If I remember correctly Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad was gonna get axed pretty early, but he became such a great and popular character so they kept him in
Law from One Piece. I can't wrap my head around how I could love him from the first moment I saw him. His character design is insanely interesting and likeable.
I love character design, I don't read your manga (yet). But by looking at that illustration, I really like your character with the red hair. I can see you've given him red as his main color because it's the color of passion and anger. He must be a bit of a crazy, no bs character I assume, also because he's at the very front. (even in front of the main character) He must have some type of leadership in him, but controlling his emotions/ impulses must not let him be the ideal leader. I love fiery characters like that because that's how I am. Also, he's giving us the fuckin horns, as a metalhead I say fuck yeah. haha!
God! Its so hard to choose! Everyone in the top 10 I absolutely love! All of them. They're all so different and I feel they're personalities can really shine through with their designs. They're so awesome. One of the only other characters that has both perfect, in my opinion, attitude design along with physical traits is Taiga Aisaka from ToraDora! I think the top ten from Apple Black vol 2 can hold their own with her. I love characters and character designs. I mean, anime and manga are 50% story 50% art. Without great characters the story will suffer without a great story the characters will defiantly suffer. You're characters are designed beautifully and you're an inspiration for my own characters.
i definitely wanna go read this now!!! i think Ruby definitely looks like an interesting character just from the design! this video was really intriguing with a heap of good information so thank you!! my all time favourite character would be Killua Zoldyck and many people could guess why
I try to make my main character not being clichéd by being something more organic, feeling angry, taking actions precipitated by anger. I found these tips great to get an idea of how to develop the character according to what the audience is finding without taking away the essence of the character ...
To help out, I’ll tell you what my opinion on the characters are before having read the manga or really getting to know anything. Neon and ruby definitely appealed more to me design wise, but that’s mostly Cause I love pink haired badass looking girls. I just really liked the way you paired Ruby’s colours together. From what I see on personalities, ruby might be a bit like kirishima from mha. Being badass but actually not being overly edgy. Writing this comment I forgot the name, but the light blue spiky - haired guy with the stripes on his face also seemed to have what I would call a good personality. For me, characters that are extreamly skilled and smart but was cursed with a goofy personality are the best ones lol
@@Eternalkanji wait fr? i was just watching this vid thinking about how cool it would be if this got an anime adaptation. It makes me so happy seeing that black mangakas get their spotlight since it's something I've dreamed about since i was younger.

If I am honest to myself, my favorite character is from the story I wrote myself. And to my own suprise, it was not the main character or the villain, but one of the supporting characters. Coming to that conclusion felt odd, since I was sure (at least before I thought about it) that it would be the MC.
My rule for writing things myself: don’t make the character you like the most the main character unless you absolutely have to (there the only one left on earth, they get lost alone, etc). Nobody has ever said “Harry Potter is my favorite character in Harry Potter”
i actually haven't read your series at all yet so watching these unfold is always funny since i dont know what they look like! i definitely want to try it out sometime though :) as for favorite overall character... hiei from yu yu hakusho

to make a popular character you only need to make him cool/badass/over powered/wins every fight with tricks/have a tragic past or make him relatable/lazy/love eating food/funny/impolite but have a pure heart/loved or hated by everyone Those kind of character always get so popular (Also please keep in mind this is how to write a popular character not a well written one This is a trick to increase sales)
Those kind of characters aren't really liked actually 😅 a character can be super powerful and cool but if they win every fight with no problem...no one's excited to see their fights. If they are liked or hated by everyone...that's just kind of cliche. That sounds a lot like a Mary Sue or a Gary Stew, they're easy to sniff out and once they're found...not many people will like them
@Senka The aka goku was probably one of the first characters to be like this. If they launched dragon ball today it probably wouldn't be successful since people would keep comparing the story to others. Dragon ball and this old animes created this cliche.
I feel like bleach, naruto and some over mangas like dragon ball influenced in your work what you doing now.. im seeing apple black first time its really well done...

So just wanted say thanks for these vids
Not gonna lie, I think Ruby is the sickest looking character. He has a lot of surface level appeal and gives me a Bakugo vibe. I'm actually working on some characters right now, but I'm not a manga level quite yet
Kamen Rider is one of my favorite series to watch. I gotta say one of my most favorite characters is the villain of Kamen Rider Build. Evolto. I thought he was the typical manipulative mastermind and he is, but what sets him apart for me is that he is genuinely frustrated when he doesn't get his way. Most villains when their plan fails they pass it off and say, "It's no use for them anyway, it's fine to let them escape." or something similar. The only time they are frustrated is when they're about to die, which I sorta get used to, but Evolto is different for me. He has a chance to kill all the protagonists and when he fails he yells out in frustration. After that he starts taking more proactive attempts to draw them out, like blowing up buildings and people. It was really refreshing to see a villain act like a person when his plan fails.
I don't think you necessarily need marketing and money to make a character popular, If you make a character that people really like then it just travels everywhere and it the marketing does itself, somethimg like that
A character's likeability shouldn't depend on aspects that transcend the story, i.e. "hype". The same with the plot of a story. If a character is in this situation it basically means that he is not liked by virtue of his character and thus he is no more than the hype. If the hype dies then the character dies. Quote me.

These are some simple tips I've found to be helpful. 1. Study basic human anatomy - You've got to learn how the rules work if you want to break them. 2. Draw a LOT (like A LOT a lot) - Some professionals recommend filling a sketchbook a month over the course of a year (which a quite a lot). Regardless of how your drawings look to start with, this is bound to show some form of natural improvement/change. 3. Study some of your favorite artists - Examine how the construct scenes, panels, as well as characters. Incorporate what you like and leave out what you don't.

BriXtoN McGurK l'm not whyte but l have a few tips:
•Style takes a while to develop so keep practicing and look up different art styles and see how they are unique from each other.
•Know how to draw things as they are naturally then you practise adding style.
•Look at your drawings and see what you like about them, what you dislike about them and how you style. Like maybe you draw eyes bigger than usual or you ink darker than normal.
•Show others your work so they can help you improve.
•Check out manga like Bleach,Fairytale etc and how the style changes over time.
•Please try your best to not copy a comic/manga style you like
Just draw however you feel IMO it will develop over time your own style
These are some simple tips I've found to be helpful.
1. Study basic human anatomy - You've got to learn how the rules work if you want to break them.
2. Draw a LOT (like A LOT a lot) - Some professionals recommend filling a sketchbook a month over the course of a year (which a quite a lot). Regardless of how your drawings look to start with, this is bound to show some form of natural improvement/change.
