  • Many years ago Epson created a program, Epson Print Layout, to make printing on Epson printers easier. It is and has been the best kept secret as most folks still don’t know it exists. Think of it as an easy button for printing. It gives you only the choices you need and makes for a much more streamlined workflow when using Epson printers.
    Epson Print Layout is only compatible with newer Epson Surecolor® printers including. SureColor® P400, P600, P700, P800, P900, P5000, P6000, P7000, P7570, P8000, P9000, and P9570.
In addition to the introduction to Epson Print Layout we will also talk about the exciting new printer introductions for Epson including the new Surecolor® P700, P900, P7570 & P9570.

I just learned so much more of how to work with the Epson print layout . Especially why my maintenance box is already on the end of it's life . I have asked the Customer support from Epson why I have to replace it and she had no idea, but now thanks to your video I know. Thanks so much!

Just finished watched. Very helpful, Eric. Thanks. The Epson Layout program 1.5.5 seems to work just fine on my Epson p800.

It's good for ABW printing because it allows you to preview the tint setting on your actual image.

Am I correct in assuming that if I use Epson Print Layout it means that the option "Photoshop manages colors" cannot be used? Thank you very much.

Thx for this clear explanation. Question, is there a big difference between this program and Qimage one?

Hello Stefan. Yes, there is a big difference as Qimage One is a very fully functional RIP that you pay for. Epson EPL is very much designed as an "Easy Button" for printing and is a free download. If you are using Qimage One I would recommend continuing to do so.

Do I need to set parameters in both EPL and on the printer?

    • @ericjoseph3865

The settings in EPL will over ride what you have selected on the LCD screen on the printer.

I have found the IOS version with Epson papers are not exhibiting true skin tones on people. I can import the picture into Lightroom and then to Epson Print Layout and the skin tones look fine! Go figure!

Hello Jay G. Sorry for the late response. This problem has been reported and is most likely caused by an update in Apple's OS Monterey. Check to see if your driver is loaded properly. Monterey has been loading the AirPrint version of the driver by default causing unwanted color shifts. Let me know if this is the case and I can post how to load the driver correctly and how to correct for this.

@@ericjoseph3865 By IOS I meant my Apple phone and iPad, not desktop.

Ah. Sorry for the misunderstanding. When I think printing I don't generally think iPhone or iPad. While Epson has created an IOS version of the program, I haven't played with it much. I did make a few quick prints from it when the program first launched but found the interface limited. While it may have a sort of novelty and convenience to print from an iPhone or iPad, I don't trust that printing from these devices is going to yield professional results so I've stayed with printing from a computer. I'll have to play with it some more.

Actually . . . Epson Print Layout is quite terrible. Doing anything beyond the most basic printing and working with the software is a horrible experience. Buggy, but also just not well designed and functioning. If I load a certain number of images to the browser, they are automatically added to individual pages to be printed. If I then click on template, they all disappear. Why would that happen? On the one hand, they all appear without me adding them to any page if I don't have a template layout selected, but if it is selected then they are not only not auto added, but discarded. When I try to add them to a template layout, no joke, I have to add them one at a time. AND they can only be added by dragging them onto the specific space in the template that you want it to appear! Are you kidding me? Why can't I add more than one image at a time and have them auto populate? I can't select the whole set of images in the browser and drag, nor can I add even one with a simple double click. They MUST be dragged into place, one by freakin' one! And it doesn't end there. After all of the image slots for the template are filled for a single page, you're done. You can't add a second page. Absolutely terrible implementation, and exactly what I expect when hardware manufacturers get involved with software design to "help" people use their hardware.
Sorry! Ranting about a terrible piece of software.

Hello BrentOn. Epson has been updating this software since its original version fixing bugs along the way. We are now at version 1.5.8 as the latest version for Mac OS. I use the Epson Software updater to get the latest version for my system. I refer to Epson EPL as a great piece of software to use as an "Easy Button" for printing. Your right, it doesn't handle multiple image layouts well but if you have no idea how to print and are wanting to print just one image at a time, it is very easy and simple to use as opposed to the standard File -- Print command. It is not going to replace a RIP for sure but it is free. All I an say is that Epson Print Layout is a work in progress as all software is and the more feedback they get the more features will appear. Thank you for your comment.

@@ericjoseph3865 Thank you for your graciousness in response to my rant. I don't disagree that it can be a good piece of software for simple printing. It does take the guesswork out of the equation for inexperienced users. Printing through the regular driver can seem like a black magic to a novice. I'll give EPL credit there.
