I think the reason why some advent calenders have the numbers shuffled is because for kids it makes it more exciting when they get to search for the right number. At least that's how it felt to me when I was little.

Advent calendars are actually a German Lutheran tradition. We have them since the 19th century usually for kids from 1st of December to 24th. And most advent calendar doors are numbered out of order. It's kind of the point - so little kids have to search for the right door to open 😍 I used to have a chocolate one as a kid every year, but sometimes my mother also made one herself out of socks and/or little boxes hung to the wall with little miscellaneous suprises - sometimes food, sweets, sometimes little toys, some jewellry or other kinds of useful or whimsical nicnacs. Oh...to be young again!

I actually love when the numbers are all over the place. When I was a kid, it was so much fun to look for the right day. I still enjoy it because it reminds me of my childhood. I believe advent calendar is a German tradition and then it spread to other countries. These calendars were always very popular in Poland, and I can find them here in America as well which makes me very happy 😊
these are so fun to watch during a relaxing afternoon or doing a project, feels like we're hanging out or something. reminds me of old PBS :) also I am now buying a food advent calendar!

Since you said these are your first advents I wanted to let you know what our family does, we typically go from 25 or 24 (depending how how many it has) and count down. Our kids got a kick out of knowing how many days til Christmas this way

Make sure you pack them back, the soft ones would get hard if they are in contact with air. I mean, you should put them back in a bag or something so they don’t get hard, which would ruin them

Now that you are showing things one by one and sayin g the numbers, I just realized how much I looooved the lottery shows on Saturdays when I was a child and someone was choosing the numbers and it wasn't done by a machine.
