeming1786 Ok, that makes sense that they are in the Highlands, supply will definitely be more expensive. I thought Wetherspoons had fixed prices and was more like a chain-style restaurant/bar but it seems from reading your comments that they run each Spoons as though it were a pub ie. getting local suppliers where possible. Which is a smart way to run the business.
Gary , you've had 3 meals plus drinks for much less money than you've paid previously for one meal , it's hard to argue with the value for money and it's even cheaper in the provinces , for those with a family or on a budget , it's ideal , the fact that it is tasty is a bonus lol
@Silentaudits7 That is not the case, Gary gives his assessments and scores based on his experience at a particular venue and it is NOT based on price or who owns/runs the venue and he is VERY honest and consistent . He has shown NO favouritism whatsoever, I suggest you watch more of his videos and you will see .
@@richardpurchase9723 of course it will, London is always more expensive than everywhere else on everything, housing ( whether buying or renting), wages and costs related to businesses plus travel costs , I’m so glad I don’t live in London for those reasons. I also find it very very busy , not many places outside of London are as busy ( not meant in a negative way by the way ) I just like piece and quiet lol.
You made a wise decision with the Stella. When a meal includes a drink, I always go for the best they have! Normally a Stella or Leffe. You can't really go wrong with a Spoons.... a solid meal at a great price. I also like that they save a lot of historic buildings that might otherwise be lost. It's not fancy, but it does the job.
That was an excellent video, and your reviews of the food was very fair. Spoons isn't and doesn't pretend pretend to be fine dining but it allows a lot of people to enjoy a family meal out which is the important thing, well done Gary, and best wishes to you.
For sure. I'm no regular at spoons and never will be as i just don't care to, but i respect their brand in that they offer a decent meal for a good price, not a gourmet meal or 5 star meal, they just offer a enjoyable meal for the price and come on, you get a drink with meals and unlimited refills on hot drinks, the value is just insane. I avoid alcohol outside social events and love the value in the hot drinks refill, can go mad on them for pocket change. Really like that. I think his score was on point from my experience there. Wont be throwing now 10/10 but 3.5-4/5 depending on what your having really as long as your looking for value.
‘But it allows a lot of people to enjoy a family meal out’ - fantastic point, it’s not always about the quality of the food etc (to a certain minimum level lol) but the opportunity to be (or, able to be) there in the first place! ❤
One of the best options in spoons are the pizzas. I think they are cooked in a pizza oven so you will only find them in their pubs that have one in the kitchen. Because of the way they are cooked they are one of the fresher things on the menu and I like the way you can easily add toppings to the standard options. Quality and price stacks up against the competitors at that end of the pizza market!
Great you visited spoons. Their curries are great value - yep a proper Indian restaurant is often better but for a value meal - can’t be beaten. Also some of the buildings are amazing - restored so we can enjoy them - try some of the picture house conversions - or a fab church on the Isle of Wight👍
From Wetherspoons. Thank you for reviewing our breakfast which we could see you thoroughly enjoyed. As a sign of our appreciation, we are sending you a two year supply of our famous breakfast mushrooms which we hope will please you thoroughly. I am sure after spending a day consuming Wetherspoons food that you return home with a full belly and not Mush-Room !
I'm overjoyed to be getting a lovely collection of mushroom seeing as I'm such a huge fan of them. I will not have mush-room left when I'm finished. Thanks! Lol.

Im English but have been living in Turkey for ten years. I'm an English teacher. When my students travel to England i always recommend Wetherspoons. Bang for buck it's good value. Not great but acceptable. The curry nights and steak nights are good value with the beer included. Also unlimited refils of coffee and tea. Good review and very fair in my opinion.
Hi Gary. I came across your channel quite by accident. I'm glad I did. I've spent the last couple of hours pigging out on your videos. Absolutely first-class! I've now subscribed, and I'm looking forward to many more! Thank you.
Excellent video and you should be on mainstream telly! Love the honest authenticity of your presenting and it is a refreshingly different style that makes the video charming and interesting. The only downside is its making me hungry for more ha ha.Well done, no pun intended, and a Happy New Year .
Gary and lovely Cameraman ❤🧡💛💚💙🩵💜🥰 Great reviews. The drinks menu is fabulousness, honesty. But those free-range eggs wished they'd remained free from that plate. 😅 6pound was good value.. just visually joyless. Did the job of being filling. ❤ Lunch.. lol. Touristy spots knows how to charge. Sad burger, great price! Dinner.. champion!! All the best, Gary and Cameraman. Loving the series. Thank you.
