I found this video in about 2015 in the fall or maybe early winter and it was one of the worst periods of my life. I was 32 years old with a dead end job, living and working in Manhattan and was at the end of my rope. I would play this video 20x a day over and over again on my commute home and it brought me sanity. Now I'm 40 years old, have a dream job and living a life I would've never thought possible before. I'm still just as thankful for this video.

The Day of The Dead for me is the best zombie film of all time. It was a dark , realistic style film the apocalyptic setting made you feel like it could actually happen. and it genuinely scares you and no other film or tv show has ever made scared of zombies like this film did. The score also contributed to the edge this film has over all of them.

While Dawn of the Dead is my all time favorite film, I think Day is my personal favorite of the Romero Dead films. It's George's most pessimistic and it's also the most honest about human nature. Just like The Joker said in The Dark Night, when the chips are down people will eat each other. And I'm not talking about just the zombies either. That's not to say it doesn't have it's faults. Much like Land of the Dead it's the incomplete half of a whole. (That being the original version of Day of the Dead) It's just amazing George could come up with such bracing stuff when his back was to the wall after the original version got the ax.

@@starpaladinnelaj He was referring to Romero's original hopes for "Day of the Dead". It was to be a much bigger film, much wider in scope, but he had to settle for a much lower budget than he would have needed. That's why this one has so few exterior shots, though it certainly helps give it its claustrophobic feel. The original script for "Day" is online if you want to read it.

I don't know exactly why but I always felt that of all Romero's other installations, Day of the Dead was the most tragic. The closest guess I can make is that by this point in the story, everything just feels so unbearably hopeless. The main character is seemingly fighting for a lost cause (Warning: spoilers ahead) and as the film goes on, we just see that hopelessness slowly crushing her. If you nothing more than study her expression from one scene to the next, she looks so frustrated and tired. Like someone on the verge of giving up on everything. Even a she voices her reasons for carrying on her work, there's so little feeling or conviction in her voice. To be honest, Land of the Dead may not have been everyone's favorite but for me at least, it was a desperately needed bit of levity. By the end of Day of the Dead, there was the vague sense that those were the last people left in the whole world and all they were doing now was living out their last days in relative calm (not a bad thing but it doesn't give much hope of a "future" for humankind). That's one viewers take, anyway. Movies are art pieces with countless interpretations.
