I laugh when people try to compare Shinobi 3's music to this masterpiece. Even though Shinobi 3 has an amazing soundtrack, this soundtrack is just hit after hit.
I remember in the late 90s there were those "100 Games in One" plug and play units you could buy at kiosks in the mall. My friend had one and it was just Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, and Shadow Dancer but broken up stage by stage. I looked those up recently and wasnt surprised to find they were discontinued for being super illegal. Ah well. I got to play through all of those games because of that.
I aways liked Long Distance as a young child, and I think having grown up and knowing a bit about music I realised why. I love the use of alternative time signatures to 4/4, and it is in 6/8. Not to mention the entire soundtrack just being plain awesome, anyway, Yuzo Koshiro performs the same miracles with the Mega Drive's chipset that Jeroen Tel did with the C64's SID chip.

If there's one thing I can't forgive my parents for, it's when they forced me to sell my Sega Genesis with 30+ classic games for $25 to my drunk uncle who (probably) sold it all for cheap to feed his addiction. That was 20 years ago and it still haunts me to think about it. Luckily we at least have some of the greatest OSTs to enjoy here on YT 🤟🏻
Absolutely unforgettable soundtrack, imho the best game on the system and probably one of the best platformers and soundtracks of all time, big ups Yuzo Koshiro
Run or Die and Ninja Step are fire!
A fellow Run or Die fan. Lets go. 🔥
so many good memories this game brings me
Over the bay and China town makes me dancing
One of the best games of all time. It shows they put a lot of effort into it, in all aspects: gameplay, music, graphics, etc. True masterpiece.
I love me some SNES but Genesis was fkin bad ass man, and Shinobi is just one example why. I'm still stuck in the 8/16 bit era. NES, SNES, GENESIS, SEGA CD, TG16 SUPER CD...that's all my shit. 12:35 waterfallz
Couldn't pass through level 2 of this game as a kid. I didn't even figure out the double jump back in the days.
Reconnected all the original gear at 26yo. After 2 days of playing again and again, dying many times at the final boss, finally kicked his ass and got my girl back!
What a feeling it was, high-fived my little me.
10:32 "Like A Wind" and 16:41 "Long Distance" are my favorites...
Good jams, definitely
“Long Distance” is my jam here.
Part of my childhood. We had one of those 3 in 1 cartridges with this, streets of rage and golden axe.
I saw Yuzo Koshiro ( the man behind this music) do a DJ gig at Magfest a few years ago. It was so loud I don't remember if he played any of these tracks.
It's coming now on 30 YEARS since the release of this masterpiece videogame and I never in all of that time forgot the beautiful music that accompanied the action. I am glad I lived to see this.
For an early game in the Genesis life, this one really is a good one.
yeah i mean what other game sounded this good in 1989? i dont think there is even an arcade game from that year that could match that. but maybe an amiga game.
Amiga? No, it takes Mega power to sound this good
Dat Ninja Step
Dat Ninja Step goes hard.
+Chad Serrant My fave! :)
No doubt that this is the best video game soundtrack... Thank you so much for putting this on RUclips... Amazing times there at the end of the eighties...
Koshiro...a true legend.

The Shinobi and Terrible Beat are my fav. I finished this game back then, This game is really hard,. I recently replayed it and couldn't pass the first house lol, I suck at video games now.
My childhood will forever be remember by Yuzo.
I'm glad I could not find a track on here that didn't grow on me. Every one of them are bangers and boppers! 😀I want to play this game just for these genius compositions.
Chinatown n last part saved the princess soundtrack. My favourite
yuzu koshiro is a master piece
In those days, even though the graphics was ancient, the composers were top-notch and really put in a lot of effort in composing every single track.
Comment jla kiffais cette B.O. à l' époque...j avais 12 ans.Quelle qualité pour l' époque et les restrictions techniques!
I only beat Revenge of Shinobi twice in my lifetime which I'm proud...The music and gameplay was just absolutely flawless.
2020 As I'm working from home I play Chinatown over and over again it's so relaxing and I love the music in the background.
The Shinobi for me the favorite tune. Mix between darkness and groovy beat. Always reminds me of Shinobi
A great video game soundtrack. Thanks Mister Koshiro.
0:00 to 1:52 The Shinobi = heaven
"Chinatown" - Man... I watch that stage in the demo attract wondering if I would ever make it there as a 8 year old lol.. Flippin' on to street signs to get thru the stage was so damn Epic
Damn Game was so DAMN HARD. NEVER beat it.
This was SHINOBI tha Revenge of that Copyright INFRINGER. Guest Featured, BATMAN, SPIDERMAN, TERMINATOR, Arnold Schwarzenegger, GOD ZILLA and many more lol haha lmao haha ;D
I have never beaten it without killing the dude's girl... :-(
Oweinama Biu I'm glad, that I can beat this game without killing the girl in the process back then... ^^
Oweinama Biu I never got pas the Docks level...
XD it was hard at first, but there's a little trick on that long jumping platform...
Hahahah oh god, If I recall correctly the Terminator turned into the Hulk and Batman into Spiderman (or the other way around). The first time I fought the bossess I was: "...wait... what is going on?!"
You know this games good when you play it as a 5 year old in 1994 and download it to finish it 25 years later in 2019 when you discover how to use emulators. Curse that stage seven jump my 5 year old self never passed
I had my megadrive plugged to my HiFi system with extra bass ON. For me the best soundtrack in any megadrive game!! Feeling nostalgic now!
Absolutely dope soundtrack. Yuzo Koshiro is god. Jitsu of Mijin! *Explodes*
*In no particular order:*
-Long Distance
-Like a Wind
-Terrible Beat
-Labyrinth
-My Lover
-Sunrise Blvd
-The Ninja Master
...are simply phenomenal.
I had this game. One of the best soundtracks in 16-bit. "Long Distance" always makes me feel like I should be running.
yuzo koshiro is simply wonderful!!!!!
I have this game. Mastered it at one time, hardest level 0 shrukens. They should make games like this now.
thank you 🙏 🎵 ⭐️
I laugh when people try to compare Shinobi 3's music to this masterpiece. Even though Shinobi 3 has an amazing soundtrack, this soundtrack is just hit after hit.
Thabks for posting. If your favorite song is also - china town, check out the remaster it's super dope 👌
18:20 I don't know why, but this gives me so many emotions
It is hauntingly beautiful. When I played it to my best friend (who hasn't played Revenge of Shinobi), she thought it was the bad ending music.
At its time this was surely the most theatrical soundtrack for a game yet. SEGA was at the forefront with this.
Just amazing to hear the music of this recorded from the legit system. I have this in that 6-Pak cartridge. Good times.
