Very nice video, Will. There's definitely rising issues with Distributors raising cost. Once they begin acting like a seller, they should have their Distribution rights stripped, imo. They're buying so low from Pokemon already, and pretty much holding a monopoly on distribution rights with most of the tcgs out there, it's ridiculous on their part. Even Walmart has seen MJ Holding raising prices recently. But really enjoyed your break down and is very accurate. Keep up the great work and wishing you all the best in the future with the hobby
Liked and subscribed. Everything was accurate. I sell Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! products for a living (while I'm still a college student) and it really isn't as easy as people think it is. Everyone is always asking for discounts, but they don't seem to have any idea how taxes work. I'm currently living in the Netherlands (Europe) and you pay a shit ton of taxes every 3 months. If you want to make this your side hustle, but don't have a lot of capital, I'd suggest you start with buying collections at a low percentage and flip them online or at random events where there are a lot of people.

I suspect it was a lot easier to get access to a distributor 5 years ago (which you allude to). I have a business set up etc...but no brick and mortar. So...no dice. Kudos for doing this at your age. When I was your age, I had no clue, haha!
Hey Todd, thanks so much for the comment and the kind words! Yes, it was much easier 5 years ago. Surprisingly, when I signed up with my second distributor it wasn't that difficult. Totally agree. I'm fortunate that my distributor still has old pricing in play. It would be pretty difficult to make profit margins at $90 a box imo if you aren't scalping. Thanks for the comment!

Keep doing videos like this. This was very informative and very helpful. Currently I want to sell sealed products and didn’t know where to start. Keep it up bro🔥
We found a distributor in Canada. We are growing slowly and didn't have a Brick and Mortar. We contacted them all, and one was willing to give us a chance. Likely because we are building a digital service product management tool for singles, so the sealed product access and the combination of our digital work maybe convinced them to give us a chance. (Many gave us a 'no' because we didn't setup a storefront yet. )
Earned my sub with this video. I've been trying retail arbitrage for months now and have terrible margins. If I'm looking to keep it going as a side thing, UT sounds like it might be worth getting a distributor. Thanks for the video
I agree, however, brick and mortar have much more overhead cost and they are more favorable of brick and mortar because someone with that overhead is much less likely to just duck out with bad sets because they need product to push for that overhead.
A little tip, work with LGS in your area I get discounted boxes from them since I can't get in with and distributors. I've become friendly with a couple stores and they sell it to me a bit over the distribution price because I've been consistent with getting from them and it allows them to move more product quickly
Really liked this video. I have been trying to decide which way I would like to take this journey. I am debating on starting a break channel and eBay/ local sales business. But I’d like to grow my name in social media circles before getting the distributor. You got my subscription.
hey man i just subscribed, i like your knowledge on the market. I do have a question though, if you're not interested in achieving a partnership with a distributor, how else would you receive products then ? I imagine buying from other resellers will be far more expensive, then you have to find a way to flip that after you purchased it which wouldn't make sense, because people would just go for the person who sells for less.

I was looking to get into wholesale distribution of video games or TCG. I have an LLC and am tax exempt in my state. The main issue I had with deciding whether to do it or not, was the profit margin. Like you said in the video, the best way to make money is to sell large quantities because you are only making a few dollars per sale. Also for me, I do not have a storefront so it would take up so much space to store everything although I do have a storage unit with AC and some empty room in my house. In my opinion unless you are going to spend say $100,000 to buy product it would be better to use as a collecting/investing tool. You can get the item for cheaper than you would pay in store. You covered basically everything in this video. Much appreciated.
Awesome informational video! How did you get a manufacturer's invoice or did you get an official letter from pokemon authorizing you to sell? I'm in the process of applying to sell on amazon business and got stumped on that part.

Most distributors only work with brick and mortar stores at this time and really since 2018. They cut out e-Commerce entirely. This is at least true for new accounts.
Is it possible to do this on a small scale. All I want to do is order 2-10 cases per set of booster boxes only I don’t want any other products. I want to do investing and selling on a very very small scale just as a fun side hobby.
Technically nothing. Uploading RUclips videos is free if you have a smartphone. I have a video where I talk about getting started with the business side and how much you should have.
Hi Luis and Sini, there are third part sites like Buyee and Zenmarket that you can use to buy products from Japan. The fees are high, butt if you purchase a large amount the price will likely even out. I don't know much about or know any Japanese distributors. Hope this helps!
Late to the conversation but unless you have a bunch of capital as of 10-3-2022, you are not allowed to have an online account. I've tried them all with 50k and got nowhere.
Btw I’ve called/emailed every US distributor, they won’t take anyone new who’s not a brick and mortar (I.e. online only), because of the high demand and low supply. They can’t keep up with demand from existing clients

If I were to remove distribution, I would solely focus on singles and bulk.
I'm wondering how much they charge you for the cardboard sleeve booster packs and the 3 pack blisters.
I don't remember 100% off the top of my head, but I belive it is 9.5 for 3 pack and close to 2.25 for blisters.
thumbs up keep up the great videos
Thank you!
Cant figure out how to get the tax exemption for my business on tcgplayer. Any advice.
how much doest it cost to get all the paper work (tax id, license and llc)?
It will depend on the state, usually the LLC is the only thing that will cost money.
@@TheLabTCG is this all I need resale tax id sales tax id, tax license, sale tax exemption and LLC?
I need help on getting my sales tax id im from Texas I don’t know how to do pls help
Most distributors only work with brick and mortar stores at this time and really since 2018. They cut out e-Commerce entirely. This is at least true for new accounts.
Yep, seems to be the case.
I was denied twice and each time told to check again in six months
What distributors do you use?
All of the ones i have tried are saying i need a commercial retail location.
Is it possible to do this on a small scale. All I want to do is order 2-10 cases per set of booster boxes only I don’t want any other products. I want to do investing and selling on a very very small scale just as a fun side hobby.
I was doing that for a while, so it is absolutely possible. You don't have to take anything you don't ask for.
How much money you need to start this on RUclips I wana do this I see lots of people do it and be successful
Technically nothing. Uploading RUclips videos is free if you have a smartphone. I have a video where I talk about getting started with the business side and how much you should have.
@@TheLabTCG okay ima watch it

Can i have more info about the japanese distributors? Here in Montréal, canada the demand is high and not many people sell it, thank you!
Hi Luis and Sini, there are third part sites like Buyee and Zenmarket that you can use to buy products from Japan. The fees are high, butt if you purchase a large amount the price will likely even out. I don't know much about or know any Japanese distributors. Hope this helps!
@@TheLabTCG thank you !
Great video man and really informative too! Even though I'm in the U.K 🙌🙌
Glad you liked it! Thank you for the comment!
Late to the conversation but unless you have a bunch of capital as of 10-3-2022, you are not allowed to have an online account. I've tried them all with 50k and got nowhere.
Haven't tried to apply in a while, you could be right.
I subscribed. I also run a Pokémon channel. Thanks for the video
No problem, thanks for the comment and the sub!
I just got started selling and it's going really well.. but I need to find a distributor bc using my own money is hurting... Lol
Are you in the DMV area?
Yes
@@TheLabTCG I’m in Maryland wonder if I can just start buying from you 😆
@@defyzx6817 Absolutely! My updated website will be live soon.
@@TheLabTCG I’m going to dm you on Instagram I have several questions, thank you for responding sir!
Great video
Btw I’ve called/emailed every US distributor, they won’t take anyone new who’s not a brick and mortar (I.e. online only), because of the high demand and low supply. They can’t keep up with demand from existing clients
Im sorry to hear that man, I hope it opens up soon.