Yet another great review Gary. I never see the issues with Wetherspoons, yes it’s not “top class” food but for what you pay it does the job and always comes out very quickly.
@@GaryEats all good gary, not sure if anyone’s recommended it but would you ever be tempted to review the palace cafe london? Trip advisor have it as the worst cafe in England and numerous food reviewers have been, would be interested to hear your honest take on it. Enjoy your weekend mate
The fried buttermilk chicken burger is my go to meal at Wetherspoons, it usually comes with onion rings, a few more chips and bbq sauce in a separate ramekin, just over £11 with a pint by me in the Midlands…obviously not London prices
Another great video Gary, thank you. Well done for tacking the breakfast especially the eggs. I visited the Princess of Indian in Morden after seeing your video, loved it, great value for money, thanks again.
Thanks for your three reviews! My impression is that 'Spoons as it is affectionately known by regulars, is just ok. You won't starve, but the portions and food quality are not going to overly impress. They spend on the decor and crockery, so there is a decent ambiance - although, you were competing with Victoria Station pidgeons by eating dinner al fresco! I understand prices have risen recently and some branches have closed.
You're more than welcome my friend. My stomach may have paid for it but as long as you enjoyed it, I'm happy. I agree with you on your assessment. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for going to Spoons, I thought apart from the eggs they was nothing wrong with your breakfast the burger looked ok not the best and as for the curry it’s always the best value I’m glad you done a honest review and not slagging Wetherspoons off like a lot of people do I live up in Sunderland and the prices are cheaper 👏👏 👍
Gary is living well here! I often opted for the smaller breakie once I saw the calorie content in the Large - about 1500 I think! Wow. On 1 meal. Careful, Gary. I hope the channel goes from strength to strength.
Hi Gary. Great video, as always. I agree that weatherspoons are fantastic for drinks and prices are tremendous vale (maybe less so in central London). As far as the food is concerned, whilst much of it is ready prepared, there is always the unknown element of who is actually in the kitchen, and I think that's key to the food. Thank you and enjoy the weekend.
excellent to see more and more videos gary, this channel has quickly become my favourite just due to your humble, funny (the jokes must stay🤣) down to earth personality, always a fair review and your enthusiasm is fantastic, must say the mushroom hatred i can definitely behind 😌
Wow, thanks for the kind words. Oh god, I'm not sure many subs/viewers will agree with you on my terrible jokes. Thank you very much and I'm glad I have another one on board with their mushroom dislike.
This video appeared in my feed this morning & having had a Wetherspoons Breakfast or 2 in my time then I had a watch. You summed up the Egg brilliantly. That had been cooked a while ago & sat on a Hot plate. Ive had one Wetherspoons Breakfast in the last 12 months & that was in Doncaster last Dec when I had an hr to wait for a train. It was £4.55 which is cheap but for Doncaster that was expensive. The Breakfast was Ok but was literally a plate up from the Hot plate & go. The Toast was freshly cooked thankfully. Ive not had one since because in Doncaster in Spoons £4.55 is expensive & it shows just how much stuff has gone up because the previous time for doing that was in July 2020. Back in Feb 2020 then I decided to cut all the Wetherspoons Breakfast & Mixed Grills out & just cook myself. I was getting home quicker & cooking better, hot quality food than you get in a Spoons. All the money I would have spent on a Spoons over the last 3 yrs then I spent the money on a £2,000 Gaming PC for Flight Simulator. Far better use of the money :-) Also gave my business to an Independent PC Builder/Store to help them through Covid. as well. I commented about Spoons Breakfast on the Toby Carvery Christmas Video so wont repeat it again but you never actually know what the foods going to be like in a Spoons until U have tried it for the 1st time. Some its great, some its I could have cooked something better at home. Spoons is good for visiting somewhere & U want a cheap meal but these days I tend to choose a better Indian/Thai Restaurant or an Independent Pub we've been too before. More expensive but far better quality. The Friday Fish & Chips has always been good when Ive had it.
Sadly the 'Spoons' where I live in Cornwall closed a while ago and in my opinion it's a big loss to the town. I've been to numerous Spoons over the years and I think they offer great value for money. Your reviews are always worth watching
The New "Spoons" in Newquay was lovely & the outside area meant you could see the Beach. Also the other one at the other end of Town was good as well & always busy with a nice view out of the windows also. Newquay just isnt busy enough to support 2 Spoons outside of the Summer season which is a pity as the New one was lovely. How Walkabout survived I dont know. Its 2018 since I last went to Newquay so it could have closed by now anyway. St. Ives Wetherspoons was lovely as well.
