Bloody Jewel, that one is great too. One thing the old Compile games did well, that you can't really experience here, is the way the sound effects of the weapons would merge with the music and create neat little jazzy melodies all over the place.
Thanks for uploading this, love the noble but slightly melancholy character of the melodies. There's a melody in Tension of Darkside that reminds me of a song off King Crimson's first album too.
Don Tango Not only Compile. For instance, Konami did it with "Space Manbow", Hertz did it with "Psycho World" and "Hydefos". And there are more examples. :) Generally, vertical scrolling is a thousand times more easy to pull off on an MSX2 than horizontal scrolling, because vertical was actually hardware supported.
Actually Aleste for MSX2 was ported FROM the Sega Master System - the SG-3000 (SMS) version was released half an year earlier :) But thanks I've been looking for this :O

This game is the reason to own a MSX2! A clear system-seller!
I agree, it's a top tier shooter. I think Aleste 2 is even better, though.
John Hassink And only Complie can handle smooth scrolling on the msx system!

I had to get the FM-PAC to hear this version, but it's still good tunes even with just the AY :D

Stage 4 the best!
Didn't realize MUSHA's title theme was carried over from this...
If you compare it with the title theme of Aleste 2, you'll notice even more similarities (the 'solo' was lifted as well from that version).
And now, it's been remixed in Aleste Branch!
😮❤
