  • In this comprehensive review I demonstrate the Bosch Athlet on carpet and hard floors, including pet hair pick up as well as general dirt. I also demonstrate the cleaning tools and show you how to clean the brush roll and maintain the machine.

I bought this in 2017 . I have 2 cats and It was fabulous suction. Trouble is to use on setting 3 turbo it killed the battery. After 18 months the battery was finished and you cant buy them to replace , they are internal and you need Bosch to do them at approx 100.00 so if they improve on the battery set up, the machine is good. The pet brush was not anti wrap so had to keep cutting with scissors which wasnt bad because the brush slides out.

Nice to see products demonstrated by a real user. TV demonstrations on shopping channels don't seem real to me, in as much as they are going to leave out any problems. I have a Bosch cordless, it is fine as an upright vacuum but using the attachments is a real pain. I doubt older people would like the attachments as taking the handle off can require a fair bit of strength. Your tip about saving money by getting a version without attachments is very sensible. Then again you need the attachments to do sofas. These cordless vacuums ain't cheap so manufacturers really should build them with HEPA filters.
Thanks for a great demonstration and review.

I bought two bosch pro animal vacuum cleaners and I had problems with both because the contact with the rotating brush came off. I reported them several times in assistance and they adjusted them. But on time they broke. After the warranty, I opened the brush myself and saw how it was made: a shame! with what it costs should be done better! It is inconceivable that a serious company like Bosch has done such a mess !! Short and intricate threads, turning the brush is obvious that they come off or break. But with the engineers you have you do not find a better solution?!? Or maybe you do it on purpose so people have to resort to repairs ?! The discourage for this problem, otherwise it would be a great product. Sin! Lella

Great demonstration. I am thinking about buying it or maybe the slightly cheaper version one. Although this one seems the best.

Excellent demonstration Roger. I had a Bosch canister vacuum for about a year but I didn't like the tools on that either. They were too lightweight and lifted off of the surfaces and the machine didn't come with a dusting brush. A year after I bought it Bosch pulled out of the US market and stopped sending replacement bags so I bought another vacuum. Didn't have any luck with their spark plugs either.

Seems like a very effective cordless cleaner! Would be nice to see these in North American stores. I don't think the tool set up is that bad - as a matter of fact, this would work quite well for cleaning the interior of a car. If the weather is not bad when recording, it would be nice to see a video comparing some of your cordless vacs on how convenient and effective they are for car interiors and on stairs (tasks where cordless is really helpful) Just an idea, Roger! By no means a demand... :-)

I thought you were being pretty picky about this cleaner. I had an older model, the 25.2 which wasn’t Pro animal. After 7 years of use the battery gave up. Batteries are available but they are expensive. I bought my Pro Animal model from John Lewis , it came with a good warranty and at a special price. I have 2 dogs, one of whom molts continuously, and a Rag Doll cat with long fur, as well as 2 Cockatiels. So I have feathers as well as fur to cope with. The Pro Animal manages wonderfully. I haven’t yet tried the hose or accessories. Fun to come. I am very pleased with this vacuum.

I’m glad you got good use out of your Bosch, but a lot of people have had problems with theirs. You must have maintained it properly to get such a long life from it. The tools are very awkward to use on this cleaner as you will have discovered if you used yours. As an upright it’s fine, but too much trouble for above floor cleaning.

We're getting one today (I'm sorry to revive an old topic for you). I'm hoping that it will do a decent job on few of our area rugs, I'm looking for something that will remove at least 90% of white rabbit hair :D Our Dell (6kg of rabbit) is shedding like crazy, if you don't vacuum for a few days it's like Yetti was sleeping on the rug. Going cordless is a must for us because they (Dell and his lovely wife Tsuki) really like to gnaw on the Electrolux's cord we are currently using. And that vaccum gets is filter clogged up so fast with Dell's hair, it's loses suction so fast. I like how here everything sinks to the bottom of the bin.

Personally for pet hair I would have gone for a mains powered Sebo Felix.

That's an impressive looking cleaner Roger. I agree about the tools though - it isn't worth all the hassle of fitting them. It would be easier to get another cleaner to do above floor cleaning. :-)

I have the Bosch pro animal vacuum. I am. Very disappointed that every time I have used the machine there is always some grit falls out the bottom. Even if I switch the machine on to pick up this grit it immediately falls out again when I switch off.

The test run was straight up & down in a line. Any vacuum will need multiple angle runs with hair & rug as they interlock in different ways.

I take it you used the pet hair head? Don't mean to embarrass you, but it would be unfair on the vacuum otherwise. I dont see why Bosch isn't more popular.

  • @MrClingclong

I bought one three and a half years ago. The batteries have now got memory effect, so now will not work the vacuum for more than 6 minutes!
Bosch can put new batteries in it for £170. The machine was only £130 new. So what am I going to do about it? I'll take it to the dump and I will carry on with my 25 years old Panasonic and 20 years old Henry. Both of those cleaners have got plenty of years life in them left.
Battery cleaners, great concept, but in reality,.....crap.

This is poor quality added to a good idea. They are renowned for failing on the brush heads. The twisting motion of the head cuts through the cables the motor in the brush head. The brush head is indeed of poor quality. and the contacts to the brush head often fail. I am ashamed to say i talked 3 friends into purchasing these as i was impressed with it for the first few months. within 14 months everyone of my friends had a faulty machine. Oh yes and you guessed it Bosch did not care in the least. That is with 4 people complaining to Bosch. about 4 different machines all at independent times. Check out my assertions on the net you will find many with just the same problems. It must be Brexit...Joke. With all that, don't touch the made in china Dyson cordless its a plastic can that is as much use as a chocolate fireguard. and is for ever clogging the filter and falling apart. Dyson take inbuilt obsolescence to heart.