Love the channel, as others have said you made a great clear assessment and say it how it is. I also like to try different food establishments every now and again. Wetherspoons are a great for a relatively cheap eat although they can be hit and miss. Like with the breakfasts another time you will get perfect runny eggs another time you'll get dry ones. Although some Wetherspoons are just 'better' than others with no real reason why. When food is good it's a very, very satisfying meal. :)
Got introduced to Wetherspoons about five years ago for breakfast and always will hold it highly in my estimation for value for money and quality, and they have a fair variety (I'm quite partial to the breakfast wrap). Just discovered your channel today through, you guessed it, the £37 fish and chips 😂 Highly recommend you try Pizza Hut buffet, can be hit and miss depending what restaurant you go to and what clientele is like, so if you happen to come across a children's birthday party you better have a four leaf clover on you 😂
Great review Gary. I like Spoons for a drink because of the reasonable prices but have never rated their breakfasts. I mate, who used to work there, told me the breakfast food is pre-made in batches and left in a buffet style holding area in the kitchens. It means customers get their food quickly but most of the time the food is just warm and not fresh.
It's fine. Anyone who thinks it's freshly cooked to order is deluded. It's essentially buffet food brought to your table. Paid £11.50 for the equivalent in another placer last weekend ad it wasn't twice as good, for sure. The coffee seals the deal.
Hi Gary, What a great video. I liked that you tried 3 different Wetherspons in the one day. We also liked your marks and agreed with your scores. I see the disappointment with the egg at breakfast ( I like the hard egg!! but my wife like you likes the eggs soft) and my wife does like the eggs benedict which she said, has always been good. Lunch looked ok too. Ive been to the Victoria one a few times as I used to commute to Victoria, and to be fair the restaurant is always busy, and the food is decent. Must say we thought your curry looked really good on the plate, with the naan bread and popadoms!! Cheers for the reviews again. Really looking forward to your next upload. Have a great rest of the weekend. All the best David & Angela :)
Thank you David and Angela. Much appreciated, I had a really fun day at Wetherspoons despite what the comments say. Cheers my friend, have a good weekend.
I've only just "discovered" you. Doing the obligatory binge watch and sticking the video information in my "travel tips", hoping one day I can get back to GB.
Wetherspoons is extremely good value for acceptable quality in my view. Always a good place to meet up with friends for lunch without breaking the bank. Thanks for your reviews.
When I used to go Uni in the late 2000's we lived opposite a Wetherspoons and would eat there every day as it was such good value. They used to do a Burger and Chips for £4.50 or you pay an extra £1 and get a pint with it. They also did special days where pints were 90p so we basically lived in there.
I've eaten breakfast and other meals in Wetherspoons and the best thing I can say is they are cheap but consistently mediocre. Travel the length and breadth of the country and you'll be served the same thing - suspiciously quickly prepared & assembled food. While I'll eat there, if I see a cafe or something else nearby when I'm looking to eat I'd vastly prefer the other place assuming it was reasonably priced.
To be fair i dont think you can knock Wetherspoons its very competitive and if you get a good one its basically top value all round great content as usual Gary.
I have been a Wetherspoons user for many years in the main connected with travelling to football matches. The meals have always been keenly priced and served a purpose but in my humble opinion the quality and portion sizes have decreased but in today's climate that is perhaps no surprise. I've always thought you go to spoons for something to eat you don't go their for a meal if you get my meaning. The main reason most people go is related to the drink prices to be fair. Keep up the good work Sir
Thank you for Another great video Gary. You spent £33.70 for three meals and drinks in London, that's what I call value for money, when you compare it to the Gordon Ramsey breakfast a few videos ago it's a no brainer.
That burger looked dry Gary and the rest i could say about it ! Im in South Tottenham but i come from BOLTON ! Lived here over 25 years and the food prices are so erratic in and around London ! Be good mate 👍👊🙏🏴
Hi Gary, Callum and Jemima here, hope you’re well - you are looking it! Jemima and I are big Wetherspoons fans and will often visit our local one for a few snacks. We like the starters, as you can get 3 of them for around £12.00! I like the chicken wings, and Jemima is partial to the halloumi fries, we would recommend them to you. We very much enjoyed this video upload from you and are looking forward to the next video upload and will watch it as soon as it comes out. We have also thumbsed up this upload. Take care Gary and speak soon. Callum & Jemima, Oxford
Hello to Callum and Jemima. Glad you liked the upload and thank you for the nice compliment. You should have seen me on the way home, I didn't look all that great then. Haha, Thanks for watching!
