One of your most important videos. My experience : High protein, low fat = heart palpitation, insomnia Very high fat, low protein = Heart palpitation, insomnia, weight gain Fairly high fat, moderate protein = Good sleep, no heart palpitations I don't workout, no fasting, no coffee, keeping stress as low as possible.
Duuuude!!! I thank you sooo much for sharing this! This is what I was struggling for the past few weeks, added more fat and it started to calm down. Now as I see your post I gen even happier that it was not only me :)!
@@louiseli-ie8cy Make sure to keep hydrated, using bone/beef broth, add a bit of Celtic salt to your water and keep stress very low(no heavy workouts, coffee, fasting, cold showers....etc) Moderate protein for me was to lower my protein intake and add a bit of fat. You don't have to go crazy and add huge amounts of fat or lower protein to very small amounts. Work with small amounts till you find the sweet spot. I eat about a pound of fatty meat during a day, some eggs, and broth, plus between 80 to 100 grams of fat (tallow, butter, bone marrow) during a day. My go to is butter. If you don't want to eat dairy, use bone marrow, or tallow. Heart palpitations can have many reasons. Friend of mine uses some fruit, or milk during a day and he solved this problem.......
Your issues might be a result of a sedentary lifestyle with comparatively drastic shifts in macros. I usually only have issues when I have too little fat and that’s usually just constipation. Although I could imagine sleep issues would also result from it also.
Been training naturally for 35 years & have tried just about every type of diet throughout the years but none have ever gotten me more ripped/jacked than the carnivore diet but i have found that feel best on approximately 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight, as far as fat is concerned, i try not to get too scientific with the macros & just opt for approximately 2lbs of fatty red meat & 12 eggs(cooked in either butter or bacon fat) per day spread out over 2MAD👌👍💪🥩🇨🇦🇺🇸
I appreciate that you make short videos to explain your point of view, I am tired of one hour+ of blablabla. I agree that each individual depending on their goals should find the best ratio.
Thanksgiving to you MAX…I was at the gym and 4 ladies were all happy & all hyped up because they just got there teenagers on $2000 Ozempic injections per month therapy…I was telling them about carnivore diet, I even showed them my RUclips videos & they look at me like I’m nuts.
"I was at the gym and 4 ladies were all happy", no I doubt it. They probably though you were stalking them. "I was telling them about carnivore diet, I even showed them my RUclips videos & they look at me like I’m nuts." I couldn't imagine why. I had lost 23 pounds eating more plant proteins and having as many carbs as ever. I hadn't lost any muscle mass. What a joke.
ChatGPT I agree with you 100%. I didn't lose any weight while eating a high-fat carnivore diet. For years, I kept receiving advice to trust the process and stick with it, promising eventual weight loss. However, it never happened for me until I started cutting back on the sticks of butter and eliminating cheese and cream. A few years ago, I mentioned the need to reduce fat and pay closer attention to calories in a carnivore group I was part of, and they literally ejected me from the group. Not everyone is a weightlifter or exercise fanatic. Some people simply don't need to consume large amounts of fat if they're aiming for weight loss. However, as you pointed out, it's also important not to eat too little fat. Each person must find what works best for them. Following a powerlifter's eating plan or someone who does intense cardio five days a week might not be effective if you spend most of your time sitting at a computer.
Appreciate you thoroughly explaining this! I hear about the 1:1 ratio, but didn't know how to gauge that!! I feel like I eat higher fat, but I'm 72, and was disabled at 50 with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and depression. Also have spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease and have had 5 spinal fusions, so I am in the HEALING category! I'm no longer type 2 diabetic, anxiety and depression are gone, fatty liver is gone, and my chronic pain is minimal. I am now off 8 of my 11 long term prescriptions and reducing the remaining ones!! Maybe as I have fewer health issues I can eat less fat. Thanks so much for going in depth on this topic!! God bless you!! ❤🤗🙏🙏
It would be great to see a video showing 1:1 fat to protein ratio in different meal examples. (If having a leaner cut of meat like sirloin, how much butter should be added)
With leaner cuts it’s better to maybe cook it swimming in butter/tallow(…I prefer tallow) and then just serve it swimming. I take the plate and literally drink the fats & juices straight from the plate (kinda in the same manner you might see a Japanese person drinking from a traditional bowl-cup in a movie set during the feudal period) and I can very easily tell just by the enjoyment and hunger/satiety signals that I get from such an act, how much more fat I want. I’ll usually take a moderate-large sized mouthful of the cooked liquid beef fat & as I swallow the pleasure I get from it will allow me to gauge how much my body is craving etc. I’ll then start cutting and consuming the muscle meat & by the time I’ve finished the steak I’ll have a decent idea of how likely it is that I’ll be using my fork to scrape all the dried & set fat pools from the plate and eating the wads/clumps off the end of my fork or not. That little feeling of satisfaction and awareness that I don’t need any more is the “silent signal” to my mind that I’ve eaten enough. It’s like Dr. Chaffee says, “animals don’t measure their portions-they just know how much they need and how much they want; their body tells them, when they’re eating their species-specific diet.”
Thank you ! That was interesting ! And thank you to everyone commenting to clarify the amount of fat / protein needed per pound of body weight (lean) !
Another great and clear video Max, your channel is crazy consistent! Some good future interviews that I'd recommend would be Kevin Stock and Chris Knobbe.
I followed and then I got confused around the Dr Baker example I think it’s the math that’s confusing me and also watching too much Dr Boz to cause ketones and she eats low protein it seems to me. I also need to see the visuals or figure out the gram math when I go to the store. I wondering if for me I need to figure out which meats are higher fat. I seem to always reach for NY Strip or 80-20 ground beef and add some butter. I have to say this issue has been confusing for me as I watch a lot of carnivore videos.
Maybe plugging your food into a calorie counting app a few times to just get an understanding of their fat content could help you. 80/20 ground beef def doesn't need more fat added to it unless you are draining all the beef fat off.
Hundreds of hours of videos.. looking for this question to be answered and I finally sort of got an answer.. I am skinny and am trying to put on weight 2 months into a carnivore diet.. so if I eat a bit more fat and stick to this diet.. I will gain weight eventually ? without eating carbs and sugar ? Tell me this is so.. anyone?
It’s 1g per lb of lean weight. An easy cheat is to use the BMI chart to see what your lean weight should be for your height. And that’s the ONLY thing the BMI chart is good for!
Great video. If you could give examples for each scenario as far as sample meals. I would appreciate it. I have been on carnivore for 4 months now. Female 61 yrs old. 5’6” down to 128 lbs. can’t seem to build muscle . I think I will become a client and hire you to coach me starting next Month. I think you’re brilliant.
Thank you very much. Roughly 1.4lbs of any meat in a day would give you your required protein intake. Ideally fatty ruminant meat would be the best source of this. Muscle mass largely comes from resistance training. If you wanted to gain muscle I would highly recommend some sort of program that involves that. If we worked together I would build you a plan that hits both of these targets (protein and resistance training).
@max.german Max, How do you consume 1g of protein per pound of body weight... Do you mean, per pound of lean body mass? I weigh 140 lb. To get 140g of protein, I'd need to eat almost 2 pounds of ground beef per day. I'm just not that hungry on carnivore. To get that much protein I'd need some whey isolate shakes. How do you get all that protein in?
I am confused. Are you saying I should eat a gram of fat per lb of body weight even if I’m over weight or is it ideal body weight? Also most people say a gram per kilogram of body weight. Also I had 80-20 burger patties and it’s approx 48g fat and and 39g protein so I’m already above 1:1 ratio and I thought ground beef was good for me?? Are you saying I now need to eat lean protein to balance out the ratio?
It’s just a rough estimate. If you are slightly over or under you are fine. It should be one gram per pound of lean body weight. My apologies for the confusion.
I did 11 months of 0fat 0carbs. This turned out to be a horrible idea, as I began to suffer organ failure. Not to be gross, but this is honest…what made me stop was that I was sitting on my couch, and twice in the matter of 2 hours, I lost complete control of my bowels, and I defecated myself. I had no control over my ability to stop it. Although, as a byproduct of this, it really proved that my wife loves me, as she’s still with me hahaha
Eat when hungry. Stop when satisfied. If you know that you cannot consume your ideal protein amount in One Meal? Or don't wish to feel sleepy after eating? Then just split that big meal into 2 or 3 (if need be). But personally I'd avoid eating at night, due to your body usually just wanting to unwind & rest, rather than focusing on digesting food.
No one knows. There may be a link to cancer and growth factor-1 found in dairy. That makes sense as a therapy for fighting cancer is to try a diet that starves cancer like zero carb/carnivore.

