Into the Rift : The Story of the PEdALED Atlas Mountain Race

- To simply finish the Atlas Mountain Race means navigating 1,200 kilometres of the most rugged and remote roads in Morocco. To win requires riding almost non-stop, night and day, for days on end. It is a combination of strength and sleep deprivation that only a few riders in the world can manage. Alone, unsupported and loaded down with supplies, each competitor must constantly battle mechanicals, heat exhaustion and saddle sores to get to the finish. There is no prize, no money, simply the satisfaction that comes from pushing oneself to the limit while exploring the forgotten corners of a beautiful country.
With support from PEdALED, Canyon, Fizik and the race crew led by organiser and route creator Nelson Trees, filmmaker Brady Lawrence followed the race documenting everything from a brutal 80 kilometre walk through the high desert with a broken bike, to one racer’s simple joy at realising they’ll soon eat their first warm meal in days. Featuring the sport’s biggest names and first-time, ultra-distance racers alike, the film gets up close to the kind of people crazy enough to take on this epic challenge. Capturing the human drama set against an otherworldly landscape, Into the Rift is an in-depth look at a true cycling adventure.
Riding 87h. Sleeping 1,5h. That's beyond unhealthy. Still a tough achievement! Can't believe a body is capable of this torture. Nice documentary!!
He's a machine.
@@rottieshepcalibre9156 obviously!
The behind-the-scenes footage of this would be _amazing_ to see. The logistics the media team(s) had to manage to get this great footage I expect is epic.
Congratulations to any rider that even attempted the race. The dedication and courage it has to take to start is incredible.
This has to be one of the best if not the best cycling video I have ever seen. Look forward to seeing more when things return to normal.
Great job Brady on managing to cover the race, a serious challenge for one person. You did a great job representing it. Thanks to everyone that made the film possible.
Thanks a lot James! Definitely had quite the assist from all of the volunteers and drivers. Great job racing!
Hi, James just curious. Are the winners of these races subjected to any dope testing? or is it all in good faith?
@@thepleasureroom9646 Good faith.
@@jameshayden33 thanks, super impressive regardless.
Thankful for a wonderful film
Beautifully shot. Thank you
Absolutely awesome race coverage, thanks for this!

2021. Here in Austria we just started our mist recent lockdown. I. In my basement ticking over the kilometers. Thanks for such a wonderful motivating movie.
That was great-but I wanted it to be longer. I need to see more films like this. Sofian was unbelievable.
This is nice to hear! I left A LOT on the cutting room floor. The first cut was like 2 hours long.
@@bradylawrence3201 you can do this movie in 3 version :) long -2h, normal (just like it is now) and short - 5 min... but still it is awesome and inspiring and thank you!

Felicidades Nelson Trees.
Genial video documental.
Felicidades Nelson!!!

One of the best parts of the film.
One more please... =)
Это люди из плоти и крови, но едут, как буд то они железные!)
woop woop
Can you make it accessible by adding closed captioning please? It is hard to watch with only the auto caption which never work properly for those who rely on it.
I'll see if it's possible to add it in through RUclips.
"more like More Rocks Yo!" LOL mate have a sleep :)
audax on steroids, great video
Nice!
охренеть крутое мероприятие)
The irony of riding a bike up a hill only to walk back down the other side. Not my cup of tea that's for sure.
Inspirational and extremely well executed video. You have to get Lacklan Morton from EF racing and those slackers from The GCN show to do the next race.
It would have been very interesting to see how Mike Hall would have done. Personally I think he would have won it.
Hey guyz... Were the participants staying in accomodations or what was the sleeping arrangements?
23:10 he could do with a movie on his bars. Iphone on the bars and press play 😂 or maybe not
Watch 11:34 to see how easy 😊🤔
One more 😂😂😂
what is the track @23:25 ? cool video!
Just a track I recorded w/ my brother. It might get released some day.
One question: Do the riders sleep at the checkpoints, or do they carry some tents, or bivouac sacks?
They all carry a sleeping bag and either a bivy or tent. They are also free to sleep in hotels/guesthouses, etc. along the way. As long as its commercially available to all riders, it's ok. The checkpoints do also generally have accommodation but can get very busy.
900km into a 1200km race...smoke break😂
That was maybe my favorite scene to film!
what kind of bikes are these
It's a mix of gravel bikes and hardtail mountain bikes. There are one or two full-suspension setups in the mix.
No issues with assembly for me ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
24:40 This is why derailleurs are primitive technology.

A 17' il est bien degeulasse de cracher devant chez les gens 😲
He could have drunk that bottle of water faster.
will never understand why these guys ride chain bikes and not belt bikes. For me it's like trying free riding down a slope with cross country skis.
Question is: find someone likewise stupid or try it alone.
It takes a frenchman to do this kind of event and just casually take a smoke.
Definitely one of my favorite moments.
😂😂😂😂