What an enjoyable video. The pricing at the Leicester Square ‘Spoons is, I think, fair. It’s the West End, after all. Wetherspoon are about undercutting the competition - well that’s an element, at least - and one can only imagine the cost if drinking or dining elsewhere in the locality. The Victoria Station Wetherspoon is pure nostalgia. I’m a Kent lad, so I spent many a moment in there, killing time whilst awaiting my delayed train, ha-ha. There’s also a Wetherspoon just outside the station, where I’d frequent. Keep up the good work.
Pre-covid I could go in and have lunch with a soft drink for £5-6, but that has almost doubled now. I find Wetherspoons pretty hit or miss. You can go to one and it will not be great, but order the same meal from another and it will be good and three months later that can reversed, probably down to the staff and how diligent they are with the microwaves and fryers etc. I never minded getting a bad one pre-covid at £5-6 a hit, but at £9-11 it gets a bit more disappointing and I am thinknig twice now.
Nice video chap, yes I agree the breakfast looked Okish but the chicken burger and beef madras looked very nice & tasty . As a real ale drinker when I’m back in the Uk I do pop into the odd Weatherspoons they do a good range of cask ales for £2-3 pound a pint 👌👌Keep up the good work Gary...
I think the rubbery eggs set the standard for the brekkie, sadly but the whole platter looked just about palatable. The hastily disposed of mushroom looked the best bit to me. 😅 Was relieved to see you had seasoning and sauces at hand for the lunchtime burger and chips! 👍🏼 The curry appeared to be fine. I definitely think you should carry on ordering pilau rice instead of just boring old boiled rice. You'll enjoy a proper restaurant's version even more than this one. 🍚 Overall, I liked the idea of you having your day's three meals with one chain of eateries. Glad the 'Spoons served you well. Another enjoyable review. Hope your cameraman got fed along the way though! 😁
Lol, I had to get rid of that mushroom really quickly before it ruined the rest of the meal (haha). Thank you mate, cameraman was well fed (albeit not from Wetherspoons the cheeky git).
Yes i visited the Victoria Station weatherspoons in May this year and agree with you- The madras is good and hot but the 5 star chilli chicken is almost too hot.The cheapest London Weatherspoons i go yo when in London is the Shepheards Bush one- great prices Enjoyed your review + other reviews😅
I'd get rid of the hash browns and have grilled tomatoes or more mushrooms. But fried bread would be alot better. I agree with you the sausages are always on spec.

Good review. The curry meal looked excellent. The eggs on the breakfast plate were butchered, they shouldn't have left the kitchen. Very good value though.
Great vid. I adore spoons. It's cheap, consistent and the service is quick and direct to your table. The quality is surprisingly good these days too - albeit in-keeping with the low price point.
‘Weatherspoons it is what it is ..Just not for me …If I am going out to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner I want it to be special ….For me you are what you eat…❤️ Love that you always give it a go …❤
Spoons is what it is, value for money. Decent food not stunning, good drinks and at a fair price. Staff tend to be friendly. What I do know is I eat at other pub chains like beefeater, harvester, green king to name a few and have ahd alot worse and more expensive meals
Great review Gary. This one just came up on my recommendation section. Weatherspoons is never going to be 5star go to food place. Its what i call a building site place. Finish work on a friday and get some cheap food with some cheap booze.. You described everything in the most perfect way there mate. All the best, Paul😃
@@GaryEats if it's a quick, simple, cheap meal then it's the ideal place. Keep on supplying up with your lovely content Gary. We love and adore you mate 🤩
To be fair you can tell the person who brings your breakfast out that your eggs are overdone. I've done this myself and there quite happy to take it back and put right the problem, plus they normally ask if your happy with your meal, and don't take it to heart if you complain. So if your not happy tell them.