As a woman who has been carnivore for 5 years this December I can tell you, you should not eat a ton of fat. I've been stalled for about 3 years now after I initially lost 70lb. My son said to keep "why dont you do what you did when you first went carnivore?" That's when I looked at my notes. So for the last 2 months I've been doing PSMF. I've taken all of the extra added fat out, all the extra butter, hard cheeses and cream cheese, heavy cream etc.. and just eat my fatty meat only and whole eggs steamed - or boiled - same thing, and when I add PSMF days, I give the dogs the extra egg yolks - so it's practically lion diet. So if you're not trying to maintain high bodyfat, you know what to do. And again, do listen to your body. well if you are trying to build muscle would you really care about your actual bodyweight? Think about it.

Ideal (only if you're trying to lose excess body fat)
Ideal body weight. Sorry I should have been more clear with my wording.
Its different for men and women.
Your meant 1g person pound of lean bodyweight rights? In other videos ya said that...some say per pound of all bodyweight

No, you can get all the protein you need from meat.

Ridiculous lol The Lies we have been told While we Eat SLAVE FOOD and the Elite get the 🍖 MEAT
That’s not true at all. No one gets fat from eating saturated fat. It’s carbohydrates and the other inflammatory vegetable oils that are the problem.
As a woman who has been carnivore for 5 years this December I can tell you, you should not eat a ton of fat. I've been stalled for about 3 years now after I initially lost 70lb.
