Hey, thanks for using our tool! You had a good overview of how to use it as well... we were literally just talking about how we think that these oil filters should be a little tighter than hand-tight when you put them back on. As opposed to a canister style filter.... we're going to do some testing to try to verify this.
Motivx Tools Thank you! I also have your filter wrench for the larger Toyota engines (MX2320) and I have used it several times successfully. I’d be curious to hear the results of your testing on filter tightness!
@@MotivxTools You guys already posted the recommended torque on your own webpage sometime ago, did you not? Oil pan drain plug torque: 40 N•m/30 ft lbs Oil filter cap torque: 25 (±5) N•m/18 (±3.5) ft lbs
I love watching videos like this really helps those who do not know what to do, but one tip, i will say, is leave the drain plug off and proceed with the oil filter once you loosen the filter there will be a good amount of oil that will drain helps to keep the new oil cleaner then when your done with the filter proceed to plug the drain plug then turn your car on for a good 30sec check for leaks and do you oil light.
I notice the retaining clip next to the oil filter cap is missing? Good to see the best oil filter cap wrench being used and I like the idea of being sure the oil filter cap is not stuck before proceeding.
I do this every 6 months while im switching out my summer tires for winter ones and vice versa... i live in quebec, and inspect the bottom of the car for rust at the same time
Just make sure to use axle stands going under the car , A guy lost his life changing his oil in my neighborhood the jack slipped and crushed his chest ...
I've seen a ton of videos on this subject. The is one of the better ones. Torque on the oil filter assembly cap is only 18 ft.lbs. That's about half of what the engine drainplug is.
@@joshsmith2982 Most people care. At least those that change their own oil. That's the main reason to do it yourself, to make sure it's done right. I guess it's up to each individual to decide whether they care or not but like the video says if it's over-tightened it can be really difficult to get off. It CAN make a difference. People have broken either the wrench or the oil filter cap trying to get it off. No that's more than splitting hairs. m.ruclips.net/video/Wm-VMIkTw6k/видео.html
Ya. but its 3/8" drive and not 1/2" drive. Most breaker bars are 1/2" drive. And I can tell you... whoever tightened mine last time left it so tight a small 3/8" ratchet isn't nearly large enough.
That's not totally true. There is a chance that the oil filter cap tool could break if someone put the oil filter cap on with a 300 ft.lb. impact wrench and you try to remove it without the 27 mm socket. If it was put on correctly then you are right you shouldn't need the 27 mm socket. But better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. There are a number of photos demonstrating this problem when you read the reviews on Amazon for various brands of oil filter cap wrenches. Motivx is one of the better ones available and the one I have.
@@MotorDetroit I know this is old, but the same just happened to me. I tried with a small ratchet and there was no way it was coming off. Then I tried with my huge torque wrench and even with that it was difficult.
The oil filter should be removed first, because it takes much less time to drain all of the oil out of the filter housing, then it does to drain all of the oil out from the oil pan! I always allow at least one to two hours to drain the oil from the drain plug! This way I get much more of the old oil out then I could, if I only let it drain for say, fifteen minutes!
Great job, Toyota's horrible canister filters special for the US, saw a video on a 09 Matrix and it was a normal metal filter. Non- the- less it has to be done.
Can you indicate where underneath the car you unscrewed all those screws. There are so many screws there. Since you are showing people how to do it, people watching this do not know. Those who know don't watch it. Hope this makes sense to you.
Every 5k miles since my first oil change I come back to this video just to make sure I’m doing everything right on my oil change ! Thank you :)
Man these little Toyota’s are road warriors. Basic maintenance and they’ll run forever.🏎
not pretty or powerful.. but it will get you to work for the next 300k miles :)

Thanks for the recommendation on the motivx wrench. After I broke through 2 (one from auto zone and the other from Orielys) this one did the trick!

The oil filter tool *is* a type of socket. You can connect a breaker bar or a ratchet directly to it. No need for a huge 27mm socket.

Thank you sir this is easy explanation video for oil change
Does anyone know what size the oil filter tool is?

Could you please tell me the number part of the oil filter you’ve used please

What does that 15,000 mile filter cost? How often do you change the oil?
No check of the dipstick?

How much oil we need to fill again thanks
Use the whole bottle! It can hold all 4.5 quarts

Do you have to replace the O ring with every oil change? Also what about drain plug should I replace that
I usually replace the o ring that comes with the filter... its new, so usually good idea... remember to take off the old one 😂😂...
This video confirmed my fear.
The grinding after the change is my corolla starving for oil.
Local shop offered me a change last time so I took it, they torqued the fuck out of my cap :|

All you have to do is loosen the oil drain pan bolt and then with then you loosen oil filter cap it's only 2 things you'll loosen and then put back