The thing with Spoons is you know what your getting, its not fancied up in any way, good value for money, and as you touched on, they are usually located in listed or important buildings in the community, which they certainly do know how to look after. Its somewhere between, Fast food to Home cooked food
@@GaryEats many years ago used to go in for cheap bacon roll and coffee , unbeatable. Once had a full breakfast , hmmm, never again . Not that my total disgust at Tim Martin has any role in this opinion

I eat in Wetherspoons most days in Llandudno (cos i live next door to it) Breakfast and Dinner (the tea coffee set up is great--even let me fill me flask in morning for work--free)--most meals as ya know come with a drink anyway--its cheaper than buying stuff and cooking at home---i can not fault it..very friendly staff. Gettin back to Christmas Dinner-it again depends what you want for your £, up here its v quiet on Christmas Day apart from beer--but food=nothing really, so maybe they got more time--i dont think its cos everyone knows me( Rich next door) And again why would i spend loads of £ on a meal for one day for me?? I met Tim Martin 2 years ago when the roof started leaking in the Cinema(thats the wetherspoons next door) with his group of folks being v sorry about the scaffolding thats going up(there wasnt any-it was all in doors) go look it up.. but what a guy eh-v impressed. Put it this way two sausage rolls in Greggs (over the road) is more expensive than a meal and a drink in Spoons. That will do for me. All the best from Snowdonia North Wales and yes its... Raining ---great channel fella.
Gary, another good review and ‘Spoons is what it is, great value and always a good place for a cheaper drink. The variation in prices must be due to rent/ lease costs plus local business rates and staffing costs. They generally have good, motivated staff and a wide range of customers. Keep up the good work.
With the spoons u have to take into account the price. For the money u pay it's hard to beat. My only complaint is sometimes the food can be cold. Overall though I'd recommend it as a place to go for decent enough cheap food.
Been watching your videos (from Buffalo, NY) a lot lately, as they started popping up when I was watching other food related channels. I find them very relaxing and comforting.
Wetherspoons isn't going to win awards for the cuisine, but its really there to meet a need. You want a reasonably priced meal when out and about, nothing fancy and theres always a good selection of beers.
My wife & I found Wetherspoons very much a "hit 'n' miss" experience on our UK holiday this year. Mostly "miss" I'm afraid to say. Cheap is great but each item needs to be cooked properly. Cheap doesn't mean lack of care & effort on the chef's part. When you put your fork into the bacon I'm sure I heard "Oink" ! Having said that, your meals did improve as the day went on although the price variation from "Spoons" to "Spoons" was a bit strange Maybe these pubs are individually owned & just paying for the name and so do their own pricing? We found them OK for convenience in Manchester (where we arrived) as after a very long flight from Australia (21 1/2 hours) we were so jetlagged that a nearby Wetherspoons was just the ticket for a quick dinner before crashing at our hotel and for breakfast the next morning. It is what it is - no expectations for quality and our budget didn't take a big hit. Thanks for the interesting video Gary & keep them coming !
My last summer trip back to England from Ireland, I had a drink in that Victoria Station Wetherspoons. Watched Ireland play rugby with the barman from Belfast. I was impressed how it looked inside. A nice respite from the busy train station.
Ever since Tim Martin used Wetherspoons for his rabid Brexit campaign, I haven’t bought a thing in one of his pubs. Hacking off 48 per cent of your potential market was never a good idea. This video helps to convince me I’m not missing much!
Nice one, Gary. I worked out that if you sourced the Curry meal from Iceland, Lidl & Tesco, it would come to around £6.40. That doesn't include petrol or microwave costs.
I honestly can't think of a place in London that would give you a glass of Pinot for £4, so essentially you got that chicken burger almost for free, going by City prices. Proper value for money, great reviews.
Enjoyable video and a fair set of reviews I think. One thing, the Wetherspoon's wine, included with the meal, is usually the awful stuff out of the tap. Cloudwater Creek I think. I think it's rank wine.
I've just found this channel. I like it a lot. Straight forward, and genuine, and no bullsh!t. Best UK food reviewer as far as I'm concerned.
Wow. Thank you Paul - glad you like the videos!
A bit different to rate my takeaway isn't it? 😂
As have I.
No idea why it was recommended, but I'm a fan already.
Far superior to rate my take away and the macmaster.
@@ianthomas1060 different job to rate my takeaway in my opinion. And I cannot stand Macmaster.
The language used is just to make it interesting to read and humorous
Also, a long time chef here and I totally agree! Gary is a breath of fresh air, and his reviews are top notch.
Gary is a legend 😊
I’m really enjoying these videos, no boring preamble, straight to the point and not overly gushing. what I like most is the juxtaposition of high end V everyday eateries . Looking forward to more content.
Thank you very much :)
The value is always excellent at Spoons, Frank. Thanks for watching mate.
Gary, do you do your filming overtly, if so, do you ever get a reaction from the proprietors?
The Sir John Moore. Used that place a lot on visits. It's ok
That's a fair way of putting it.
Good points.
@@ForceFreeTrainergirl06 places like McDonald's are rip off i feel full after Wetherspoons if i eat at McDonald's i still feel hungry
All credit
I think, Wetherspoons is an excellent chain offering great value so you will never hear me criticise
I’d never been to a Wetherspoons until I had to have my car serviced and noticed one nearby to the garage. Seeing as I had time to kill I decided to have one of their large breakfasts with free coffee refills. Got to say for the price I couldn’t fault it, it was tasty and plentiful.
As long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters. Thank you for watching!
Head office are in the house lol.
@@socialmeaslesinpartnership1252 Oh absolutely. I can handle toast being tepid when the rest of the breakfast for that price point is excellent 🙂
Thanks Gary I have been watching you for awhile but never commented. Wetherspoons is good on a tight budget. It serves a purpose and should always be around
Thanks for commenting Tricia. Glad you've been around for a while. Agreed! 👍
Glad you enjoy it!
I’m with you John I think it’s incredible value 👌
A letdown with the fried eggs, though. I wish I could get Cumberland sausages, down here in SW France.
The pricing difference will be all to do with rent and business charges
I agree completely Kevin it fill a whole and good value
Well said Kevin
Good point about the buildings they save and refit. Never been in a grotty one: they certainly know what they're doing in that department.
Beer go for a hazy jane
That was an excellent video, and your reviews of the food was very fair. Spoons isn't and doesn't pretend pretend to be fine dining but it allows a lot of people to enjoy a family meal out which is the important thing, well done Gary, and best wishes to you.
Glad you enjoyed it Colin!
Wherever you go to eat 😊 u expect the food to be cooked not over cooked or under cooked 😊
May have to go for a pizza in future, Chris. Thank you for watching!
Great you visited spoons. Their curries are great value - yep a proper Indian restaurant is often better but for a value meal - can’t be beaten. Also some of the buildings are amazing - restored so we can enjoy them - try some of the picture house conversions - or a fab church on the Isle of Wight👍
I have to agree with you there mate. Their Pizzas are probably the best thing on the menu 👍
I can agree with this. I had a pizza in a Wetherspoons in York and it was simply amazing.
We tried their pizzas once, they were so thin that we could almost see the pattern of the plates through them.

When the wife and I go on holiday, we always look for a Wetherspoons, the foods good and great value... Great review Gary.
You're welcome William.
Go on holiday where? To the uk?
Sadly the 'Spoons' where I live in Cornwall closed a while ago and in my opinion it's a big loss to the town. I've been to numerous Spoons over the years and I think they offer great value for money. Your reviews are always worth watching
Sorry to hear that but thank you!
Thank you Leon. Very kind of you.

Thank you! It was decent but nothing exciting. Thank you for watching!
It's fine. Anyone who thinks it's freshly cooked to order is deluded. It's essentially buffet food brought to your table.
Paid £11.50 for the equivalent in another placer last weekend ad it wasn't twice as good, for sure. The coffee seals the deal.
Unless it's a Michelin starred restaurant, not much is done completely fresh these days.
Lunch would benefit from a side of coldslaw or even beans. Former my choice.
I did have some mayonnaise for sauce as it was a bit dry.

Wetherspoons is extremely good value for acceptable quality in my view. Always a good place to meet up with friends for lunch without breaking the bank. Thanks for your reviews.
I think Wetherspoons offers excellent value
When I used to go Uni in the late 2000's we lived opposite a Wetherspoons and would eat there every day as it was such good value. They used to do a Burger and Chips for £4.50 or you pay an extra £1 and get a pint with it. They also did special days where pints were 90p so we basically lived in there.
Nice!
Pretty much nailed it.
To be fair i dont think you can knock Wetherspoons its very competitive and if you get a good one its basically top value all round great content as usual Gary.
Thanks Jeff and completely agree with you.

Or if they made it home the previous night/that morning. 😂😂
If you sit near the kitchen you can hear the hypnotic chimes of the microwaves.
Ah... so that was the noise I kept hearing. Lol.
@@GaryEats I don’t mind a Weatherspoon. It has it’s place in the UK.
Without a doubt.
@@GaryEats at marstons pubs the pre portioned currys and rice go in the steamer,no microwaves ...
Great review, ❤
We need in my opinion more positive, value and product quality in the production of microwave energy, 👍🇬🇧
First review I've seen of yours, Gary. I've been a frequenter of Whetherspoons for 3 decades and they can be EXTREMELY hit and miss!
They are very very hit and miss
That burger looked dry Gary and the rest i could say about it ! Im in South Tottenham but i come from BOLTON ! Lived here over 25 years and the food prices are so erratic in and around London ! Be good mate 👍👊🙏🏴
Cheers Paul mate. It wasn't bad after some sauce!
Why on earth would a northerner move down south , you’d must be mental
Thank you Alex!
wetherspoon is for working class. I am a lower working class individual and found weatherspoon comforting
I think Wetherspoons offers excellent value
@@GaryEats agreed
Very popular with students and young people in general, retired folk, and anyone who thinks all the other pubs at £6 a pint are a 'bit' expensive!
Yep.
I've only recently discovered your channel and am really enjoying your reviews. far better than any thing I've seen on here. Thanks. Good
That’s really kind to say Martin thank you very much
Nice video chap, yes I agree the breakfast looked Okish but the chicken burger and beef madras looked very nice & tasty . As a real ale drinker when I’m back in the Uk I do pop into the odd Weatherspoons they do a good range of cask ales for £2-3 pound a pint 👌👌Keep up the good work Gary...
Glad you like it whenever you're back in the UK, David. Thanks for watching mate!
I think the rubbery eggs set the standard for the brekkie, sadly but the whole platter looked just about palatable. The hastily disposed of mushroom looked the best bit to me. 😅
Was relieved to see you had seasoning and sauces at hand for the lunchtime burger and chips! 👍🏼
The curry appeared to be fine. I definitely think you should carry on ordering pilau rice instead of just boring old boiled rice. You'll enjoy a proper restaurant's version even more than this one. 🍚
Overall, I liked the idea of you having your day's three meals with one chain of eateries.
Yes i visited the Victoria Station weatherspoons in May this year and agree with you- The madras is good and hot but the 5 star chilli chicken is almost too hot.The cheapest London Weatherspoons i go yo when in London is the Shepheards Bush one- great prices
Enjoyed your review + other reviews😅
Thank you Geoffrey :)
I'd get rid of the hash browns and have grilled tomatoes or more mushrooms. But fried bread would be alot better. I agree with you the sausages are always on spec.
No problem Michael. Thanks for watching!
Ban hash browns from the English breakfast full stop ! Yes fried bread is the only way to go 👍🇬🇧
@@oildragwhat a shite opinion
@@Farquad76.547 your a pillock ! with no idea about the British origin of a fried breakfast ! Hash browns are once again a US poop food introduced over here !! Eeeyuk ! The Bin is the only option
Good review. The curry meal looked excellent. The eggs on the breakfast plate were butchered, they shouldn't have left the kitchen. Very good value though.
Totally agree.
I think you were unlucky with those eggs, the times I’ve had eggs (in various ‘Spoons around Kent) they’ve been fine.
Typical!
Gary you are one of a kind in the nicest way possible. Keep it up. Love the content.
Thank you very much
Great vid. I adore spoons. It's cheap, consistent and the service is quick and direct to your table. The quality is surprisingly good these days too - albeit in-keeping with the low price point.
Thanks mate!
(Breakfast)I do like it. Put a dollop of brown sauce and it will lift it. Complete value. Love the gee oil around the curry. A total thumbs up for me👍
I did have brown sauce on it! I do love brown sauce :)
‘Weatherspoons it is what it is ..Just not for me …If I am going out to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner I want it to be special ….For me you are what you eat…❤️ Love that you always give it a go …❤
I think it offers great value but not much quality ❤️
Spoons is what it is, value for money. Decent food not stunning, good drinks and at a fair price. Staff tend to be friendly. What I do know is I eat at other pub chains like beefeater, harvester, green king to name a few and have ahd alot worse and more expensive meals
Spot on.
Spoons regularly impress with decent food at a working man’s price
Agreed Stewart. Thanks for watching!
Great review Gary. This one just came up on my recommendation section.
Weatherspoons is never going to be 5star go to food place. Its what i call a building site place. Finish work on a friday and get some cheap food with some cheap booze.. You described everything in the most perfect way there mate. All the best, Paul😃
Thank you very much, Paul, I think Wetherspoons offers Great value
@@GaryEats if it's a quick, simple, cheap meal then it's the ideal place. Keep on supplying up with your lovely content Gary. We love and adore you mate 🤩
Love the buttermilk chicken burger a classic plus spoons is amazing been there hundreds of times. Great video 👍🏼
It's tastier than it looks!
Breakfast eggs a total crime.. dreadful
They were awful.
To be fair you can tell the person who brings your breakfast out that your eggs are overdone. I've done this myself and there quite happy to take it back and put right the problem, plus they normally ask if your happy with your meal, and don't take it to heart if you complain. So if your not happy tell them.
Sorry forgot to mention the coffee, which I think is seriously tasty, and matches most coffee shops, unlimited refills is great value.
The thing with Spoons is you know what your getting, its not fancied up in any way, good value for money, and as you touched on, they are usually located in listed or important buildings in the community, which they certainly do know how to look after.
Its somewhere between, Fast food to Home cooked food
Can agree with you there.
I absolutely love spoons simply because no one is being robbed. Green king IPA is £1.99 .Adnams Ghost ship £2.88 in my area. Superb
Glad you enjoy it.
I could eat the entire menu , none of the food just the menu .
LOL. Not a fan of Wetherspoons?
@@GaryEats many years ago used to go in for cheap bacon roll and coffee , unbeatable. Once had a full breakfast , hmmm, never again . Not that my total disgust at Tim Martin has any role in this opinion
Top job! keep up the reviews, thoroughly enjoyable!
Much appreciated!
Day one of asking Gary to go to Essex
Keep doing this and I will go to Essex for you!
Ok ! Thanks for the heads up
There are some good Indian and Turkish here as well , not fancy ? We’ll go to Middletown in Chelmsford ( steakhouse ) and some other good Chinese buffets so come down to Essex Gary , loving the videos as always
The table issue with wiping has been sorted(as you can imagine in a holiday town like this-it gets v busy)--you can order on ya phone-dont even have to get up! 10/10 for me--and Christmas Dinner is fantastic.
Thank you Richard but I disagree on the Christmas dinner as I review and it was very poor
@@GaryEats I spose which one you go to--iv been to 4 (not many i know) and only my one here in Llandudno at Christmas-i guess it depends on what you compare it to!(i live on my own im 61 yrs young-wife died) i still work an pay my way.
Thank you mate, all the best.
say he is dry as pig shit sad
With the spoons u have to take into account the price. For the money u pay it's hard to beat. My only complaint is sometimes the food can be cold. Overall though I'd recommend it as a place to go for decent enough cheap food.
Of course Sean. Completely agree :)
Been watching your videos (from Buffalo, NY) a lot lately, as they started popping up when I was watching other food related channels. I find them very relaxing and comforting.
Agreed
Oh wow! Thanks Wendy :)
Never been disappointed with a Witherspoons curry and especially the Ale is amazing value. My French family love a visit there.
Sounds great!
All their curries are frozen microwave meals.
All you need now is 10 pints and you’ll have the full Wetherspoon experience 😂
LOL. Would there be comedic value in watching me fall down the elevator post curry?
Wetherspoons isn't going to win awards for the cuisine, but its really there to meet a need. You want a reasonably priced meal when out and about, nothing fancy and theres always a good selection of beers.
I agree with you :)
If you keep this up (the eating), you'll be the Pillsbury dough-boy in no time 😆
LOL. Oh god. More vlogs to come!
How many calories for the three meals and drinks?
You've pretty much described the quintessential Wetherspoons food experience. It's incredibly hit and miss. Thanks Robert. All the best!
Hi dear! Sending you a great day!! Thanks for the review!💕 SB, Ca. USA
Thank you! You too!
My last summer trip back to England from Ireland, I had a drink in that Victoria Station Wetherspoons. Watched Ireland play rugby with the barman from Belfast. I was impressed how it looked inside. A nice respite from the busy train station.
Yes it's nice Mark
Ever since Tim Martin used Wetherspoons for his rabid Brexit campaign, I haven’t bought a thing in one of his pubs. Hacking off 48 per cent of your potential market was never a good idea. This video helps to convince me I’m not missing much!
Thank you very much for your comment
Nice one, Gary. I worked out that if you sourced the Curry meal from Iceland, Lidl & Tesco, it would come to around £6.40. That doesn't include petrol or microwave costs.
Interesting Norman. Cheers!
I honestly can't think of a place in London that would give you a glass of Pinot for £4, so essentially you got that chicken burger almost for free, going by City prices. Proper value for money, great reviews.
Thank you James!
Enjoyable video and a fair set of reviews I think.
One thing, the Wetherspoon's wine, included with the meal, is usually the awful stuff out of the tap. Cloudwater Creek I think. I think it's rank wine.
Thanks for the info Barry. Appreciate it.
